He is an attractive vampire, however not as attractive as one blessed by Belle Mortes favor. Picture: ![]() Name of person pictured above: Yoshiki Personality Description: What can one say about a vampire who feeds off sadness, depression and despair? Masaru is quite the morbid being. He is usually calm and collected, and rarely loses his temper. He is strangely normal for a vampire who surrounds himself with sadness. He enjoys his own company the most, though he does see the importance in working as a team. Masaru is quite manipulative when it comes to humans and human emotion and works in a morgue and at funerals when he can. This works for him – he rarely feels the blood lust due to the amount of people who come in and out of the place in the evening to late night. He still drinks blood every so often though. He isn't really a relationship person, though he has been known to seek out vampires with the Ardeur to feed his addiction to it. He is a master vampire in his own right, his ability to feed from sadness unseen before in the Morte D'Amour's bloodline. Masaru is also into mind games and vampire politics, having served in the vampiric court in Japan for quite some time. He is quite happy to serve under a master of the city, however he has been forced to take a seat at the council. Likes: -Funerals -Mass chaos (for feeding purposes) -Vampires who share the Ardeur -'Sleeping' on 100% pure animal skin -Reading -Death -Sewing -Drawing/coming up with concepts for new clothes -Beagles (the dog) -Freak parties Dislikes: -Being denied/rejected -Being asked for advice on matters that don't directly concern him -Modern Technology (though he uses it all the same) -His work being criticized -Humans against Vampires -Not being able to taste food Strengths: -Always well fed -His ability to raise sadness -Strong minded -Not as phased by emotion as he should be -Brilliant actor (Comes in useful whilst feeding at the funeral parlor) -Good at mind games & vampire politics -Loyal to the master of the city -Speaks fluent Japanese & English Weaknesses: -Incredibly bad at relationships (hence he is rarely ever in one.) -Growing addiction to the Ardeur -Accidentally making people kill themselves (it has happened several times, though the deaths were never put down as a vampires fault.) Fears: -Being denied the ardeur -Being put on a list for Execution -Being locked up in a coffin (though that doesn't scare him half as much as having the Ardeur taken away from him.) History/Biography: Human Life Born 'Toshiro Akutagawa' in 1456 in Kyoto, Masaru doesn't remember much of his human childhood. What he can recall is that his mother was beautiful, and that his father was a warrior, who 'disappeared' in the Onin wars when he was a child, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. His mother found another male, and they were soon married. It took a while for Masaru to get used to the male, and soon called him father as well. His stepfather had broken his leg some time ago, and was deemed unfit to fight in the war. He is sure that his family was poor, he remembers fights between his mother and step-father about food, and that he had to steal from the streets many times to survive. He remembers being in awe of the richer looking people in the streets, and wanting to ride around on horses and carts. When he came of age, Masaru himself was sent to fight in the wars, with almost no training whatsoever. He learnt quickly though, and managed to stay alive in the wars for almost a century, usurping the rank of Daimyo, or warlord in the process. It was just after his 23th year of life (he had forgotten his exact birth date during the chaos that usually comes with the War) that he was abducted by the enemy. He was blindfolded, beaten, and taken to a place far from the war – he was placed on a ship, and it was only after the land could no longer be seen that his blindfold was removed. They sailed for a long time, through storms and sun, and Masaru never spoke. He was fed the bare minimum he needed to survive. When they finally arrived at their destination some months later, Masaru was starved, his ribcage and bones extremely noticeable. Through some luck, or fate, or some sort of miracle, the enemy had arrived at the wrong destination, miles off from wherever they had wanted to take him. They argued amongst themselves – Masaru doesn't know what they said, he was unable to pay attention to much more than his hunger and exhaustion. He was set free in the new strange land, the enemy which he later discovered was China. He managed to survive on stealing and sleeping in gutters for a year, before being taken in by a Buddhist temple. It was there that he met Hairul, a vampire from Morte D'Armour's line. The Turning Hairul was a Buddhist monk when he had been turned, and was flamboyantly homosexual, something that Masaru found out after a night of drinking, and wild sex. Looked down on at that period of time, Masaru and Hairul kept that incident a secret. Masaru chose to ignore the vampire, however Hairul had different plans. He kept up his advances for months, Masaru eventually gave in and the two developed a close relationship, which was more sexual than anything else. During one night of terror, after Hairul realized his powers, he accidentally rotted on top of Masaru during sex. Masaru was horrified, and left immediately, preferring to sleep at the Buddhist temple than with the vampire. The next night, Masaru told Hairul that he no longer wanted to see him, for any reason. In a fit of pure rage, Hairul drained Masaru of all blood and left him to die. Masaru did not. Instead, he rose as a vampire the next night, screaming at Hairul for turning him into a monster. Hairul disappeared, and Masaru was left to learn about the ups and downs of vampirism by himself. Life as a Vampire One of the first things he did after the turning, was head back to Japan. He wanted to find his family. He snuck onto a boat, hiding in one of the many creates they used for transport. He fed off rats – of which there were many –, after accidentally killing a human due to blood lust. For the most part, he spent his time hidden. Upon arrival to Japan, he searched for his mother and stepfather. However when he arrived at his house, he found it destroyed, a result of the war that was still raging on. He didn't find their bodies, and so assumed that they escaped. After a month or so of looking around Japan for signs of his family, he assumed that they were not dead, and had made it out alive. He never heard about them again, the death toll was high and the probability of finding them was slim. Eventually, as all vampires do, Masaru met the Master of the City. Of course, he was in Kyoto at this time. He swore an oath to the master, who was of Nemhains line. It was during this time that he dropped his birth name, and called himself Masaru. The master had set up a system of 'mentor' vampires, in which older vampires helped newer vampires. Masaru's mentor was Sakura, a woman who he came to love in time. The kiss, for the most part, stayed hidden underground until the Odin war was over, some 60 years later. During those hundred years, Masaru learnt about vampire politics, as well as getting used to his own vampirism. He and Sakura also became romantically involved, and it was during this time that he developed an addiction to the Ardeur. This addiction inevitably was the cause of their separation, with Sakura believing that Masaru was only in the relationship so that she would roll him during sex. Masaru fell into a crazed state when she left, obsessed with finding a vampire willing to perform the ardeur on him. One day, he foolishly went to the Master of the City about this, and started screaming at him, demanding that someone use the ardeur on him. The Master refused, Masaru attacked him. Masaru was locked away in a coffin for half a century. When he was finally let out, his addiction was gone, and something more powerful had taken its place – the ability to feed off sorrow, despair and depression. It took the master of the city a year to figure out that Masaru had developed that ability, and by that time, Masaru had mastered it. Afraid that Masaru might, in centuries to come, try to take over, the Master of the city sent him to Tokyo, where there was supposedly, a much more powerful vampire in charge. As it turned out, staying in Tokyo was beneficial to Masaru in developing his powers. The master of the city was surprisingly encouraging, and through the next century, Masaru was able to invoke sadness, despair and depression in others easily. He also discovered his animal to call – the fox. Unfortunately for Masaru, not many foxes wanted much to do with a vampire who fed on and invoked depression, so his experimentation with lycanthropes was limited. However, he was not too bothered by this, as the Master of the City gave him many other lycanthropes and humans to test his powers on. Between him, and another vampire who invoked fear, their victims ended up more often than not, killing themselves in front of them. A powerful weapon, to be sure. Masaru was offered many candidates for Pomme de Sang, however they were all too happy or expectant for his liking. Instead of taking a pomme de sang, Masaru decided to live by feeding off human sadness on a regular basis – something made easy by the amounts of wars Japan jumped into. In 1639 however, this changed. Because of the mass political unity, and the 'closed country' policies, there were less deaths, less sorrows, and less food for Masaru to feed off. Instead of feeding off mass sorrow, Masaru was forced to feed of small sadnesses, such losing loved pets. It was in the mid 1600's that he became a mortician, and helped comfort the families of those who lost loved ones, taking the opportunity to feed his hunger. During the times of no war and little deaths, Masaru went back to relying heavily on blood, praying on drunkards who walked the streets alone. It was 200 years before Japan was opened again. Japan had been isolated from the world, and Masaru was amazed at the death dealing weapons the US brought to aggressively negotiate with. Japan dealt with an economic and political crisis after the 'invasion', however Masaru took the opportunity to learn about the outside world. He was fascinated. Asking permission from the master of the city, Masaru traveled to the US. He had a rough start there, though he picked up the English language over his brief 10 year stay. It was in California that his addiction to the Ardeur reflamed, after negotiating a deal with a vampire who agreed to bite him on the condition that he inflicted his enemies with such depression that they killed themselves. It was a sick and twisted deal, but Masaru so wanted to feel the ardeur on him again that he agreed. Those were very happy years for Masaru, he was well fed by those around his victims, and his addiction was fueled by the vampire who had struck the deal. He arrived back in Japan in 1914, just before the start of World War 1. The war went for a short 4 years, keeping Masaru well fed. However, feeding wasn't one of his main concerns. He needed to feed his addiction. He needed to find a vampire with the Ardeur. After a long negotiation with the Master of the City, it was agreed that Masaru would be rolled with the Ardeur twice a week, on the condition that he helped to torture possible enemies of the master. Of course, Masaru agreed. After ten years of this, the Master of the City decided to no longer fuel Masaru's addiction, for reasons unknown to him. He begged and pleaded with the Master, but the Master refused to budge on this position. Thats when, once again, Masaru resorted to violence, and once again, he was locked up in a coffin, this time, for nearly 90 years. He was finally let out by a new Master of Tokyo, who wished to utilize Masaru's ability to invoke sadness, and told him that he would get his fix of the Ardeur. Realizing that his addiction was crippling him, Masaru refused, and was looked upon as a liability. The new master of Tokyo decided to send him elsewhere, not wanting a vampire that wouldn't listen in his kiss. Upon hearing about the disappearance of the vampire council, the new Master of Tokyo decided to nominate Masaru for a position, and send him off there. Unfortunately for Masaru, he was forced to accept the position, the alternative being that his master try to kill him or lock him up again. He unhappily took the seat in Paris, France, and is waited for the council to start reforming... Family: Most likely deceased. Role Play Sample: “Hello my friend.” Masaru smiled at the dead body in front of him. It was yet to be embalmed, and tonight, it was Masaru's job to make sure the body was properly preserved. The body was already on the table, and all Masaru had to do was make an assessment. That was easy enough. The body was in perfect condition – it had been an elderly woman who had died, and the family had wanted a traditional open casket funeral to say their last goodbyes. Relatives were apparently coming from all over the world to help bid the woman farewell, and it would be a night funeral. How delicious. Masaru positioned the hands of the corpse together and delicately placed the head on a block. He closed the corpses mouth and eyes – the last thing any human wanted to see at a funeral was a relative with open eyes staring and a gaping mouth. After this, he washed the body all over with a sponge bath. It wasn't something that creeped Masaru out in the slightest, he had been doing this for centuries. The next bit was his favorite – draining the body of blood and filling it with the fluid that kept the bodies looking fresh. He moved the fingers and arms of the body to release rigor mortis that just might've set in. He was nearly finished now, and it had only taken him 2 hours. He applied make up to the corpses face, fixed her hair, did her nails...the whole works. “There you go, you look beautiful again, Miss Truford.” He grinned at the corpse. He couldn't wait for the funeral. Edited by Masaru, Jan 6 2009, 01:02 AM.
