There was very little in the world, that pissed Mai off so bad that she couldn''t sweep under the rug and forget about later. Or at very least break something, and feel better about the entire thing later. However, she had spent an hour on her rooftop tossing off garden gnomes, and other decorations to the ground below. No matter how many cute little things she sacraficed to become nothing more than shattered bits of ceramic and dust, she found herself only more angry. Nobody, hung up with Mai Tai. Nobody. It had all been a blur, from the packing of her bags to booking the next available flight to Melbourne. Somehow she had done it all, holding Haru's hand along the way. Yeah, he was coming with her. If she was going to fly first class, just to clear up the mystery stink coming from Cheiu's bullshit, might as well get EVERYTHING out in the open. She should have just left things well enough alone, but that had never really been her style, at least not when it came to people she formed attachments to. Sure, it was love that made her drive to the airport, get on that fucking plane, and made sure Haru joined the Mile High Club but she'd probably never admit to anyone and let them live later. If anyone asked, this was purely a trip to kick the fuck out of Cheiu for being a punk bitch and maybe to get the two back together. Maybe. Yeah, it all sounded good in theory. Hell, she was pretty sure of herself that they would be able to find him quick. It wasn't until they had made it to their hotel room, and she had pulled out the phone book that for the first time in her life she actually doubted herself. She was absently running fingers through Haru's hair, while his head rested in her lap. She'd forgotten about being pissed now. No, that wasn't completely true but she was dealing with it in the wake of her own concern for her little Choo Choo. If it came to it, she would call every mother fucker in the phone book to find him. |

It'd been the ungodly hour of 12pm when Mai had quite literally dragged Haruhisa out of bed and onto a plane, not even allowing him to change out of his fluro-green pyjamas. Haruhisa had been drowsy for most of the trip, falling asleep in the car a couple of times. But for the times he'd been awake, he'd known one thing – Mai was mad. And an angry mother was not someone to argue with, ever. It wasn't until they were on the plane that he had realized that they were ON A PLANE. He'd spent the rest of the time tuning in and out of sleep. Joining the Mile High Club was certainly a wake up call. A hot, sexy, wake up call. His protests and questions of where exactly they were going were soon replaced by other noises, which certainly sounded nothing like protest. The rest of the flight had been so boring he'd fallen asleep once again, waking up when they were at...where?? Mai told him not long after that they were in Australia, in Melbourne of all places. What the hell were they doing there anyway? Oh. Cheiu... Haruhisa had nearly forgotton him amoungst the drugs and the awesome sex and the sleeping. But what exactly was Cheiu doing in Melbourne? It made no sense to him whatsoever. Haruhisa just had assumed that Cheiu was going to the country or something...he didn't think that his ex??-lover was going to fly overseas. Thinking about it had made him upset, and so when they got back to the hotel, somewhere along the line he had wound up lying in Mai's lap after a quiet sulking session. Half an hour later, Mai was dragging them somewhere else, and Haruhisa began to wonder where the fuck his drug stash was. It wasn't in the suitcase that Mai had packed for him, nor were his cigarettes. Geezus he needed a cigarette. Or some weed...or candy..or SOMETHING. “Mai...Mai...I need a cigarette...” His eyes were constantly jumping to supermarkets and small convenience stores. The cravings were now beginning to get to him. Damnnit. They soon arrived at a house, which Haruhisa assumed that Cheiu was at. Dragged to the door by Mai, Haruhisa felt increasingly apprehensive and nervous. If only he had a cigarette... When the door opened, Haruhisa's eyes automatically hit the floor, staring at shoes that he recognized well. Conversation was ignored as he scratched his arm and fidgeted, the cravings not going away in the slightest. It was almost like an involuntary cold turkey, so to speak. And he didn't like it one bit. |

Cheiu had been wrong; the day he'd found out about his father's death had not been the worst since he could remember. At least, not anymore. The days of Hyo's funeral, and when he'd first arrived back in Melbourne, were. He hadn't known how to feel. He hadn't known what to do or to say, or even how to look; he'd just been completely lost. Upon arriving in Melbourne, the first thing he'd done was go to his mother's home, and slapped her. Yes, he'd actually slapped his mother. After that they'd spent about twenty minutes yelling at one another, before spending the next several hours simply discussing everything that had happened.. and then, he'd sat there holding her as she cried over her lost husband. Of course, the anger they'd both been experiencing at one another since he was kicked out was still there now, and he hadn't spoken a word to her since the funeral had ended - but in that time when she'd just been bawling her eyes out, soaking his shirt with her tears.. dear god. He didn't even know how to describe it, it'd just been so.. emotional? That wasn't the right word. In that short time, everything had been out in the open between them. He could've told her anything, and in the end no matter what it said it would've been led back to that one main subject: His dead father, and her dead husband. Who'd taken his own life. The moment he'd left her house, things had gone back to normal. Nothing had really changed between them - they weren't suddenly going to act like they once had, with a normal mother-son kind of relationship. They weren't even on speaking terms. Nothing, had changed.. and yet, everything felt so different. At the funeral itself, the only person he'd really spoken more then a word to, had been his uncle. Yukie's brother. Cheiu hadn't seen the man in years, but still, out of all the family attending his father's memorial service he'd been the one that the cobra had actually felt comfortable speaking to. After long enough, it'd actually been decided that rather then spending his nights in a cheap hotel and wasting his money - Cheiu would simply come and stay with his uncle. This had all taken place after Hyo Dingh had been put under the ground, buried.. Cheiu's mother had been crying so hard, she'd almost choked on her own tears. Hyo's mother, had fainted. A couple of people had stood and said a few words about the man.. talking about him, of course, all as if he was some great hero or saint who'd done nothing but good in his life. Frankly, Cheiu had thought all of it was bullshit. He himself hadn't been asked to say anything (Hyo's own son, not saying a word at his funeral - shouldn't that say enough about the family? Not all those lies people were spitting), but if he had he didn't know what he would have said. 'My father and I haven't been on speaking terms for months. We were never close, he was never much of a father, and I'm more mad that he drugged himself up as a way to go then at the fact that he's actually dead. Thanks for listening'? That would've gone down so well. He'd been sitting alone in his uncle's home - the man had gone out somewhere, Cheiu didn't know where - when he heard a knock at the door. It took him longer then it probably should have (enough for any normal person, to assume nobody was home and merely walk away) to reach the door, but the moment he swung it open he wished he hadn't. "Mai... Haruhisa." Promptly, the door was swung shut once again, and Cheiu turned sharply and began to walk away. Forgetting to lock it. |

As it so happened, tracking Cheiu down by way of the phone book had been a lot easier than she had had anticipated when she first picked up the phone beside the bed. It hadn't been the first or even the second number but it hadn't been the six hundreth either. Of course, it hadn't directly lead to her Cheiu, but by way of a bread trail of relatives leading her into the right direction, she had finally gotten an address and another phone number. She had decided to skip the call, the last thing she wanted to do was give anyone warning that the shit storm was planning on making a house call. It made their chances for escape drastically lower. "Mai... Haruhisa." The door shut in her face. Was he trying to piss her off on purpose? Purpose or not, it was working. It was one thing to repeatedly hang up on someone when you were far far away, but it was clearly another when they were right at your doorstep. Sure, Mai was a great many things, but even she wouldn't have been rude to the people that had just traveled a very long way, just to make sure she was okay. She shoved the box of sweets she had planned on using as a peace offering in Haru's direction. What had only just begun to simmer, had suddenly boiled over. She hadn't asked, that he take them, if he didn't she would let them fall to ground. Her now free hand was coiling around the door's handle, getting a firm grip. It hadn't occured to her that the door could possibly be left unlocked, and that she could have just opened it. She had simply pulled the entire door out of it's frame, an odd sight for anyone to witness, given the Asian woman's deceptive appearance. Her mother always said she was a bitch, and that she was going to regret her bad behavior one day. It was too late now, what had been done could not be undone. Instead the door was dropped, where it fell backward, stopping once it hit the side of the house to lean. She'd pay for it. Stepping over the threshold, she let her grip on Haru's hand finally go. It seemed she had been holding it since they left Paris. "Cheiu!" |
