Application Info + H /R system On Romantic Delusions, we’re going to try a slightly different profile system to most other RP boards. We call this the History/Rumors system. Basically, it’s a way for people to create characters and define that character’s preternatural social image at the same time. This is essential because we’ll be dealing with very powerful vampires in high positions whose social celebrity image is a very important one to take into consideration. The way it works is like so: When writing up your profile, you would decide on how to define what you want to initially reveal about your character. You may write a full, in depth history about them or, alternatively, you may simply write about your character as others may perceive them or as others would hear of them. The way profiles are differentiated are in the post title next to character’s name. For instance, The Mother of Darkness would have a fully rumorised profile (as it is in the Anita Blake cannon) which would be titled as ‘R: Mother of all Darkness’ Here are the rules for this as follows.... H: History. When filling out the application form, a historical profile must have ALL relevant fields filled out. (such as name, birth name, age etc.) For this sort of initial profile, it is not encouraged to write a minimal amount and then reveal further history as the storyline progresses. This is a very typical sort of profile that most of us would be used to by now… You have two options for writing this type of profile: - Autobiography : Your character tells of their own history - Biography: You as a writer write about your character’s history R: Rumor. This is our new sort of profile. For this, you do not have to fill out every last detail of every piece of information – at this time.. You may allow information to be revealed about your character as the storyline progresses. This sort of profile is based purely on what others would know about your character and not from their own personal memoirs or whatnot. (Think of how Marmee Noir is perceived in the Anita Blake series by characters such as Jean Claude or others that may not have encountered her.) You may in this sort of profile make a character that is quite glorious but in fact is not, or vice-versa. Note: This sort of profile may only be written in third person. You are to sort your rumor profile as follows: - Who might this information be flowing through? (Who is telling all these rumors about your character and how plausible they are when being spoken by these people/things?) - Rumors that describe who your character is and where they’re from (basically, where people believe your history lies) - Rumors about their occupation and/or position (Well, you’ve gotten somewhere. Now what have you done to get there? What do people know you’ve done to get there? What do people believe you do in your job?) - Rumors about their personal life and how it affects them and their social/celebrity position (self explanatory) Rumor profiles may stretch the truth a bit, as rumors tend to (obviously). However, you are more susceptible to getting your profile rejected or criticized or marked for ‘improvement’ by the admins if you make it too farfetched. So be cautious. Rumor = no history then? Not necessarily. If you write up a rumor type of profile, and develop your character further as you Role Play more, you are allowed to elaborate on your profile. We currently recommend keeping a log of your character’s process on the site so you may refer back to it and put together a full detailed historical profile to accompany your public ‘rumors’ profile. In other words, although you start with one, you may do the other one as time progresses. There will be a special part of the site where you may place your logs, character profiles and any other important character development threads. In other words, if you start with one type of profile, you may later on create another. A log? What is this wood talk? No, it’s not wood, but a journal sort of log. A post in your very own section of the forum where you might keep track of your character’s progress. Nobody’s going to spoon feed you for this and tell you how to keep this log. You either do it or don’t. When this log grows and your character develops some sort of interesting storyline worth of noting, you may summarize in a historical profile which would be placed in the same forum as your rumor profile Sounds good. So what do I do to implement this profile stuff? Simple. Fill out the profile application form as you see fit and in accordance to the format you have chosen. In order to tell us exactly what you’ve chosen place the right letter in accordance of your profile type before your name in the subject line, as mentioned before. If you fail to do this, your profile will not be taken into consideration. Great. When can I start playing? Keep a look out for your profile after you’ve posted it. An administrator of the forum will look at your profile and come to a decision based on what we read. If your profile is deemed acceptable and we believe you’ve met our standards (which are basic standards for a high level Role Play Forum. Nothing special.) then we will approve of it and change your user title accordingly. If we have any problems or comments, we will message you with them and clarify anything that need be clarified. Once you are approved, you may start playing wherever. Note: If your profile is deemed absurd, offensive, or we just believe it doesn’t meet our standards, it will be rejected. You will be told that you’ve been rejected. You may or may not get a reason. Most likely will. Repeat information Some stuff you need to know… Avatar Size is 200 pixels in height and 125 pixels in width. No more. No less. If you need help with resizing, there are plenty of people on the site to help out with that in the graphics request forum. Ask and you shall receive. Signature sizes: Don’t stretch the page. Don’t fill the page. Don’t slow down anyone’s internet connection noticeably. Don’t exceed 500x 200px. Anime characters are not acceptable. Neither are any sort of cartoons or irrelevant icons. Your avatar must be an (*)image of your character and your signature must be relevant to it. No advertising of anything outside RD. You may include a maximum of two lines text with your signature. Links to your profile are encouraged and as are lists of all your other playable characters. (*)Single frame file of Jpg, Jpeg, Gif or PNG format. Update 29/5/08: Any images that violate these rules will be removed with no prior warning. And remember kids, Shiina is very spiteful towards those that don’t follow her guidelines. Happy writings to all, ~Shiina & Raye |
