At first, she'd thought it had just been the mirror. Nothing but a crack in the glass, or even just a speck of dirt that'd accumilated enough over time to put a blemish on her usually flawless, pale reflection. She'd still been quite relaxed at this point, and had run her finger along where the so called 'blemish' was.. but there had been nothing there. Moving her head and body from side to side, in different areas of the mirror, she came to a rather shocking discovery. The blemish, or whatever it was... seemed to be following her every movement! Naturally she'd brought her fist through the center of the glass at this realisation, shattering her reflection into a thousand smaller pieces. As they fell to the ground, she'd pulled out what little glass had lodged itself within her fist before moving on to the other mirror in her suite; the one inside the master bedroom. Suffice to say, that was soon promptly shattered and occupying space on the ground, also. By this point, Vale had begun to grow somewhat agitated. Somebody had put some kind of enchantment over her quarters - so that every mirror she owned made her appear as if there was actually a wrinkle on her face. Just by her left eye, and it was only noticable when she squinted very slightly.. but it was still there. It was impossible - vampires didn't get wrinkles. Whoever had decided to put that particular spell over her obviously knew nothing about the facts.. Still, there was a very minor fear building in her as she rushed toward the nearest bathroom outside of her own quarters, for a reassurance that she didn't recieve. The wrinkle was still there when she looked into that mirror, and if anything, looked even more deeply defined then it had only moments ago. She'd already become quite irritated by now, and practically stormed out of that room, too. After just a few minutes, she'd checked almost every room inside the entire manor, and each time had found the same wrinkled reflection waiting for her. Even in smaller, less reflective surfaces she could see it - whilst wondering through the kitchen she'd even grabbbed several larger knives, and spoons to check.. by the time she even thought to go and see Masaru about the issue, there were several irritated servants, vampires and cooks that were wanting their belongings replaced. Not that they could really say anything to her about it; she was above them all, after all, being their master when Masaru himself was not around. Nevermind that he was just in his study, doing some irrelevant paperwork by the desk.. at the moment, none of that was important. What was important, was that she looked old. Almost breaking his door right off it's hinges by the sheer force that she pushed it open, Vale didn't hesitate even the slightest in her stride, making a V-line for Masaru's desk. She was practically radiating her fury, and just in those few minutes that she'd encountered this little dilemma, word had already spread among the servants to try and avoid her. Not caring in the slightest what he may have been working on, she slammed a hand down on top of the paperwork Masaru's attention was currently focused on, glaring at him as she did so. It wasn't his fault that somebody had decided to do such a thing to her, of course (...well, for all she knew it could be, but she was going to presume he was innocent for now), but given that he was supposed to be the one in charge around the Manor.. She expected him to do something about it. "Look at this," she practically barked the order at him, pointing stiffly with her free hand to the exact location of the supposed wrinkle. "Just look at it-- somebody is going to pay for this dearly. Just wait. Why the hell haven't you done anything about it yet?" Realising that he was ignoring that the Manor had obviously been the victim of some witch's spell, she suddenly switched her irritation over to the fact that he was still seated. "This," She motioned to all of the papers among the desk - including the now crinkled one that she'd slammed her hand upon, "Has nothing to do with the issue at hand! I can't believe you're just sitting there, doing nothing! LOOK AT THIS!" Yet again, she pointed to the 'wrinkle', quite ready to simple rip the skin right off of her face and be done with the problem. |

There was something about paperwork that Masaru found oddly taxing. It wasn't so much that they were accountant and billing papers, or tax returns, but rather, that the whole process was so tedious, especially when he owned over four hundred and fifty places of business globally. The whole task was a giant headache however he did not trust anyone else to touch his financial papers – at least if he did them he knew that they were all done 100% correctly. He was almost halfway through when he had heard the distant smashing of pots, however he had initially put it to the staff making a mess, or something of the sort. After all, they had only lived in the manor for a week or so and everyone was still adjusting. However when the noise did not stop, he became increasingly irritated. He did not mind noise occasionally, however for this task to be done quickly, he needed silence for at at least an hour. He had told all his staff this, however apparently they could not be quiet for even fifteen minutes. Still, he did not want to leave his paperwork to scold them...he could ignore the background noise if he truly desired. However, fate was not being kind to Masaru. It was not long afterwards that his rather thick study door practically fell off its hinges as a rather angry Vale entered into the room. Masaru would have happily gone on ignoring her as well, had she not slammed a hand down onto a page that was still wet with ink – therefore smudging the numbers and calculations that he had just completed. Masaru looked up in annoyance for a mere second before returning to his paperwork, his face unreadable the entire time. Unfortunately Vale didn't seem to get the message, and thus he was forced to look up a second time, before frowning. She had very damn well have a good reason for this all. However when she gestured to her eye and demanded that he look at something, Masaru was extremely unimpressed. Masaru looked, however he saw nothing wrong with her eyes, they were misty, deep and incredibly alluring as usual...It took a couple of seconds for him to realize he was staring, and he let out a laugh, before taking her hands off his notes, and standing up. “I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about...but such a thing is easily fixed.” The only flaw that he could see on her face was that one eyebrow hair strand was not sitting in place, and thus with a finger, he swept it back so it flowed with the rest of her eyebrow hairs. The action caused him great amusement, which certainly caused him to forget his annoyance for a minute. Was she truly so vain and so paranoid that she could not fix it herself for fear it would not stay? He didn't want to ask. “There, it is fixed...please leave, I'm very busy right now.” He stated, before sitting down and picking up a pen, with the intention to continue his paperwork. |

For the briefest of moments, she thought that Masaru would actually help. That he would stand up and get right down to the bottom of this.. this.. this witchery, and it would all be over. But then he went and claimed that he had no idea what she was talking about, and stopped that train of thought dead in it's tracks. The very minor spark of hope that had lit within her eyes was extinguished, now nohere to be seen. She blinked as he reached up and... touched her eyebrow? What was he doing? Could he not see the gaping imperfection in her features, the horrible disfiguration? One wrinkle alone was more then enough to hinder her beauty, and the very nerve of him, for ignoring it.. He said that it was fixed. Eyes sweeping over his desk, the silver letter opener that she'd spotted within arm's reach was soon in her hand, the vampiress examining what little of her reflection she could see on such a small surface. It only took a moment for her to locate what she'd been looking for - the imperfection, the wrinkle, that.. had grown even wider? What!? Dropping the letter opener, she grabbed the pen out of Masaru's hand and flung it somewhere over her shoulder. Now, he had pay attention to her. The thought didn't even occur that he had other pens on the desk; all she cared about at that very moment was looking perfect again. It wasn't even so much that she needed to look perfect (though that was definitely part of why her reaction had been such a large one). It was the fact that ever since she could remember, growing old had been one of her greatest fears.. and wrinkles, well. They were not a good sign. "What are you talking about?! You didn't fix anything! All you did was touch my eyebrow-- WHAT THE HELL, MASARU. HONESTLY, I am in the middle of a crisis and you're sitting here doing paperwork..." She continued to rant on for several moments, ignoring any input he may or may not have entirely. ".. and I thought this sort of thing was supposed to be impossible! VAMPIRES DO NOT WRINKLE. I'm not even that old. You're what, double my age, and look at you! Nothing! THIS IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR. Somebody is out to get me. Well, just wait, you'll see what I do with them..." |

Annoyance returned when Vale grabbed the letter opener off his desk, though he was more annoyed when she grabbed the pen out of his hand and flung it off somewhere. Masaru stood up, walking over to the now broken pen, picking it up and placing it in the bin, listening to Vale rant and rave about who knew what. “I fixed the stray eyebrow hair that was so blemishing your face.” He commented monotonously, before sitting back down with a sigh. Apparently she thought she was aging for god knew what reason. Perhaps she was drunk, however the ardeur wasn't leaking out everywhere so that simply could not be the case. “No, I will not ever age...I am far too wise to allow such a thing to happen. Have you been feeding regularly?” Masaru knew that vampires who did not feed often gave off the illusion of aging, though in actual fact, their flesh was truly dying was simply rotting off. Such a thing was not a concern for him – he was of the Mort D'Amour line after all. Her rant lasted far longer than it should have, and by the time she had finished, he felt like locking her in a coffin so he wouldn't have to the high pitched drawl that was gushing out of her mouth. He could feel the slightest inklings of fear emanating from her however, which meant that at the very least, she felt that something was wrong. “Let me look at you, at the very least.” He remarked, before walking towards her and taking her face in his hands, looking at her face in great detail. There did not seem to be anything wrong whatsoever, and he frowned, not thinking that Vale might misinterpret this action. There was nothing wrong with her to bring such a panic, and it didn't feel like anything was metaphysically wrong with her, so what was she so concerned about? “Here...let me show you...” He remarked softly, before opening the marks between them and allowing her to see through his eyes. To him, she was still beautiful, and probably always would be. She was divine, her beauty matched only by a love long passed now. He did not bother hiding these thoughts from her whilst they were so close together, the marks open. However, he felt her start to panic the longer she looked at herself, and he finally closed the marks, before stepping in and embracing her gently. “There is nothing wrong with you. You look as you always have. And I will always still be here by your side.” It was after he said this that he let her go abruptly, mainly so that she would not have the chance to make an advance, thus ending their little facade of a break up. The last thing Masaru needed was for her to start manipulating him again. |

"No, I will not ever age, I am FAR too wise to ever allow such a thing to happen, blah blah blah blah BLAH!" Didn't he understand? She didn't care about what he had to say - not unless it was telling her exactly how she could get rid of this wrinkle. Quite amazingly she'd actually caught his question, and managed to get in a half coherent reply. "Of course I've been feeding lately! What do you think I am? I don't starve myself, it's not as if I'm going to go losing weight if I don't drink blood... wait... oh my god... what if..." Her every muscle stood perfectly still for several seconds, before bursting back into life extremely suddenly. "WHAT IF I START TO GAIN WEIGHT?" She was feeling quite panicked when he came over and took her face into his hands - however, she did not fight him. He still looked normal. What if she was contageous? Would he start to wrinkle and grow old and gain weight, also? Squeezing shut her own eyes, she began to see through his, but... the woman's face he was holding between his hands was not her own. Vale wanted to scream. The emotions he was feeling; she barely noticed them. She was too focused on the image that she was seeing. It most certainly wasn't her - she supposed that the figure resembled her, in a couple of ways, but that was definitely not her. What it was, was some kind of old woman, wrinkles covering her face, hair that was little more then straw that had mostly fallen off of her head, eyes that looked so dead... She was frozen in position, even when he embraced her and closed the marks, Vale couldn't move. All she saw was that image of the old woman, and how alike they looked... and then something clicked in her mind. Snapping back into life, she reached out without warning and grabbed Masaru's wrist - pulling him toward herself in that same motion, to turn him around to face her, at the very least. In that same motion she stepped forward, before reaching up with her other hand and slapping him forcefully across the cheek. "You honestly think I look like that all the time? You're saying, that THAT is how you constantly see me!?" Her voice was breaking - she hadn't even noticed. Dropping his wrist like it was poisonous, she backed away from him several paces, shaking her head in disbelief. "I.. I am not that repulsive. I know I'm not. That you could see me like that..." She turned away from him, folding her arms across her chest. "Frankly, it disgusts me." From the brink of tears the snobbish facade arose; and yet again she changed her mood like the flick of switch. |

Apparently his words and his reasoning had no effect on her, that much was made clear when she physically slapped him. His cheek flushed red since he had eaten, though he made no move to try and lessen the sharp sting. Instead, rather, his eyes shot venom at Vale. If she truly chose to be so unreasonable without good cause, then she would suffer the consequences. He did not care for the tears at her eyes, or the fact that she was panicked. No, she did not get sympathy now that she had slapped him. “Yes Vale, that is how you have always looked, and probably will always look.” He stated spitefully, his eyes narrowed at her, even though she was not looking at him.. “If you think otherwise, or have ever thought otherwise, you are delusional. You are not repulsive at all, but quite frankly, I am not going to comfort you when you are acting like a three year old who was not given their easter chocolate.” He made no move to comfort her, though he could sense she was upset – it was delicious. Rather, he went back to his desk and picked up another pen. |

In many ways Masaru and Vale were much alike - they were both quite spiteful when they wanted to be, and both knew the other well enough that when the insults started rolling out, they really did aim to hurt. And it worked, usually. Like now. His comments only fueled her irritation - he was telling the truth, but he didn't need to be such an asshole about it. "Obviously then, we weren't seeing the same image." She couldn't believe that was how he saw her - perhaps this magic, if it was magic, was strong enough to affect his perceptions of her? If Vale actually sat down and thought about it, she probably would've been able to figure out exactly what was wrong with her. Perhaps not why it had been done.. but she was intelligent enough to realise when she was being toyed with. Were she in a position of somewhat higher power (the head of the council's second obviously not being enough) she probably would have forced herself to do just that; to be quiet, face her fears and find a solution.. but she didn't have to. She had Masaru to lean on, and even when he was being as hurtful as he was right now, he was still her master. He was somebody that she knew she could trust with the important issues. Like now. Her logical mind knew that vampires couldn't age, and that something had to be wrong. He had to help. If he didn't; come sunrise, she just might end up without a face at all. She at least needed to be calmed down some, for this conclusion to be avoided. "Masaru." Her tone was far more calm now, however strained it might've been. Keeping her eyes shut so as to not accidentally catch her reflection off of anything (she already knew that would send her into even more hysterics - so keeping her eyes closed worked best), she somehow managed to navigate her way back to his desk without looking completely ungraceful. She took a seat on the floor beside it, leaning her back straight on the hardwood. "I.. apologize. You're right. I'm acting immature; honestly though... something is seriously wrong, and I don't know what to do about it. Please, you need to help me somehow." |

“Evidently not.” Masaru replied, barely looking at Vale now that he was back to doing paperwork. He had more important things to do then to look after a girl with self-esteem issues. He could not sense anything wrong with her, could not metaphysically feel anything wrong with her, and thus he was fairly certain she was delusional, or had made herself sick...or worse still, had pissed off some powerful being and this was now her punishment. If she had been delusional or sick, he may just have helped her. However she had admitted to being neither of these, and thus only the third option was left. And Masaru wasn't even sure if he wanted to help her – if she had truly annoyed another being so much then it was not his problem to intervene, lest it was directly intended as an insult to him. However he had not heard any whispers of gloating, any rumours of malicious intent. And thereby, he was fairly certain that Vale had gotten herself into such a mess. And given that she had just slapped him, Masaru was not in a mood to lend help...right?... He ignored her initially, when she stated his name. She could say it all she wanted and he was not going to help her in the slightest. Even when he felt her lean against the chair, he ignored her, completing another tax invoice document. Her voice struck a pang into his heart, yet he knew that emotions were a game between the two of them now, and he felt that her words were not simply enough for him to forgive her previous actions. More than anything, he simply wanted to hold her close and let her know that everything would be okay, and that he would personally kill whoever had done such a thing to her – though that would happen regardless of whether he was angry at Vale or not. The barest hints of her hair brushed against his arm, and her words made him want to drop what he was doing and simply attempt to help her. The only thing preventing that was the sting of the slap still on his cheek, and the broken pen still in his bin. “I do not see or sense anything wrong with you.” He simply stated, his eyes focused on paperwork and nothing else. “As far as I am concerned, you have self esteem issues which led you to storm into my office, scream and yell, ruin my accounting sheets, break my pen, and slap me.” This was said coldly, as he finished another paper on his pile. “I strongly suggest that you leave. You disrupt my work and quite frankly, you have disgusted me today with your behavior. I expect better from you, Vale.” |

It didn't work? Even when she was trying so hard just to keep it all together? Fine. It was his choice. At this moment she wasn't too concentrated on her own wellbeing. She would've done quite near anything to get rid of that wrinkle, no matter what Masaru said. From her understanding he'd prefer if she kept the wrinkle; he viewed her as an old woman, either way... She was almost sent right back into hysterics, just at that thought. Leaning her head against the desk, she brought a hand to her chest, doing what she could to relax, and banish the thoughts of the old woman from her mind. It took quite a bit off effort, and even then the image continued to haunt her. Standing suddenly, she offered a-- could that have been sincere? - smile, at her master, before bowing to him slightly. "Gomenasai Masaru. I'll leave you to your work." Turning, she began toward the door, fighting the urge to take his silver letter opener along with her. |

The last thing that Masaru had expected from his Vale, was for her to so simply give up and decide to turn away with a smile. It had surprised him...he had expected far more of a fight from her. Which meant that she was trying to play him using a new tactic, or she was seriously upset. Masaru already knew the answer, his hunger for sadness rising up with Vale's unshed tears. Vale's sadness alone was great enough to keep his hunger sated for three nights...her hysteria would be another matter entirely... But Masaru was forced to swallow these thoughts, knowing that should he take that path that Vale would surely not survive it. He did not want her mind unintact...and he most certainly wanted her alive and with him, whether physical contact be a part of it or not. It was these thoughts, as well as the alluring aura of sorrow around Vale, that caused him to get up off his chair and grab her by the waist, though he did help her go to the study door – but only to close it. “No, Rosalie. I do not want you to leave in this state.” He did not state the reasons why, but he was already feeding off her emotions, essentially fucking with her head. “My work is not as important...I will find a way to make you see how beautiful you truly are once more. You are not acting yourself...and though I admit your submissiveness is a change, it is not one that I welcome with open arms. I far prefer you as the unattainable, selfish, manipulative whore that I have grown to love so well.” He drew her in closer, his body warming as he continued to metaphysically drain her, stopping only when he felt that any more would leave him with too much power and no where to be rid of it. Still, he did not wish her to leave. “You are the envy of both the vampire and the human worlds, your beauty is almost certainly unmatched... I do not understand your self obsession or concerns but if you feel as though you need my help I will give it, as I always have, Rosalie.” |

In the midst of her wondering just how long it might take to dig out the wrinkle with Masaru's silver letter opener - it'd make sure the thing didn't come back anytime soon, which made it all the more tempting to take it along with her - she hadn't even realised Masaru had stood and approached her, let alone that he planned on actually stopping her. His touch was quite comforting, and she found herself relaxing into the embrace.. it felt natural. Almost enough, to make her forget that she was growing older. She couldn't think clearly; even standing was beginning to feel like a confusing chore. She reached up, holding onto Masaru's upper arms for support. His words brought another smile to her lips, and she leaned her forehead onto his chest, almost her entire body weight now resting atop his own. "How sweet your words are.." Tilting her head (but still keeping it mostly rested by his chest), her hands climbed their way up his arms, eventually to curl around his neck. The moment of submisiveness fading, her smile turned to a sneer. "It's a shame you just love contradicting yourself. You really need to make up your mind, Masaru.. either love me and act upon it or don't. You can't just go around switching between the two, you know, it's really rather irritating." Standing back on her own two feet, she watched him curiously for several moments before glancing in the direction of the doorway. "Really. I'll be fine, you don't need to feel obligated to take care of me. I'll be fine." Just as soon as she got rid of that wrinkle. |

Vale's touch was intoxicating to Masaru, even without the use of the ardeur and he knew that the longer they remained like that, the harder it would be for him to simply just let her go... However Vale's words were a reminder to him, of what he had lost and the dangers he had put himself in when heeding to that particular desire. “Vale, I made up my mind long ago...we have spoken of this. Would you have it any other way?” He stated, arms by his side, once again distancing himself from her. “You already know how we would end up.” Masaru now leant against the wall, eyes watching Vale possessively – he did not want her to go...he knew she was emotionally delicate in the present moment of time. “I do not believe I have contradicted myself at all. Perhaps it is simply you who is misinterpreting. If there were ever a time that I could believe that I could trust you with my emotions, and not just in combat, physically or metaphysically...” He moved to go closer to Vale, reaching out a hand before stopping himself. It had never been, and never would be, a healthy relationship. Plus the pressing matter of her supposed aging was still at hand. He shook his head when she suggested that she was fine. “No Vale, I know you too well...should I leave you and your supposed flaws, half your face would be burnt off before the end of this night. I could not bare...” Masaru shook his head and sighed. What the hell was it that was making his tongue so loose this night? Surely he could control his own emotions better, especially when it came to the woman before him. “I will help you, Vale. I will get a servant to fix the paperwork...it is not as important.” as you. “Besides, yes, I am obliged to take care of you. In the end I am your master and what you do and how you look reflects on me. I would not want you to disgrace me.” Masaru had shut down his emotions once again for the better part. “Now please...let us try and figure out this mess...Who have you angered off recently, and can you remember any important details?” |

"Would you have it any other way?" She was taken aback by the question, and stared at him blankly as he yet again, moved away from her. What was it with him? It was as if every time he got too close to her, something clicked in his mind and he distanced himself yet again, remembering that they were (supposedly) no longer in a relationship. Vale folded her arms when he leaned against the wall. Maybe, just maybe, the fact that he was trying to distance himself so much actually bothered her. Just a little. "I suppose.." Or maybe not. She wanted to scoff at him claiming he hadn't contradicted himself; of course not. Kissing her and then pretending it never happened obviously didn't count, nor did literally showing her how he felt and then proceeding to act like he didn't care about her at all. It annoyed her to no ends.. he needed to make up his mind, about whether or not he was going to be her master or her lover. Because right now, she had no idea which of the two he played more often, let alone which she wanted. Her gaze drifted off to one side, and unintentionally, she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a glass cabinet across the room. Had... had it actually gotten worse? Yes; now there was not only one distinct wrinkle, but two. She really was aging. In less than a second she was burying her face into his chest again. Whether it was to simply make sure she didn't go looking at anything reflective again, be close to him or just in the hope that some of his beauty would rub off on her, she wasn't entirely sure. Maybe a little of each. Speaking in a completely normal, although slightly muffled tone, she didn't even care that he'd tried to distance himself again. She needed the comfort, and if he couldn't give it then she'd soon be curling up to the nearest pillow. With his letter opener hend tightly in hand, of course. "I don't think I've angered anyone recently! At least not enough to do this to me.. I don't know. I think the list of people who have no reason to do this to me would be shorter then otherwise.." Frowning, she looked up at him, and opened her mouth to speak.. but stopped. She could see her reflection in his eyes, but.. it was clear. No wrinkles. It might've just been her mind playing tricks on her (right; telling her that she looked normal), or just the fact that his eyes were much too small a reflective surface to notice such detail, but the fact still remained. In his eyes, she looked like herself. By the time she realised just how much she'd been staring, she was standing on the tips of her toes, face only milimeters from his own. It was the best way to get a look at herself after all. "They're gone..." Head snapping to one side suddenly (and just barely avoiding a collision of their noses), she only caught a glance at the glass cabinet befor realising that nothing had really changed. She was still wrinkling, getting older. It was just that one surface that made her look like herself. Eyes locked onto her master's yet again, she couldn't help but be reminded of the time when they were still regarded as a couple by the public. And, as she only just realised, she missed it. Opening their connection just that little bit (not that it could ever fully be closed), Vale allowed him to know exactly what she was thinking, too. But, despite her actions, her words seemed almost completely irrelevant. "I think your cabinet over there is in desperate need of wiping, Masaru. You really should get someone onto that." |

It was true that he found it difficult to make up his mind about her, especially when they were alone together and his actions would be of no influence to anyone else. Yes, they were no longer in a relationship but that had not, in any way, stopped his feelings towards her. He doubted those feelings ever would, though he wasn't sure if it was because he actually loved her, or because of the ardeur. Either way, it did not matter. She needed him right then and there, for comfort mostly. She still seemed upset about the entire matter, and as she turned her head to look at another reflection of herself, her face spoke volumes to him. She feared aging. This was a fact that Masaru had already known, but he had not realized the depth of this fear. He had simply thought it a small fear – their kind did not age physically after all. Still, it was within mere seconds that she was clinging him, her face buried into his chest. It was without a question that his arms wrapped around her, hands rubbing up and down her back as if to offer some sort of comfort. He was sorely tempted to kiss her on the forehead but he knew no good results would come from romantic notions with Vale when they were alone. Still, the desire was there. Masaru took solace in the fact that she was simply there in his arms for his comfort, not Sages or Parkers or anyone elses. “If you haven't angered anyone recently then I do not understand why this has happened to you. I do not know of any vampires who have a grudge against me.” He replied, before realizing that Vale was staring into his eyes silently. Vale's rainy hues swirled with emotion, and he simply stared into hers with a completely different one, before looking away to the wall. She did not need his emotional issues baring down on her at that moment in time. He moved his head back slightly as she suddenly look in another direction, though he didn't particularly mind that she had stopped staring. It was all too tempting for him to take that step that would lead to the roller coaster of mutual destruction. However it was not long before he sensed her looking back up at him once more, and it was not long before his eyes were locked back onto hers. There was just something about her that made him feel almost...human. Which was odd, since he hadn't been one for a very, very long time. When Vale opened their metaphysical connection, Masaru was a little taken aback by the fact that she missed their relationship as well, though he was not sure what to make of it. Whether it was a nostalgia or regret, or something she desired to happen again...Masaru wasn't sure that he wanted to know either. It would make things complicated between them once more, not that things had ever been simple. Vale's next words was a welcome distraction from such a topic. “It was cleaned earlier today. I like cleanliness.” He smiled softly, before loosening his hold on her a little so she could break away if she choose to. “I reorganized the contents in there earlier today actually. Everything is in order...I even placed some objects aside to keep it that way.” Masaru sighed softly, looking at the cabinet. “Though I do care about those objects a lot...they simply did not match the design and feel of the rest of the cabinet...and should those objects ever fall or break a shelf, everything would simply come crashing down.” “However I couldn't simply bear to throw the objects away...I could never do that. I care far too much about them. All it would take was a second of doubt for me to place them back into the cabinet.” |

Why would she want to break away when he was so comfortable? If anything, Masaru's loosening his hold on her only encouraged Vale to tighten her grip on him. To make sure that he wouldn't go leaving her, more then anything, and this was something that she could actually admit to herself. She loved it when things could be simple between the both of them. Although there were so many underlying complications in their situation, just standing there at that moment and holding one another was enough to keep her content. At least for now. But then he had to go and ruin it. The talk of the cabinet had been brushed off at first; just some mindless chatter to fill the time.. but she soon saw that it was much, much more then that. Although being compared to some kind of object (albeit an object that was apparently cared very much for; but still an object) might not have been the most romantic of metaphors in the world, it was still enough to convey his message across quite clearly. As if she hadn't known already. He was so selfish that, although he still loved her and wanted to keep her around, he couldn't actually bear to act like they were together (even just in private) in front of the public eye, all because he was too weak to handle such a situation. Raising both hands to his cheeks, she leaned up yet again, this time instead of merely looking into his eyes also pressing her lips to his gently. The kiss lasted just a second; a quick peck on the lips, but it was enough. "And what about those objects.. should they simply allow themselves to be pushed aside, in such a manner? It sounds to me like what you're doing is quite selfish, if I'm not mistaken. Catering to just your own wants; neither you or.. the objects', needs. Which, I suppose, could be considered just as destructive - or dangerous - as keeping said objects on the shelf." Perhaps she truly was aging; it'd been quite a time since she'd managed to voice her thoughts to Masaru so clearly, without the use of their connection. "I suppose that, in the end, it's just a matter of opinion. Some of course, more valued than others, but then there's nothing that can be done about that..." |

The kiss was enough to remind him just what he was missing, and just how much he missed her. It was almost painful to know the situation and that he simply could not allow himself to fall back into a relationship with her. Masaru dropped the analogy of the cabinet now, knowing that there was no point in pretending they were discussing something else. His voice was almost regretful as he spoke his next words. “Being with you is not a need, for I can survive without us, as can you.” He dropped his hands from her waist completely now, anticipating a fight that he didn't want to have...the only other option being one that he wanted to happen, but could not allow. It was extremely frustrating to him, to be caught in such a situation. “I do not know what you expect from me...but I can assure you that my actions have been everything but selfish...” If he had taken the selfish path, Vale would be forever obliged to remain by his side whether she liked or hated it...and he would have long dropped his duties to the council to simply remain in her company forever. Masaru shook his head at her last remark, his face sombre. “Vale, you know how important you are to me. You have seen it. We have already proven that our joke of a relationship would never last. I am not like those of your line, nor will I ever be, and it is my nature to become possessive and over-protective...something which you cannot seem to bear. What is it you want from me? To admit this weakness so that others may exploit it? Well there, you have it...I do love you Vale. But not enough to sacrifice all the achievements I have made thus far.” Even though his words were harsh, the look he was giving her was anything but. “Besides...” He stated, his hand now cupping her cheek. “I think you enjoy this little game we are playing. For you only want those who are unattainable. And I am making myself very much so, at least to you.” His hand moved from her check to her shoulder, before drifting back to by his side. It was then that he turned around, walking over to his desk and taking the mirror that sat there. He then walked over to Vale, handing her the object. “I want you to look in the mirror, and tell me if you see yourself aging constantly or if you just see yourself with a few wrinkles here and there...we need to figure out exactly what is going wrong with you before I can begin research on attempting to find a cure.” |

"Being with you is not a need, for I can survive without us, as can you." Her pleasant smile hid the pang that struck at Vale's insides at these words, and she merely shrugged in response. They could both survive just fine without one another emotionally.. after all, they had managed to do it for hundreds of years. However, since their particularly strong connection had been made, saying that they would survive physically (and metaphysically) without one another was already leaning a little more toward an untruth, then anything else. They, essentially, completed one another. He carried a part of her inside him and as did she, him. They couldn't be apart for too long, or it would begin to seriously affect them, in more ways then one. She knew he hadn't meant his words in that sense. But it was a minor comfort to know that in her own mind, he was wrong. Though she was trying hard not to show it, him calling their relationship a 'joke' did irritate her. Nevermind that she agreed with it, partially.. it was just the fact that he was being so.. closed minded, about it, that bothered her. What had he honestly expected her to do, when they'd first become a 'couple'? Been a loving girlfriend and stayed perfectly faithful, despite the fact that then, she hadn't felt absolutely anything for him but contempt? If even that. He'd just been another entity that she tried not to anger, and who just so happened to provide for her a place to spend her days at rest. She hadn't cared in the slightest about him, and he had expected her to simply nod and smile at the idea of forming a relationship. Naturally she'd exploited it in whatever way had benefitted her... until things started to get a little complicated. It was only recently, possibly just becuase she now knew she couldn't have him, that Vale had taken more of an interest in Masaru. She hadn't known when it had begun, perhaps after their 'breakup', perhaps sometime during their nights spent together as a couple. Whatever the case, it had happened, and now she didn't know what to do about it. He refused to take her back, convinced that things would simply end up the same... but she wasn't entirely sure that was the case. There was a chance, that the moment she was allowed to have him back, she wouldn't want him anymore. There was also a chance that she'd be glad at the opportunity at a second chance, so to speak; she just wouldn't know until she had him. She didn't reply to anything that he'd said.. yet. Instead Vale watched, in a state of slight unease, as he went over and picked up the mirror, only to hand it to her. Staring into it with an expression of distaste, just as she had since she first spotted the wrinkle, she detested the reflection that stared back at her. The two wrinkles appeared to be the same as they had been before, no change to be seen. She continued to stare for several moments, knowing somewhere in her mind that the longer she concentrated on the imperfections the more apparent they would seem to become. It was just a natural trick of the mind - and it was exactly what happened. With a forced sigh, she lowered the mirror. "The wrinkles - there are two, now - seem to be getting more obvious.. but there's a good chance that this is just my own mind not working at it's best." Glancing at the mirror once more - still no change - she looked back up at him. The height difference between them was quite a large one, but she'd gotten more then used to most people towering over her, in her lifetime. "..You may be right, you know." Pausing, she handed the mirror back to him. If he wanted her to continue to look at the reflection he would need to hold the mirror for her. She didn't think her own hand would let her stare at such a horrific sight any longer. "About me only wanting you because you've made yourself unattainable." Walking over to the couch inside the study, she allowed herself to fall back upon it into a laying position, lifting her feet onto the armrest opposite her head. "But then again, you might be wrong, also." A long silence followed her words, before Vale eventually broke it. "What about.. The Kinslayer? Do you love her?" |
