Controlling Characters (Or Godmodding) You have but one character to control in any given roleplay: Your own. Do not attempt to dictate the actions of another person’s character. If you need another character to do something in order to progress your character’s story or some such, send them a PM or use OOC. Nobody likes to have somebody else controlling their character’s actions or speech, so don’t do it without first consulting the person in question. Deaths of characters are allowed – if the other person consents to it. Post Length & Style We would prefer posts to be written in third person. [[Endaxi walks to the door and yawns.]] This is to avoid confusion mainly. As for post length, there is no minimum or maximum. That being said, if you don't approve of another persons post, let them know. Usually, you would PM them for plot inconsistencies or things that just don't make sense. Please don't pm others to insult them over rp styles. If you can't solve it through Pms, politely leave the RP and make a mental note not to rp with said person again. Everyone has a different posting style, and not everyone is able to write 2000 words a post. Keeping track of the Storyline Actually read other people’s posts in a roleplay. It’s just plain annoying when somebody doesn’t pay attention to what others are saying, because it can disrupt the flow of the story or cause confusion when posts clash with each other. Out of Character Discussion Out of Character Discussion is an acceptable and useful way of discussing things that need to happen in a Roleplay. A good story needs at least some discussion in order to work properly, otherwise nobody is sure where exactly the roleplay is heading or what is meant to be happening. Use OOC or PMs to work out what needs to be done to get the roleplay going successfully – or post in the appropriate board. Respecting Each Other On RD, we expect you to respect each other, and to keep drama to a minimum and off the board. If there is a dispute directly relating to a thread or an RP, please direct myself (Raye) or Lil to the problem. No public insulting or defamation on RD is allowed, and it will result in a warning, or a ban, depending on the situation. If two people cannot solve a dispute calmly, and every possible method to solve said problem has been taken, the people involved will have a temporary ban - a 'cool off' period. Avatar size is 125(width) x 200(height) pixels. If you need help with resizing, there are plenty of people on the site to help out with that in the graphics request forum. Ask and you shall receive ![]() Signature sizes Make your sig a reasonable size...We expect you to know what this means. If your sig is larger than your (average) post content, then it is too large. If we believe your signature is too large, then we'll let you know. Just use common sense. Your sig shouldn't be stretching the page, OR filling the page ~ that is certainly something we frown upon! No 3000 width signatures please!! We would prefer real people to be used as your pb, however you can use other pictures if you desire. Your avatar must be an (*)image of your character. No advertising is allowed...we do have an advertising section after all! (*)Single frame file of Jpg/Jpeg, Gif or PNG format. Asterisks to denote Actions Using asterisks to designate your actions is no good. *Your character’s Action* is just bad RPing form. A roleplay is a story written by all its participants, a story like any book might have. I have yet to see a book in which the author uses asterisks to denote the current actions of the story’s characters. Quotation Marks Use them. It only takes an extra couple of keystrokes to enclose any spoken text in quotation marks, yet it makes it infinitely easier to understand. Especially when people seem unable to use the ‘Enter’ key, and thus all their text is in one giant block. It’s just too damned hard to try sifting through it all trying to decide whether or not somebody was talking, and if so, who was. General Punctuation Use of full stops (.) commas (,) quotation marks (“) capital letters (ABCD etc…) and paragraphs (created by using the handy ‘Enter’ key) is something that everybody should become familiar with. We’re all big boys and girls, we all go to school, where punctuation is taught from Grade 1. It’s not something you need a university degree to use well, yet it makes life easier for all other who are trying to read your posts. Character Limits The number of characters you can have is unlimited. However, please keep in mind that we all have limits as to how much we can write in a day. If you can't keep up with the threads of one character, please don't create seven. That being said, if you feel confident about taking on the roles of many characters, please do! Leadership/Power-role Rules To be in a position of power, you must be an active Roleplayer on this board. This means that you must make at least TWO roleplaying posts a week. If your character is going to be in a power position, then it must have at least two other ACTIVE (2 posts a week) characters who are going to be in the group following the (soon to be leader) character. In the event that a character wants to leave the group that your character is leading, then the group will be disbanded - two people do not make a group. However if a person leaves and there are more than three people in the group, then the group can stay active. If the leader of the group is not active, and another player wants to take over the group, then the player must consult an admin. The admin will check up on posts in the past month, and talk to the leader of the group before approving or disapproving the change. In the event of a different character wanting to take over a group, there will be a vote, which can only be used by the members in that group. The character with the most votes will be the leader. You can only have one leadership role across all your accounts. For example, if one of your characters is in the vampire council, and you want another character to become the leader of the wolves (ulfric), then you would have to give up the vampire council role, or choose not to take the ulfric role. There is only to be one power role per player (not character, player.) This is to ensure that everyone gets a fair go. NPCs We encourage the use of NPCs in roleplaying, and you can access the NPC account at any time. (Username: NPC, Password: orange) HOWEVER, we ask that only create NPCs that you intend to use. We will not be reserving NPC face claims unless they are in use. There is no need for a list of 200 NPCs of your characters family that you will never be using. PBs We are not accepting reservations for face claims. You either use a face claim, or you do not. It is unfair to reserve an PB for one player for a month whilst another player who wants to use it already has their character application up. Canons We will not be accepting canons. Everyone hates it when their characters are stolen from them, and I don't think Laurell or any other writer would appreciate it if their characters were stolen either. Please note: The Mother of All Darkness is an NPC as well, the account is not an RPing one. Thread Creation This is pretty simple - when creating a thread, after you put the title, state wether its an open thread (open to everyone), invite only (people must ask to be invited, or have already been invited to join) or a thread aimed at a particular person (2 or 3 player) For example:
