REINHA :: Queen of Thugs
|
It had been probably almost two weeks since the night that the call for cougars had been felt and inspected – something which had led to a new discovery that had left at least Emilia’s head spinning for a few days or so before it finally began to sink in properly that she was pregnant. Thankfully it had taken a standard test at the hospital to confirm that the timing was right for it to be Jason’s (she’d tactfully avoided having to tell him about her one-nighter with Charles a couple weeks prior to the festival) and since then both of them had been reeling from the idea of expanding the small family they already had. The rest of the time had been more a procrastination of the inevitable – having to tell others about it. They’d decided to keep it quiet until they could come up with some way to break the news, though in the end had failed to come up with anything so Emi just decided that it had to be done like pulling off a bandaid – quickly and hoping for as little pain as possible. And where to begin... with family she supposed. There had been debate over it with Jason, but after a few comments which had earned him not only a slap for being a chicken, but also many sad looks from the blonde, they’d arranged to have dinner with her brother at a restaurant in the city. A restaurant seemingly had better odds of someone not being shot or hurt than privacy at the estate. There was another reason to speak to Aidan as well, regarding Nina and whether she was really safe in the country at the moment with the way everything was going. She was considering the idea of sending her daughter to stay with her grandfather for a short while, but was hoping that Aidan might be able to escort the five year old there for her. The cougar didn’t particularly want to leave her post in Paris at the moment, especially with how busy the hospital was and other things she was running. Something else she’d probably have to let him in on... This was probably going to be at least a memorable night, though she wasn’t sure what part of it all she was more worried about telling Aidan. Perhaps just go with the flow and see how everything ran she supposed. Pulling up outside the restaurant in ‘Baby’, which Emi had given Jason the keys to drive with a smile as they’d left the house (knowing it’d improve his mood some as well), the cougar reached over and squeezed his hand lightly before stepping out of the car. She waited for the wolf to join her before stepping into the restaurant Lasserre and smiling at the door host who greeted them, “Bonjour monsieur. Réservation pour Deveraux?” She smiled as the waiter nodded and directed them through toward their table, and she brushed Jason’s hand subtly with her own as they followed. While Emi would’ve preferred to hold the wolf’s hand considering the slight nauseous feeling in her stomach, the place was crowded and she hadn’t picked out whether Aidan has arrived before them or not and would see. It was probably best not to start off the entire evening on bad standing. Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Mar 8 2009, 03:09 PM.

Ulfric // Emi's Beau
|
The last five years with Emily seemed to pale in comparison to the last two weeks. As strange and unbelievable as that was. Now officially a couple and their love for each other known, it seemed the night of intimacy at the Festival had also left them with a present. Two actually. The werewolf's head was still spinning from the discovery, even if it had been a vampire to deliver the news. He was going to be a father. Even though he had helped raise Nina, there still seemed to be something different about this. It was probably more that they were going to be his children, both his and Emi's. Not that not being Nina's real father made him love her any less. It was just the concept. He was going to be a dad, especially when the word father stirred memories and thoughts of his own that were none too pleasant. Regardless he was still dumbfounded and two weeks later still in a state of mild shock. But now both he and Emi had to consider how they would tell the people they knew. Jason was not sure how they would take it, though he hoped it would be with open arms. Really, why wouldn't they? At least as far as certain people in the Pack were concerned. Though who knew. He was the Ulfric and she the Reinha, different species, different groups and different traditions. It was almost like one was Jewish and the other Catholic. Unfortunately there was also Aidan. Emily had come to the conclusion that not only did they just need to flat out tell people since there was no other easy way to break the news, but they needed to start with, of all people, her half brother. It was no secret either that Aidan and Jason were not on the friendliest of turns and all it took was one little fiasco at the hospital to get them both off on the wrong foot. Not to mention neither had bothered to get on the right foot since then. Despite his protest though and trying to convince Emi that they would just tell Aidan that he was feeding her well (and had blown up a few pounds) rather than she was carrying twins. Unfortunately that had ended with Jason getting a slap and a hurt Emi at the suggestion she would be fat. "I think I should have worn my bullet proof vest anyway." The wolf mumbled under his breath once they had got out of the car and were now following the host to their table. At least he had gotten to drive the GTO to the restaurant, even if it was just a way to brighten his mood. It had made him forget about the dinner for a little while, especially when he had revved the engine a few times with boyish amusement. |

Old habits die hard, and Aidan really had no reason to kill this particular habit. He had arrived early, a customary habit born from years of training. Part of his mind was cataloging everything; the best points of exit, who might be a threat (no one that he could tell), the general lay of the restaurant. The rest if his mind was dwelling on why he was here. He could just be over thinking the entire thing, but somehow he doubted this was just a social outing with his sister and her…friend. Aidan couldn’t help disliking the man, Jason. Their first encounter hardly coloring the werewolf in a good light. Aidan still had trouble believing that his relationship with Emily was going as smooth as it was. Any type of relationship beyond professional was always a test for the leopard, and even those relationships were strained most of the time. Aidan was usually a loner, the jobs he was assigned or took, depending on the agency, rarely called for team-work. There were always those times though when the clients were idiots, or other agencies stuck their noses in where it didn’t belong…. Aidan was pulled from his reminiscing as the pair came into the restaurant, Aidan’s eyes rising to look at them with a faint smile as he stood from his seat. Public appearances could be kept up, and Aidan had the sneaking suspicion that his sister had planned it this way. That couldn’t be good, now could it? As the host dropped them off, Aidan inclined his head briefly. “Good evening Emily, Jason.” There, that wasn’t so difficult, was it? Once they sat down, Aidan would also retake his seat. He thought back to the brief phone conversation that had led them to this place here tonight. It was a simple invitation to dinner so they could discuss some plans for Nina to potentially meet her grandpa. Aidan hadn’t found anything wrong with the idea, and actually thought it might be good for the old man to meet the granddaughter he never knew he had. He also understood the timing on why Emily would want something like that for her daughter. The political climate in Paris was rather extreme at the moment. Aidan knew he wouldn’t want his own children, had he had any, to be in this setting. The political climate was also now an official reason why he was here. Go figure the agency he worked through to find a reason for him to be here. He figured they got off on interfering with his time off when he wasn’t at home. However he was here to observe, so he could afford to take a few days to do whatever he needed with his personal life. “It’s a pleasure to see you both doing so well, though I hadn’t thought to see you again so soon.” He looked at Jason with a smirk, the words not quite as true as they could be, at least as far as it applied to Jason. Emily he was glad to see again, despite the wolf she was with. “I hope neither of you mind, but I ordered us all a glass of wine and water.” Evidenced by the wine and water sitting in front of each of their places. |

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs

It didn’t take long to spot her brother as he stood from the table that had been reserved for them, and Emily smiled brightly as she waved as they approached. Thanking the host with a nod, she then turned back to Aidan as she continued to fight down the small sick feeling down in the pit of her stomach. Really now, what was wrong with her? Usually she didn’t get this phased by something simple as a few home truths being aired. She’d known that Aidan would have to find out about what she did sooner or later, and well telling him she and Jason had made it official wasn’t so bad was it? The pregnancy... well... that was touch and go. “Good evening Emily, Jason.” “Good evening. You are looking well Aidan,” Emi’s tone was light and cheerful as she addressed her brother. As strange as it had been to come to terms with having a family outside that which she’d known about, once the concept had settled inside her mind then she actually found herself quite happy about it. But then, she was always happy to have more people to bring closer into her fold – the loneliness of her youth somehow being made up for in her adult life. Knowing Jason would automatically move to pull her chair out for her (as not only the polite thing to do, but also because he’d been treating her a little more carefully since they’d found out she was pregnant), she let him go ahead before seating herself down in it with the same warm smile still etched on her features. So far so good, though it was only the start after all – Emi hoped the nausea went away by itself. “It’s a pleasure to see you both doing so well, though I hadn’t thought to see you again so soon.” The smirk aimed at Jason didn’t go missed by the cougar once they were all sat down, and she resisted the urge to pat the wolf on the leg reassuringly. It had already been a struggle to get him to agree to dinner. “I hope neither of you mind, but I ordered us all a glass of wine and water.” Wine... Emi didn’t react but she had to go through a few mental processes before deciding that a few glasses over the course of the meal wouldn’t cause any problems – she was a lycanthrope after all. Though she was still a little wary, she didn’t reveal such, “Well that is the fun part about having family; it means you have to catch up with them every so often. It could be worse, I could be dragging you to the Easter parade... which I probably will anyway.” She chuckled and shook her head lightly, “And really, as if I would mind you ordering wine.” Finally beginning to relax slightly, Emi leaned an elbow on the table as she raised an eyebrow at the leopard, “And how have you been fairing? I assume you have been keeping yourself busy? You know Nina keeps asking when you are going to visit next.” |

Ulfric // Emi's Beau
|
It was sooner than later when Emily had spotted Aidan among the crowd of people in the restaurant. Jason had followed her gaze to also catch sight of the leopard when he stood to greet them. Inwardly the werewolf was dreading this meeting. Even in a busy establishment as the Lasserre, he was still skeptical of Emi's intent to keep any incidents to a medium. The fight at the hospital was the perfect example that neither man had any problem getting into a scuffle in public. But perhaps they could mend a few fences tonight or just blow the whole damn thing up. Putting on a pleasant face he gave the other man a small nod at the greeting along with one of his own, "Aidan." Short and sweet. Jason then moved in behind Emilia's chair to pull it out for her. The man hesitated for a brief moment just as he began to grasp the chair and move it, glancing over to Aidan before he continued. There was nothing suspicious about being a gentleman. That is unless the leopard was looking for any excuse in the world to have something against Jason. Once Emily was settled, the wolf sat in his own chair before Aidan followed after, “It’s a pleasure to see you both doing so well, though I hadn’t thought to see you again so soon.” The pointed look at his direction, gave Jason a momentary pause. Obviously the hospital incident was still fresh in the other man's mind. Instead of retorting with several replies that suddenly came to mind, Jason kept his mouth shut and forced a smile to his face; though there was little humor in his eyes, “I hope neither of you mind, but I ordered us all a glass of wine and water.” Instantly Jason's eyes shot to the cougar before they darted back to the glasses, "Thank you." Another curt response as he reached out for the glass of water to take a sip for his suddenly dry throat. Out of the corner of his eye he observed whether or not Emi would take a sip of the wine. Would it really hurt the twins? It was times like these that he wish he knew more about lycan pregnancies. Or hell, pregnancy in general. Even with Nina he had come into the picture after she had been born. Another long sip and the glass was replaced on the table with half of the water gone. Meanwhile Jason was trying not to let the paranoia get to him or even that feeling of dread that had settled on his shoulders like a ton of bricks weighing them down. What happened to the band-aid method? Maybe it was just because Jason had not thought about them actually having idle chit-chat and a real conversation outside of the news they had brought. But for now those thoughts kept the werewolf silent, save for a few simple one worded answers and a nod here or there. |

Aidan laughed as Emily went over the better points about having family. It brought back memories of his childhood on the bases with his father and the rest of the families during their holiday gatherings. ”Yes, well I don’t suppose that catching up every so often is a bad thing at all. And I’ll make sure my calendar is free for the holidays.” His mood was much better than it had been moments ago, even with Jason there. He wouldn’t admit it, but if Jason could be cordial despite a little ribbing, then Aidan could see no reason not to lighten up and stop giving the man a hard time. It wasn’t as if they married or anything. Aidan was sure there’d be another night he could convince the man of the error of his ways. “I’ve been quite well, and just busy enough.” Mostly an understatement. Aidan was much busier than he had been when he first came to Paris. At the mention of Nina, Aidan let a genuine smile break through. Emily’s daughter was one of the cutest, smartest children he had ever met. It would be a true pleasure to visit with her again. “All she needs to do is call and I’ll be there. Though I was thinking of dropping by in the next couple of days, if you wouldn’t mind?” He couldn’t help keeping the mildly questioning look off of his face. He knew part of this get together had to deal with the little girl, but he felt that she was not the only reason. Taking a drink of his own wine, Aidan set the glass back down and looked at Jason. “And what about yourself Jason? How have you been? I’d hate to monopolize the conversation, and as we’re going to be close to one another I assume for the next little bit, we might as well try and get to know one another a little bit better.” |

So far so good... Emi continued the mantra for every moment they’d been sitting down. Despite the incident that had occurred when they’d met, it seemed both men were going to at least be pleasant around one another, which she was thankful for. Of course, whether it lasted long or not was questionable. Emi grinned as Aidan mentioned keeping holidays free and nodded, “Well, you will really have no choice there, because if I cannot convince you I am rather certain there is a five year old I could get to do it for me.” Nina was a weakness for a great number of people –and Emi had discovered that Aidan wasn’t immune to the young girl’s charm either. Absently, Emi reached for the glass of wine provided without much thought for a moment as her mind went through a number of processes again on how to reveal that Aidan was going to be an uncle again – twice over. Though, as soon as the glass was near her lips she could feel the gaze of a certain wolf on her and she almost paused before taking just a small sip and placing the glass back down. Perhaps she would be better off just biting the bullet now and saving the slight discomfort while they dragged it out. “I certainly have no problem at all with you coming out to visit whenever you like,” Emi’s features brightened with a smile at the leopard again despite the knowledge that she and Jason definitely couldn’t back out of telling him their relationship status now – there was a lot of Jason’s things to be found at her place these days, not to mention the man had practically moved in since he was there every day as well. That nauseous feeling grew a little, but was swallowed down when a waiter arrived with a small platter of appetisers that Emi had made sure to ask for when booking the reservation. She thanked the man as he set it on the table while Aidan turned his questions toward Jason. The cougar picked up a small crispy bread stick and swiped it through some dip before taking a bite and trying not to cringe at Aidan’s reasoning for asking about Jason. It would be more than just a little bit, she wanted to say that they were going to be in it for the long haul, but thankfully her mouth was busy chewing on food in order to settle her stomach. The woman could wait for the moment though, let the men chat and maybe they could find some common ground? Possibly? It was a small hope though she wasn’t placing a whole lot of faith in it, perhaps once the subject returned to one of the subjects they had to discuss it would be easier to disclose everything else. |

As hard as it was to wait for the inevitable revelations, it did not make it much better for the werewolf to see, out of the corner of his eye, Emi taking a sip of wine. Naturally he trusted that she knew what she was doing. She had been pregnant before and she was a doctor now. But still, a lot of natural instinct as well as having been assaulted with all sorts of advertisements and posters warning of the dangers of alcohol, smoking and pregnancy as a youth. So it was a little hard not to be concerned anyway. Only when the glass of wine was placed back on the table did Jason return his attention back to the wereleopard while the conversation was steered toward Nina and that Aidan wanted to see her again, “I certainly have no problem at all with you coming out to visit whenever you like." Jason had to refrain from cringing as he knew that they would have to tell Aidan now. A good chunk of the wolf's stuff was now located at Emi's house though there were still a few things back at the apartment as well. Regardless it would be clear to anyone that visited that the Ulfric also made his home there. For a moment he half expected Emi to go ahead and bring up the subject that they were both a couple now. Unfortunately the appearance of a waiter cut short any hope of that happening as a plate of appetizers were placed on the table for them. The expectant look was conveyed to the cougar, though she seemed to have busied herself with the breadsticks before the topic moved on to Jason, “And what about yourself Jason? How have you been? I’d hate to monopolize the conversation, and as we’re going to be close to one another I assume for the next little bit, we might as well try and get to know one another a little bit better.” For a moment he was taken aback simply by the choice of words that Aidan had used. Did he suspect something anyway? "Not bad... busy as well, with work." He leaned back in his chair a little, followed by a simple shrug, "What with everything going on nowadays." At least the topic of the current political situation in Paris was common ground for all of them, even if it was not the most pleasant of things to talk about, "PPIT is pretty busy..." Maybe Jason should have warned Emilia that he was not that great at idle conversation as he trailed off into awkward silence. |

Playing the Nina card was a low blow, but Aidan could hardly hold that against Emily. Nina definitely had the leopard wrapped around her finger, but Aidan didn’t mind in the least. He very much so enjoyed children, and Emily’s daughter rated high on his list of favorite people. “I’ll try not to wear out the invitation then.” After the waiter delivered the appetizers, Aidan took a breadstick as well, smiling some as Jason talked about the going-on with his job. He nodded some, finishing chewing part of his bread stick. “I can only imagine. I take it then you do other things for them beyond your duties as an executioner? I imagine that part of the job can’t be that busy right now, though considering where we are, maybe it’s always busy?” Aidan was much like Jason, not having a real knack for small talk. He was quite curious as to what else they might be gathered for, but remained tactful enough not to ask out loud, or hint at it. It would happen when she was ready to tell him, he was sure. Until then, at least he and Jason had some common ground, both of them Executioners. And of course, he and Emily were family, hard to find something to have more in common than that. |

While Emilia wanted to get everything out in the open quickly, she was having trouble coming up with a way to bring it up rather than just blurting it out ungracefully. Personally she wasn’t sure if the waiter was a godsend or a badly timed interruption. Maybe she could have gone on to let Aidan know there was someone else living with her now, but that moment was lost once the men began to chat. Unfortunately she’d forgotten that Jason wasn’t much one for idle banter and while she chewed her stick and listened she wondered if this was just going to get more awkward the longer they waited. Damnit... Finishing the small breadstick, Emi picked up a piece of cheese and popped it in her mouth distractedly thinking while Jason and Aidan spoke about the times and how busy it might be at PPIT, and for Executioners. Trust her to be involved with gun toting men – not that she was exactly one to talk, considering she tended to carry one everywhere she went herself. ”... I imagine that part of the job can’t be that busy right now, though considering where we are, maybe it’s always busy?” Emi blinked herself back from her pondering and snickered lightly at the conversation as she glanced at Aidan, “Chere, where we are, anything that is involved with our special community is busy. It is part of why I think it may be both safer and better for Nina if she was out of the country for even a short time. Both of us are run off our feet lately so we’re not home to watch over things as much as I would like...” Too busy still thinking, Emi hadn’t even noticed that she’d automatically added Jason into the equation as someone who called her place home as well. Instead, Emi’s thoughts had gone to other reasons why Nina needed to be somewhere safer while she distractedly picked up another breadstick and dipped it, “Also... I would like to keep her out of any potential... crossfire that could occur.” The blonde’s eyebrows furrowed as her lips pouted thoughtfully as though she was trying to come to a decision. A moment later her gaze shifted up to Aidan once more and she sighed softly, “There are a few things you need to know... but I do not think you are going to like them all.” If any, Emi added silently. After another small pause she continued, her voice dropping to a volume that only the other two lycanthropes would hear, “I am not sure where to begin, so I suppose I shall begin with what kind of danger Nina could be in if she stays...” Emi’s gaze became slightly scrutinous as she watched Aidan and leaned against the table toward him a little, “I know that you have been more than simply a Vampire Executioner, so I might as well ask right now so I know how much needs to be explained... have you ever heard of Goldilocks?” |

“I can only imagine. I take it then you do other things for them beyond your duties as an executioner? I imagine that part of the job can’t be that busy right now, though considering where we are, maybe it’s always busy?” Talk of work did help relax Jason a little and it also helped that he did have some common ground with the man who was also in the execution business. There was perhaps more to Aidan's work but it did not particularly matter. Jason nodded, "Yeah, I tend to fill in whatever role they need at times. It's the unfortunate part of being on PPITs payroll rather than freelance. But it's a steady paycheck." The werewolf shrugged at that, "As far as executions, it's a little difficult in Paris." Not that Jason had any real experience in being an executioner outside of France after all. He had not been home to America in ages. Not since he left for the military at any rate. Though it helped that he did not have any ties there, only the faint memories of growing up. Even if it had been in foster care or an orphanage. “Chere, where we are, anything that is involved with our special community is busy. It is part of why I think it may be both safer and better for Nina if she was out of the country for even a short time. Both of us are run off our feet lately so we’re not home to watch over things as much as I would like...” Jason's brows drew up as he caught the phrasing of Emilia's sentence, though he managed not to look at her. Instead his eyes remained forward to look at the leopard, wondering if the other man had caught on to the choice of words that she had used. If he had then it would be fairly obvious that he and Emi were living together or at least more than casually dating or having sex in hospitals. The conversation moved forward though while Jason sat in silence and waited for some sort of a reaction from the other man while taking a sip of his wine this time. Jason was bouncing somewhere between not wanting to tell Emi's brother to just ripping it off like a bandaid. Neither option was all that great though. “There are a few things you need to know... but I do not think you are going to like them all.” This was it. Jason drew in a deep breath while casting a glance to Emilia, as if bracing himself for what she would say and Aidan's reaction, “I know that you have been more than simply a Vampire Executioner, so I might as well ask right now so I know how much needs to be explained... have you ever heard of Goldilocks?” The breath he held was released and he nearly groaned, instead it was an inward one as Emi's alter-ego was mentioned. Jason had hoped that, that part of Emi's life had died a long time ago but with Iveriot's iron grip ever increasing on the preternatural community... well, desperate times sometimes called for desperate measures. Or at least sneaky ones and thus the return of Goldilocks. Jason drained the rest of his wine. |

Aidan could completely understand where Emily was coming from. Nina in any type of danger hardly sat well with the leopard, and he very much doubted the child’s mother. Yet despite the understanding, and the new common ground the leopard shared with the wolf, Aidan’s look was cold towards Jason. He hadn’t missed the casual use of ‘we’ and ‘us’ in what Emily said. But even that would have been tolerable; what was not tolerable, was that they were living together! “I completely understand Emily. It would be very unfortunate if Nina somehow got involved in this whole mess.” His voice warmed almost instantly, though his smile at Emily never quite touched his eyes, which lingered on Jason for a few long moments more. Green eyes locked with Jason’s as the leopard took another long swallow of wine, then set down his own empty glass. Aidan watched and analyzed Jason as the man seemed unsure of what they were doing. He fully knew it was a ‘we’ thing now and not just some casual get together meant to discuss the immediate future for Emily’s daughter. If that was how it was going to be, then Jason had better take very good care of his sister and niece. In the back of his mind he knew Jason was probably a decent man, no one was perfect, but be damned if Aidan would admit it just yet. Part of being a brother was to look out for your sister, and as Jason was around, but not Nina’s father, someone else had somehow managed to hurt Emily before Aidan had arrived. Though at Emily’s next statement that he probably wouldn’t like some of what she was about to say, Aidan’s eyes turned to his sister. “I know that you have been more than simply a Vampire Executioner, so I might as well ask right now so I know how much needs to be explained... have you ever heard of Goldilocks?” Aidan’s eyes narrowed dangerously, both for the name she mentioned, he had more than a passing familiarity with the notorious international criminal, as well as for the fact that she was one of a select few names on his current list. His voice was as low as hers was, private just for the three of them. “Terrorist, assassin, con artist. Take your pick. I know as much about her as most in my line of work would.” His eyes went between the two of them, family familiarity and any personal relationships pushed aside as Aidan shifted into the colder, much more professional persona of the hired killer he was. What did Emily know of this woman, and what could he glean off of her to get him closer to the infamous criminal. “Why do you ask?” |

The moment Emilia noticed the look Aidan had shot at Jason, she realised she’d perhaps said more than she’d meant to on their relationship status. Uh... whoops? Not that she hadn’t been planning on telling her brother anyway, but she’d been aiming for something a little gentler rather than admitting that she and the wolf were actually living together now. Still, not much she could do about any of it now it was out in the open. Thankfully she’d managed to keep the conversation moving on with the admittance that she didn’t want Nina to get caught up in other things that would be going down. In fact, Emi had a feeling that her alter ego was going to be a little more precarious to explain. She knew about the price on her head (though such knowledge she’d kept to herself for the most part), and she knew that Aidan did a lot more than he admitted. Which meant she was really taking a big chance on him right now, to trust that he would place family as priority in this matter. Emilia watched her brother as soon as she dropped the name, and took note of his immediate reactions, knowing already that he knew enough about her alter-ego that she wasn’t going to have to explain who she was at all. Though she was also suspicious at just what kind of reason he would have to know, she was willing to bet it was to do with his line of work. “Terrorist, assassin, con artist. Take your pick. I know as much about her as most in my line of work would... Why do you ask?” Yep. Reputation tended to speak for itself – and in this case she was a mixture of glad and apprehensive. But despite the cold professional look that his features had transformed into, which meant he had perhaps a little more interest in Goldilocks than she might have considered originally, Emilia simply stared it straight on with her own dark, and slightly amused, gaze as her lips curled into a dangerous smile. A look that certainly didn’t belong on the face of someone who saved lives, “Well, while I would be curious about your own interest in her, I suppose I should finish what I began...” The blonde raised an eyebrow as she played with a breadstick and regarded Aidan for a moment as though considering something before she finally continued, “You know when you’re staring something square in the eye and do not even realise it is there?” Emi almost had to chuckle and for a moment couldn’t help casting Jason a small amused glance before her attention returned to Aidan, her features shifting into a deadly serious look. With possibly just as cold a demeanour, so that she knew he would take her seriously, she spoke simply, “You needn’t keep hunting if you are, as I suspect; you are looking at her.” Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Mar 13 2009, 12:51 PM.

Ulfric // Emi's Beau
|
The change in Aidan had not only been noticed by Emily, but Jason as well. The wish that Aidan would not notice the slip of words from his sister had unfortunately not come true. Jason should have known better; men in their profession could not be unobservant after all -- but it had not stopped his wishful thinking. The wolf tensed when his hazel eyes met Aidan's while the wine glass was drained and placed back on the table. Naturally Jason's own gaze did not falter as the two seemed to enter a staring contest; two Alpha males sizing the other up. Jason knew that he could not back down from Emi's brother, even if Aidan did not approve -- well he would have to cope with it. The longer the two men looked at each other the more determined the werewolf became that he would make it abundantly clear that he loved Emily dearly. The staring contest had been put on hold shortly after at the mention of Goldilocks and while Aidan's attention darted to Emily, Jason continued to watch the other man carefully. While at first the wolf was not sure why the international criminal had been brought up, he supposed that it was just more of what Emi's brother had a right to know. Though Jason hoped that a man with that information could be trusted. The memory of his encounter with the bounty hunter after Goldilocks drifted through his mind while Aidan explained what he knew of the criminal. “Well, while I would be curious about your own interest in her, I suppose I should finish what I began... You know when you’re staring something square in the eye and do not even realise it is there?” For a split second Jason caught her eyes as she spoke. To say the least the Ulfric was uneasy about discussing Goldilocks in a restaurant, low voices or not. It prompted him to glance around, quickly surveying those in the immediate vicinity, “You needn’t keep hunting if you are, as I suspect; you are looking at her.” "And if you are looking for her..." Jason finished his scan before settling his gaze on Aidan, "It'd be best to get it out in the open now." |

”Well, while I would be curious about your own interest in her, I suppose I should finish what I began…” Aidan remained quiet, listening intently to his sister. Anything she knew had to invariably take him one step closer to finding the woman. This his brows drew up when she asked him about staring something right in the face and not even realizing it. She couldn’t be serious, could she? Aidan wouldn’t believe that, there was no way she could be. And yet she was, if her words were to be believed, and he had no reason to doubt her. She had to know the price on her head, and she gained nothing by admitting to a lie like that. Bloody fucking hell. “And if you are looking for her…It’d be best to get it out in the open now.” He looked between the two, incredulity written across his features. “I seriously hope you’re kidding….” Aidan was at a complete loss. Sliding his chair back some, Aidan moved to stand up and then sat back down. After repeating the same movement twice more, Aidan finally remained seated. “Christ Emily, you know there’s a ten million euro bounty on your head?! Ten fucking million! And you go just saying that casually like you’re announcing what the weather’s going to be.” Aidan paused, glaring around him as people looked his way at the slightly elevated noise level. Turning his attention back to the pair, Aidan stood up again out of his chair. “I’m going to step out for a moment, and when I get back, I hope you can tell me that you’re playing some sick and twisted joke at my expense.” With that Aidan turned on his heel, walking away from the table, anger written over his face. Running a hand through his hair, Aidan stepped out of the restaurant and into the night. Moments later his phone was in his hand, flipped open with the leopard just staring at the screen. |

“I seriously hope you’re kidding….” The cougar simply continued to watch her brother move to stand and sit with calm seriousness as she remained silent. It was a hope that was going to go unfulfilled unfortunately since she didn’t fancy trying to take back what she’d said – besides it wasn’t exactly something to joke about... as he continued with the exact reason why. “Christ Emily, you know there’s a ten million euro bounty on your head?! Ten fucking million! And you go just saying that casually like you’re announcing what the weather’s going to be.” “Baise... Aidan!” Emi hissed as she cast her eyes about the immediate vicinity, as well as probed the surface thoughts of a few people who could possibly have overheard. It also kept her distracted from having to look at Jason as her brother mentioned something she’d have preferred to have kept to herself. The woman had been keeping tabs on a few certain things since the first hunter that had been discovered by the wolf himself – and the price on one’s head wasn’t exactly something one brought up in casual conversation. Jason was bothered enough about the reappearance of Goldilocks; this wasn’t going to help much at all. “I’m going to step out for a moment, and when I get back, I hope you can tell me that you’re playing some sick and twisted joke at my expense.” The blonde let the man go as he stood and left, before deflating with a sigh as she closed her eyes and spoke softly, “Wishful thinking...” At least he hadn’t shot her... even if the way he’d walked out might seem suspicious, she didn’t believe he would betray her. The nauseous feeling had returned a bit stronger, not to mention she was beginning to feel warm and stuffy; and the cougar rubbed her temple lightly as she chanced a glance at Jason, “That... maybe went better than I had thought it would?” As a waiter stopped by the table to ask if they were ready to order food Emi shook her head, but decided that drinks might be needed for the remainder of the meal, “Pourrions-nous avoir deux bouteilles de vin ? En fait, pouvez-vous faire que trois ? Et une bouteille de l'eau minérale. Merci beaucoup.” Pourrions-nous avoir deux bouteilles de vin ? En fait, pouvez-vous faire que trois ? Et une bouteille de l'eau minérale. Merci beaucoup. Could we have two bottles of wine? In fact, can you make that three? And a bottle of mineral water. Thank you very much. |

Ulfric // Emi's Beau

The werewolf sincerely hoped that Aidan was in Paris to only reunite with his long lost half-sister and did not actually have a hidden agenda to find Goldilocks. For just a vampire executioner he seemed to know of the criminal a little too well which led Jason to believe that perhaps he was more than that. Jason had no knowledge of the woman prior to meeting Emilia after all though the circles he associated in had been entirely different. “I seriously hope you’re kidding….” While an incredulous look was painted on Aidan's face, there was one on Jason's that clearly stated that neither of them were kidding; despite the fact that the wolf wished they were. But he remained silent as the other man seemed torn between leaving the table or remaining in his chair. It was a lot of news for anyone to swallow. Hell, the first time Jason had heard it he didn't actually believe it. “Christ Emily, you know there’s a ten million euro bounty on your head?! Ten fucking million! And you go just saying that casually like you’re announcing what the weather’s going to be.” Jason jerked in his seat at the news and the size of the bounty on Emilia's head. His leg smacking against the leg of the table and causing the glassware to rattle loudly -- an echo of his own thoughts that had come to a screeching halt. He knew that she was wanted but had no idea of the price tag. No wonder the bounty hunter he had encountered went so far as to take a hostage to just get information. Anyone in their right mind would do what they could to get information for a price that high. “I’m going to step out for a moment, and when I get back, I hope you can tell me that you’re playing some sick and twisted joke at my expense.” Jason barely registered the man finally standing and leaving not only the table but also the building. He barely caught Emi speaking beside him until after she had ordered more drinks for them in French. All the while staring at the table with a furrowed brow - brooding. "How could you not tell me about that?" He asked quietly, eyes lifting only a moment to look at her. Perhaps it did not seem like a big deal to her but it certainly was in his eyes. Not even waiting for a response, he stood from his seat, "I need some air." Not really but it was an excuse to get up from the table and also to find out where the leopard had gone. Not wanting to take a chance on if the man was also hunting Goldilocks. When he stepped out of the building, his eyes moved to see the man not far off and with a cellphone in his hands -- seemingly staring at the screen, "Are you here for Emi or for her?" His tone was quiet but also held a serious edge to it as Jason came to stand beside the man while looking out at the street ahead of them. |

Emi had been rubbing her temple still, while contemplating just how the rest of the news was going to be explained to her brother and possible reasons why she suddenly felt quite cramped and feverish. She’d hate to have to admit that she was actually nervous – considering how casual she’d been about it she didn’t see how her body could register any kind of anxiety from what she’d known was coming. That was just stupid. "How could you not tell me about that?" The blonde’s golden-brown gaze shot up to meet Jason’s, her mind rattled from her thoughts as he spoke, and instantly she did feel the weight of guilt sitting nice and heavily on her shoulders at the simple question. The cougar opened her mouth to speak, but it was snapped shut a moment later as the wolf stood from the table as well, "I need some air." In silence, she simply watched as he left the restaurant as well, before practically face-planting on the table as she leaned forward with a groan. She’d apparently spoken too soon about it going better than she thought. Not that it really mattered now and Emi suddenly felt small and stupid as she realised she was becoming annoyingly emotional when she felt the sting of tears in her eyes and wiped them immediately. When was she supposed to have told him about the bounty? At the festival? That sure would’ve lightened things up no doubt. Or maybe when she found out she was pregnant? Or hey, just over the dinner table – ‘Oh by the way, there’s ten million on my head; that okay?’ Lost in her thoughts and sniffing lightly, Emi didn’t even realise she was being watched until another waiter stopped by and touched her on the shoulder which caused her to jump as he delivered the water and poured her a glass. Shaking herself out of it, Emi nodded smiled lightly before sighing as he left. Picking up another bread stick, she only took a bite from it when the nausea hit her again – so hard that she felt dizzy and found herself pushing her chair back to double over slightly while she held her head and clutched her abdomen. A moment later a couple of patrons and waiter immediately began asking her if she was okay. The cougar was loathe to admit it, but she suddenly had a feeling why she might be feeling terrible. And it was nothing to do with anxiety. Bloody hell... just what she needed. |

”Are you here for Emi or for her?” Aidan snapped his phone shut with a soft click and then proceeded to place the phone back into his inside pocket. Turning to face the wolf, Aidan shook his head. “I came here strictly for Emily. I couldn’t even know where she would be. To me she was just a name on a list, with a big number next to it. That’s a little different now, isn’t it? The name has a face, history…hell, I’m related to her! Honestly I’m a little relieved. I never really disagreed with what she’s done.” Turning back to the restaurant, Aidan started walking back towards it. “I’m a little surprised you came out here. Thought you might protect her more knowing what you know now. Doesn’t matter though really. She’s apparently readily capable of protecting herself. Doesn’t even really need us, now does she? Doesn’t matter though, I’ll keep on protecting her, I’m sure you will too.” Aidan moved back into the building then. He’d just needed a moment to wrap his head around everything. Stopping, he took the scene in within a moment, and his brow furrowed. Sticking his head back outside, Aidan looked pointedly at Jason. “Something’s wrong with Emily.” Moving back inside, Aidan went over to Emily. “What’s wrong?” |

The werewolf listened and nodded faintly when Aidan explained that he was here for Emily and not Goldilocks. It was a relief to know, even if Jason had been tempted to question the reason behind the man having his cell phone out just minutes before. Whatever it had been, it seemed to have passed though and Jason hoped that it was not because he had been tempted to call in the bounty. Christ how could she have a number that high on her head? And not even tell him? Ever? “I’m a little surprised you came out here. Thought you might protect her more knowing what you know now. Doesn’t matter though really. She’s apparently readily capable of protecting herself. Doesn’t even really need us, now does she? Doesn’t matter though, I’ll keep on protecting her, I’m sure you will too.” Jason turned back to the restaurant with Aidan while giving a shrug of his shoulders, "Yeah... she does know how to take care of herself." For a moment he wondered if he was wasting him time in even trying to protect her. Did Emi really need his help at all? His eyes lingered on the ground and his own feet in that moment of self doubt. At least Aidan had at least come to terms that Jason would be by her side anyway. Despite the doubt, Jason knew that he would still be there with her anyway. Just as Aidan stopped in front of him, Jason also fell short and immediately spied the small scene of people gathered around Emilia's doubled over form. Her hand on her abdomen immediately had his mind racing toward the twins. Unfortunately Aidan had already seen and they were racing toward the inevitable revealation he had been dreading all night. Slipping through the crowd and on the opposite side of where Aidan stood, Jason crouched down to place a gentle hand on Emi's back, "Are you okay...? Is it the..." He glanced up and around them, words falling short. "Come on... let's get you to the restroom." |
