“Then I owe you a favour, brother. At the very least, let me be content with that.” It wasn't like he could tell the other man 'no', not without possibly pushing him to find some other way to make himself feel better. Personally, Keiji didn't think Masaru needed to repay anything. Even if the vampire had been there with them or not wouldn't have changed things. If anything it might just have made them worse. Hubris was what had caused the disaster in the first place and adding more security...who knows how reckless he would have been? Promising a favor to the fae, much less Sidhe, was a dangerous thing. Eye the color of slate and sky blinked at Masaru for a moment, weighing possibilities and simply paying attention to someone he hadn't seen for ages. After a moment he offered a small nod, the side of his face rubbing against the warmth of his brother. "A favor then." A yawn blindsided him, sneaking up on silent little feet and running through him to leave a soft shudder in its wake. "We have made our home away from the city." The home was a little more secluded than Keiji would have chosen, but it wasn't like it would kill him. Not that he disliked it. Admittedly even he needed a break sometimes; from the iron that was woven through the city's very heart, from the press of so many people, and from the constant changing that never seemed to let the people just...be. While things we no less hectic in their own way out in nature, it was at least at a slightly slower pace. And shit, outside of all that, there was a pretty good reason that privacy was paramount. Wouldn't really do to have surprise visitors, not given their ... habits. "I would not let go of you now that I know you are alive, you will see us often. Would you like to go there now?" "Mm. And I can make some din-osh, guess I can't. Or can. Just wouldn't make sense." That's right. Make dinner. A nice awesome dinner that Masaru would be able to smell but not eat. That's an awesome way to entertain a friend you haven't seen in forever. Fingers cut through his hair again, twisting through the strands that were just getting long enough to grasp, as if the gesture would help tug back the centeredness he had just left. Forearms came to rest against his knees, eyes looking at the newly revived grass as his brother's words tumbled through his head. While he had know his brother held an attraction for their 'adopted' brother, he had never mentioned it nor asked. Last they had seen Masaru, that had been Kaede's business and he was content to leave it well enough alone. Besides, it wasn't like he would have been able to do anything about it then either. Of course, now on the other hand...things had changed. His attention lifted to Kaede for a moment before slowly sliding to Masaru, wheels and cogs whirling in his mind. A soft smile lit his face. "I can show you what I've been working on with the koto." |

The Sorrow Eater ~ Vampire Council Member

"A favor then." Masaru nodded, watching Keiji rub his face against Kaede's leg, much like a kitten would. There had never been such a unconditional connection for Masaru in all of his relationships, except perhaps, for Vale. But even with Vale, there was very rarely a time where they were peaceful with each other; understanding instead of spiteful. The thought of them being anything like Keiji and Kaede was laughable. Still, he envied that closeness his brothers were able to share. It was of no surprise to learn that they lived away from the city. Masaru would have happily lived far away from all the noise had his status and reputation not been that of the council. It was too troublesome for him to stay far away when the council met every night. “I hope we are able to.” Masaru replied, already knowing that his schedule would not allow for him to see them as often as he would like. There were far and few nights that he was able to have time for himself, let alone others. Time to himself was not truly for himself – it was spent on plans, contracts. Business deals. Still, seeing the twins would certainly be beneficial to him. One relaxing moment was enough, and truly he could only act himself with them. "Would you like to go there now?" “If you would have me.” Masaru replied – he would be more then happy to visit the twins place of residence. The night was ever watchful, every listening. For any of them to be caught in a moment of relaxation, a moment of weakness was to be condemned. Privacy was something Masaru valued, and was perhaps the reason why he liked the Ossuary so much. No human, lycanthorpe or even vampire would ever trespass his quarters without taxing results. Even the council was respectful of each other for the most part. A soft melody of laughter filled the air when Keiji suggested that he may make dinner. It would not be the first time the issue of Masaru's tastes were forgotton. It had been a long time since he had been human. If he invited Yukie, he could sample the flavors of the food as if he were eating, however he did not want to invite her out with the twins yet. Perhaps on a separate occasion he would savor the delights of Keiji's cooking. “It is still a pleasure for me to watch others cook. The smells of such delights are not lost on me.” He offered. “I have not seen proper traditional cooking done in a long time...it would be an honor to watch you cook once more.” He walked closer to his brothers as Keiji spoke of the koto. Masaru had not given up playing the instrument either, though he personally believed that he had no talent in playing it. His skills had never quite matched those of Keiji or Kaede despite the years of practice he had put into playing it. There was a passion that came with playing it that Masaru simply did not have – his life had never been filled with true joy, and thus his music always sounded painful, like it was filled with despair. “You are to take us there, Kaede?” Masaru stated, before wrapping an arm tightly around the fae – the other hand resting on Keiji's ruffled. Last time Kaede had attempted to take them somewhere, he had needed physical contact to move them all at the same time. It had been a long time ago, however habits were hard to beat. Fingers laced around Kaede's shirt, Masaru smiled. “Like old times.” |

“If you would have me.” "We would be greatly honored to have you visit our home, Masaru." He offered softly, turning away from both brothers then to face the tree. Weeping, it's blossoms fluttered to the ground every so often, as if it too had known it was time to say goodbye to it's creator. A few steps were all that was needed to close the gap, his hand reached out to settle on it's trunk. Beneath his palm, he could feel it's spirit just beneath the layers of wood, like a heart beat. A tilt of his head, and his eyes became flooded with the floral canopy. "Thank you." It seemed most appropriate to thank that which had helped to bring them together, and watched over their reunion in silence. An entire day had been spent within the city's limits, it was time to finally return to the home they had made for themselves, and to do that they must part ways. Stepping back from the cherry tree, his hand fell back to his side as he respectfully bowed to it for the last time. "Mm. And I can make some din-osh, guess I can't. Or can. Just wouldn't make sense." He had opened his eyes only to roll them as once again peaceful silence had been broken by none other than his brother. It took everything he had not to give into the urge to sigh heavily. Instead, he turned away from the tree, and returned to the others with a, "Keiji, kill it." to stop his brother from speaking further. “It is still a pleasure for me to watch others cook. The smells of such delights are not lost on me. I have not seen proper traditional cooking done in a long time...it would be an honor to watch you cook once more.” So many years might have passed between them all, yet they had all managed to stay with the exception of Keiji the same. Masaru was still the better man, he had remembered from the past, the man Kaede hoped to one day become. It was evident enough on how he had handled the situation just now. Where Masaru had shown kindness, Kaede continued to show nothing more than cool indifference, giving him purpose if only to not have to listen to the ramble, that was sure to follow. “You are to take us there, Kaede?” He had offered only a brief nod before answering, "As soon as Keiji is finished, I will bring us all there." Turning his head back in the direction of Keiji, he opened his mouth to speak, only to find himself without the voice he had moments ago. It was not the sight of the tree now gone, that had silenced him so completely but Masaru's arm that had gone around him. It was intoxicating, to have him so near, and yet so very far away from him still. With his own body this close to Masaru, it had caused him to pause, to drink it all in, from the way the other man's body fit beside his own, to the way his fingers found a hold of his shirt. "Keiji. Come." He had finally managed to say before offering out his hand for his brother to take. When fingers were laced together, he turned his head to the sky. Winter skies, met evening stars and rippled beneath their heavenly weight, leaving only the eyes of the Sidhe in it's wake. The air had become thicker in that time, as moisture hung like a heavy blanket around them. Barely visable were the bodies now beside him, but he would know even their shadows in the most crowded of rooms. He leaned in close to Masaru and offered, "Do not let go." One step was all that was needed, and the mist parted for it's master, slowly creeping back where it had come from. What had once been a park in Paris, was now a silent garden, with stepping stones and ponds leading to a silent home that waited for it's people to return for the evening. If one did not search too far past the trees that nestled around, one might very well believe this was the country they had loved so much. |
