The City of Paris, grand in the sunlit hours, but magnificent under the star-clad moonlit night sky. It was such a night this evening, though a chill wind swept across the city off of the Seine River and the streets weren’t nearly as crowded as they normally were. One particular driver was relishing the diminished body count; a black streak through the city roaring out like a lion or some other big cat. Inside the car, perfectly at ease even as the speedometer pushed well over three hundred kilometers per hour, was one of the denizens of the night. He was a vampire, eternally bound to the world, appearing to all as if he were in his late teens, though in reality he had over twelve centuries tallied spent on earth. But that hardly mattered for the moment, the black streak suddenly squealing in protest as the Porsche slowed, fish-tailing around a bend in the road momentarily and then continued on. Gradually the vehicle slowed to a near agonizing crawl of a hundred and thirty kilometers per hour. Slow, but necessary as he was closing in on his destination for the early part of this evening. Two more bends and Nathan slowed the car to a literal crawl before stopping completely. Turning the keys in the ignition, the purring engine cut off, leaving only a piano piece playing through the vehicles sound system. He looked around, the Arc de Triomphe oddly devoid of any living visitors. A brief grin crossed his features. This would work out better than he had though. Removing the keys from the ignition, the vampire then slid easily from the sports car, a double trill sounding as the door’s locks and alarm system were activated. Nathan took a deep breath, scenting the area briefly before taking a more thorough look with crimson –tinted eyes. Heightened senses and mystically enhanced sight also detected no living creatures bigger than your typical bird or rat. Walking away from the Porsche, Nathan began humming quietly to himself, contemplating the real reason he was here at this location. It was fairly open, thus making it extremely difficult for an angered person to sneak up on him. It was to be noted that he did believe that if anyone came, they would be angry. He himself would be were the situation reversed, and he was being forced to go somewhere without understanding why. The vampire’s image shimmered faintly and then vanished from where he had been walking. It reappeared again halfway up the monument before vanishing and reappearing again at the top. In position, Nathan looked out over the city. If rumor were true, there were some felines in the city that Nathan was fairly partial to. So partial in fact, that he had the ability to call out and draw them to him. Another instant later, his restraints dropped, and the metaphysical net was cast as far as it could be. Another moment, and that net would be drawn in slowly. The Call for the Cougars of Paris had been sent out, the vampire now just needed to wait and see whether rumor was fact or fiction. |

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs
|
As if life wasn’t difficult enough with everything else going on... but something like this had to occur as well. For once the doctor was actually able to get the night off and begin to head home at a decent hour – something she’d missed doing for a long time. She’d been missing spending time with the girls before bed, not to mention simple things like just chilling out on the veranda and watching the reflection of the sliver of a moon rippling in the lake while curled up next to Jason and chatting idly one they were asleep. In fact, that had been the entirety of her plans for the night, which were now shot down in light of something new that had cropped up. The cougar had been driving through the city, heading toward the outskirts, when she’d felt it and pulled over immediately in unexpected shock. It was as if something was tugging slightly at her beast, and the very feeling of it to the sensitive woman pulled at her anger. She’d never felt it before, but if she had to ponder a guess then the only conclusions she could come up with didn’t make her happy, not in the slightest. And if she felt it... then that meant the rest of the cougars could. A concept the Reinha especially didn’t like the idea of. The alphas would be able to resist it... but those who weren’t? Within a couple of minutes of the feeling having begun, Emi gritted her teeth as she put the car back into gear and turned around – all the while, willing the call not to affect the rest of the Stalk. She even pulled on her own strong psychic abilities in order to strengthen her desire to block the call from the cougars that were under her protection. She wasn’t sure how, but she knew that what she was doing would allow them to ignore the call. Hopefully they would click on and not attempt to seek the source – if they were smart they’d know not to. Emilia knew that even she should just leave it – let whoever it was be disappointed that they couldn’t receive a bunch of kitties – but there was always the chance that they might attempt other methods, and it would be best to nip this nuisance in the bud as soon as possible. The problem lay in not knowing... not knowing if whoever it was knew there was more than one cougar in the city, or that there were any at all... and of course there was always the possibility that it was the one Ange had warned her about. The idea of that darkened Emi’s mood further, remembering the warning from her friend about the type of character her ‘master’ was, and as Emi tracked the origin of the feeling toward the Arc de Triomphe of all places, she reached under her seat to pull out the gun she kept taped under there, loaded with explosive silver-lead rounds and an extra couple of clips. If the vampire was at least civilised it might not be necessary – but she wasn’t taking chances. She also keyed in a quick message to Jason before she pulled up near the large structure, though she didn’t step out of the Pontiac. Instead, she cast out very subtly to brush against the mind of the one who was sending out the ‘call’, and her gaze shot straight toward the source atop the monument, while she pushed open the door and swung her legs out, but remained seated with the gun tucked beside her. Instantly, she shielded her aura, preferring to keep her strength secret for the moment while she waited. The hell if she was going to get out and greet someone who thought they’d play smartass... he could just come to her if he wanted something. There was obviously a reason behind what he’d done. |

Enough time had passed that Nathan was just about to give up. The rumors appeared to be completely false by all accounts of what he had seen thus far. This disheartened the vampire some; Nathan always preferred the rumors to be true than false. If they were false, then that meant someone somewhere had gotten their facts crossed, which meant that the vampire was wasting his time. He was just releasing his grasp of the metaphysical ‘net’ he had cast when a car pulled up close to his own. His curiosity piqued as he examined the car a little further. The color wasn’t what he would have chosen, though it was very flashy in a good way. He was a bit surprised as well though. You didn’t often see one of the original American made muscle cars in Paris, much less driven by a woman, as he glanced up from the car to look through the windshield. Then again, he assumed she was a werecougar just by her being here now, in this instant and not somewhere else. When she moved to get out of the vehicle, or at least partially get out of the vehicle, Nathan released the ‘net’ altogether, the call fading away to nothingness. Crimson eyes watched her careful, curious about the newcomer and her car. But when she made no move to get out of the car, the vampire’s eyes narrowed, trying to get a feel for what she was feeling, but strangely all he got off of her was a strange neutral-ness. It wasn’t so much she wasn’t feeling anything, it was more that it seemed like there was nothing there to feel. Curious. Looking back around, Nathan saw no other vehicles or people coming closer by foot. Stepping off of the Arc, his coat trailing over his head as the wind picked it up while he fell, he seemed to just vanish. In that same moment, he was then standing on the ground, walking slowly towards the big purple car and its driver. Again he vanished, seeming to melt away with his next step before just being beside his own car, slightly behind and to the side of the purple muscle car. The entire time, his eyes would have never left the female driver. The oddness that was her lack of see-able personality, emotion, aura confused Nathan slightly. There weren’t many that went to such lengths to hide themselves. Most of the time being a null made you much more obvious than just blending in. Maybe his call was part of the reason. He instantly knew that had their situations been reversed, he would not have liked the situation any better. Perhaps an apology was in order. Needlessly clearing his throat, Nathan spoke up then. “I’m regretfully sorry I brought you all the way here with that method. It was terribly rude of me. If it helps to ease any tension, I only did that to prove or disprove a rumor that you and yours were in the area. I did not intend it to be anything more than that.” Playing his hand open seemed to be the wisest course of action at the moment, and until proven otherwise, would continue to do so. |

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs
|
The cougar was there only moments while the pair seemed to study each other from a distance, before she felt the sensation of the ‘call’ slip away and inwardly relaxed a little as she was able to drop the ‘block’ she’d put up to protect the others. However, she wasn’t going to move from her car, especially since she would rather her weapon remain hidden for the time being until she could find out whether this presence proved to be a threat or not. The more maternal instincts of her beast said not to wait, but to strike first – but the knowledge that came from years on the streets knew that keeping ones’ cards hidden was the best way to gain the upper hand. Luckily for her, she a few aces tucked away. Watching the vampire, she kept all her senses sharpened – including the one that was unique to her – and her eyes narrowed just slightly as he dropped from the monument, only to vanish in the air before reappearing at the bottom. Immediately, she focussed more on her extra gift rather than other enhanced senses, and as he vanished again, her eyes immediately darted to his car the same moment that he reappeared. It would seem like she’d never taken her eyes off him either, as they scrutinised one another and she continued to remain shielded and expressionless. The vampire, who looked like he obviously hadn’t made it past his teens before he’d been turned, cleared his through before he began to speak, and she listened intently, “I’m regretfully sorry I brought you all the way here with that method. It was terribly rude of me. If it helps to ease any tension, I only did that to prove or disprove a rumor that you and yours were in the area. I did not intend it to be anything more than that.” An apology? It had almost received a raised eyebrow from the woman, but she still didn’t trust that there wasn’t some ulterior motive for wanting to cast a net over Paris in order to drag any cougars across. Considering she’d never had to worry about a vampire who could call her species before, this was a first and she didn’t like it. Though, there was one thing she at least knew now. “You are not the one I was warned about,” The blonde’s French-accented voice spoke clearly, though not conveying whether for was happy or otherwise about the fact. However, the lack of lion scent and his mannerisms suggested this was certainly not Angelica’s ‘master’. “Well, now you know that I am in the area,” She wasn’t going to mention anything about there being others right now, preferring to keep this as well contained as she could until she knew what had to be done or if anything even did have to be, “But what I am curious about is what you intended to do once the call was answered. I hardly believe one would attempt to call lycanthropes out of pure curiosity alone, and then leave it there.” The cougar crossed her legs as she leaned in the doorway of her car, still seated and concealing her weapon, while she raised a questioning eyebrow at the vampire, “So what else did you hope to accomplish by giving me reason to come here?” |

He was impressed by her ability to follow him even when he was able to travel distances in an instant that could not be traversed normally. Was she always that aware, or was it something she had to focus on? Maybe it tied into whatever she was doing to conceal her aura; everything had an aura, there was hardly anything that gave off the neutrality that she was giving off. Humans never gave that off, lycanthropes and vampires included, unless they were using some technological device or had some control over their own aura. He was betting the latter incident in her case, most lycanthropes didn’t use advanced technology like that on a daily basis. ”You are not the one I was warned about.” His expression remained passively neutral. What did that mean exactly? Someone had warned her about a vampire with his Call already? But apparently he wasn’t the only one who could send out a mass call for cougars. Disappointing really, they were a fairly rare breed of lycanthrope, and he had assumed the ability to call them would be just as rare. Such was that case with wolves and rats, and the vampires who could call them were numerous. “I hope that my not being who you were warned about can be considered a good thing.” He pushed off of his car, taking a few random steps in a partial circle, his eyes still not leaving the blonde woman sitting in her car. “Well…,” Nathan paused for a moment, gloved hands sliding easily into his coat pockets, “…I hadn’t really thought of it. Honestly I didn’t expect the rumors to be true, but as I am fairly new to the area, and intend to stay for a while, I thought I might as well find out if any of you were out and about Paris.” Nathan let out a sigh then, and moved humanly slow towards her car. “It was then my intention of introducing myself to who, if anyone, actually showed up.” He grinned a little then, stopping halfway between their cars. “And I believe you underestimate my curiosity. But then I imagine everything you have previously known or heard hasn’t painted me or mine in a very bright light. While I can’t argue the point, as some of us can be very nasty creatures, I can also say that not everyone is the same. Don’t judge a book of short stories by the cover and just one or two stories.” “As stated a moment ago, I’m just here for simple introductions, and to offer assistance with anything I might be able to assist with. Perhaps also hoping that such an offer might be offered in return.” The grin had faded by now, the mask of neutrality back when he didn’t force himself to show some sort of emotion. “Before you ask or get defensive, I’m not asking for sustenance. I’m rather unique among my kind, and when I do need to partake of sustenance, I have no problem attaining such.” Nathan paused again, eyes narrowing a fraction as his head tilted a little. “Though by all accounts, I don’t believe I gave you any reason to come here. Experience tells me that had you truly been under the full sway of my Call, that we would be over by the Arc at this moment and not here at our vehicles speaking like civilized persons.” She apparently had much to hide and somehow he felt that her aura was one of the more minor aspects of what she was hiding. He wouldn’t pry, but he wished she wouldn’t assume him daft either. |

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs

“I hope that my not being who you were warned about can be considered a good thing.” “That depends really, on how you view my kind in comparison to yours,” It was perhaps the ultimate deal breaker as far as Emilia was concerned. She didn’t trust vampires on a whole nor did she feel very comfortable around them, even the ones with best intentions still used trickery and manipulation. But whether one could simply be avoided if necessary or had to be put down depended on whether they thought lycanthropes could be treated as ‘lesser’ or servants simply because they could call their beast. As biased as she might be against vampires, as least she didn’t believe them inferior. The same couldn’t exactly be said the other way around the majority of the time. The fact that he didn’t even know what he’d planned to do after summoning his animal to call sounded almost more like it was just a game. He had something he could do, so he did it just for the hell of it? She didn’t really believe that, but at the same time it that were the case, then it sounded rather immature. “Well those you call are not simply toys to be pulled in just because you can and have an urge to test out a theory. I am currently already not amused obviously, but I would have been outright angered if I had been forced here while in the middle of work, or on a date or something else personal.” She knew he realised she could have ignored it, and wasn’t going to assume him stupid enough to think otherwise. In the back of her mind she realised she sounded like a parent reprimanding a child – perhaps it was the fact that he seemed to be almost as curious as one as he watched her, not to mention the age he was obviously stuck at. The mention of exchanging offers almost pulled a frown to her neutral expression, until he continued on to say that he didn’t mean sustenance. That would have received an outright ‘no’ from the blonde. Still, she wasn't about to discuss any kind of 'deals'. A single eyebrow raised though as a small smirk settled on her features without reaching her eyes, “But you did give me reason to come here. I have lived in Paris half my life and in all my time as a feline lycanthrope not once has there been anyone here who can call my particular species. You do not believe that requires investigation? Had I still ignored you, how would I know that you did not already have information on me and would find another – more threatening – way to approach me? I may be young but I have seen more than most people twice my age and do not like to take those chances. Knowledge is power, after all, oui?” Who knew how old this vampire was – old enough to be a master at least, and from information that she’d ever been able to gather that took at least a few hundred years. Hell, he could be over a thousand for all she knew, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to pull him up on one very important detail, “However, you have stated a couple of times now that you wish to introduce yourself – and yet have not given your name as manners would dictate you should as the one who has given the invite.” “So by all means,” Emi made a graceful gesture for him to go ahead, “Please do.” Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Feb 22 2009, 05:08 PM.

“We each have our strengths and weaknesses. Some of your strengths, for instance, I envy. What it must feel like to tap into one of the most primal forces known to man. Sure it gives you strength, speed, agility, but I have all of that as well. But you have a direct connection to the wild that I can’t ever come close to. But then being forced to shift once a month, needing to learn the control when emotions run high or else have the animal within literally burst from your skin…I hardly envy that. I believe that our species are fairly equal, all things considered, don’t you?” Nathan took her rebuke in stride, though any humor he might have felt was gone. “I hardly think of those I call as toys, I assure you. But perhaps you could give me a better time of day to test out my theory next time? Perhaps next time I could try it out in the early afternoon, when it’s most assured you will be either working or on some personal errand, hmm? Would that suit you better?” Part of his annoyance came from the fact she spoke to him like an errant child, and the other part came from him not being able to read her. At least psychically that is. He could tell she was annoyed, bordering on anger at being called to the Arc. And part of him understood why as she explained this apparent unprecedented event. He couldn’t agree with her more though on her estimation of knowledge being power. How true Nathan knew that to be. It pulled a faint laugh from him, the corners of his mouth rose in an involuntary half smile half grin. “I could argue the other way as well, but you couldn’t have known, making arguing about it a moot point. I still honestly didn’t believe there would be any of your kind here however. My only experience with them had been halfway across the world in the Americas, until now that is.” “Is my name that important to you? I thought speaking and getting to know a few details about one another would be infinitely more useful than a name.” Nathan shook his head, eyes sparkling with amusement. “Which name would you like? Would you like my name as it is now, my birth name? The name I used in the fifteenth century? Or even the one I had in ten-ninety-five?” Nathan frowned at the last date he mentioned, his eyes turning away from the blonde woman. The Crusades were a hectic time and every day had been a challenge. “Nathan, Nathan Baxton…,” his voice wasn’t exactly there however, his name hardly above a whisper when he spoke it. And then in another instant he pulled himself from the whims of time, eyes narrowed slightly as he looked back up towards the werecougar. His eyes were a bright ruby color now, compared to moments ago when they were barely crimson. Yet despite the ‘power boost’ to his second sight, the woman remained stubbornly neutral. |

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs

Despite the fact that she’d been aggravated to be called, Emi could at least take comfort in the fact that this vampire hadn’t simply attempted to control or roll her. Then again, she didn’t really want to have to let all her secrets loose yet and that would probably happen if they realised she didn’t fall to vampire tricks – something that had been discovered back when she was a teenager still. One of the few upsides of having her gifts she supposed. She listened to him list the pros and cons of her kind and nodded at his final answer to her question, “I quite agree...” The cougar couldn’t help but spare a smirk at the response to her small chastising of the vampire though and raised her brows slightly as he suggested better times to send out a call, “You should know well enough that just as many work at night as during the day in a city like this. In fact, I had only just knocked off my shift when I felt it. You could try early afternoon, but I might be napping.” Knowing she’d got under his skin a little amused the woman inwardly just slightly. When a small laugh erupted from the vampire, Emi was a little surprised, but amused – at least it seemed he wasn’t going to underestimate her, though that wasn’t always a good thing per say. But knowledge was power, and she’d rather have risked a lone trip to know what she was dealing with than to ignore it and continue to wonder, “Until a couple of weeks ago, I had never been concerned about whether a vampire could ‘call’ me,” Emi shrugged casually, before stretching her legs out in front of her, then crossing them, “But times change, there is always some surprise or another around the bend.” “And what better place to begin than a name – I am sure you certainly would not want me referring to you by any of the usual names your kind get called,” Emilia raised an amused eyebrow – though she studied his change in demeanour at the mention of specific years. The offering of that information gave the woman insight into his age, my he certainly had a few years up his sleeve. Emi smirked at the name he offered though, “That is not your true name for certain, but no doubt it is true enough in the sense that it is what you prefer to use in modern times.” Emi then watched as his gaze returned to her, and saw the change in his eyes as they narrowed. For a moment she was curious just what he was up to, but then realised and a sly grin spread itself over her features, “Emily... And you can try all night, but you are not going to pick anything up from me unless I want you to.” She tilted her head slightly at him, amusement set in her eyes a little, “Does that really bother you so much?” |

“Most definitely. In a way it is like you are a little blank spot in the world. Useful in situations such as this I suppose. Not so much if you were trying to hide. It’s quite noticeable when there’s a human shaped void.” His eyes un-narrowed, but their color did not change in the slightest. “It is slightly disorienting as well. I can see you sitting there, but it is like you’re dead. Even zombies give off something.” He frowned slightly, eyes looking up toward the star-lit night, the moon partially visible. His own aura wasn’t concealed as hers was, though his mind was usually locked just as tight. He didn’t like people invading his personal thoughts; if he wanted them to know what he was thinking, he would tell them. Turning back to look at her, his frown turned slightly puzzled. “Besides my asking this, how did you know I have been trying to read you? It is not an ability well known among my kind, being one of those gifts that usually go away once we are no longer human.” He was about to add more when his phone rang. Blinking once, Nathan reached into his coats inside pocket, retrieving his phone, and flipping it open after a quick look at the number. “Hello Andrew, it is a pleasure hearing from you, as always. Oh yes, everything is working out quite well thus far. The test actually did produce a result. I’m speaking with her now. She is rather…interesting.” He was looking at Emily while speaking this, mild amusement in his eyes. “I doubt that would be possible at the current time Andrew, but I shall extend the invitation. Uh huh, I appreciate the call. I will see you soon. Bye.” Snapping the phone shut and sliding it back into his inner coat pocket, Nathan offered Emily an apologetic smile. “That was the caretaker. He was just checking in with me to see how the evening’s events were going. He has been with me for almost twenty years now. Very sweet old man, very sharp though. But enough of that.” He was focused upon her totally once more, his head tilting slightly with a curious expression. “Can you keep that up indefinitely, or is it something you have to concentrate on?” That being the shield she somehow had been keeping up since they had seen one another. |

Ulfric // Emi's Beau
|
It took a considerable amount of self control to not drive like a complete and utter maniac through the countryside of France and when entering the city of Paris. There were two children in the vehicle after all. Something that Jason was reminded of each time he took a sharp curve and heard a squeak from Nina who was sitting between himself and Elena. Naturally they were all strapped in but that did not make the ride any less bumpy for the two young cougars. Meanwhile a multitude of scenarios were going through the werewolf's mind. Emily was not answering her phone and he had left two voice messages already. The ten minute wait that he forced himself to take between calls had been excrutiating. It had only been when Nina elaborated further that her mother was shielding herself that Jason had become even more worried. The strange feeling that Nina described was familiar to Jason though he had been reluctant to want to even think that a vampire that could call cougars was in Paris. But when the young cougar and psychic stated that Emily was shielding herself, Jason knew that he could not sit idly and wait. Despite it having been over a week since the Festival, the fortune he had received from Delphi still surfaced from time to time and one of those times was now. Even though he had come to the conclusion that the death card had represented the change in their relationship, there was still the loss and the foretold brush with the other side that plagued the werewolf. With a grimace etched on his face, he directed the clunky Blazer through the streets of Paris. He would have left Elena and Nina at the cougar house with Marcy but unfortunately Jason had no clue where Emily was. So he needed Nina's gift to be able to track down the blonde. A decision that he had made with some reluctance, afraid to drag the children into the crossfire. At least they had a direction as Nina finally began to sense her mother to give Jason some idea of where to go. Before long, the Arc de Triomphe loomed in front of him. The Blazer came to a stop a fair distance from the monument and out of sight from anyone who might have been underneath it. "Okay girls... I want you both to stay here, got it?" Jason was already getting out as he gave them both instructions. From under his seat he withdrew two clips of silver ammo and dropped them on the seat while he pulled out his Desert Eagle and let the lead clip fall out before it was replaced. Reaching behind him, he tucked the gun in his pants pocket, "Keep the doors locked and don't get out for anyone but me or Emi, okay?" Leaning in, he gave Nina a kiss on the forehead, "You know how to get ahold of me, kiddo." If it made her feel better to keep an open 'channel' between them then Jason was perfectly fine with that. Looking to Elena he nodded to her, "Keep an eye on Nina and don't go anywhere. I'll be back in a few minutes." With that he locked the doors before shutting the door. He spared a glance back to them before he headed off in a jog toward the Arc. Unsure of what to expect, he moved cautiously, keeping his back against the nearby buildings and utilizing the shadows as best as he could though streetlamps littered the area. Soon enough Emi's familiar car, her baby, came into view and he could see her blonde head from his vantage point. Though his gaze quickly shifted to the man that was standing there and Jason's nostrils flared to take in the scent. 'Fucking vampires...' His mental voice growled before he began to move forward once more. This time he was not concerned about being not being seen as he reached behind his back to withdraw the gun and bring it up to eye level. His sights set on the vampire's head. "Emi! Are you alright?" He shouted while still training on the vampire, his index finger resting against the trigger. Edited by Jason Young, Feb 23 2009, 07:04 PM.

“Well obviously I am not trying to hide,” Emi smiled slyly as she tilted her head at Nathan, “At least my presence anyway...” Naturally she was hiding a few things that she would rather keep to herself at the moment. It was possible he would take a much deeper interest in her if he was aware of just how strong she was, along with those extra gifts of hers, and she still wasn’t convinced that would be a good thing at all. At the question of how she knew what he was doing, the cougar shrugged lightly, “I have spent much of my life studying others myself. And it is obvious that you have managed to find a way to use magic despite no long being completely part of nature yourself anymore, from the teleportation you used... and because I can feel it in your aura.” The smirk became more of a light smile for a moment as she thought back on a time passed, “My sister studied wicca and magics, I have a little experience with it.” “And since you already admitted to being curious, I assume you would want to know what you are dealing with...” Emi trailed off as a phone began to ring, which reminded her to check her own for a moment while only half-listening to Nathan while he spoke to whoever was there. She’d put hers on silent, but realised she had two voice messages, and by the time she was checking the second one, inwardly cringing, Nathan had finished and she glanced at him while he explained who he’d been talking to. The question of whether she could keep up her shield earned another small smirk, “After years of practise? I could go to sleep and still keep it up out of instinct alone if I needed to.” Playing with her phone though, she decided she should try and diffuse a situation before it occurred and held up a finger, “I will just be a moment though, I have to make a quick call.” Emi was already dialling and had the phone to her ear before she felt something on the edge of her senses – Nina’s aura stood out just faintly in the area around them, and Emi’s eyes widened considerably at what that could mean before she stood from the car, her hidden hand revealing the gun she’d had concealed beside her in the car as her head spun in the direction instinctively... right as she realised someone else had arrived. "Emi! Are you alright?" The sight of Jason with his gun raised at the vampire immediately had Emilia on edge: a) because it meant he’d brought the girls there, but obviously left them alone somewhere, and b) because what was currently a simple meeting could turn into something disasterous. Immediately, she dropped just a fraction of her shields so she could cast out and make sure they were fine – even if it meant giving a tiny part of herself away – while she glared at Jason for bringing Nina close enough for her gift to be picked up since the girl still hadn’t learned how to shield herself, “Put the gun down, Jason. Don’t you think I’d already be using mine if I wasn’t okay?” The cougar was already storming her way toward the wolf, clearly unhappy and clutching the gun and phone in each hand as her voice lowered, “What the hell are you doing here? With the girls? I was about to call you back, but I would have contacted you at the first sign of trouble.” She was mildly frustrated, even if she knew he was there because he was worried – mostly her irritation came from the girls being so close, yet unguarded as well. Being in a locked car didn’t mean they were safe from the kinds of beasties that roamed Paris at night. Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Feb 24 2009, 12:32 PM.

Elena had hardly argued when Jason had ordered them to get their coats, despite the fact that she wasn't too keen on being drug out of their nice warm house and into Jason's old bumpy car to traverse the streets of Paris looking for Emily, even thought she was worried about the woman. More then once on the ride she had to brace herself, hanging onto the door handle to keep from tumbling over onto Nina, which earned Jason a glare or two. Another thing she wasn't happy about was the all-too-familiar streets they went roaring down, the glimpses of faces of the prostitutes that scrambled out of the way ones she knew...and didn't know. Too many she didn't know. Shaking her head, the girl took to staring at her fingers, clasped in her lap. She didn't want to think about the life she'd had before Emily'd bailed her out of the jail. Before long, the blazer came to a stop, making the brunette jerk forward. Leaning over Nina to glare at the man, her anger faded as she watched him pull out the gun and the clips. Apprehension set in as she nodded, watching as he kissed Nina and shut the door. Pushing the lock button, the young cougar leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees as she watched the man run away. There was a small part of her that was jealous of that. Elena had never had a family, and, while it hadn't bothered her much before, the longer she was with Jason and Emily and Nina, the more she felt...left out. Elena sighed, looking down at Nina. Taking her seatbelt off, she turned so she was sitting sideways, holding out her hands to Nina. "C'mon, munchkin, while Jason's off playing hero let's play a game." |

He nodded at her comment. He knew very well how just a few years of practice could make something more than what it started as. Personal protection was among the first that most decided to learn, study, and practice until it was almost instinctual. What good were the others if you couldn’t protect yourself against even the most rudimentary attack? He chuckled slightly. “I always want to know what I am dealing with. As you so aptly put it, knowledge is power, even the tiniest scrap of knowledge, regardless of how inconsequential it may seem.” He waited quietly, perfectly still, quite like a statue in that regard. At the same instant she did, Nathan’s head tilted ever so slightly, his eyes shifting just enough to get a glimpse of the man behind him with the gun trained directly at the back of his head. Emotion fled then, the first thought going through his mind was that somehow they had found out what he had been planning on doing tonight. Found out, and plotted to take him down for some reason. Any sense of amusement, joviality, or even curiosity was gone in an instant, replaced instead by a deathly calm, emotionless mask. Within the two seconds it took for the new arrival to shout out to Emily if she were alright, Nathan had already thought of and discarded five plans on how to dispatch the man. Two things stayed his hand from enacting the sixth plan. The first was Emily did the unexpected. For a few brief moments, her aura was visible, the raw power of nature unleashed as she reached out past the man with the gun and beyond. Mentally he tracked the feel of it, the heat and warmth as it sought out and found another similar to it. The second reason was her words to the man, Jason, telling him to lower the gun. Turning around as Emily strode past him towards Jason, Nathan followed behind her, quiet as a ghost. “Heh.” Nathan’s eyes locked onto the man’s face, not at all surprised that he wouldn’t meet the vampire’s eyes. So many people knew to avoid that, but it wasn’t meant to be a weapon, though many used it as such. Nathan preferred it as a last defense. When someone was inches from you, the eyes were suddenly much more dangerous. A faint smirk at the man before Nathan’s form wavered, fading in color and solidity before vanishing. He appeared down the street from the pair, each foot fall there but not making a noise before the strange afterimage happened, and the vampire was gone again. He appeared standing before the green Blazer, bright ruby eyes looking intently through the Windshield at the two young female occupants. He could tell instantly what they were, and even that the younger one appeared rather gifted beyond just her odd lycanthropic state. Very strange to see a child that young afflicted with such a condition. “Good evening ladies. I ask you not to panic, no one here tonight has been, nor will they be harmed in any way.” |

With his gun trained on the vampire, Jason's eyes focused on the creature's forehead. He knew not to meet the eyes. He would have not been a very good Executioner if he did not after all. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the blonde rise from where she was seated and he felt a bit of relief to know that she was alright. The sensation that Nina had described meant that the call for cougars had been put out and he was not sure what to expect in the vampire that possessed the ability. “Put the gun down, Jason. Don’t you think I’d already be using mine if I wasn’t okay?” The point was that he had no idea. No contact at all aside from the message to look after the girls. There was no way he could sit idly by and wait. Not when he knew that danger lurked for the young mother and his girlfriend. However, with some reluctance he lowered the weapon to his side. A glance to her and Jason could see the unpleasantness evident on her face. “What the hell are you doing here? With the girls? I was about to call you back, but I would have contacted you at the first sign of trouble.” The frustration and irritation in her voice pulled his full attention to her, taking his eyes off of Nathan. "How was I suppose to know?" With his voice just as low he looked right back into her glaring eyes. This was an issue Jason was not going to back down on, "I get a message to look after the girls with no details and Nina and Elena talking about feeling strange and that you're shielding? What did you expect me to do? I'm sorry I brought them but I needed some way of finding you..." Bringing the girls was an issue that even he had not been pleased with. But he had no way of finding Emily without having some form of communication with her and unfortunately for him he did not share the same gifts that Emi and Nina had, "There was no way for me to know that you'd be able to get in touch with me anyway... not when they are concerned" He went to gesture toward the vampire, only to find that he had disappeared. "Wh-where..." The question was left unasked as Jason twisted around, "Shit!" Taking off at a dead run, Jason's boots hit the pavement as he rushed back to where the girls were located. With no idea where the vampire would be, he immediately feared for their safety -- knowing that Emi would be at his heels. He prayed that nothing happened to them and for the vampire's sake, he did not touch them. "HEY!" The gun was brought up a second time as he came upon the parked Blazer and the vampire that now stood there. If there was one thing that Jason had learned, it was this vampire was extremely fast. Faster than most other vampires he had encountered, "Get the fuck away from the car, NOW!" |

"How was I suppose to know?" Jason’s voice lowered as well as he regarded Emilia’s obvious displeasure at the situation while she approached him, very aware of the presence following behind her, "I get a message to look after the girls with no details and Nina and Elena talking about feeling strange and that you're shielding? What did you expect me to do? I'm sorry I brought them but I needed some way of finding you..." “Of course I was shielding, and if you knew what it was from their description, then you should have known why I wanted you to watch them – just in case I couldn’t...” Emi cut off vocally but continued mentally, ’Just in case I couldn’t block the call, and if it was a hostile threat... I wanted you to keep them safe.’ Emi’s gaze was imploring as she tried to get Jason to grasp the situation – if the other cougars had come then she would have been distracted in trying to keep them protected. This way at least she only had to worry about looking after herself. The children especially, made her vulnerable. "There was no way for me to know that you'd be able to get in touch with me anyway... not when they are concerned." In honesty, Emi knew she hadn’t thought it all out properly – her first thought had only been to make sure the rest of the Stalk didn’t have to get involved in this. ’You would have done the same in my position... in fact... do not think I forgot about you storming out when that vampire called the wolves to the Lupanar...’ It didn’t make it any better, but at least she hadn’t interfered in the pack business, whether some considered her family or not. Emi was barely aware of the shifting in aura around the area the next moment and her head spun around to see that Nathan had disappeared. Instantly her eyes shot toward the distance where she knew he’d gone and she was bolting without any thought right beside Jason as they moved like blurs through the dark streets to where he’d parked the Blazer. In the car, Nina had been contentedly playing a mild hand clapping game with Elena, despite the tension in the air, when she felt the new arrival before he even appeared. Her eyes glanced up and peered out the windshield at the young man with the ruby eyes, and as he spoke to them, she tilted her head – but she didn’t reply. If there was one rule her mother had instilled in her from an early age it was not to talk to strangers – especially strangers who roamed about at night time. The fact that she could feel the approaching adults and the fear and irritation in them prompted her to stick to that rule. Emilia was a bit more than just irritated now though. While she’d had no problem conversing with Nathan, that did not mean she wanted her children near a vampire that she had only just met herself – if any at all. Jason stopped as they arrived in range to aim his weapon and voice the threat, but the mother continued on until she was right beside the car, placing herself between the girls and Nathan as she allowed her beast’s aura to spill forth protectively but not yet threateningly. “So now you have discovered one of my secrets, but I would appreciate it if you do not interact with them, Nathan...” Emi spoke calmly, though through clenched teeth, “If you wish to communicate with any cougar, then it shall be me – understand, I am not about to expose my daughters to any stranger who has not even gained my trust yet. And that is not an easy task in itself.” “I think, perhaps, now would be time to call this ‘introduction’ over so I can take them back home,” Emi’s gaze never once left the vampire. While she probably didn’t look the most intimidating creature a lot of the time, there was no one who could say that she couldn’t put up a good fight, especially to protect her loved ones. "Jesus fucking christ!" Elena's reaction was the complete opposite of Nina's. Instead of staring at the man in front of the car calmly, red eyes peering intently through the windshield, the girl freaked out. Even through the glass, the cougar caught the smell of rot, her nose wrinkling. "What the fucking...shit! Fucking...thing...has red eyes!" Suffice it to say, Elena had never seen a vampire before. She knew that they existed, but the sudden appearance of one right in front of her left her startled. And apperantly, she'd picked up a few choice phrases from Tore. "Fuck you if you think I'm not going to panic!" The girl snapped, wrapping an arm around Nina's head to block her ears. "You can't just do that, fucking appearing in front of people out of thin air! What the fuck man! Who the hell- fuck do you think you are?!" However reassuring the red-eyed freak thought he was being by telling her that no one had been harmed, Elena wouldn't believe him until she saw Emily for herself. Luckily, a few seconds later, the familiar back of a blond head inserted herself between the vampire and the car. “I think, perhaps, now would be time to call this ‘introduction’ over so I can take them back home,” "Yeah, gotta go home and do things that don't involve eating people." Elena muttered, relaxing her hold on Nina. The teenager was glad to see Emily, and behind her, Jason. So at least the vampire was telling the truth that no one had been hurt. Still, that left her wondering what Emily meant about conversing with cougars. Was the vampire the source of the weird...pull she'd felt earlier? Whatever it was, she knew she could ask Emily about it whenever they went home. She had a feeling it would be without Jason; the mother cougar was livid. |

His eyes were on the youngest of those present, very intrigued by her. She was so young to be a lycanthrope, and yet the proof was there before his eyes, her tiny body wreathed in a flaming aura just as the young woman beside her was. Beyond that, she too had the Gift, as Nathan could only assume her mother did. “Very interesting…,” his thoughts were cut off as the other wrapped her arm protectively around the head, specifically the ears, of the little girl. As she went on her tirade about what he couldn’t do, though he obviously could as he just did. My, my, she had a mouth on her, didn’t she? It’s a good thing she had the little one’s ears covered. He was about to answer her when the other two showed up. Emily’s face was now directly in his path of sight now to the two girls in the vehicle. Her words were calm, but he could feel the anger she was holding back, suddenly her aura was alive and around her, blazing as surely as those of the girls, and that of the man that was shouting at him. The chill of the grave suddenly flooded the area, placing a cold spot between himself and the cougar that was just a hairs breadth away from touching him. “I suppose I have discovered one of your secrets. Despite telling you they are in no danger from me, I can understand why you won’t agree with me, and I shall have to respect your wishes. I do so hope you can come to trust me in time Emily. Your family is very interesting, and I wish you and them no harm.” His right hand lifted from his pocket, waving past Emily to the girls within; his last act of communication with them as of this moment. His light expression faded though then, mild irritation clouding his features. He took a step away from Emily, turning to face the man with the gun as he pointed it at Nathan. “I would find it hard to believe that Emily approves of you pointing a gun at her and the two young girls in the vehicle despite myself being between them. Secondly…,” Nathan vanished from sight then, Emily perhaps feeling the breezy by-product of his movement as he went from standing in front of the Blaze to standing in front of Jason. It might have seemed comedic to some; the werewolf had nearly a foot on the vampire, though his gun would now be ineffective in shooting anyone except for Emily or the other girls. The reason for this clear as Nathan’s gloved left hand was also out of his coat’s pocket and wrapped neatly around the large barrel of the Desert Eagle. “You are quite the uncivilized brute, and if you are close to Emily like I think you are, then I can see where the older girl in the car learned her language.” Nathan’s hand closed further around the gun, his fingers slowly sinking into the barrel. “Next time you should be more polite. Not everyone of my kind would be as civilized about this as I am. Most would outright kill you for showing such blatant disrespect and rudeness. I chose instead to simply show you the error of your ways, and remove from play the offensive object.” Another moment and Nathan’s fingers slid off of the gun, his arm falling easily back to his side. The barely of the gun would have four deep dents in it, the weapon crushed like it were a toy. Edited by Nathan Baxton, Feb 28 2009, 01:07 PM.

In the midst of their 'discussion,' Jason and Emily had both completely missed the vampire vanishing from the area to investigate the two new cougars in the vicinity. That had been mistake number two for the werewolf. The first had been bringing them there in the first place. Could he have done things differently? Maybe. But he feared for Emily too much to just wait. The thought of him just waiting around at the house while something happened to her nearly made Jason sick to his stomach. Perhaps he was also over-reacting to the presence of the vampire so near to the girls now that both wolf and mother-cougar had arrived. Perhaps. As Emily placed herself between the vampire and the car that contained the girls, Jason was making a wide outer sweep -- a nod to his military experience. The desert eagle remained trained on the creature's head while Jason began to make a wide circle so that he was no longer behind the vampire but was at his side. His eyes were focused at the temple of the creature and waited for the opportunity to fire. While it may not be an official execution, Jason would risk it for the sake of Emily and her daughters. For now he waited, hands remaining steady and forced himself to relax so that his hands would not waver while Emilia spoke. “I would find it hard to believe that Emily approves of you pointing a gun at her and the two young girls in the vehicle despite myself being between them. Secondly…,” The vampire's attention had shifted after taking a step back from the cougars. With Emily warning him off and Jason with his gun still pointed at the man, they had both at least gotten attention away from the girls. Just as Jason was about to open his mouth to assure the vampire he would not miss, there was a blur of motion before the wolf's eyes blinked in an attempt to catch up with what just happened. When they opened a split second later the vampire was in front of him with the barrel in his hands, “You are quite the uncivilized brute, and if you are close to Emily like I think you are, then I can see where the older girl in the car learned her language. Next time you should be more polite. Not everyone of my kind would be as civilized about this as I am. Most would outright kill you for showing such blatant disrespect and rudeness. I chose instead to simply show you the error of your ways, and remove from play the offensive object.” When the hand was removed, Jason's eyes shifted for a moment to see that his weapon had now been rendered useless - the metal crushed to the point where no bullet would pass and if he did fire it would simply explode in his hands. The wolf's gaze darkened as he pulled back his arms and let the gun drop uselessly to the ground with a dull thud, "I'm very familiar with your kind." The man's voice growled out, "I make it my living to kill them. Don't you dare come near Emily, her children or anyone else she holds dear -- or I will kill you. Order or no order. That's a promise." The aura of his beast coiled heatedly under the surface of his skin. It yearned to take its jaws and clamp down on the vampire, to rip out its throat. Those feelings reflected in Jason's eyes even as he managed to keep his Alpha energy contained. He did it only for Emily and the girls. They were the only thing keeping him from lashing out and attacking the vampire in front of him. |

Emi was going to ignore for the moment the fact that she was rather certain she’d picked up the tail end of something that made her wonder if Elena was spending a little too much time around Tore. No doubt Nathan’s appearance had shocked the girls; something she wasn’t sure he really understood since he seemed more intent on studying them. Thankfully, the intrusion of the adult lycanthropes seemed to take the attention from them enough for Nathan to pay attention to her and the fact that she didn’t feel comfortable with him so close to her children. The shift in the air didn’t budge the mother, though effectively caused her aura to flare up slightly more in order to keep the air immediately around her flesh heated. Nathan was right, whether he assured her or not, she wasn’t going to believe the girls to be safe in the company of any strange man, especially a vampire who could call them. Her eyes even narrowed slightly when he waved to the girls, but she didn’t reply right away. Rather, the cougar saw the flicker of irritation on Nathan’s features before he turned about to face Jason – and after mentioning that she probably didn’t appreciate a gun being aimed at the car her girls were in (which wasn’t exactly wrong), he went from standing in front of her, to in front of Jason. It took a lot of self-restraint for the high-strung woman not to instinctively raise her own weapon at a potential threat to the wolf due to the speed at which Nathan had moved and her own impulse desire to protect those she cared about. The fact that his hand only went to Jason’s gun and not the man himself helped her keep her calm. Though it didn’t mean the tension in Emi had gone down, especially as the vampire and werewolf exchanged words as the Desert Eagle in their grasp was rendered useless. Though, as wound up as she could tell the werewolf was – and despite how annoyed she was that he’d brought the girls here – Emi was still glad and a little proud that he was keeping his cool enough not to retaliate. She didn’t want to consider what would happen if the situation got any worse. Emi released a slow breath, counting down from ten as she tried to relax to no avail. She knew that while the children were there and so close to Nathan that she wouldn’t be able to. Slowly she walked to the driver side door and Nina rolled down the window for her. The scent of the two girls helped quell the maternal beast slightly and she sighed as she leaned in to kiss Nina on the top of the head and smile at Elena as she spread her aura over the girls as she whispered to them, “Thank goodness it is only the two of you I get this insanely irritable around... hate to think how angry a mamacat I would be with more.” Standing up once again, Emi’s attention returned to the males as she frowned, “We are done here. Jason, would you mind giving me a lift back to my car?” It didn’t need to be said, that Emi didn’t want to be away from the girls right at the moment and more than anything just wanted to be away from there. She wasn’t about to have a debate with Jason in front of Nathan either. Edited by Emilia Deveraux, Mar 1 2009, 04:16 PM.

”I’m very familiar with your kind. I make it my living to kill them.” Nathan’s eyes narrowed dangerously, the executioner before him threatening to end his eternal existence bringing no peace to the already tense situation between the two males. Tiny sparks of lightning arced around him, dancing harmlessly around to anything metallic and then to the ground. “I believe Emily is quite able to defend herself, mongrel. I know your kind…slaughtering the newborn before they have had a chance to live. Tearing apart lives without giving them even the whisper of a chance to speak on their behalf.” His voice was a low whisper, yet held an edge to it that was just as menacing as Jason’s own tone was. “And you call us the blood thirsty monsters!” He stopped speaking then, the sparks fading away as Emily turned to address them. ”We are done here. Jason, would you mind giving me a lift back to my car?” Nathan’s face almost transformed, the anger vanishing to be replaced by a more neutral, semi-pleasant look. Turning back around, back to Jason, Nathan walked away and towards Emily. One hand rose, as if asking for a hold before she spoke to stop him. His other hand was inside his coat pocket; when it came out, all that was in it was a small card the size of a business card. Nathan paused though then, Emily’s aura now visible catching his attention. His brows drew together, puzzlement crossing his features as he openly stared at her. He vanished again, walking rather slow for the vampire when something caught his attention and easily distracted him, and appeared again in front of Emily. But he was not looking at her face to face as one might have expected. Nathan was crouched down in front of her, coat fanned out behind him on the sidewalk as he kneeled there, eyes fixated on the two points of difference that was part of Emily’s aura. A slow smile spread across his face, his hand stopping just shy of actually touching the female cougar. This was an interesting development. Did they even know that Emily was carrying twins? With how the male was acting, it was possible, but not too likely. His posture and actions weren’t quite aggressive enough. He could be weak though, the thought somehow disappointing to the vampire. Forcing himself away, Nathan slowly took a step back and looked at Emily with a small grin. He’d hold out his card until she’d take it. It wasn’t a real business card, just a blank card with his number scribbled onto it. “I hope you will give me a call sometime. I imagine we will have things to discuss.” He glanced down towards her tummy again, the two spots both part of her, and yet not at the same time. Finally he started walking away backwards, looking between the girls in the car, to Emily, then finally to Jason. With a smirk at the man, his eyes turned back to Emily, the crimson fading away until they were almost their natural grey once more. “I really do hope you call. There are two more reasons to stay safe that you did not know you had before now.” His eyes dropped significantly to her tummy, then back to her face. With a brief smile, and another wave at the two in the car, the vampire faded away once more. In that same instant he was back standing beside his car. His eyes went over to Emily’s car with a small grin. Tonight had been an interesting night. A rumor had been confirmed. The cougars that had shown up were rather special and despite the rude wolf that was apparently attached to the woman, Nathan felt he had a fairly good time. He was also quite sure that Emily would be giving him a call in the next night or two. Maybe longer or shorter depending on how she handled the news. Sliding into his car, the black Porsche whipping around and then speeding off into the city. |
