*Well isn't that very french? Were the legs chopped off and served already?* Jocelyn's pondered to herself as she stared at the sign of the next establishment she would try. The Legless Frog. She had given up on going into just the establishments that had help wanted signs in the window and had now taken to merely walking into any place she thought she could work. She was pushing herself past her own insecurity barriers to find a job. Now that Jason had set her up with a place to live and a role for the pack she felt it her duty to make sure the safe house would always be prepared for visitors. That meant ontop of all the cleaning she was doing she needed to keep the place stocked of food and necessities. Joss already felt behoven to Jason and she wanted to add to it what she could. Getting a free ride of room and board wasn't sitting well for her and she wanted to be able to at least contribute to it in some way. Jocelyn stood at the top of the stairs the lead to the subtarranean entrance of this establishment. She shook herself and forced herself to stand straighter. Then with a deep breath she forced herself to walk down the stairs and into the establishment. She walked directly towards the bar area pulling her hands from her pocket she leaned against a section of the bar and looked towards the bartender. "Excuse me? Is there someone I could speak to about possible employement?" Jocelyn called softly. An odd scent reached her nose making is scrunch up. The smell acrid, close almost to that of a skunk, a musk of animal of some kind. Jocelyn vaguely remembered the scent, something she hunted once or twice while a wolf. Something smaller then her then... but she couldn't put her finger on it. |

The barman gave the woman a quick look over before calling out over his shoulder for the man stacking glasses to get Grey down from his office. He was plain human so as far as his first impressions went she was just the same. What a wonderful thing the basic human condition was. The bar staff knew what Grey was of course, they didn't advertise it just as he didn't. Grey came down the stairs coming though the door that opened out behind the bar. He took a sniff of the air as the barman pointed out the blonde woman who'd asked about employment. His head tilted in curiosity as he picked out her scent. A wolf? He had what most would call a bad history when it came to wolves. Well that wasn't entirely truthful he had what many would call an appalling history with one group of wolves but it had lead him to treat most of the breed with caution at the very least and with some even hostility. Still that didn't mean he would be impolite or go looking for trouble by slighting her or others. They could do with the extra staff really and in end he'd take a wolf rather than force his staff to survive without the extra help. That was if she didn't mind working for a fox. Walking around the bar he held out his hand he spoke in French. “Hi you asked to see someone about employment? My name is David Malkin and I'm the manager of this place. Have you got any experience with bar work?” |

Jocelyn waited as patiently as she could as the bartender called for someone else. She tried to not let her nerves get the best of her. Tried to not let her fear of the unfamiliar and new send her bolting out the door. Especially the smell of prey that permeated the place. She smiled demurely as someone emerged from a back room and walked around to great her. She tried to keep the fear from her face as he began spouting in french. She was trying to learn as quickly as she could. And while she understood he had introduced himself as David Malkin she didn't understand much else of what he said. She took his hand and shook it. "Ja mapelle... errr uhh Jocelyn. I'm sorry I'm still working on my french. I'm new to Paris but I assure you I'm a quick learner it will come. I'm looking for work I've had two years experience working in restaurants in New York City... in the states. I was certified in bartending there. And I was just wondering if you were looking waitress, bartender, bar back." Jocelyn began rambling in english. Rambling was something she did when nervous. She sheepishly pulled her hand back out of his grip looking down a little. The wolf inside her stirred at the smell of prey. Something smaller then them. Something they could hunt on their own. Joss tried to forcibly push the wolf back. This man could possibly be their boss and it wold be no good to be thining of him like prey. The wolf didn't understand why she was acting all submissive around something it considered food but it backed down as there was no bushy tail to chase. "Sorry did that sound rather desperate. Um J'ai uh... certaine expérience ....with...avec .... with uh... service." Joss struggled to speak french. She figured it would be the same, her lack of french would be a downfall. She could learn faster if she could buy some tapes or something to help her but without money the lesson was in trying to pick up what she could on the street. Of course she could probably ask someone in the pack for help but despite what Jason had said she was still reluctant to ask for help. |

Grey smiled reassuringly as the woman as she tried to reply. It was obvious her French was not the best but equally she was trying and that was something that could be learned so he resisted the urge to laugh or for his smile to show amusement. Instead he listened as she continued in English his eyes not flinching or lowering from hers his position not hinting at any submission. Yes she was a wolf, yes his fox was smaller but with that size difference came advantages and this was his home a fox defending it's home was not something you tangled with lightly. Besides it was important that he show her wolf he was not prey neither of them were in their animal form so he was actually a foot taller than her. Prey would have looked nervous, would have flinched from the contact of shaking hands, would have not made eye contact or even ran he would do nothing of the sort. She was obviously nervous by the way she was babbling and by the fact she made the redundant statement that she had worked in New York City in the states. Rather than where exactly? She sheepishly pulled her hand back and broke eye contact slightly. She apologised and started again saying she had some experience with service. She seemed okay from first impressions not overbearing or too confident like some wolves. Thinking he'd given her enough time to be nervous and not entirely sure how much of his introduction she'd understood he repeated himself speaking in English this time, his accent his natural one from growing up in London. “Hey, don't worry about it Jocelyn. I'm David Malkin and I'm the manager here. So you have some experience in bars and restaurants? We are more like a pub really but then you don't have many of those over in the States. We do some food but nothing too fancy. As for entertainment that can change from night to night. Our license allows us to do disco's, raves, live music, card nights, and practically most other things you'd imagine could be done in a club or bar. We've not been open long but we've already got a couple of Brits and other English speakers who live and work in the area as regulars so you could possibly survive without extensive French but it would probably be useful to pick up.” Leading her over to a booth table against a wall he gestured for her to take a seat. He'd give her a chance to introduce herself in English and make an impression. “Would you like something to drink before we try again in English? We are possibly looking for some bar staff seeing as a few of the staff were only around to help me start up over here. What kind of bars and restaurants did you work in and exactly how long for?” |

Jocelyn's shoulders lowered with a sigh of relief as the mad started over in english. His british accent, actually very familiar to her, was a welcome relief. She nodded as he began spouting off about his bar and what he expected. She followed him obediantly towards a booth as he continued to talk. Sliding into it as he guestured. She waved away his offer for a drink. Jocelyn listened to his questions and took a deep breath arranging her thoughts before she began. "OK. Well I started in college bartending at a local applebees. A ... chain restaurant type thing. I'm not sure of the equivalant over here. Busy weekends double shifts fast pours. Then in the city I spent a year at the American Cafe. Was new american cuisine moderate price atmosphere a step up from applebees I guess but I was ust a waitress there. Then a friend turned me on to a place where I could make better tips. Jolly Horse Saloon. Was mainly just a bar though we had burgers and wings too. Mostly I bartended there but also did some shifts as a shot girl." Jocelyn left off the dancing and singing on the bar as that didn't seem quite relevant. And it was something the girl she used to be was comfortable doing. Not who she was now. No more scantily clad bar dancing not with her scarred body. "Um I moved to the UK then as an au pair though I did take a little side job at a pub running there karaoke on weekends." Joss shrugged as she listed her previous jobs. SHe just hoped he didn't ask for references as any she could give thought she was dead and she'd rather keep it that way. "And I'm a quick learner when I set my mind to something. I've only been here... 2 weeks. I'm trying to pick up what French I can from just listening. I plan to learn more once I have more oppurtunity to. But until I get really settled a job is priority one." Joss went on. The whole time she spoke she kept her gaze down. She wanted to convey to him that she wasn't a threat. That though she was wolf she was also a submissive and no threat to him. He may in his other form be something she would hunt but she might even be second guessing that thought after having met him. |

The wolf let out an obvious sigh of relief when he started again in English causing his smile to widen slightly. Once she had waved away the offer for a drink he slid into the booth opposite her listening to her speak of her experience. He didn't recognise many of the names of places but he could check into them. He wasn't sure whether to check into the question of if she'd worked there as that would take quite a bit of an effort to do. Still something seemed odd about this true this was a first meeting but the experience she was describing seemed to almost be at odds with the woman in front of him. Okay so the wolf was worried about first impressions and the fact she already possibly had the low level of French as a mark against her but she also seemed fairly introverted and flighty. So either the references were false or something major had changed in her life possibly the reason for her being so far from home? Finally once she was finished he nodded at the idea of learning French being helpful but it was probably one of those unfortunate loops where French would help you get the job and getting the job would help/support you while you learnt French. His posture and body language relaxed as she avoided eye contact and he assumed was not making any challenges to him. At least he assumed that was so he didn't really have that much experience dealing with Were's in general outside of certain friends. “Well I have various language tapes and books I'd be willing to lend you to help with that. If you don't mind me asking was that experience before or after you were infected? Have you introduced yourself to the local head wolf? From the skulk he'd somehow inherited through a series of unlikely events and random chance he'd pieced together the fact a new comer was meant to introduce yourself to the local group leader if only as good manners. Not that he'd done so when he'd come into town but still the last thing he needed was the wolves being pissed off at him for employing one of their number that hadn't introduced herself or was actually hiding from them. Mind you equally if she had good reason for either of those possibilities he'd still be willing to consider giving her a job. In the end, wolf or not, she seemed okay and they did need the staff so he would have to think over whether to give her a trial period to prove herself or not. |

Jocelyn felt like he was studying her. She flinched a little as he tried to reason out her previous experience with the girl before him. Once a performer and outgoing individual Joss had changed alot within the last year. The spunk had neatly been beaten out of her with her change and her company. When he offered to lend her language tapes she visibly perked up a little. "Yes I think that's just what I need but a luxury I could not afford as of yet." Joss said with a definable smile on her face. Thinking this was a good sign that he would offer to lend her these as you wouldn't offer to lend a stranger something of your own unless you planned on seeing them again. Then the next question hit and she gulped. "Before." She answered swiftly. The fact of the matter was she hadn't had any recent experience. It had been nearly a year since she had worked the karaoke in the pub and nearly 2 years since she had worked truly in the service industry. But she was sure it would be like riding a bicycle. Or at least she hoped so. Plus with her enhanced strength and dexterity perhaps it would even be easier. Again she hoped. His next wuestion however made her head snap up and glance around the establishment. Part of her was still terrified to be shot down, especially with all the news of the presidential elections coming in France. "Yes... I ... I have been accepted by the Ulfric here." She said in a low soft whisper. Her head dropping back down. "He can vouch for me if you like." She added softly. She wasn't sure but perhaps this man new her Ulfric. Not that she expected all the lycanthropes in the city to know each other. |

Grey considered the woman for a moment more before nodding in understanding. She didn't expand on what she'd been doing since but equally it was obvious by the way she answered they hadn't been especially happy or fun times since. It made sense that she'd not been that out going after being infected it wasn't exactly an easy experience normally in the best of conditions and he'd heard of experiences much worse than his own which was really saying something in some ways. Still he didn't really care that her experience with bar work was a while ago it wasn't exactly the thing that was difficult to remember nor to pick up even if you had never really done it before. He wouldn't be checking up on her previous references if they had been before she changed they wouldn't really be a good indicator of the person who sat in front of him now better he gave her a chance to prove herself and then go from what that showed him of her and if worse came to worse? He'd have a possible indication of any trouble that may be happening to or caused by the wolves of Paris. The shyness she had wouldn't be too much of a problem either other staff here would keep an eye on her and help out if she had any trouble and the pack would hopefully keep an eye out for her while she wasn't working. He didn't particularly trust wolves but he knew enough of them to respect the fact most good packs kept an eye out for the weaker members in exchange for the respect and concessions to their rank they expected. Working with the public did have a tendency to bring people out of their shells as well even if only to survive the idiots that they sometimes had to face. He didn't really intend to check with the Ulfric it would mean trying to track him down and actually identifying himself to the man but if Joss hadn't introduced herself to the man it really would be upon her own head and if who ever was the current leader of the wolves came to check up on her he would at least be civil to him. “I'll take your word on the Ulfric. Afraid I don't know the man so couldn't check on you even if it really was something of my business. I'm willing to lend you the language tapes so you can at least get a basic understanding of French and I'm also willing to offer you a trial period of two weeks with three or four shifts per week just to see how you settle in. If you are still doing well after that I'll give you a further three month trial period and then we'll go from there as things may lie. That okay with you? Do you have to hand in your notice anywhere or sort anything out before you start doing shifts?” |

Joss sat in the booth. SHoulders slumped, eyes on her hands which were folded on the table before her. She waited as Grey seemed to scrutinize and mull things over. She was prepared for rejection, she had only been rejected so far, what was one more. She nodded, she really hadn't expected all lycanthropes to know each other. She would have offered him Jason's number if he asked to check it out. Even though handing out the Ulfrics name and number wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do in these times of change. But she knew the man before her to be two natured just as them, so surely it wouldn't be so bad. Her head lifted and she sat a little straighter as he began about lending her the tapes was a good sign, a good sign that she would be seeing him again. When he went on about trial periods and shifts she almost jumped out of the booth and yelled for joy. Somehow she managed to contain herself. Only smiling like an idiot as he layed out his terms. "More then fair. More then fair. I will do my best not to let you down, to prove myself. Thank you." Joss said once again a very human guessture of extending her hand to shake his. She shook her head at the idea of handing in notice somewhere else. No every other job she'd held thought she was dead. "No nothing to tie up. I can start whenever you need me. Just let me know." Joss beamed. Actually looking up at Grey directly. Her lips pulled into a huge grin. Joy, relief flooding her. "So when should I start?" Joss asked giddily. |
