"Keiji, kill it." Skin settled against rough bark, his hand sliding around the trunk of the cherry tree as if it were someone's face. Like his brother, he could feel something nestled within the heart of the tree, something warm, alive, and almost aware. Unlike Kaede though he felt no need to talk with it, much less talk to it. There was a flicker of a smile as he wondered what people would think if they were ever able to glimpse his brother in a fully blooming garden. The other fae always had much more of an appreciation for those soft living things, while he on the other hand... Fingers tensed against the bark, digging in before his hand pulled away, tearing that warm essence with it. The wood protested, even as it withered and shriveled, an eerie wooden groan sweeping through the peaceful calm. Black swept across the once bright colors, snaking tendrils across the petals like hungry beasts until everything was consumed. With one last protest the once thriving tree toppled, branches snapping like bones beneath its own weight. By the end of the hour, there would be nothing left. Pulled into existence from nothing, it would return to nothing. The same hand that had blithely ripped the life from the tree sought out that of his brother's, fingers curling around Kaede's with a soft reverence. He knew there were other ways his other half could have brought him through the mists. A thumb stroked across the back of the hand he knew as well as his own, savoring the intimate gesture for what it was. As soon as the mists lifted, he reluctantly pulled his hand away before Kaede felt compelled to tell him to do so. Arms shot over his head, pulling his back into a tight line as he stretched. "Osh, I'm starving. So I'll get food going." He moved across the stepping stones with the blithe playfulness seemingly possessed only by children, hands spread at his sides as if to help keep his balance. "How 'bout you two just chill somewhere? It'll only take me a second to start everything." Stormy eyes lightened with a smile, the expression flowing over him in a soft wave that pulled the glamor away with it, leaving him a shining thing. Humming again, he slipped into the home and busied himself in the kitchen. Once things were rolling along with the food, he crouched down to silently lift the flap of a box sitting in one corner of the kitchen. Immediately he was blasted with insistent little peeps. "I know, I know, you too. I didn't forget." Moments later he found the other two, a small mess of fur nestled against his chest and tiny little paws grasping the little bottle he held in the other hand. Leaning against a wall, he offered a brilliant smile. "Half an hour. And I just need to feed her bef...him?" Blinking, he glanced down at the orange puff with a small frown. "I can't remember. Figure it out later. Anyway, once I get this pig taken care of I can nab the koto and..hell. I need dry clothes." |

The Sorrow Eater ~ Vampire Council Member

Only minutes passed before they reached the twins place of residence. It was a quiet place with a faint Japanese feel to it, hidden away from most of Paris. Nostalgia once again rose up in Masaru. He had not visited Japan in many years now, and would perhaps not do so again for at least half a century. The thought was one that brought out a soft sigh from his lips, one that was very human. He longed for the soft rivers and flowers of Japan. Kaede and Keiji would make Paris more bearable for him, that much was certain. It was only when the mists had completely lifted that Masaru lessened his hold on Kaede, fingers lightly trailing against the Fae's back before resting at Masaru's side once more. Amused, he watched Keiji skip across the stones towards the house. He truly did seem to have a childish quality to him now, though Masaru was confident that in time, that quality would disappear. For now however, he was simply content to be in their company once again. As Keiji let down his glamour, Masaru let down his guard – not so much in terms of power, but physically. Were he to let down his guard metaphysically, the whole place would be entrenched with a sorrow he did not want for their reunion. Masaru felt he had shaken them all enough for that night. The last thing he wanted in all the world, was to draw them all away. For the first time in a long time, his posture was relaxed, off-guard. His eyes not searching for enemies but instead admiring the beauty of all that was around them. A small nod was the only recognition that Masaru had even heard Keiji's words, his eyes settled on the flowers that had settled near the pond. Gently, he placed his hand on one of the smaller blossoms, the sweet scent of it washing over his senses as he bent down to smell it. “Your gardens have always been intoxicatingly beautiful.” Masaru started, drawing himself away from the flowers to look at Kaede once more. “You both fit in well here. My heart is glad for you.” He only wished that he had a sanctuary of his own. Somewhere that truly felt like home. Masaru knew such thoughts were foolish, but it did not hurt to hope that one day, such things would be returned to him. It was not long before Keiji returned to them both, some sort of creature nestled in his arms. Keiji's words revealed that he had already prepared the cooking, and Masaru felt a little disappointed – he truly had desired to see Keiji cook, however that could wait for another time, perhaps when Yukie was around. That would truly be a delight that he could properly savour. “It would make my night to hear the Koto played with the elegance I could never obtain.” Masaru said, a smile on his face. “I have never forgotton that pure sound I heard when you played it, Keiji.” Walking towards the house, Masaru laughed. “If you require dry clothes, perhaps you should simply change into the traditional garments for such an occasion, assuming you have not thrown them away in favour of modern fashions.” |

It was said there was no place like home. To Kaede, there could never really be a home other than Japan. No matter how convincing the house and gardens were, this would never really be home to him. It was simply, a place they were staying for awhile, the facade only served to make the entire thing bearable. Of course, if they really wished, they could simply travel there and back again, but that defeated the purpose of them leaving Japan in the first place. They could not simply remain in the same place for more than was natural for a human. In a few years time, they could return once again. Despite it only being a mere shadow of the real thing, returning to this place, brought to him a sense of peace. Walls that seemed endless, were torn down. Here, the man that never really expressed himself to anyone, could become a different man. While he would never know the freedom of complete abandonment, he was at the very least more relaxed than when anywhere else. Even Keiji's movement across the stepping stones, bothered him less, when surrounded by the nostalgic trappings of home. His gaze lingered on the brother, that had become more than a reflection or a lover but his lifeline until he had dissapeared inside their home. The house slowly became alive before their eyes as light's were turned on. Your gardens have always been intoxicatingly beautiful. You both fit in well here. My heart is glad for you." When he turned his attention away from the house, there was an easy smile ready for Masaru, who had drifted to the pond. Silent steps carried him over to water's edge, where he could stand beside his other brother. He choked back that desire to reach out and touch the other man. Now so close, kneeling beside him just as Keiji had been at the park, he wanted nothing more than to know what it felt like to run his fingers through his hair. Instead, his hands moved to rest in his pockets, his eyes drifted to the pond's surface. "I am touched that you remember the others." He would finally offer, with a soft sigh. They would never really fit in anywhere, they could only adapt to the world around them. As Fae, they would forever exist outside. "I will make you one of your very own. That way, you are never far from home. Of course, you may return her as often as you wish." "Half an hour. And I just need to feed her bef...him? I can't remember. Figure it out later. Anyway, once I get this pig taken care of I can nab the koto and..hell. I need dry clothes." Though he shared a deep connection with all living creatures, there had been only so much room in his heart for the hundreth stray that had been rescued by Keiji. He was if nothing else indifferent to it all. While he had no particular hatred for all the animals that found shelter under his roof, he only wished they would find shelter elsewhere. However, it brought a spark of joy to a most beloved brother, and so Kaede often looked the other way. “If you require dry clothes, perhaps you should simply change into the traditional garments for such an occasion, assuming you have not thrown them away in favour of modern fashions.” When Masaru stood once more, Kaede made a sweeping gesture with his arm in the direction of the house. Let him walk inside first, as was only polite. It had been nearly a week since the Koto had been played in all seriousness. "I assure you Masaru, that would never happen." He said, moving up the few steps to the front door, winter eyes moving from Masaru to Keiji. "Call for me if you need assistance." Without even consulting Keiji, the suggestion given by Masaru was now set in stone. |
