Cara still wasn't sure if she was doing the right thing. Sure, the Lieutenant was...well, he was smoking hot, and God, if she didn't get some sex soon she was going to explode. But there was the little fact that he hated lycanthropes and she was a werewolf...and Geri of the Pack, and if he ever found out she'd probably be royally fucked. Not the good way either. So she'd debated with herself for the whole hour it took her to take a shower and change into the short yellow dress she'd picked out, weighing the decision to call him and cancel or just go anyway, if not for the (hopefully) free drinks or whatever he'd offer. She really did feel bad deceiving him, but..a tiny part of her didn't. Still, her lonly nether regions won out, and on the way to the place the woman had sent the Lieutenant a text telling him where he could meet her. She'd picked out a nice little human place to go, somewhere that they wouldn't be surrounded by screaming drunks, but somewhere that it wasn't uptight and pretentious. While she was at it, Cara had also sent a text to Emily telling her what she was doing in case something did go wrong. She was sure it wouldn't though. Cara had driven over, since the place was a little to far to walk to in the green heels she'd put on to go with the dress. She'd found a parking space right out front, too, feeling a bit like Han Solo when she did some fancy maneuvering to get her car into the spot. Stepping out of the car, she smoothed her dress down, grabbing her bag before heading inside to see if Lt. Barnes was there yet. |

After his shift, Tobias found himself still lingering near PPIT Central. An impromptu date had him feeling just a little nervous. How long had it been since he had been out with a woman other than his wife? Well, ex-wife. Too long really and while he thought himself to be rather suave and in control, Tobias had to admit he was a bit uncertain this time around. The man paced about the building before his movements took him further and further away from the building of his work. Every so often he checked his watch while wondering if Mrs McKinney has decided against meeting him. Had he given her the correct phone number? Why the hell was he worrying so much? Was it really the end of the world if she decided to stand him up? "Course it's not." He said simply while mumbling under his breath. Both hands were jammed into his pants pockets, not bothering to go anywhere to change but instead staying his work suit. When the text finally came, the man was relieve to say the least and once more admonished himself for being so nervous. Unfortunately the place she had picked was a bit far and Tobias was forced to rush BACK to Central to pick up his car before he took off. It seemed luck was not on his side though as he had to not only get back to his vehicle, but get through the rush of traffic and then had to circle the block five times before he finally got a parking space out front. The car door was flung open, where a loud bang followed and then a sharp curse as the door slammed into a light pole, thanks to Tobias parking too close, "Son of a... ... real good start Toby... real good." Mounting the steps to the establishment, he jerked his tie off, nearly strangling himself in the process before he finally snatched the annoying fabric away and shoved it haphazardly into his back pocket. Not even realizing that it hung out like a tail behind him. Practically jogging inside, he stopped short and just a little out of breath as he looked around for the petite blonde. "Sorry I'm late..." Was he really? It wasn't like they had set a time and yet he apologized anyway as soon as he managed to find her. Edited by Tobias Barnes, Feb 9 2009, 05:00 AM.

Lt. Barnes hadn’t been there when she got there, so the woman had taken a seat at a high-top table, one leg crossed over the other as she waited. It really hadn’t been that long that the werewolf was sitting there waiting for the man, but she still was a little nervous, since he hadn’t answered her text and because she was half-expecting him to stand her up. After all, it was a little…odd that he’d immediately accept a date with some woman coming in off the street. But she was long overdue and he was really, really cute so she wasn’t going to knock it. So when he flew threw the door and apologized somewhat frantically, Cara’s eyebrow raised a little, a smile sliding over her face. He looked so cute all flustered and slightly disheveled. “You aren’t late at all.” she said, her smile widening into a genuine one. “I haven’t been waiting long.” she said, glancing over at the bar. “Do you want to get some drinks or do you want some food…or neither, we don’t have to eat or drink…” she was babbling again, sounding like a complete idiot. Cara clamped her mouth shut, shaking her head with a slight smile. “Sorry. I babble when I’m nervous…can I start over?" the blonde asked. She paused, head tilting a little while she collected herself. "Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll get us something to drink. What would you like?” she asked, slipping off the tall chair. “You aren’t late at all.” Well that was a relief to know. Of course they had not really set a time to begin with so probably all that really mattered was that he had shown up at all. Or for that matter that she had shown up. Tobias would have probably spent another hour wandering around the city waiting for a call or text before he gave up and went home. Outside of work, his life was not very exciting anymore. He had become comfortable being a father and husband. “I haven’t been waiting long.” "Oh, good." Tobias scrubbed a hand through his medium length hair while still catching his breath. He really paid little attention to her babbling until she actually stated that was what she was doing, "Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll get us something to drink. What would you like?” "Ahh... guess I'll start with a beer." Some how Toby had managed to come to a bar and yet not be sure what it was he wanted to drink. At the same time he felt a bit foolish for not being better prepared. Hell, he still had his holster strapped on under his coat and gun still inside. Not exactly the wisest move. |

There was something oddly endering and sweet about the fact that Tobias was so nervous. Grinning a bit, the woman watched as he ran his fingers through his hair, making it stand up like a fluffy brown birds nest. Her own fingers itched a little, wanting to fix his hair. Then again, she was sure that it was just an urge to touch him in general. Sliding off the barstool, the Cara’s grin widenened a little. “Real beer or fake beer?” she asked. “Oh, I’m sorry. I meant European or American.” The grin on her face widened. She’d had the argument with Jason before, about European vrs. American beers. Most American beers tasted like horse piss, in her opinion. Not that European beer tasted much better, but she wasn’t going to mention that fact. She liked the hard stuff better. Cara blamed Emi for that one. Then again, Cara liked to blame Emi for a lot of things. Not that Emi really was to blame for any of Cara’s actions. Cara wasn’t exactly the little-miss-innocent she pretended to be. And Cara did get Emi into a fair amount of trouble, too. But she liked to forget that and blame the Reinpa. Cocking her head to the side, she waited for the Lieutenant to answer. |

There really was no reason for Tobias to be nervous. Or at least that was what he told himself. Sure it had been several years since he had dated but it was just like riding a bike right? This would be no sweat. Then again he was not sure what to expect from this little encounter or even what Cara was expecting. But he had been the one to ask her out so Tobias guessed he better start figuring it out fast. “Real beer or fake beer? Oh, I’m sorry. I meant European or American.” The grin on her face made his own appear at the question, "Well even though I am American... I think I'll go for the European. I've been living in Paris long enough to get a taste for it." Tobias was not really too picky about his beers and not usually one to choose sides in the whole European versus American argument. "Not that it really matters to me... it's just meant to get you drunk right?" Okay, so maybe not the wisest thing to have said to a complete stranger. Way to make yourself look like an alcoholic, Toby. Still he forced a smile on his face and shrugged a little before he rolled his head in the direction of the crowd around them, "So what made you decide to choose this place? I don't think I've ever been here before." |

The werewolf nodded, turning to the bar. "Une bière et un martini rouge cerise, merci." she said, motioning to their table. Sliding back onto the barstool, Cara glanced around, her bare shoulder lifting in a little shrug at his question. "I found this place a little while after I came to Paris." she said, smile fading a little. The woman didn't like to be reminded of leaving Marsailles; it was hard living far away from her family, even though she had the Pack and her friends. Forcing the smile back on her face, she looked back at Toby. "And if you were looking to get into my pants the correct answer would be "European, because American tastes like horse piss". Or "Here, have some whiskey." " She said with a laugh. "What brings you to Paris? I can tell your American just by your accent. My...One of my closest friends is American although his is a little different then yours." Cara said, inwardly wincing at almost calling Jason her Ulfric. That would be just great; outing herself as a lycan within 5 minutes of their date. A world record. Thankfully, their drinks arrived, courtesy of a slightly harried looking waiter. She picked up the glass, taking a sip of the ruby-red liquid, making a soft sound in the back of her throat. The last time she'd been out drinking had been that night at the Frog with Emi, when they'd put a huge dent in the whiskey supply there. It had also been the night they played drunk text dare to Jason's phone, and the Geri had made sure that she'd confiscated his phone long enough to copy the texts and videos and pictures to hers. Grinning a little at the memories, Cara made a mental note to get together with the cougar for another night out soon. |

Both eyebrows were raised as she turned to the bar and ordered in French. Not that he really should have been surprised but she did have a nice accent. He nodded to her explaination of how she knew of this place, "So you're not originally from Paris... or?" Tobias was not sure whether or not he should ask, noting the smile that faded from her features when she mentioned coming to Paris. Hopefully he had not screwed up already in asking a painful question. "And if you were looking to get into my pants the correct answer would be 'European, because American tastes like horse piss.' or 'Here, have some whiskey.'" Tobias' mouth opened, then closed and then opened again before he wound up laughing with her. Her blatant honesty was actually a nice contrast to what he dealt with on a daily basis and was a bit more his own style as well, "Well I'm glad that I got it halfway right. I don't mind hard liquor or spirits either." "What brings you to Paris? I can tell your American just by your accent. My...One of my closest friends is American although his is a little different then yours." He nodded, "Small world I guess... I've lived in Paris for several years." There was a pause as he once more remembered that his whole reason for coming to France and leaving his life behind in Miami was for his wife. Well, ex-wife. When the drinks arrived it provided a small break in the silence as he promptly took a drink before he scrubbed his hair once more. Guess he might as well get it out there. "I moved here because this is where my wife lived. So I transferred from Miami PD to the police force here in Paris." He shrugged his shoulders a little, more than evident that thinking of the woman bothered him. But it was even more painful to consider that he had not seen his daughter in several months now. "So, ah anyway... nice place. I'll have to remember it later if I need a drink." Not exactly the best segway. Tobias was really off his game. |

"No, I'm from Marseilles. I came to Paris for medical school a few years ago." Taking another sip of her drink, the woman smiled again. Her eyebrow raised a little as Tobias explained about how he came to be in Paris-and at the mention of a wife. From the look on his face, however, the woman could tell that it was most likely over, and by the way he changed the topic pretty quickly, she was pretty certain she was right. The werewolf glanced around as well. The place was pretty swanky, she had to admit. It was pretty big, the back half a dance floor separated by a half-glass partition that helped cut down on the noise. Done in soft beige and reds, it was tasteful in the soft lighting. Smiling a bit, the woman nodded, taking another sip of her drink. "Yes, I should come back here sometime." she said. She should also pass the name of the place on to Pops. She'd picked up a small brochure on the way in to pass the time waiting for Tobias, and there were a few nights a week that were ballroom dancing and a oldies night. That was, if Pops talked to her after he found out what she was doing. Forcing the smile back on her face, the woman took another long sip of her drink. "So how long have you been in Paris?" |

The PPIT Lieutenant nodded as Cara explained that she was originally from Marseilles. From what he could remember that was a fair distance from Paris and on the southern border of France. That is if his geography served him correctly. For an American he was somewhat acquainted with the country thanks in part to his wife since they had spent several summers traveling to various regions of France for her work. At least whenever he could get the time off, "So you're a nurse... doctor...?" Tobias was not sure if he was surprised or not to hear that she was in medicine. The petite blonde did not seem like the type but then he had seen the rather bubbly side of her with a dash of ditz. Not that it bothered him really. In fact it made her seem even more cute to him in a wierd way. Regardless of her actual profession, it at least showed him that she had smarts as well. At least Cara did not push the matter when he mentioned his wife. Everytime he let it slip that he had a wife he always feared that someone would ask him fifty questions. It had happened with the secretary back at Central until he finally snapped at her and did not bother to sugar coat the truth. "So how long have you been in Paris?" How long had it been? Tobias tipped the bottle up and took a few swallows as he considered, "Well... Sophia is five now... I'd say about six years." The bottle had left his lips long enough for him to say that before he shrugged and tipped it back again to drain the rest of it before letting it thump on the tabletop. Catching the attention of a waitress, Tobias gestured toward the empty bottle and lifted his finger to indicate he wanted another. "How are you doing on your drink?" His eyes darted to Cara while he still had the attention of the waitress. Perhaps the officer was going through drinks a bit fast, even if it was only his first and they had been there a total of five minutes. |

"Technically? I'm a doctor. I'm in my residency to be a coroner, though, so my official title at the hospital is "Medical Assistant". I don't ever use Dr. McKinney though; it just sounds weird." she said, laughing a little. "Besides, no one would ever believe me. I'd tell them I'm a doctor then open my mouth and they'd think I'm lying." Tipping back the rest of her drink, she nodded, holding up the empty glass. It only took an hour or so for the pair to relax, at least with the help of several glasses of liqour. At some point, the werewolf had decided she wanted to dance, and surprisingly, Tobias had been keen on the idea. Cara had lost track of the time they'd spent on the dance floor, only that it had been long enough for her to become flushed and warm from the alchohol. As the last song ended, she broke away, laughing a little as she fanned herself. "It's a little warm in here." she said, grinning up at her dance partner. Still, the next song was a slower one, so she wrapped her arms around his neck, moving with the man slowly. "You're not a bad dancer." she teased, grin widening a bit. "I'm surprised." Cara said with a giggle. She was surprised, really, at how well this date was going. They were laughing, talking, having fun. And she hadn't let slip she was a werewolf. All that was left was getting passed the "first kiss". And, as bold and forward as she was sometimes, she thought she'd let the Lieutenant handle that one. |

The time was passing well for a first date and both parties seemed to be having a good time. The liquor was flowing and so was the conversation. Amazingly neither one had seemed to get on the others nerves either. A shock to say the least, at least from Tobias' point of view. Perhaps he was just surprised to have met a woman who seemed so easy to get along with and was a cutie at that. When she had suggested they dance, Tobias had no issue with it at all. While he did not believe he was all that good, he did know how to dance and enjoyed it at times. Mostly times when liquor was involved. The music and their movements together had resulted in time passing even more quickly. The pace of the music may have been partially to blame but now the tone had slowed. Catching his breath still, Tobias placed his hands on Cara's hips as the two of them settled into the slow song, "You're not a bad dancer. I'm surprised." Tobias lifted an eyebrow at the petite blonde, "Well you're not half bad yourself." A smile broke over his features shortly thereafter. The Lieutenant was surprised to say the least, mostly with himself. He was having a good time and had only thought about his wife once. Perhaps he was finally getting over all of it and was ready to move forward. It had to happen sooner or later right? "It is a bit hot in here though." It didn't help that he still had his jacket on, thanks to the need to conceal his holster. Then again he had a few too many at this point as well and the alcohol had settled in his belly, "Maybe... we could head outside for some fresh air...?" The smile lingered on his lips, more of a lazy one as he was most definitely buzzing at that point. |

Her own grin widening at the suggestion, Cara nodded, slipping her arms from around him, brushing up against the holster in the process. "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just really happy to see me, Lieutenant?" she teased. The woman let out a small laugh at the corniness of it all. "Yeah, it's a little hot in here." she answered, glancing around the bar. It'd become rather crowded since they'd first come in, and the crush of bodies made it warmer then she'd liked. Grabbing the Lieutenant's hand, she made her way through the crowd pulling the man through the dancing people. Coming back to their table, she dropped a few bills onto the surface to pay for their drinks. If Toby had a problem with that, he could pick up the bills and pay himself. Cara didn't really care either way. The werewolf was giddy. There was no way she was buzzed; if she drank that much alcohol on the date it'd probably raise some suspicion as to why she wasn't dead of alcohol poisoning. Still, the way the date had gone was enough to catapult the woman into giddiness. Hand still firmly wrapped around Tobias', the woman led the way to the door. As she pushed open the wooden door with her hip, a wash of cooler air spilled over her. She hadn't really realized how hot it was inside until she'd stepped outside. Dropping the man's hand, the werewolf walked down the steps and onto the sidewalk, her back coming to rest against her car. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." she said with a smile. |

"Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just really happy to see me, Lieutenant?" "Both?" Tobias smirked at his own answer and the fact that she had asked it. While a few hours ago he might have been a little embarassed to have forgotten to remove his holster and gun, that was a completely different story now that the man had a few drinks in him. He just did not care anymore. Besides, she knew he was a cop -- naturally he carried a gun. At the agreement that it was hot, he followed her gaze around to take in that increased amount of people now inside the bar. Naturally all of them were moving to the music now playing. But when she grabbed his hand, her palm felt very hot from some strange reason. Normally he might have questioned it, but then Lieutenant Barnes was not in right now. Instead it was Toby... tipsy, bordering on drunk Toby. And that Toby didn't care one bit as he was pulled through the crowd with a short stop at their table before they were out the door. "Ahh... fresh air." He mumbled once the two of them were outside and the cool Parisian air hit them. With his free hand, he fanned his jacket a little just to continue to cool himself off while they moved to stand next to Cara's car. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." With one hand now shoved in his pocket he nodded, "You seem to be having a good time too." Tobias was enjoying himself, something that he had not done in a good while now that he thought about it. He'd always either had a few drinks alone after work or had just gone home. The divorce had been messy and there had not been a night that had not gone by that he had not dwelled on it and how he could have changed things. But, tonight was different and it felt good. Real good. "So, miss McKinney... where to next?" He glanced over her shoulder to her car, "You know..." His gaze turned from the car to look down the street, "My apartment isn't too far away..." |

"Now, Mr. Barnes, what kind of woman do you think I am? People would talk and ruin my reputation." the smile on Cara's face widened as she teased the man next to her. Glancing down the street, the woman leaned against the car. "How far away is your place?" She asked. "I mean. I should take you home since you obviously arn't in any condition to drive. I can't leave you to get behind the wheel of your car and...possibly endanger anyone...and if I should come inside to make sure you get all situated and have anything you need...then there's nothing wrong with that." the werewolf said, her eyes glinting wickidly as she turned to face the man. "I can take you home...but..." biting her lip a little, the woman looked down. "I don't think I'd be able to make it back to my own apartment. I shouldn't be behind the wheel for long." she said, before looking back up at the man. Alright, she was acting a little...drunker then she already was. But she couldn't exactly act like she wasn't feeling anything at all. She'd had a few too many to pretend she wasn't feeling anything at all. "Maybe I could spend the night at your place." she said tilting her head up towards the man. Her hand pressed against his chest, smirking a little as she pulled him towards her gently. Pressing her lips against his, she moved them against the mans, shivering a little at the kiss. Pulling away, she grinned up at him. "Of course, if you don't want me to stay I'll go home." |

"Now, Mr. Barnes, what kind of woman do you think I am? People would talk and ruin my reputation." A smile spread over Tobias' bearded features, nearly as wide as the one on Cara's as she teased him. Perhaps an invitation to his apartment was a bit on the forward side, but at the same time he had a feeling that she was not that offended by it. Before he come back with a reply though it seemed Cara had fallen into a bit rambling about the dangers of him driving as well as making sure he got home safely. "I can take you home...but... I don't think I'd be able to make it back to my own apartment. I shouldn't be behind the wheel for long." "Of course there's nothing wrong with that." He continued to beam at her, "Gotta make sure the officer gets home safely, got lives to save tomorrow. Besides, my place is in walking distance." The smile lingered on his face a while longer before she pulled herself up to kiss him. While a bit surprised, the drunken sensation allowed that to pass as he held her close, his hand on the small of her back to press her tight to him. God it felt so good just to feel a woman pressed against him, it had been such a long time. "Of course, if you don't want me to stay I'll go home." "Yeah ... right." No sooner had the kiss broke did he step back from her and latched onto a hand before practically dragging Cara down the street toward his apartment; staggering all the way. |
