((OOC: Sorry this is so short and took me so long, I thought I posted a couple of days ago. )) “We’ve got plenty of time. Plenty of other nights to get everything. Besides, I can’t have you learning everything. No mystery that way.” Laughing, he waved away the salad. Leafy greens were one thing he didn’t normally partake of. He wouldn’t admit it, but they didn’t smell quite right after a few days out of the ground. The pair continued on like this until everything was gone, and Matt paid for the dinner, waving away any protests Joss might have put up about paying, if any. On their way back to the jeep, Matt turned to regard Jocelyn. “So what’s your favorite possession?” It was an honest question on his part. He had none, but then he could hardly carry possessions around when he had been travelling months at a time though the wilderness with nothing but his own fur. And yes, it was back to twenty questions. There wouldn’t be much else to do in the trip between the restaurant and their next stop. “And off topic, what kind of music do you like? Figure I can tune the radio to the station you like while we’re on our way to our next stop.” Matt would help Joss into the jeep if she needed it, and then climb into his own side. |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss walked from the restaurant quite full and satisfied. Smiling as she headed back towards Matt's jeep she couldn't help the urge to take his hand as they walked the short distance. Slipping her hand into his as they walked, the smile persistant on her face. The salad hadn't gotten close to fullfilling her but half of one of Matt's portions of pot roast had certainly done the job as well. Her head lifted up as he asked his question. Her mind for a moment seemed to be stuck in the gutter as her first thoughts of what he had asked hadn't been what he had actually said. Her smile widened as the actual question sunk in and she realized how much of a gutter brain she actually had. *Good thing I didn't just blurt out an answer.* Joss laughed at herself. "Hmmm." She pondered aloud. Her mind thought back to the playbill she had signed by most of the orginal cast of Rent. But that was gone. She'd lost almost all of her possessions the night she had been changed. Forced away from her job and anything she had brought from home she had to scrounge, beg or let others steal anything she had now. "Don't have much to choose from. The only thing I really have that makes me smile sometimes is this." Joss pulled her hand from his to wiggle her fingers at him. A gold band with a cladagh that rested on her middle finger. There was a gap that showed that the band had been cut to allow her growing finger to still wear it. "It's something that reminds me of my family. I got it for christmas when I was about 12. Truth is it's about the only thing I have from before." Joss said sounding a little regrettful. She gratefully let Matt lift her into the truck again. Shaking her head as he side barred about music. "I'm good with anything really. Except rap. Ohh and some of that french pop techno music is just bizarre." Joss laughed. "We don't need background music though Matt. Unless your trying to say I talk to much. At any point you can totally tell me to shut up. Admittedly I'm a little nervous... and wanting to impress and charm you. And ... now I'm afraid I'm overdoing it. Ok maybe I SHOULD shut up." She laughed nervously. She buckled herself into the jeep and waited for Matt to join her. "Maybe you should talk some more. LIke umm what was your most exciting or interesting rescue job?" Joss asked. |

Matt had hopped inside, revving the engine as he started the jeep, and then smiled a little. “So long as that makes you happy, that’s all that matters. Doesn’t matter how big or little an object is, what matters is the significance it has to you. That’s what makes it special.” Matt didn’t bother with his own seatbelt; he personally thought they were death traps. He also thought this about the jeep as well, but sometimes you had to be practical. He turned his eyes from Joss back to the road, putting the jeep in gear, and began their trip to their next destination. "Maybe you should talk some more. LIke umm what was your most exciting or interesting rescue job?" Matt chuckled when she said he should talk more. He didn’t have that much going on that was exciting or even worth talking about. But Joss managed to steer him in the right direction. “Well, most exciting would have to be the very first rescue job I did, back before that was my actual job title.” Grinning, Matt could remember only too well that wintry night. “It wasn’t too long after I left my home town and started wandering aimlessly. It was pure luck actually; I was walking through this forest, avoiding the usual hiking trails, when I caught scent of two of our kind. Curious I went out after them to meet them.” “I could smell smoke and human the closer I got, which kind of worried me. I thought they might be two newly changed wolves, and I didn’t want them to make the same mistake I did, so I picked up my pace to get to them in time. But when I got there, I could tell they weren’t new. They were just toying with the two campers. I wasn’t even really thinking when I launched myself into the fray.” Frowning for a moment, Matt mentally edited out part of his story. “When all was said and done, the people were only a little bumped and bruised. They didn’t remember anything, for which I was grateful. It would have been hard to explain away my part in their rescue if they had. Since then, whenever I decide to stop at a place for awhile, I usually take a job doing search and rescue. I get to save most of the money too, as I’m rather practical about my living habits.” Matt chuckled to himself about that as well. Joss had first met him when he was being ‘practical’. Living off of the land; getting a small stash of clothing together. No need for an apartment, bank accounts memorized; no bills to pay. Life was simpler that way. |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss liked the sound of Matt's laughter. It was warm, masculine and comforting. It was one of many qualities that were quickly endearing to the timid wolf. She turned to face him, listening fully as he began to tell his tale as he kept his eyes on the road towards their next mystery, to her, destination. Joss tried to envision the scene as Matt laid it out for her. A younger Matt, away from home, running away really. Had he been scared? Or had he always been the self confidant man he was now? As he explained on she realized how much of a hero he was. No matter if he tried to hide it or not. No matter a dark past Matt was good through and through. She smiled, perhaps at the wrong moment as he was describing the other wolves who were toying with the human, but she was thinking of what a good man Matt was. She smoothed the smile from her face as Matt paused worried he would think her morose. Luckily he continued on without seeming to notice her. She smiled as he explained that the humans had come out of it safely. "Wish you had been around a year ago in England." She muttered under her breath. She lifted her head. "Yes well lucky for me Jason has been quite generous. I was steadily going out of my head as well as out of my wallet staying at that hostel. Lucky for both of us that Jason is generous and the pack had such a place for us..." Joss trailed off about to say outcasts. But that wasn't the right word to describe them. Here in this pack she finally belonged somewhere. And she hoped Matt felt that too. Being in that house only included them in the pack more. She chuckled with him. Part of her wishing she had the strength or resolve to have been living so practically. Maybe she could have gotten away sooner during the past year. Maybe ... maybe. Joss smiled shaking her head. She had to stop dwelling on the past when her future was looking so much brighter. Well if they could just fix the stupid government here in France things could be perfect. "I'm ... Well I'm glad you decided to stay. Even if it's not the most practical. But well... I'm glad you stayed." Joss stammered blushing. Joss sighed contentedly as they drove finally moving her eyes from Matt to look out the window where they were driving. She'd never really had the time to take in the city. And part of her was glad she was finally getting to do it with Matt at her side. Paris was suppose to be the city of Romance. She smiled. "I'm glad I will get to finally take in the city... with you." Joss said speaking her thoughts aloud. |
