Sage was gone. Totally gone. No trace, no note...no rumours about his whereabouts whatsoever. He was just GONE! Which had never been okay with her. Usually he gave her some sort of warning in advance, some hint. A phone message. A phone call. A god damnned letter would've been okay. But no, he had left nothing. And he had just left her in the Ossuary. By herself. There was nothing that he even owned remained in the Ossuary...or in Paris for that matter. His businesses were gone, his other places of residence had disappeared. For all apparent purposes, he had simply never existed. However Catherine knew that it wasn't true...it couldn't possibly be so. But with every day that she had stayed there, the feeling of dread only increased until the point where she had begun frantically hunting everywhere for a simple sign of him. One week later, she had gone back to the Ossuary to discover all her belongings outside – half of which were missing. Frantically, she had gathered what she could before realizing that she had absolutely no where to stay that she could think of. When was the last time she had seen someone outside of the Ossuary? She had been so upset at the time that she couldn't even remember. She had no money, no where to stay and quite frankly couldn't be more upset. For a while, she had managed to get by staying in abandoned houses at night, but it had taken a toll on her physically. Her daytimes were consumed with searching for any sign of Sage at all by foot...one or twice she had been forced to stay in homeless shelters and parks. It was nearly three months later that she was still looking for the man that she was so desperately loved. A complete, utter wreck practically starving herself to death, Catherine stumbled along the darker isles of Paris, practically looking for death – it was that hollow look in her eyes that probably kept most away from her. It was nearly 3am and Catherine was walking around without even looking at her destination. She simply didn't care anymore, she just wanted to find Sage...or die. Either one of those options would be perfectly fine with her. Eyes tearing up once more, she walked into someone, causing her to drop all her belongings onto the floor, which she dropped down on herself immediately after to pick up those belongings. With a sob, she started collecting those belongings, not even bothering to apologize. Finally, she looked up and saw a familiar face – Gerard, as it were. This only caused her to cry more, before leaving her belongings where they lay and giving the vampire a hug – though she didn't know him any form of comfort was enough at that moment. “I can't find Sage!...” She cried, fingers clutching at the garments he wore so that he too, could simply not up and leave her. |

In nature, the weakest of the herd do not survive. They are picked off by larger, faster predators before they even see it coming. In the world of the vampires it was no different. They were self regulating those that were foolish or witless were removed with little to no effort Sage was such. While Gerard was not the conductor of this one’s removal he did hasten the movement from one score to the next until he was no more. Forever the shadow he was used to such maneuverings and it was obvious that Sage was not and he had to pay the price of failure in the game of politics. It was a pity truthfully; Gerard had hoped that he would have put up more of a fight. In the end the result is the same but the accelerated timeline had caused a rather large gap in his plans. It seemed to be the way of Paris, everything happened quicker then anticipated. Perhaps Gerard was overestimating the people he was viewing as opponents, the self proclaimed independent lioness fell to him within the span of a single night, and now the council was all ready falling apart and importing new members. Granted he had taken one of the positions but it had become more out of boredom then truly any lust for power. Power was something that Gerard could easily had taken but perhaps the newer new council would prove at least some amusement while they were still around. It seemed that it was non too stable and that alone showed them to be the laughing stock of the undead world. Still there was one important loose end that had yet to be resolved. He had been watching the frantic exploration of the little lioness and he was waiting for the right opportunity to make his move. If she did not search for herself, in whatever warped version of love that Sage had applied to her that caused the center of her world to shift to only include the missing vampire, then she would not accept that he was gone. Months went by before he thought she was ready he could see the way her mind overtook her body’s needs for life and even in the absence of her Master he still controlled her life. It was one of the few things that Sage had ever impressed Gerard with but it was not enough to save him. With each passing week the fire within her slowly dimmed, her eyes started to sink in and most would think her a revenant of a vampire with the way she moved and acted, it was then that he decided to step in. Yes he could have called her, forced her to come to his domain but that would only work so far. The mind was a fragile thing and if you could make a person or an animal choose the path you wanted it was that much stronger of a bond. She had lost so much weight when she ran into him that he could barely feel the impact that her body caused. Her things dropped to the ground and he could all ready see the onset of tears before they even formed by watching her body and if he could have felt perhaps there would have been remorse there or even sympathy, but emotions do not trouble the dead. Her arms wrapped around him and he reached out to do the same, offering her comfort at the very least. Kindness was something that she probably had not experienced in a very long time, one arm wrapped around her while the other ran through her hair almost petting the little lioness reassuring her without words. He shushed her softly as he held her there letting the emotions that had been bottled up so long within her out. He was even going to be lenient about someone messing up his white coat. Gerard was in a giving mood. |

Tears fell from Catherine's cheeks until they were exhausted, and her throat was hoarse. The entire time, she had sobbed into Gerard's chest, and he had simply held her there. Finally, unwillingly, she let the vampire go, taking a step back, before kneeling to the ground and picking up her belongings, the occasional sniffle still escaping her. Whilst she appreciated the gesture and the comfort that Gerard had provided, she couldn't burden him with her troubles. “Merci...I should be going...” Holding the items tightly once more, she turned around and was able to walk a whole three steps before the tears started flowing again. She brought a hand up to wipe at her eyes and dropped one of the bags holding clothes, which once again brought on more tears. She turned around, a slightly hysterical mix between laughter and sadness erupting from her mouth sharply. “You must think I'm an awful mess...I'm sorry...I don't mean to burden you with my...our...Sag...” She whispered, eyes staring at the ground. |

It came in waves, the crying and the sobbing even with the small amount of comfort and kindness that he offered her it was just a small drop of rain in a thirsty desert. He simply held her there as long as she wanted to be and when she pulled away he knew that it was because of a sense of remaining pride. It spoke that perhaps she was not beyond saving that there was still a smoldering ember that can be rekindled into a flame one more, it would take time but what else does a vampire have? Even though for the moment her tears had been dried there were more waiting to take their place too many for it to be worked out in such a small time frame. He held up his hand when she spoke of having to go, “Non, you are where you need to be Ma petite lione,” with another slight gesture of his hand the driver that had brought him to here was all ready moving with practice almost mechanical strides as she picked up the bag and held it so that Catherine would not need to bend down again. “You put words within my mouth Catherine and there is nothing to be sorry for. If I thought of you as a burden would I be here now?” He took a step forward and placed a finger under her chin so that her eyes could come up to meet his, again all she would find would be his impossibly blue eyes and not a single drop of power. “Come. Let us get you something to eat and I will provide a bath for you, you can tell me what has happened.” While it could have been thought of as a request all ready he had made sure that her belongings were taken and that she did not have much of a choice. “Though I do have a single condition, that you let me pick your attire and the salts that will be added to your bath.” It was then he offered her a smile and his arm should she wish to take it. |

“No...” Catherine said with a small smile, the comforting touch of someone else making her temporarily forget her trauma. Looking up into his eternally blue eyes, she most definitely believed his words, though whether this was because of her own needs or because Gerard was actually being genuine was a completely different story. It was not much of a choice to make, though she took a terribly long time in deciding. Perhaps her mentality was truly that far gone that she couldn't make a right decision to save herself. In the end, she was not exactly sure what made her agree to go with him. Their last meeting had entirely creeped her out, though this was all forgotton now. He was the only person that she knew outside of Sage...and his kindness was overwhelming to her at this point. The idea of food, much less a bath, was appealing but with Sage gone she still felt insanely sick. Maybe Gerard would help her find him? She wasn't sure...she didn't even know if she cared. She was tired, hungry and emotionally exhausted, and she most certainly needed the comfort. Finally, she nodded, before grabbing his arm tightly to support herself as well as appease him. “T...thank you.” She said softly, her head resting on his arm already. Her eyes threatened to close as soon as they got into the car, and she found herself falling asleep on Gerard's arm seconds later. When was the last time she had gotten proper sleep? She couldn't even remember. Between sleeping in hostels/parks, and having horrible nightmares, Catherine had barely any sleep whatsoever. “Sorry...” She mumbled, her eyes closed. “Will we see Ange when we get there?” |

The more that the vampire interacted with Catherine the more that she showed him that she was not a completely lost cause. While there were concerns that she could have devolved to such at this point the odds of such loss so quickly were slim but still there. It perhaps took her longer then he would have liked to agree to coming with him but he could almost see the internal weighing of options within her. To Catherine, Gerard was almost entirely an unknown entity except by his closeness to Angelica and she did not know just yet how he operated. Gerard found lying distasteful but he could warp the truth in such a way that he might as well be lying, even that sometimes met with distaste though as often times it took far too much energy and it was better left ignored and that effort could be applied in another course of action Gerard was always efficient. The way she grabbed his arm spoke volumes of her emotional state. It was like she did not want to let him go after finding him. It was something that could be exploited at a later time for right now such plans had a timetable of some time. It did not take long for her head to find his shoulder and for her body to finally relax enough to allow sleep, yet another good sign. She spoke about Angelica and while he was planning on bringing those two together to help the healing process along it was not time for that yet, his records had shown that she was tagged and that first had to be addressed. It would serve no purpose to bring her to his main home and perhaps lead anyone with the frequency of the RFID straight to his personal estate. He let his hands drift over her hair, continuing the gentle reassuring touches that he had started, “Soon my dear Catherine, soon. My word on such.” When they arrived at one of his other estates the door opened and instead of making Cath walk he picked her up into his arms liked she weighed nothing and brought her into the house. They went straight to the bathroom were all ready there was water running, knowing her sensibilities about her nakedness and him he had instructed one of his female servants to prepare a screened of changing room where she would assist the lioness. Meanwhile, his back being turned, another servant pulled the now soiled white coat off of her Master folding it and sending it off to the cleaners. On the hook behind the bathroom door was a new coat all ready waiting for Gerard to slip on but not yet as part of the negotiation Gerard picked a few of the salts and mixed them into the water. Lavender to help her relax, a touch of eucalyptus to add energy and vigor, and a small dash of Dragon’s Blood to add a hint of spice, also to compliment the scents perfectly he added some other salts to help nurse the ailing lioness back to full health. “Dinner shall be here once you relax into the bath, would you like me to stay in here with you or would you like some time?” he did not say alone for even if she did not want him there he would leave a servant behind to watch that she did not do anything too drastic or fall asleep in the tub and go underwater. The next step of business would require the removal and reimplanting of the chip and all ready one was called for such. |

Though Catherine knew it was not Sage, the feeling of comfort brought on by simple physical contact was extremely soothing to her. She simply nodded when he gave his word that she would see Ange – in truth Catherine looked forward to seeing the older lioness. The only thing preventing her from doing so was now gone, leaving her unwillingly free to do as she pleased for a time. As they arrived at Gerard's estate, he picked her up easily. Catherine had no protests against this – his very presence was such a comfort that she simply sagged against him, letting out a small, soft purr as they entered through the front doors. It was not long before they had reached the bathroom, Gerard placing her onto the floor. A bath...Catherine had nearly forgotton that she had agreed to one, in her exhausted state. It was very sleepily that she went behind the screens of the changing room, greatful for the privacy even in her muddled state. The servant helped her to undress – the clothes she wore were stuck to her, and she knew her usually high standards of cleanliness had fallen dramatically through the past few months. There had been more important things to do...and she hadn't been in the right frame of mind to look after herself. However now, someone else was there to help her do so. The bath water smelt heavenly, the bath was very inviting. It was with some help from the female servant that she managed to lower herself in the bath. The warm water was such a comfort that she found herself nodding off again, though the servant held her above water, shaking her a little to ensure that she did not. An almost happy sigh escaped from her lips, though that relaxed state stopped as soon as Gerard hinted that he might leave. “N...nn...no!” She cried, sitting up, her eyes wide. “Don't leave me alone....please...” The last thing she wanted was to be left by herself. She did not want anyone else to disappear on her, not ever. The fear that someone might simply walk out the door and not come back was one that clutched her heart tightly and squeezed until she felt like she simply wanted to die herself. At that very moment, she did not care that she was undressed in the same room as a vampire she knew no better than a stranger on the street. He couldn't leave her there. She didn't get out of the bath, though she very much wanted to grab his arm to prevent him from leaving the room. The woman servant had already started aiding Cath in cleaning herself, Cath being too exhausted to give a damn about soap, let alone shampoo or conditioner. “You can go if you need to.” Catherine finally said, her voice near silent once more. “I'll be okay. I'm sorry I don't mean to...Its just that Sage...” She dug her nails into the palm of her hand to stop herself from bursting into tears as she spoke. “I woke up one night and he was just gone...no trace of him...I've been looking for him since but....” Cath's voice trailed off, her eyes distant. |

She was no more than a ragdoll in his arms as he walked with her. The way she just hung there like a stray kitten that had been pulled from the streets by a small child, purring softly not even caring that it could be brought to is own demise. Not that Gerard was going to do such, not yet at least this one still represented a piece of the plan that had been forming ever since he arrived back in Paris. There were a few things that would need to be handled the first one was the bath and to try and relax her enough so that she did not go off the deep end. The second, which would take far longer to accomplish, was to either break or transfer her need of a dominant to himself and/or Angelica or to break it completely; the vampire was not to sure which direction he would go yet or which would benefit him the most. The last thing would be to remove the implant that his records and RFID scanners had picked up on her it would be easy to do but it would require her trust since it would involve sharp objects. The servant had worked quickly in removing the soiled garments and lowering the lioness into the bath water. It would appear that Rose had a natural knack with handling those in such a state of shock and he made a mental note to assign her to the care of his new guest. If his hunch was right making things appear, at least on the outside, routine would help the nearly broken mine of Catherine. The ruined clothes did not get immediately thrown out all ready they were being used downstairs to do final alterations on a few outfits that he had procured after their first meeting, Gerard was not anything if not well planned and in control. “Very well Catherine, I shall stay” his voice was calm almost soothing as he pulled up a chair and brought it next to the bath tub. In his selection of salts he had made sure there would be enough bubbles to continue to provide the lioness with the idea of modesty until she was ready to willingly reveal herself to him. It was always so much more of an impact when the vampire made his guests think it was their choice to do such things. “Non, shhhh” he shushed her softly as she tried to speak the offending name. “I do not need to go anywhere tonight; you are my primary concern at this moment, my dear.” Rose helped him remove the cufflinks and roll up his sleeves so that they did not get wait. He would not touch her not yet but instead rested his hand on the lip of the bathtub, near her skin but letting her make that choice. It was a quiet offer one that would bring her further into his clutches. Trust would have to be built slowly or at least the illusion of the choice of trust. “I know dear one, there are few things that go on in this city that I do not know about, but we do not need to talk about that just yet. Right now, I want you to relax and dinner shall be here momentarily” Just as he spoke like it was clockwork there was a knock on the door. “Enter.” Yet another female servant walked in with a tray that was custom built for the bathtub to make it easy to eat and settled in the appropriate grooves. There was a steak there, all ready cut up in small bites so that the animal instinct of the starved lycan did not try to come out. With one hand on the bathtubs edge the vampires other hand picked up the fork and skewered a piece. He held it out enough that she could either take the fork from his hand or lean forward and take the meet from the fork, the choice was hers and it would speak much about her state of mind. |

Relief washed over Catherine in a similar way to the water that the maid poured over her hair. Gerard would not leave her. She sunk back into the bathtub slightly, though she did not close her eyes. She wanted to make sure that he wouldn't leave her. As his hand graced the edge of the bathtub, Catherine nuzzled her cheek against it, wanting the physical comfort that it would bring. He would not leave her. His words only calmed her mental state more, even bringing a small smile to her face. If only it were Sage speaking them...she would have been completely happy. Her behavior was very much like that of a stray cat, not knowing or caring what intentions might befall it as long as a moment of kindness was shown before the slaughter. If Gerard so chose, her life would be sacrificed for no more than a small cry of pain and perhaps some blood stained water. A fitting ending to a pathetic existence. In truth, it would be a relief to her somewhat to feel pain as well – she had grown so accustomed to it during her time with Sage that it felt strange not to have purple, red and brown patches all over her body. There was a dark desire buried somewhere that wanted to feel that pain again, to be sure that someone cared that much about her... The mention of dinner roused her attention back to the current situation, her eyes moving to the door hungrily as the smell of meat invaded her senses and blocked out all other thought. As soon as the plate was set down, she leant forward to begin shoving the meat down her throat. This was only stopped by the gleam of silver from the corner of her eye, and the realization that Gerard was going to feed her...one small piece at a time. Though she wanted to simply just eat everything there as fast as possible, she leant forward timidly and bit the meat off the fork, the tastes lingering in her mouth as she swallowed the meat. She felt a little better after the first mouthful, however the desire to simply eat all the food then and there was growing with every second. A famished look entered her eye as she waited an eternity for the next. It seemed like a very short time that the steak was finished, and she felt a lot better for eating it. At least the desire to eat had returned. It was not long after this that the maid was finished with cleaning her, and was holding out a towel. Averting her eyes from Gerards, she stepped out of the bathtub, leaning into the towel and wrapping it around her fragile frame before standing behind the screen. Completely new clothes, a dress to be precise. It was relatively easy to put on, and like the previous garment he had given her, it fit her frame perfectly. The colours of it matched the clothing that Gerard wore, though this was lost on Catherine who was simply greatful to be wearing clean clothes. “I don't know how to thank you...” She murmured, coming out from behind the screen and looking very solidly at the floor. “But thank you, for what it's worth...” Catherine stood there awkwardly. “I should...go look for Sage...he'll be angry with me if he thinks I've left him...” |

It was easy to spot just what his revelation that he was not actually leaving caused within the body of the lovely little lioness. Relief washed over her changing the way she held her body just enough that those that were trained in the art could easily see it like it was a scream from the roof tops. She did though take the bait of his hand being there as he felt her face and cheek nuzzle against his hand. Gerard did not move that hand at all, letting her rub against it and even let his fingers dance across her cheeks. It was gentle but those fingers held his strength that was far beyond what their form spoke of. Gerard knew what this petite woman would eventually want if he was to take her into his house, she enjoyed pain and that one simple thought brought the darker sides of the vampire, the ones carefully controlled closer to the surface. When the dinner arrived he could see the hunger not only of the woman but of the beast that rested within it. It would have normally been unwise to stand between a hungry lycanthrope and readily offered food but the fact that she not only leaned forward to take the food off the fork but did not just devour it spoke of the volumes that she had been beaten and controlled under Sage. While his reports of their activities had often been graphic they were an understatement of what this poor woman had been forced to endure, it had changed her and left its heavy mark on the very spirit. With dinner being finished in silence he turned away when she stood up and had the maid dress her properly. Gerard gave the little lioness a smile when she emerged from the privacy screen in one of the dresses that he had picked out for her. “Absolutely Stunning.” it was a minor compliment but even in her famished state there was a loveliness to her. He started to walk towards her as she spoke of thanking him, the stories about him would say that he only way that he could be thanked was through sex and other such but that was not the case. “It is worth much Catherine, you are welcome but it is the very least I can do.” She lowered her eyes and he took the opportunity to place his finger on her chin raising her face just enough so that she could look up at him if she fought that little movement the edges of his fingernails would be pressing into the sensitive flesh just under her chin. “It is not you who left him Catherine, otherwise why would you have almost spent your all in looking for him? I too have been applying my influence and resources to his location,” yes it was completely true that he had, it was for entirely different reason. Should Gerard had found him he would have quietly removed the offending, crass vampire from this world as a pitiful excuse for his kind. “While you could leave and continue your search I do not wish to constantly have to nurse you back to health, so I insist that you stay with me and I give you my word that should I hear about him you will be the second to know after me.” He let his fingers graze over her jawbone and neck as he spoke, the edges of his nails being a hint of what he can offer, something he would knew would give further relaxation. |

The compliment brought a small smile to her face, though her thoughts were still on finding Sage. Gerard's fingers on her chin caused her to look up into his very blue eyes, the feel of his fingernails not nearly painful enough to bring comfort to her. “I'm scared something happened to him...I can help him where others cannot.” By this she not only meant feeding the bloodlust all vampires felt, but also his insatiable appetite for violence. It was something she was well trained for, and though it often took her a long time to recover, it was something she had become accustomed to. Thankfully, she healed well. She had never retained a scar from any of their sessions, which was impressive considering the large range of tools and desires that Sage had. There were things she had experienced that she had not enjoyed, but would willingly let someone else do to her. Catherine had no desire to ever see her own flesh cut to the bone again, let alone her own innards spilt on the floor before her. Those were times she had been near the blissful brink of death, only to be brought back by Sage. He cared. Though the sex had been there, it meant very little to Catherine compared to that of a blade. Though his chambers were often filled with her screams and cries of pain, she had never strayed from his side. That pain brought on by someone else meant more to her then sex ever would. It was a change that Sage had caused in her, one that would never change. “How much is your word worth, Gerard?” Catherine questioned, his nails on her flesh causing little physical reaction. Mentally however, she waited for the strike that would follow, the cuts that would draw blood from her body. “If Sage were to find out I was staying here, he would view it as a betrayal...” Her voice drew off as her eyes looked away from his. Sage would most certainly discard of her, a punishment far worse then death in her eyes. |

The lioness had every right to think that something ill had befallen her would be wayward master. He had rather quickly gained many enemies and those who would have been unwilling to help him should he had found dire straits, Gerard being one of such people. There was a saying that made the vampire give an inner smile about biting off more than one could chew, it fit Sage quite nicely. “It very well could have Catherine, and perhaps you could you do have a natural ability at surviving it would make it so that he would not leave a trail of dead bodies.” Beyond that, Gerard imagined that the lioness served no other purpose to the vampire. She was a means to an ends something to enjoy and discard. Over the time Gerard had arrived in Paris and up until now where he has assumed a so far silent seat on the council he had learned much about Sage, he understood him in a way. They were not so different underneath it all, Gerard too had a desire for torture and blood that would be unmatched even by the lioness’s would be master but it was controlled with diamond like will power. It had its uses and its moments and the times that he decided to indulge in such were generally spectacular to behold but everything had its place. When she questioned his word so openly all the warmth that he had put within his movements and touch were gone. The only thing left was the cold ice blue stare as he watched her. “More then the entire population of Paris, Ms. Beavillier. You would be best to learn that well and to not doubt my word again.” He pulled his hand, his power everything away from her and let her feel just how alone she could be. “Then you have a choice to make, providing that you have not all ready been betrayed and replaced by him. I offer you succor and asylum and you return it with insults to my honor and my word. Tread carefully” |

The coldness that once again washed over her was a reminder that Sage was not there. That Gerard was indeed not her friend, but a vampire. She had been foolish, so very foolish. Of course he would offer his hospitality. Sage had been council...she was his pomme de sang. Of course, what she had already taken from Gerard would warrant some sort of payment back from Sage. Still, somewhere she had hoped that Gerard would be... Catherine didn't even know. She had hoped for something. Eyes went to the floor as he scolded her. She should have known better then to question him, but the answer he gave only proved to show her that he could be cold and cruel as well. Perhaps in a worse way then Sage. It reaffirmed her fears about him, and though she didn't really want to go, a feeling in her gut made her want to leave...to go back to search for Sage. “He would not betray me...or replace me. Something bad has happened to him...I have to find him...Thank you for your kindness, Lord Anlui” Catherine mumbled, eyes still focused on the carpet. She felt a lot better from the bath and the food she had taken, but she knew she should be searching for Sage. He needed her. Bowing low, submissively, she took two whole steps towards the doorway before stopping. She still wore the dress that he had given her, and she was not sure whether it would be further insult for her to take the dress with her or to take it off. Turning to face him once again, she apologized. “I am sorry...if you give me my other clothes again...I will be on my way Lord Anlui.” Had she not been so tired, so frantic for comfort and physical contact, she may have blushed. |

If the vampire had not been a master of his own face and actions he would have sighed at the way the lioness was acting. Perhaps it would be better if he just let her go and live out the last of her life thinking that she was something special to the vampire that she decided to call master, at the very least she would die happy in a gutter somewhere used like she had been the entirety of her life. It was easy to see it in her words, she honestly thought she was the exception in Sage’s life and disillusioned herself into completely believing it. Nothing he could say or show her would sway her from such a position not yet and she was increasingly becoming not worth the effort that was being required. “It is rare Catherine, to have such and complete faith in anyone let alone one’s former master. The kind of faith that you show him even in his complete absence is admirable and a site to behold,” if not completely worthless and unwarranted. “In your time of searching for him have you found a single trace, a single shred of evidence that he remains in the city? You will need to expand your search if you want to have any hope, false or otherwise warranted.” She would need resources and leverage that only Gerard and a select others in the city would provide, sense he was the only one that could call the lion within her, he would be the only one with any interesting in other then a play thing. “Your other clothes, and I use the term clothes loosely, have all ready been disposed of. You may leave if that is your wish or you may continue to stay here with me. I will not force such a choice on you but I will keep my word that you will be able to see Angelica if you decide to stay” If she continued to walk out he would not follow her but simply forget about her. Something many that had met the vampire would have killed for. |

There was no trick to Gerards words, no attempts at any sort of blackmail. Had she completely misinterpreted his intentions? Catherine shook her head when he asked if she had seen any shred of evidence of Sage. They both already knew the answer to that question. She would not be there if she had. Perhaps Gerard was truly just concerned for her welfare...he didn't seem to want to force her to stay nor did he seem overly fussed if she left. Catherine felt more the fool for being so critical when he had done nothing wrong to her. Folding her arms loosely over her chest, Catherine looked up at him when he mentioned being able to see Ange. It certainly would be a benefit to staying. And Gerard had given his word that if he heard word of Sage, he would tell her first... He was being so kind when she had shown him nothing but distaste. Eyes welled up with tears once more, she knelt on the floor before him before bowing deeply. “I forgot myself...please forgive me...” She whispered, voice about to crack once more. The past few months had not been easy for her, and her moods had become more than a little erratic. She truly did want to stay with both him and Ange, to have a place to call home once more. “I want to stay...I just...” Catherine didn't know how to explain that she didn't feel right, or in place anywhere since Sage's departure. “I'm sorry.” Eyes were still lowered, her frame still bowed to the floor. "I won't question you again, my lord." |

The immediate change in her posture and attitude were easily seen when she realized that he would not force her to stay or try to trick her into it. He had given her the option and at first she refused it but then it seemed that either logic decided to take over or the overwhelming feeling of being alone again caused her pause. Gerard was leaning to the latter thought as she was all ready seemingly unstable from the way that she was unceremoniously left out in the cold. Just as the vampire expected, the promise of being able to see Angelica was too good to pass up and while he was not exactly holding it over her head it was a bargaining chip that he could use, even if the other lioness would be instrumental in Catherine’s recuperation. “Oui, you did forget yourself but I am willing to forgive you Catherine. You do not know me well enough nor the rules of my house and while ignorance is no excuse, I forgive you.” When her voice started to crack he moved his hand slowly and gently to cup her face and the moment they touched his power and presence pushed back into the room so that no matter where she was she could practically feel his touch. “When she apologized again he only smiled softly and nodded shushing her gently, “It is okay ma petite lionne, it is good that you learned this lesson early now that you are staying with me. I am sure Angelica can teach you the rest of the way of how my house works but first there is something I must ask of you.” “Not only do I need you to trust me but there is a small technical procedure that must be observed before I can take you back to my current estate.” As he talked he walked around her and brought his fingers to touch behind her shoulder blade, where the most likely place of the chip was implanted in her. “In order to keep my word to those I have given my protection to it must be removed. It will only be a quick incision with local anaesthesia to take the bite of the blade away with you wish I have a fully educated and license doctor in my employ that has volunteered their services. It would take but a moment but I would need your permission to do so, I will be in the room the entire time so you do not need to worry.” |

“I will learn your rules quickly.” Catherine said, eyes closing as his hand graced her face. The warmth and comfort she had previously felt from them had returned. She did not want that feeling of security to go away anytime soon, and so she would do her best not to offend him again. She had been trained to do as such, to the point where at times she lost herself underneath the persona of who she was required to be. Not that she ever complained. As his fingers left her cheek, she sat up, though she never stood. She needed Gerard's permission before she could permit herself to do so. “You need not ask...simply tell me and your word will be done.” Catherine leaned into Gerard's touch on her shoulder blade, already knowing that he referred to the chip implanted underneath her flesh. It had not bothered her, though it had been a humiliating process when it had been put in. After being beaten and dragged off the streets, she had been tied down and the officials had forcibly inserted the chip underneath the flesh. It hadn't been long before she had found herself struggling to recover on the streets once again. “The anesthetic would be lost on me.” She did not need it, and she had developed somewhat of an immunity to smaller drugs, thanks to both her blood and to Sage. She could, if she so desired, block out the burning pains of her flesh being cut. A small smile crossed her face as Gerard mentioned permission. He did not need to ask her for her permission – she was not worth that much. “You do not need my permission...” She was still leaning into his hand, treasuring that small comfort. "I will do as you bid." |

She would learn quickly there was no doubt in the vampires mind of that fact. If she had survived this long with Sage, arguably one of the more unbalanced vampires that had ever ascended the ranks to council, then she could adapt to his rules just as easily. He could see the practiced mask taking over the lioness’s personality, the well rained look as one that was used to following orders and not required to think. This was something that would not do for Gerard, he did not desire the company of robots or dolls to be used and abused he enjoyed the subtle flavors of personality that graced all of his servants. “You are correct Catherine, I need not ask but that does not stop me from doing so. There will be times that there will be orders that must be followed for the safety of all involved but when it is just the two of us. It is a request of you one that you are free to turn down should you so desire. I am not saying there would never be consequences for such but there is always a choice.” He gave her a smile as the door opened and the doctor came in. Tilting her head up again so that she could look into his deep blue eyes. “Very well then, it will only require a small incision with a non silver blade so it should be healed once the object is removed. When it is removed it will be implanted in one of the servants here so that you will appear to be having a normal life.” He guided her up with his hand and into a chair still keeping his eyes on hers so that the doctor could work. “Now, all we need you to do is say yes.” |
