REINHA :: Queen of Thugs
|
Leaning against the bench in the kitchen, Emi’s eyes and ears were currently focussed on the television in the adjoining family room while she tapped a pen against a note book she’d been writing in earlier. Her brows furrowed into a small frown as she watched the election speeches from the two candidates who were vying for the Presidency of France, and she didn’t like it one little bit. It had become a rather large topic considering the kinds of laws they each wanted to implement – either way the lives of many, many people were going to change dramatically. That included herself and her daughter unless she could think of something. How the hell both a Humans First activist and a League of Human Voters affiliate both ended up in the race was beyond her. Weren’t there any pro-preternaturals working in the government? With a sigh, the cougar picked up the remote control beside her and turned the television on mute before returning her attention to what she’d been doing. In front of her she had lists, quite a few lists. Underground contacts, known shifters, lycanthrope leaders... she may have been jumping the gun a little, but the way she saw it, it didn’t matter who won. A whole lot of people were going to lose out in the long run. A glance at the clock and she groaned as she bent over the bench and rested her head on her arms for a moment. It was getting late and she had a morning shift, but she just couldn’t sleep with everything that was going on in her mind. She was also waiting for Jason to arrive so they could talk. She needed to go over a few things in her head and there was no one better to go over it all with than her closest confidante. Ever since he’d come across her almost five years ago they’d been close and he watched out for her more than she expected him to most of the time. It just so happened to be handy to have someone who could pick up some alcohol on the way out as well since Nina was already long asleep and Marcy was visiting her family this weekend. Seemed Emi had drunk the last of her stock last week and had forgotten to replenish it – disaster. Not really, but it was always handy to have a little something around to help take the edge off on the particularly stressful days and help her get to sleep. More than anything else, Emily was mostly very worried about what it could mean for Nina no matter who came into power. Already, she was contemplating having to take her out of public school and have her home-schooled just so that nothing happened to her. To top it all off, she had a kink in her shoulder that was becoming painful, the throbbing making its way to her head to cause a dull ache that ran from the side of her neck to her temple. ”Baise.” She muttered softly as she reached an arm around to attempt to push the knot out, hoping that the wolf would show up soon. |

Ulfric // Emi's Beau

The thick tread of the green Blazer's tired rolled effortlessly over the slightly pot marked highway that curved through the countryside just outside of the city limits. Over the roar of the engine, the voice of presidential candidate McKenzie poured through the radio, "Your guns, your stakes, everything! Now is the time to prepare! We are at war with these creatures and it is time we took the fight to them! We must not live in fear! Your children must not live in fear!" Jason felt his jaw clench as he heard the rallying cry of the male candidate. It reminded him of the politics that he had experienced as a member of the U.S. Military. Instilling fear in voters was a tactic that was not unheard of, despite how morally wrong it truly was. Most people did not realize that they were just sheep to be herded and this William McKenzie wanted to be their shepard. A turn of the steering wheel and clink of whiskey bottles in the passenger seat signaled that the werewolf had arrived at the long drive that led up to Emily's home; the vehicle bouncing as the terrain changed slightly. It was incredibly late, but then again Jason was no stranger to late nights and late nights with Emi were nothing new. In a way it had become expected through the duration of the five years they had known each other and their paths had collided. The cougar would not be hear today if Jason had not taken a hike that cold Christmas Eve. The Blazer soon rolled to a halt and the ignition cut. The request for alcohol was not a surprise either and the large brown paper bag was filled with several bottles of liquor that the woman had requested. Jason did not mind supplying her with spirits when she forgot. Emily was a responsible woman and no fool when it came to her daughter either. Besides, Nina would be sound asleep by now anyway. With the bag of liquor in arm, he knocked on the door once to let her know that he had arrived. Even after all this time it really was not necessary, but Jason still wanted to at least let the woman know that it was not some strange man entering her home. Call it habit. Stepping inside, the werewolf took a quick sweep of his surroundings. The large estate was huge compared to the tiny one bedroom apartment where Jason lived in the city. One could probably fit at least five of his apartments inside of the estate that Emily had 'inherited.' In a way, it felt like a vacation to come here (and on the nights he stayed over) compared to his own place. Satisfied that all seemed to be in order, his eyes caught the hue of light coming from the kitchen and the shifting colors that denoted the television was on, leading the man toward the kitchen. "You should really try to get some sleep..." He commented simply before setting the bag of alcohol down in front of her notes. Jason's eyes slid toward the tv and while it was muted, he knew exactly what they were saying. It was the same replay of the candidates that he had heard on the radio. With a slight grimace, he returned his attention back to the list on the table, "What are you working on?" Edited by Jason Young, Nov 20 2008, 04:17 PM.

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs

”Your children must not live in fear!" The voice of Mr McKenzie still echoed in her ears as she tapped her pen across the small notes littered across the paper in front of her. Was he fucking kidding? What about her child? What about the children who had parents that could end up either tagged like pets, or hunted down like wild animals? So many innocent lives were going to be turned upside down because of this election and the kinds of people who people apparently wanted to see in power. There was nothing that Emily wouldn’t do, no level she wouldn’t sink to, in order to make sure that her daughter was going to sleep safe and soundly at night time. That was why she had to make plans now. Emi dropped the pen as she stood a little straighter in an attempt to stretch out the knot that had formed on her shoulder, and groaned as it didn’t do a thing. Her fingers massaged the spot that was just a little hard to reach, just as she heard the single knock on the front door before it opened. Not that Jason really had to knock, they’d known each other long enough that the place was open for him to come and go as he pleased. The cougar sighed softly as her gaze returned to the notes in front of her, she must have been part daydreaming if she didn’t even hear his car. The clink of bottles as Jason entered the kitchen and set the drinks she’d asked for beside her was music to her ears though, and she raised an eyebrow with a small smirk as she reached in the bag to pull out a bottle of whiskey. “Sleep? And what would that be, mon ami? Something for the elected privileged I can only guess.” Both of them knew she hadn’t slept probably nearly as much as she should recently, but no one could blame any shifter, faerie or vampire for not feeling quite at ease lately. Not when everything was soon going to be ripped out from beneath them. She twisted the lid off the bottle in her hand while she rolled her shoulder, clearly uncomfortable, before tipping the bottle to her mouth to take a swig as Jason asked what she was doing. Emi’s eyebrow rose and her gaze moved to the few lists and notes sprawled over the paper on the bench and she shrugged and swallowed the burning liquid easily before answering, “Making preparations.” She nodded toward the television, “No matter who wins, it is going to become incredibly uncomfortable for people like us and... ugh...” She rolled her neck, but then raised a brow and pouted lightly at Jason as she pointed at her shoulder, “Do you think you could push this kink out for me?” Turning her eyes back to the notes, she took another drink before continuing, “Just working out who I will need to contact to organise ways to make it a little easier on us all. If we’re going to be treated like criminals... then I suppose we’re going to have to start being a little more underhanded so that we can avoid the consequences of the ‘people’s choices’.” |

“Sleep? And what would that be, mon ami? Something for the elected privileged I can only guess.” Just the mention of anything close to the elections or elected immediately turned Jason's thoughts to what was on the mind of Emily and probably most preternaturals in Paris. The hint of a smirk touched his features, but there was no mirth in his eyes, "Suppose your right... McKenzie and Iveriot must be cozy in their beds tonight." Bitterness was there as well. A leap of the imagination was not required to figure out what the mother was thinking about or had been troubling her since the candidates had announced the main driving force of their campaigns. So it was not a huge surprise when the woman admitted that she was making preparations for when the inevitable happened. It was a sad fact that it had come to this really. Jason gaze off for a moment, staring at the scattered notes on the table as he thought of the new responsibilities that laid before him. He had Ulfric for only two months and the murder of the former leader had already raised concerns and tension. Now it would be Jason's job to ensure that the entire Pack was safe as well. "... ugh..." The werewolf's focus was pulled away from his thoughts and the notes on the table, “Do you think you could push this kink out for me?” A small smile graced his features in regards to the small pout the woman produced. As if she really needed to pout at him to do something as small as rub her shoulders and back, "Of course." Shrugging out of the light weight jacket he wore, Jason was dressed in a simple black tee and a pair of old jeans and sneakers. Nothing fancy, it really never was either. With the coat flung over the back of a chair, the wolf moved over to stand behind Emily and place both hands on her shoulders. A slight frown appearing at how tense her muscles felt overall, but it did not take long for his thumbs to roam down to the troublesome knot. “Just working out who I will need to contact to organise ways to make it a little easier on us all. If we’re going to be treated like criminals... then I suppose we’re going to have to start being a little more underhanded so that we can avoid the consequences of the ‘people’s choices’.” Another sad truth as Jason looked beyond Emi's shoulder and to the notes she had jotted down. Some of the names he knew and others he was only beginning to learn now with his new status. Though his gaze eventually landed on 'Soulja Boi' and a small chuckle left his throat. "Good to see I was notated." His voice was sarcastic but also in a joking tone, "If the laws go into affect then I might have a harder time with the job... but at least you've got someone within the government." Though at the same time it meant a great deal of risk for the werewolf. Regardless of which official was placed into office, he would probably be as good as dead if it was discovered he was a werewolf and licensed executioner. Increasing the pressure just a little, his hands continued to roll over her tight shoulders, giving special focus to the knot, "How is Nina doing?" He asked quietly, wondering how much the little cougar was aware of the changes going on around her. Edited by Jason Young, Nov 21 2008, 02:42 PM.

“McKenzie and Iveriot must be cozy in their beds tonight." “At least someone is,” Bitterness replied to bitterness, it wasn’t uncommon a feeling when the people Emi was closest to spoke about the election that was coming up. At least she had Jason to air her more secret concerns and issues to – there were few who she could really trust around, too many people were willing to sell information to the highest bidder. It was just another handy fact that he’d become the Ulfric of the local pack not two months ago. Of course, it was a shame what happened to the last leader, but she figured ‘Soulja Boi’ could handle things, and it made their friendship all the more beneficial for them both since she’d claimed Paris as hers quite a while ago. While she knew she needn’t pout to get Jason to do something for her, she still had a habit of doing it anyway. But the pout shifted into a smile as he moved behind her and began to feel around her shoulders for the knot that was giving her pain. Considering the hours she’d been working lately, coupled with the rising tension in the city, it shouldn’t have been any surprise that she was beginning to feel it physically. Being psychic had its uses, but it had its downfalls too. “Mmm, right there...” Emi closed her eyes for a moment as Jason found the spot. She knew it would take some time before she relaxed properly, but it always helped to have someone who didn’t mind doing the small things like bring her alcohol and push the knots out of her muscles whenever they tensed up too much. Not that it happened often, just moreso as of late with the state of affairs the way they were. When the wolf commented on himself being noted down among her lists, she smiled and pulled the bottle back to her lips for another long drink before opening her eyes again and glancing through the scattered writing. “Well of course. You have more use than simply being my cabana boy when I feel like being spoiled.” She chuckled lightly and shook her head as her fingers spread the sheets out a little bit. “Do not go placing yourself in too much trouble though... you will have to be more careful than some. But at least I can fake any medical information for you if you need it done.” Emi’s head rolled to the side slightly, as she tried to relax her shoulders a little more, “I am just gathering my less than legal contacts, and also making sure I have updated information on the other shifter leaders. I think perhaps we should consider forming a coalition of sorts. This is a time we really need to work together to consider a safety plan... or something.” With a heavy sigh, Emilia pulled the bottle up again, resigned to the decision to relax a bit for now. She’d been jotting down names, numbers, and ideas since she’d come home from work. In between seeing to Nina’s needs and dinner and other small things that kept her on her feet most of the time as it was. Not that she ever complained about her life. Though the thoughts on what to do for Nina returned as Jason asked about her. Smiling slightly, the cougar pulled the bottle from her mouth once again, swallowing what was in her mouth, before she turned her head slightly to smile back at him. It really had been a miracle that he’d come across the attacked mother to be years ago, he’d been not only a great support for Emi, but a solid male figure for Nina to have in her life. “She is doing well, though...” Emi sighed and frowned slightly, “She was a little upset today. I am glad she knows to keep what she is a secret, but it is still hard on her sometimes... Some of the more ‘human’ views are being expressed around the school yard, and even in class. I may have to consider pulling her out and finding a private teacher for her, as much as I don’t want to. She loves socialising with the other children.” Nina was about as sweet as a child could come, to think that at some point she might be discovered to be a shifter and targeted by those who would be taught to hate her kind... The situation made Emi feel more sad than angry. |

It was taking some effort, but the knot was slowly but surely being unbound by the werewolf. Even though he could not cook that well and had a hard time keeping his apartment clean, at least he seemed to have a magic touch with back rubs. Then again maybe he had learned a thing or two from Emi when she had been studying to become a doctor. There had been a few occasions where he had taken a peek at her books for the sake of curiousity. "Medical records and probably some specimens... they may start testing more than just piss at this rate." Of course blood was the huge issue and would easily out any lycanthrope. Some aspects of his job were still uncertain and he had no idea how the role of executioner might change with the election. His brow furrowed at the thought of being forced to hunt lycanthropes. Of course Jason had no love loss for vampires and was part of why he had gone through the steps to get an executioner license. Not many in PPIT were aware he was a lycanthrope though, but he secretly had that advantage when on a hunt. At the mention of a coalition, he nodded though she could not see it, "I think that would be the best thing at this point. Some sort of support system or a way to make sure everyone is protected." He paused for a moment, trying to refraining from releasing a sigh, but failed anyway, "The Pack is so large... one of the largest, though I don't know the number of the Rodere." Even as Emily as a close confidante, Jason still had problems expressing some of his feelings. Of course Emily had the advantage of being a psychic which made things even more difficult at times. "Let me know if you need me to help in any way... you should not be burdening yourself like this... not alone." The knot was smoothing out a little more, but not quite gone yet. When the subject turned toward Nina, the werewolf sighed once more as Emi explained that the little girl had gotten upset. She was only five years old. Kids that age had no business knowing about 'adult things' like the politics that were going on. It stole their innocence and childhood in his opinion. There was plenty of time to learn how awful the world could be, children needed to enjoy oblivious while they could. The man's fingers had paused from massaging her back for just a moment, lost in his thoughts and had grown mildly angry at the thought of Nina overhearing those hateful remarks. When he snapped out of it, he glanced down at the back of Emi's head, "Maybe a day or two romping in the woods or a picnic might do her good... I know she doesn't need to start taking after her mother." The last comment light hearted before he leaned forward to peer down at her, "Gonna drink all that yourself?" |

Emilia leaned more into Jason’s hands as he worked at the tensed muscles in her back, he may have thought he’d snuck those looks in her medical journals, but she’d caught him out a few times over the years. At least he’d managed to learn enough to be able to assist at times like this when she needed someone else to look after her body for once. She screwed up her nose a little but nodded as she drank at the whiskey and relaxed a little with the personal massage. “Oui, well... I am a medical consultant. It is not like they can simply take your blood and test it themselves. Anything they want done must go through a doctor. Records, specimens, bloods...” The doctor also realised that she would have to be extra careful with her own information now too, and was only glad that the only records of her lycanthropy were at the Golden Cockerel. Ovid and his new hubby wouldn’t be stupid enough to give everyone’s records out... she hoped. Perhaps she would have to start storing information in a vault or something. The agreement of a coalition was welcomed though, and her eyebrows rose as Jason paused, waiting for him to continue sine she knew there was more he wanted to say. She smiled softly at the admittance that there was quite a lot to look after with the pack and reached back to pat one of his hands, “Do not worry, I am certain you will be fine, Soulja Boi. Besides, you have Cara there who I’m sure can help.” She shrugged lightly with an amused smile, “Or maybe you should find a nice bossy Lupa.” It was a teasing suggestion, aimed at the fact that now he was Ulfric, others had begun to take more notice of his relationship with his blonde bombshell best friend. It was no secret what they got up to some nights, but also knowledge to those who knew them that it didn’t go beyond friendship and sex. Nonetheless, it still amused her and she almost expected to start hearing stories about females throwing themselves at him. Her smile softened to something a little fonder at the offer to help though, “Merci, Jason. You know you are always the first I call if I need anything.” It was the truth, ever since he’d taken her broken and bloodied to the hospital, he’d continued to watch over her. Emi paused as she felt Jason’s hands cease the fine work they were doing on her muscles though and turned her neck to glance back at him. She wasn’t surprised at his reaction to the news about things at school. Nina was young to be there in the first place, but she was too smart to wait for most other children her age. Unfortunately that intelligence meant that she picked up on things that she probably didn’t need to have to worry about this young. The sound of a day or two camping sounded good though, “I think she would like that.” Despite the relaxed tone of her voice, the same memories and guilt that she’d carried for years crept back into her mind with the idea of ‘family fun’. To her, those small things they did over the years like camping and picnics were wonderful... but there would always be that underlying grief that Ely couldn’t enjoy those things, or even the rest of Nina’s family – especially her real father – that the girl would never know because of her mother’s choices in life. However, with that hurt came even deeper appreciation for having the wolf in their lives. She barely caught his question, but managed to smile slyly as she brought the bottle closer to her lips again, “Oui, I think I shall. You just go back to the job I assigned you.” She chuckled as she took another large drink, knowing she was being a shit, but having fun nonetheless as she finished the first bottle and sat it on the counter before reaching for the bag. “Oui, well... I am a medical. It is not like they can simply take your blood and test it themselves. Anything they want done must go through a doctor. Records, specimens, bloods...” Although she did have a point, Jason was one to remain skeptical since there was a great deal of uncertainty on the horizon. Maybe he was just being paranoid but it Emi was going to be preparing for what was to come, it would probably be wise to consider any and all possibilities, "True, but it may not necessarily go through you." A brow was raised as he spoke, "I'm not sure how many doctors and nurses you might have wrapped around you finger but I think you have to assume that whoever gets elected will be sneaky and underhanded also." It could have been than being American born naturally made him paranoid about the government as well. At the reference to being called 'Soulja Boi' the werewolf had to smirk and even show the hint of a grin at the blonde, even if she could not see it. Though Jason would never openly admit it, he liked the small terms of endearment that Emily tossed his way casually, whether they might have been intended that way or not. Of course the smile faltered just a little at the mention of a Lupa, "Don't remind me... some people expect one to be picked like it's an arranged marriage." The talk about his relationship with Emi did not help things either. Not for the sake of subject matter or that it inadvertantly made Jason wonder about other things. Mildly thankful for the subject change, even if he had been the one to bring up Pack issues, he was at least relieved that the woman was not going to take on the burden of forming this coalition alone. As always he would provide support wherever he could for her as he had since finding her on Christmas Eve five years ago. With his new responsibilities it meant he would be busier than ever, but at least it gave the werewolf something to focus on. Sitting idly by and bored had to be one of the worst tortures in the world. “Oui, I think I shall. You just go back to the job I assigned you.” Jason rolled his eyes at the woman, "And we certainly don't want Nina being bratty either." He leaned back a little while still keeping his hands on her shoulders, to avoid any friendly swats that might come his way before he relaxed once more, "So... are you going to vote? If you had to choose the lesser evil." |

“I have everyone wrapped around my little finger, but you are tied the tightest, mon ami.” Emilia laughed lightly, despite Jason’s scepticism. She wasn’t a fool, she knew there would be those who would be just as sneaky as herself out there, and she shrugged lightly. “But the threat of others pulling the wool over our eyes simply means we must remain a step ahead of them, and not underestimate what they’re capable of. They will have the law working on their side after all. Essentially, we’re going to be the outlaws.” With the television still on in the next room, Emi’s eyes darted toward the images on it of the electorates before grimacing and picking up the remote to switch it off. The blonde sighed lightly, “We will think of something. But it will definitely be helpful if we gather as much support as possible.” Picking up on the subtle change in the wolf when she joked about him finding a Lupa, Emily closed the subject. Though, she wasn’t sure what the deal was. No one could pressure someone into finding a mate. As far as she knew, it was something that just came naturally when two people clicked. Though she could only imagine the kind of flack he might have been copping lately considering she had Cara at the hospital usually adding her two cents to the pot. There weren’t many days that went by that it wasn’t suggested that they move ahead or call it quits – something Emi didn’t really pay too much attention to. He was her best friend, despite the fact that they sometimes acted like an old married couple, just without the commitment. Emi kept herself shielded from Jason’s thoughts though; it was none of her business his feelings on the subject unless he wanted to talk to her about it. Besides, right now despite the grim topics that came up more often than not recently with the election, she’d managed to begin to relax a bit what with the combination of good alcohol and a shoulder massage and serious discussion just wasn’t her idea of a good time right now. The tension in her muscles was releasing and the headache that had accompanied it earlier was dying down to a dull throb that would also eventually go away once she rested a little. Placing the second bottle down for a moment, the cougar gathered the notes together in a pile to go over later. She was going to have to start making calls soon. She’d need to get in contact with the leaders of respective shifter groups, as well as her less savoury contacts. She even had notes for a few defensive things she might need hidden beneath the other lists. "And we certainly don't want Nina being bratty either." As the words were heard by the cougar, she tossed the wolf an indignant look over her shoulder briefly, before picking up the bottle quickly and sloshing it behind her aiming at Jason’s shirt. “There. Now you cannot say I don’t share.” She pulled away quickly from his grasp with a smirk in case he tried to retaliate, and quickly ran around the other side of the island bench as she took another drink from the bottle. She rolled her eyes at the question of voting though and snorted. “They’re the same evil, just in different disguises.” Though she leaned against the counted slightly with a grin and nodded toward the bag, “You bought the drinks, Soulja Boi. If you want something, then take it. That is the way of the world after all, it seems.” |

An added benefit of being on PPIT's payroll was that Jason had access to a good deal of information. The potential access to personnel files could be a valuable asset if needed down the road. At least Jason could get an idea of how PPIT would play a role in the new order of Paris once a president was elected. Though in the back of his mind he worried that executioners would take on an entirely new role and place him in a precarious position. Still, if Emily wanted to try and form a coalition then it was best that the werewolf keep his job and stick with it. If he was ever given a warrant of execution for a fellow lycanthrope, well he would cross that bridge when he came to it. Dwelling on it now did nothing but create worries and tension anyway. "We'll have to see if we can even muster support. You know how some are... stuck in their ways or have no care for the other species." Jason could think of at least a few over the years, though hyenas had to be at the top of the list in the realm of not caring for anyone else in the lycan community but themselves. Perhaps that had changed though. Regardless, she at least had the backing of the Pack since it would be complete foolishness not to want to support each other. It was a topic of discussion that would have to be addressed when the wolves gathered at the Lupanar next. The liquid hit his chest, soaking through the dark material and the pungent smell of whiskey rising up to his nostrils. A grimace tightened his lips and jaw at the blonde's smart remark while she slipped out from his grasp. The wolf did not move after her though, just watching as she made sure to put plenty of space between the two of them. He did smirk though while peering down at his shirt before he tugged the slick material off of his chest. "If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was an elaborate reason to get my shirt off." His hazel eyes darted up at her, peering under his brows before he reached down and tugged the shirt free of his jeans. The whiskey stained garment was rolled up and tugged off his head before it joined his jacket on a nearby chair. Of course it wasn't the first time that he had gone shirtless around Emily's place. “You bought the drinks, Soulja Boi. If you want something, then take it. That is the way of the world after all, it seems.” "I wouldn't have even bothered if you had not of asked." Though at her 'invitation' he gladly plopped down where she had originally been sitting before he pulled a bottle out for himself, "I think one of your first goals should be to find an underground supplier of some lycan strength firewater." Jason peered at the liquid once the bottle was opened, as if scrutinizing it, before it was tipped back. |

“I’m sure we’ll at least get support from a few groups at least. All we can do, is offer the suggestion. They each need to make their own decision ultimately... that goes for us too.” The cougar raised an eyebrow as she spoke. She knew very well Jason’s position at the moment, and it could lead to a whole lot of conflict of interest down the track depending on how the authorities decided to start running things. She just hoped the wolf didn’t end up getting himself in too deep nor did anything he might regret. Like mouthing off at her about being a brat. Emi couldn’t help the small giggle as she ducked away and got a little distance between them while he looked down at his whiskey drenched shirt with a grimace. Though the smirk soon appeared on his features and Emi simply grinned a little more ‘Cheshire cat’ like. The comment made about it being an reason to get his shirt off was met with a snort once she pulled the bottle from her lips once more, and she tilted her head at him with a chuckle, “Oh non, Jason. I do not need to waste perfectly good whiskey for that.” She smirked at the wolf, “I only have to ask.” The whiskey bottle was brought back to her lips and tipped back as she kept one eye on the wolf, watching as he made himself quite at home. Well, he’d spent enough time there over the years that it was almost like a second home to him by now. Of course, with the manor as hidden as it was, surrounded by the dense forest, it never made much sense for him to drive all the way back into town anytime he was out there late. Not that either of them ever had any complaints. Figuring it was pretty safe considering Jason had taken a seat, now, Emi walked back around from the other side of the kitchen and took up another chair at the table, propping her head up with one arm. She smirked at the suggestion of finding lycanthrope strength alcohol and shrugged. “I have a guy who knows some people in Italy that apparently brew some amazing liqueur.” In fact, she had some on order for a few of her friends who could handle their normal alcohol a little too easily, much like herself and Jason. Not that she was a raging alcoholic, but it would be nice to be able to get a buzz from less than one bottle rather than going through a few at a time. Closing her eyes, she sighed and relaxed for a short time in silence. It wasn’t a an awkward thing to just be quiet every now and then in each other’s company, in fact she felt quite comfortable in it. It was good enough just to have the man there rather than sitting around by herself as she did a lot of nights when she wasn’t working. Though after a few moments, she spoke again after taking another swig from the bottle, realising by its weight that she’d almost gone through her second already, “Pass over another, mon ami?” She opened an eyelid and glanced at him, “So... did you go inspect that potential safe house you were telling me about the other day?” |

“Oh non, Jason. I do not need to waste perfectly good whiskey for that. I only have to ask.” "Well now you don't have to ask." Both brows were raised at the cougar from where he sat, his head tilted to one side with the hint of a smirk playing over his full lips. If there was one thing that Jason had to learn over the years was how to keep up with Emily and her wit and spontaneity. Though he had never known her prior before she became a mother, it was evident that parenthood had made her no slouch. Absently he wondered just what she had been like before she had Nina. But he was never really one to pry; not unless it became necessary to do so. With her seat stolen, the werewolf watched as she moved around to find another seat before he shifted in his own. A glance over at the wall clock showed that it was well into the a.m., not that it was an odd occurence. But it did make Jason thankful that he was not pigeonholed into a stringent nine-to-five job. He would probably be a zombie with these late nights at Emily's. Then again, she had a lot more on her plate with her job and with her daughter than he did. The hint of a smirk spread into a slight grin as she explained that she did know someone who could ship them some stronger liquor. Jason was no raging alcoholic either, but it was truly a downer that someone who had been given enhanced senses and abilities could not at least get buzzed. Considering the election, whoever her supplier was would have a prime market for lycanthropes who wanted to forget the world's woes. At the request for another, Jason leaned forward to retrieve another bottle from the bag before handing it over while mentally noting that it had been a good idea to grab a few extra bottles. At this rate they would go through all of it before the night was over, "Yeah actually..." His back settled back against the chair once the whiskey had been passed, "It was originally owned by one of the old Ulfric's years ago... but times goes on and stuff like that gets forgotten, even though everything is pretty much passed down from pack leader to pack leader." A brief pause, the bottle was raised to his lips with the liquid sloshing down his throat before it was replaced a few swallows later. Jason did his best not to grimace at the taste before continuing, "Spent a day getting the electric and water on... getting it wired... all the major things. I plan on having Jocelyn venture out with me. Might be a good place for her... poor girl is in some stinking hostel right now." |

The wolf’s smirk was reflected back at him as she brushed past to sit down and teased lightly, “You assume I was going to?” Despite the hardship, Emi really hadn’t changed much over the years, unless it came to her responsibilities with Nina. It was fun to get a rise out of the pup, though he’d learned over time to just roll with the nature of the blonde and quip back. Emi was still unsure just how they managed to end up becoming so close. Even if he’d saved their lives, back then she’d never really expected that someone would care to look out for the new mother and child. But one visit turned into two and then continued on until they were usually in contact most days, even if just over the phone. Jason had been included in their small family, and she appreciated the addition after the gaping wound that was left behind with the loss of her twin sister and only family member she’d had left. Life would have been much harder for the young teen mother if not for him. Her thoughts having wondered slightly, Emi had to shake her head a little to bring herself back to the present before finishing off the second bottle and reaching for the one that was being passed over. She glanced at the clock and raised her brows at the time – it had disappeared somewhere. Discarding the empty bottle, she twisted the cap off the fresh one and brought it to her lips as Jason answered her question about the safe house while she listened. The blonde tipped her chair onto its back legs and balanced herself as she brought her feet up onto the table lazily, the beginnings of a buzz already starting to slowly work its way through after quickly devouring two full bottles of whiskey. Pulling it from her lips, she couldn’t help but smirk slightly, “Ahh... so ‘inherited’, just like how I ended up with this home then?” The smirk sobered to more of a fond smile as he continued on to mention his idea of letting one of the submissives live there and look after the place. She really believed he was already a good Ulfric, just from the care he took of the Pack alone. “That sounds like a wonderful plan. Besides, its not like you need a place considering you bum around here half the time.” The smirk returned as she eyed him cheekily and lifted the bottle back to her lips. |

"Who knows... you're hard to keep up with sometimes." His voice had a matter-of-fact tone to it, not that Jason really needed to tell Emily that she could be difficult. Infact the werewolf was pretty sure she knew and often used that to her advantage. It had taken a lot to get use to since Jason had never really gotten close to anyone like he had with Emily before. Their relationship was a little bit different from what he shared with the other Pack wolves. Though he never anticipated (how could he have?) becoming this close with the werecougar, even if it was nothing as deep as a commited relationship. They were close in that they trusted each other, probably more than anyone else in the world. At least Jason knew he trusted no one else like he did Emily. Then, of course, there was also the physical aspect of their relationship. But it had never went beyond just sex and physical comfort. Not that there was a part of Jason, deep down, that maybe felt a bit more than that. He kept it hidden well enough. Besides, there were other things to be concerned about now. First priority was to make sure the Pack, Nina and Emily were all safe. “Ahh... so ‘inherited’, just like how I ended up with this home then?” "Pretty much... not nearly as huge though. Four beds and a huge side room that people can bunk in. Just needs a good cleaning and new paint." He trailed off as he noted the fond smile on her face, wondering for a moment what the woman was thinking. Unfortunately he did not have the advantage of reading minds like she did, “That sounds like a wonderful plan. Besides, its not like you need a place considering you bum around here half the time.” As quickly as that smile had been there it was gone again and the wolf snorted while tipping the bottle back before it was lowered, "Whatever... you'd get lonely here if it weren't for me coming around to entertain you and Nina." Of course he enjoyed his visits and maybe he was at the manor a lot, but he had not heard any legitimate complaints yet. Only the annoying questions from some packmates regarding his relationship, "But you'll have to see it sometime..." At least there would be no long standing Lukoi rules being broken by having the cougars over at the safe house as the Lupanar was out of the question. |

“Variety is the spice of life I hear,” Emi chuckled and aimed a small grin at the wolf, “Someone has to keep you on your toes, mon ami.” She knew very well that she made a lot of things difficult, and she did it on purpose. Perhaps it was a way to balance out the occasional feeling of guilt that would override her whenever something reminded her of the past, but it also helped keep her and those around her in lighter spirits. The doctor would go crazy if she had to be serious all the time, and she didn’t like to dwell on the bad – creating more fun was just a good way to move past it when she needed to. It helped a lot to have someone she could trust with her worries and secrets, though she generally kept the times that she felt haunted to herself. Mainly because it was her own personal problem that she had to get past. Five years down the track, and it was still clearly evident anyway that she still carried a lot of grief from the past. A part of her perhaps not willing to let go of what she’d done not only to her own family, but someone else’s too. Emi drank easily at the bottle, but still had her attention on Jason, even as he trailed off. Though, she didn’t pry as to what he seemed to be looking at. Raising a brow for a moment, she then decided not to ask, but considered what it would take to fix the place up. “I am sure you could get some of the pack to help out there. It would be done in no time.” The seriousness never lasted long though and she smirked at his snort as they both decided that whiskey was the best fuel for beginning another war of the wits. She grinned with a small snicker and rolled her eyes, “Bored maybe... at least you manage to provide some entertainment if nothing else.” She poked her tongue out before snorting lightly herself, “The place always ends up in a mess though. Really, I do not know who the biggest child in the house really is sometimes.” Naturally, half of that was her own fault a lot of the time, and the honest answer was that she was probably the biggest child, but she couldn’t help but tease. “Ah, I am sure we will see it. Nina does so love visiting new places, and would probably enjoy meeting more wolves than you and Cara.” They were the only two wolves her daughter had met, mostly because Emi spent time around the both of them. Lupanar was just something that the cougars would never go to, it was a pack thing. But it would be nice for the girl to associate some of the names she heard occasionally with faces. The cougar shrugged nonchalantly, the twitch of another smirk on her lips, “We could always come and watch you all sweating it out while you fix the place up.” |

“Someone has to keep you on your toes, mon ami.” More of the whiskey was drained down Jason's throat while he listened to Emily. A hint of a smile touched the corners of his lips while the liquid flowed over his lips. The male was not downing the drinks like Emily was, considering he was only on his first and she was well on her way to the end of her second, "Hmm... Emilia Deveraux or being in the middle of a fire fight." The smile broadened to a small grin after the bottle was returned to the table top, "Tough choice." He would probably cop a slap or kick with that remark, but he was willing to take the brunt of a 'punishment' that the werecougar wanted to dish out. It was all in good fun after all and he had already made himself quite at home; Jason had pretty much settled in to spend the night. The shirt had probably dried by now, but he did not bother to put it back on. On the subject of the safe house preparations he nodded at her suggestion, "Yeah, was planning on it... like I said, I think it might be a good thing for Jocelyn. She's... well, a bit timid about being in a big Pack. Still trying to find her place and what she is." The werewolf scrubbed a hand through his dark hair as he looked off for a moment, Jason knew that he had his work cut out for him in trying to make sure everyone felt comfortable and safe; regardless if they were young or old. The old Ulfric's murdered still cut deep and the Pack had not been able to exact revenge. Then there were cases like Joss; newcomers to the city who needed to be guided. His hand dropped from hair to his face to rub around his eyes and the bridge of his nose. Jason still was not sure if he could handle the added responsibilities. True he had been Freki before, but he was not the end all, be all in the decisions that were made either. “We could always come and watch you all sweating it out while you fix the place up." "Har har. Give them even more reason to gossip." Another swig of the whiskey was taken at that remark before Jason leaned back in the chair and rested the bottle on one of his thighs, "I hope to have it liveable by the end of the month at least... with these elections, well... it's best to be prepared." His gaze drifted off for a moment, 'I wonder if we might have to do something more to protect the Lupanar...' It was a random thought and yet at the same a legitimate one. They would have to wait and see though... and Jason really hated waiting. |

Amusement pulled at Emilia’s features as Jason compared whether it was better to deal with her or a fire fight and she rolled her eyes when it was suggested that it was a difficult decision. With a smirk, she flicked the bottle top at the wolf, “I know which one you prefer, or you wouldn’t be over here so often... or so eager to get your own clothes off.” The cougar grinned; she already knew he wouldn’t be going anywhere tonight. And considering the buzz that had relaxed her so much that the headache seemed to have been forgotten, the idea of snuggling up with the wolf was a pleasing one. The blonde nodded as he spoke about how the house would be a good thing for the submissive Jocelyn. At least there was a reasonably safe place for the pack members to retreat to if anything began to brew in the city as well. Who know what could happen after the new President was elected? It wasn’t the most comforting thought given the speeches that both of them dished out on a daily basis. “I hope she settles in well. I still remember when I was still new.” The blonde smiled slightly before pulling the bottle to her lips for another drink. The first year or so had been tough, despite having Jason there to help. Not only had she been a new shifter without any other cougars around to help, but she’d had to look after her baby as well. There’d been many long nights and tears, having to watch a young baby go through the pain of the shift had been hard. The tension and worry that came with Jason’s new position hadn’t gone unnoticed though, and Emi smiled as she rocked slightly on the back chair legs, “Do not worry, you are doing a wonderful job. And I am always around to bitch to if you need it.” Eyes rolled again at the mention of making the gossip worse though, perhaps a slight bit of amusement in the idea, “As if there is anything else anyone could say. Instead, you should just be happy its a young, hot, little blonde werecougar they gossip about you hanging around with and not a cougar of the other variety.” The grin on her lips spread teasingly before she shrugged, “Then again, who knows what else you may be into other than kitty cats.” 'I wonder if we might have to do something more to protect the Lupanar...' The thought wasn’t missed by the woman, but she raised an eyebrow and changed the subject from the previous teasing, “So I was considering setting up some security around the property, sensors and things. Perhaps close around the house... you know...” She just couldn’t behave herself, and a sly grin widened her lips again, “... to keep an eye out for canine perverts.” Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Nov 25 2008, 03:17 AM.

"Got me all figured out huh?" The expression on Jason's face was one of feigned skepticism as the bottle cap sailed in his direction. It bounced against his chest before it dropped down onto his lap. Soon the cap was flicked back up to where it clunked on the tabletop, "Besides, I haven't heard any complaints from you either. Though if you prefer... I can put it back on." There was the slightest hint of mischief in Jason's rich hazel eyes, just to see how the woman might respond. With head his tilted back, the remains of the whiskey bottle were drained and the wolf grimaced at the bitterness that had settled since he opened it. Despite the taste, the burning sensation was not minded so much and something he had gotten use to rather quickly; especially after he started drinking more with Emi. "I hope she does too." Jason had not only experienced his own adjustments to after being infected, but he had witnessed the same in both Emily and Nina. The species gap made it difficult for him to really assist her, all he could do was coach and offer whatever comfort that he or his beast could. He'd seen how painful it had been for Nina and how much it pained Emily to watch. There really had been nothing worse than to watch those shifts. He had to banish those memories from his mind and took a deep breath, Jason almost missed what Emily had said in regards to his new position. Though he was glad he had managed to tune in time, "Thanks... I'll keep that in mind." “Then again, who knows what else you may be into other than kitty cats.” The American blinked at her for a moment. Admittedly he was caught off guard by her tease, but it seemed the subject shifted to more in line with what he had been wondering. Had she been reading his thoughts or did something slip out? He never really understood how her telepathy worked, "... you know... to keep an eye out for canine perverts.” Jason snorted at her, "A lot of good that'll do since you'll probably give me the codes, right?" Not that he was a pervert, but he knew exactly who she was referring to in her teasing way. |

Emi snickered at the comment of having Jason all figured out and shrugged with the bottle near her lips, “Naturally, I know you even better than you know yourself.” She grinned widely before taking another drink from what was her third bottle and raised an eyebrow at the offer to put his shirt back on before her own eyes reflected the same mischief as the wolf’s. “You already know my rules, pup. You make yourself comfortable and help yourself to whatever you would like. Far be it for me to make you get dressed again if you feel more comfortable as you are.” Not that she ever really had anything to complain about, there was no part of them that either hadn’t seen before and she wasn’t about to become shy any time soon. There had been the thought cross her mind to offer to even the playing field, but that faded away when the mood temporarily took on a slight serious note again with the reminders of their own experiences when they were fresh shifters. Not that it lasted long when Emi had teased Jason again, something she enjoyed being good at. She noticed his hesitation for a moment as she basically brought the subject to what he was thinking, but recovered quickly enough with the help of more of her buzzed prodding and she chuckled at his snort and the assumption that she would give him the code. Well... of course she would, but he really sounded awfully sure of himself, which made the mischievous part of her spark up even further. Emily feigned shock, “And grant full access to the number one offender? Oh my goodness, I could not possibly continue to allow you to have free run of the house. I need my escapes you know...” The cougar teased the wolf as she set the chair back on all fours and brought her feet back down so she could lean closer to him. The mischievous yet sultry gleam in her eye would have been a familiar one to the man, as well as the wicked smile. “Who knows what you might do to me when I do something like this?” The smile was still set on her features as she watched Jason’s eyes, then in a flash her hand came up with the half empty bottle she had and tipped it upside down over his head. Thankful that she had mostly tiling through the ground floor, the cougar didn’t waste time in bolting from her seat and out the back doors. |

“Naturally, I know you even better than you know yourself.” Not exactly the most comforting thought, but Jason kept that to himself while she beamed in his direction and had another mouthful of whiskey. The way she was downing the bottles, he imagined that the cougar was probably feeling pretty good by then, even if it nothing near lycan strength. At least she would be more relaxed. The werewolf had really not made a move toward getting his shirt back on to back up the 'threat' he had made. He knew that Emily was laid back (at least when it didn't come to work or stressing about the elections or Nina... though with good reason). Besides, the two of them had explored each other's bodies over and over for the duration they had known each other. “And grant full access to the number one offender? Oh my goodness, I could not possibly continue to allow you to have free run of the house. I need my escapes you know...” Jason rolled his head to one side and shot his eyes upward in a short eye roll, "Uh huh... after you just said to make myself comfortable and help myself to whatever I like. You cats are so finicky." Though when Emily leaned forward, his eyes met hers and were caught in that gleam. It was a familiar gleam he had seen many times in the bedroom and admittedly it got his blood flowing just to see it, “Who knows what you might do to me when I do something like this?” During that split second a look of confusion was written on Jason's face just before the whiskey flowed all over his head, instantly matting his hair and pouring over his bare chest and back. "Oh what the--!" Before he even realized, a golden blur had taken off out the back door. So that was how she wanted to play huh? Reeking of whiskey, the male wolf was on his feet and persuing the fleeing cougar out into the darkness of the Estate. While he could see well enough with the light provided by the stars, partial moon and the lights inside the home, Jason's most precious sense was being fogged by the overwhelming stench of alcohol. "You are so gonna get it!" He called before taking off in a direction that he thought he could catch a whiff of feline under the acrid smell. |
