Cougars
General Information
- A clan of cougars can be referred to as a 'Stalk'
- The cougar species is rare and until the last few years has only ever been found in South, Central, and few parts of North America
- Cougar lycanthropy can be inherited: females are able to reproduce and are quite fertile, and like tigers they must pass their beast onto a male to prevent shifting during pregnancy
- Unknown to most of the world due to their remote locations, traditional Cougars in South and Central America live in a more 'tribal' based structure, clans are usually led by the strongest/largest family in the area and the dominant matriarch of that family especially is always respected as the official 'leader'
- Since most cougars are usually solitary creatures, dominant singles or small families can still officially belong to a clan without having to make regular contact unless they wish to - so as not to 'suffocate' one another
- Unless belonging to a tribe and officially mated, a fertile female can often be seen as free pickings to any dominant male. There are some cases of women having a few children to different men.
- It is not an uncommon occurance for cougars to have 'litters' of two or three children at a time due to females producing more than one fertile ova per cycle
- Suspected due to the cougar's closer relationship to domestic felines than other big cats, cougar pregnancies can often be known to accelerate rapidly after two or three months (the baby's growth returning to normal once born). This has unfortunately led to a 70-80% mortality rate for pregnant female cougars and their unborn offspring due to some being unable to handle the bodily stress it is known to cause.
- For the previous reason there is no pressure to reproduce if a female doesn't wish to and it is usually only the stronger ones that do (hence why matriarchs are respected). It is not uncommon for many cougar females to have themselves 'fixed' at a young age.
- Due to the close family nature of cougars, they also happen to be one of the most aggressive species when it comes to protecting what is theirs, to the point where paternal or maternal beasts are susceptible to bloodlust rage if they feel their family/clan is threatened
- Males who actually settle into a family with a single chosen mate (usually a fertile female they consider equally strong) have a tendancy to become the most territorial - sometimes to the point of killing off lesser dominant males if they show themselves to be competition or threat. A dominant paired male will only accept submissive males near his family without any threat of conflict.
- Single dominant males can avoid conflict with paired ones if they are willing to show respect to the female through a single gesture of submission to her as matriarch of her family upon the very first meeting, to let her know he isn't a threat to her
- Children can go up to five years without ever having shifted, but parents are encouraged to bring their shift on within the first three months as it is more easily adjusted to earlier
Reinha
Emilia Deveraux
The head matriarch of the territory, she is the recognised main leader and is respected for her strength and dedication to her family and clan
Rey
As the Reinha's mate, his most important role is to see to the safety of the clan's matriarch - a more aggresive half to balance the maternal leadership
Abuela(F)/Abuelo(M)
Marcy DeLaine [NPC]
An 'elder' or wise woman or man - usually one who was once Reinha or Rey in their younger years - they act as a teacher and guide for young families
Guarda
Fay Josselyn
The bodyguard(s) of the Reinha and/or her children should the Rey be absent for any period of time, or they be required for extra protection (Stalk defence)
Soldado
Salvatore dos Santos
The enforcer(s) of the Stalk, who assist the Reinha or Rey with the messy part of 'taking care' of things (Stalk offence)
