The Sorrow Eater ~ Vampire Council Member

It wasn't like Masaru to go fishing around about information about his fellow council members. In fact, he found the entire excersise boring and had no real reasons for doing so. However, this certain piece of information had simply dropped into his lap, quite literally, and he wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. Three nights prior, he had been hunting when he had stumbled across an unannounced master vampire, who had screamed and yelled extremely psychotically at him that a certain council member had killed a member of the harlequin long back, to prevent the original council from carrying out a task. What exactly the task entailed was not entirely important – what was important was that Isadora had, against the wishes of the original council, killed a member of the harlequin in secret, and she had never been punished for it. Masaru had killed the rogue, but what the vampire had said had concerned him. The fact she had not been punished was not a concern to him. What was, was the fact that she had disregarded the old council's rules, which made her a suspect regarding their disappearance. Masaru had found the information unnerving, however he realized that if any of the other council members were to realize such a thing, there would be no good end for Isadora. So first, before he leaked the information to his fellow council members, he had decided to confront the child vampire. He wondered if she had tried to keep it secret all this time. Walking through the doors of the chambers, his face was completely blank, his movements undisguised – he did not want to alarm Isadora or even pretend that he was sneaking in. Once he saw her, he did not smile, did not wave. He simply said the name of the harlequin she had killed, and waited for some sort of reaction, some sort of sign that she had actually done the task. “Il Capitano.” |

Of course the moment Masaru had entered her wing of the Ossuary Isadora was aware of it. It irritated her beyond belief that he would disreguard protocal and manners and enter her lair without prior permission or consultation, she turned as he entered her inner most chambers her private sanctum she rarely let her subordinates enter let alone her rivals. Her fellow councilmens face showed no evidence of his motives, his face a perfect mask. From the moment he had passed through the doors to 'The Playground' he made no effort to conceal himself nor do anything to provoke anything from her but curiousity. When at last he found his way to her, his lips parted and his motives were atlast revealed. "Il Capitano." Isadora raised an eyebrowl it has been centuries since she had last heard that name, a name that as far as she was concerned significied her greatest triumph against the former council in a war intended to destroy her. It had been a shock to find out in latter centuries that her triumph had been kept a secret by her enemies, her greatest moment and the embarrasment she had caused the former Council hidden from the world. She couldn't help but wonder what the asian Vampires intentions were this knowledge alone would cement Isadora amongst the ranks of the greatest and most powerful vampires, not that she wasn't already there. Fearing his intentions she desided to brush away her pride, should would play for now. "I have never been fond of the Commedia dell'arte." She replied casually, her lips twisting in a thin smile as she turned back to the papers she had been reading over. He had come uninvited to her study and even one as high as she had work to do. "I'm not sure if this is an admission or an accusation Masaru are you accusing me of boasting? or of cowardise?" Stacking the papers into a neat pile she turned in her swival chair to face the Sorrow Eater, her hands cupped together in her lap and her small legs dangling from the edge of the seat her feet inches from the ground. She tilted her head curiously. Isadora had always underestimated Masaru assuming his lack of power also meant a lack of intelligence for the moment she regretted this as she waited for the game to progress, she had yet to be proven incorrect. |

“It is not Italian theater that I refer to.” Masaru commented, watching her actions carefully as he seemingly leant against the wall casually. “I am not accusing you of boasting nor cowardice, but rather, of something else entirely.” His demeanor was calm, calculating. Masaru knew that he should not whisper the harlequins name unless they needed to be used, lest they accidentally summon them. The last thing Masaru wanted was to be overheard... or to have the harlequin find out who had killed their ally so long ago. No, that would not do at all. “Recently, I came across some interesting information, Kinslayer. Information regarding yourself. I was not aware of your previous...circumstances, so to speak.” He left the actual deed unnamed, just in case she had servants nearby she did not want to overhear such a tender bit of information. “I suggest we find somewhere more private.” He stated, assuming she had somewhere more private than just her general chambers. Masaru knew that most of the council had somewhere in their chambers that they conducted private business – he certainly did. It was necessary for keeping information purely between two people – servants tended to gossip, and whilst he did not mind if the belonged to someone else, he did mind when they said things that they should not about himself and his kiss. “It would be most unfortunate for the council to find out that any of its members had committed a slight against the mother herself. I couldn't even imagine the consequences, don't you agree? Some crimes against the council cannot be forgiven.” He brushed some of the hair on his face aside, thoughtfully remembering Isadora's reaction towards Nova's actions. “It would be a shame for Nova to outlive you, no?” Edited by Masaru, Jan 18 2009, 09:14 PM.

Already Masaru was proving irritating but still his actions confused her, it was clear he did not intend to denounce her infront of the rest of the council, for the moment anyway, an yet he still hung his discovery over her as if he now had some sort of power over her. She had to admire his bravery, very few vampires would deliberately seek out one who had defeated a harliquin but then very few were in position to exploit a vampire council member. Drestroying him would end this quickly but the death of Masaru in her chambers would mean the council would investigate his murder and use it as a chance to get the better of her, all vampires were oppitunists especially members of the council. He suggested they speak privately and Isadora strongly suspected the man was going to try and blackmail her as he tried back her against a wall. If she did not respond he could cause alot of trouble and to grant a private audience would confirm whatever the Sorrow Eater thought he knew. Outwardly Isadoras face still wore the mask of confusion, she knew the Sorrow Eat had her trapped and she didn't know how to proceed. “It would be a shame for Nova to outlive you, no?” The statement was like salt in a wound, she glared at Masaru and floated off her chair. Wordlessly she lead him to a small chamber, the door concealed by a large mural of herself. As she waited for him to enter she took a seat on a small golden throne. Painfully aware she had been manipulated and was playing right into the Sorrow Eaters hands, she was angry both at herself and the man before her. "Well then, What is it that you want?" She inquired bitterly when he entered the chamber and the the door had been closed. "Are you really so arrogant to think you can threaten me Sorrow Eater?" |

It was a very amused Masaru that followed Isadora into a small chamber, shutting the doors to the small room as she took a seat on what appeared to be a golden throne. “Ah Isadora, I would never attempt to threaten you.” He said with a smile. “You are the kinslayer, feared throughout half of europe.” He brushed a strand of hair out of his eyes, before walking up towards her at a human like pace. “In fact, I only know of one vampire who would not, and will never fear you. And she would be most unhappy to hear that you killed one of her most prized children as well.” No one had had contact with the mother in a very, very long time. However to presume her dead was foolish, and he expected, as most vampires did, that one day she would return and wreck havoc against all those who had every done wrong by her. The fear that she had killed off the old council still remained, and in truth, Masaru was playing with that idea. “What is it I want?” Masaru questioned out loud, though he had already decided upon the answer before even entering her chambers. “Indeed, what is it that I want? I have almost everything I need. There is only one thing that you could offer me, Isadora.” A smile played upon his lips once more. “Put quite bluntly, I wish for us to be in a relationship.” Surely Isadora of all people would understand the council connotations and implications of such a display, let alone the information that could be gathered between them by a union. It would help to frighten the other council members as well – it was a rare thing that any council members got along so well. If it were to the point where they were in a relationship...Masaru wondered if it had ever even been truly tried before. He wondered how much Isadora knew about her fellow council, and wondered even more about what other secrets she had hidden deep deep down. It was the perfect time to get an extremely high advantage over his fellow council member – having someone who always agreed with you in the council chambers was a distinct advantage, one that he could certainly deal with. |

Isadora raised an eyebrowl she was fairly sure she was being mocked by Masaru but was still powerless to do anything about it until he atleast revealed what it was he wanted from her. Her glare increased as the asian mans flattery was quickly followed by another threat. His threats were low blows first manipulating her dislike and anger at Nova and now the innate fear that every vampire in the world possessed of the Mother of All Darkness. Isadora was aware of the rumours that the mother had destroyed the former council, she found it unlikely however that she had not reclaimed her seat as Queen of the vampire world upon her reawakening and therefore she dismissed these rumours as false. Yet deep down Isadora still couldn't completely cast away the thought or fear that it was true. She found Masarus terms or desires confusing. It irritated her that he prolonged the moment, toyed with her obviously he knew what he wanted long before he entered her chamber nobody could be that foolish. No, the sorrow eater had thought about this every step and every move had been pre-determined by vampire and that only enfuriated her more. Still his terms were so... simple, as far as she was away they already had a relationship. They were collegues and rivals. Isadora the superior and Masaru the lesser. "A relationship?" She blinked innocently tilting her head slightly, her facial expressions appeared confused and her smile childish almost doll like. "You mean an alliance between the two of us?" She waited for more, surely this was not all he wanted perhaps he hoped to loot her wing for information about her activities and the identity of her spies under the guise of a political alliance? If that was the case he could own her for eternity and that just wouldn't do at all. She waited for further explanation perhaps there was a way to turn this to her advantage or she might have to risk destroying the foolish vampire before her. Isadora did not want risk enquiring anymore she did not want to give Masaru any ideas, if he was so dense not to use this situation to his advantage then she would not aid him. |

Masaru couldn't help smirking when Isadora asked about what sort of relationship he meant, almost laughing when she inquired about an alliance. He already saw them as being on mutual terms, and he was sure that she thought the same – he had been nothing but polite to her in the past. He stepped towards her, his hand reaching towards her face, fingers lingering on her cheek. He kneeled over so that they were practically at the same height. “Surely you are not so naïve, kinslayer? The relationship I speak of...” A smile played across his lips. Should he explain or should he simply demonstrate? How would she react? Surprised? Violently? The former would be disappointing – the latter would serve for even better blackmail purposes. It was with this that he pulled her rather forcefully towards him, before locking their lips together. His hands traced through her hair, before resting on her back. The rather chaste kiss lasted only a few seconds, before Masaru pulled back, a very definite smirk on his face. “A much much more complicated relationship than you were envisioning, my dear Kinslayer.” He said softly, almost arrogantly. “I wish for it to be public information...and so displays of affection are rather mandatory.” He played with the soft waves of her hair, before simply sitting back on the floor and laughing darkly. “Of course, if you'd rather I divulge the information that I happened to stumbled across, that is an acceptable option for me as well.” |

Isadora was perplexed by Masaru actions, she blinked. Supressed memories from her mortal life flooded her mind, the kiss of an older man. Lips that did not belong to Anton, her love, her only love. She should have reacted faster, over powered him, crushed him with her hands or will but it was over before the thought even occured, as if Masaru had manipulated her with his own power. As far as she was aware the Sorrow Eaters power delt with sorrow but he was of the Morte d'amour line and they delt with death perhaps he had paralysed her? She licked her lips, the taste of the man lingered on her lips, the scent of his power and touch she was suprised she expected him to taste different as if the colour of his skin would alter him somehow. The perfect doll like mask that was her face rippled with confusion as conflicting emotions fought within her, she almost felt as dirty as she had the night she had consemated her short lived marriage nothing like the sweet chaste kisses Anton would give her but at the sametime it felt good, it made her shiver as if the wrongness of it all was exciting and new. Finally Isadora reacted in the only way she knew how, rage. She glared at Masaru and sent her power out like a whip as if she was reprimanding a servant, she did not desire to kill him he had not crossed the line that far yet and last thing she needed was the vampire council to investigate his death and only doubly incriminating her. She would make sure Masaru felt pain however, she would not be bewitched by him nor embarrassed by him.So this was his plan all along, he had not wanted her information or her power he had wanted to embarrass and disgrace her and she, especially now could do little to stop it. "You would embarrass me Sorrow Eater?" She spat angrily, "Disgrace me and drag my name threw the dirt? No longer The Kinslayer whose name and territories are feared across Europe but the Sorrow Eaters Whore? I am old, what makes you think I would not die for the sake of my honour and name as one who slew another so feared across the vampire world that non dare speak their name then become the laughing stock of lesser Vampires?" Even she dared not speak the name of the Harliquin lest bring their wrath upon her, she had no doubt she would privail one on one but all of them she was not so sure as even she did not know their true number. Isadora continued to glare at Masaru, underneath her anger was guilt that she was betraying Antons memory because of her own actions, keeping her own safe and for survival would Anton still hold that against her? |

Isadora's confusion was obvious, and it only served to make Masaru more amused. Perhaps she was as innocent in the romance department as he had originally suspected, which would only humiliate her further. He took a step back as he finally felt her power flare, glad that he had not let down his guard as she literally lashed out at him metaphysically. It was not a pleasant experience, and the smirk on his face was replaced by cold, dark eyes that promised nothing good. Still, he supposed he had deserved it and let it slide. “You would perceive this relationship to be an embarrassment? A disgrace? I feel almost insulted, Kinslayer. To you, so far, I have not done anything that mere mortals have not.” Perhaps he was pushing her to argue more, frankly he did not care. If she wished to argue then they would, but he would get his way in the end. “I would think it an honor. And considering your past...complications, you should be greatful I have offered you such an easy way out.” He tapped his finger on his leg impatiently, his eyes locked onto hers as if intending to stare her down into the floor. She was a significant part in his plan in a few things, and if this failed to work then changes would have to be made that he didn't particularly want to make. “I do not care if you live or die, but know this. Should you die, I will be the one oathing those underneath you. I will be taking over your previous territories, and people will begin to wonder how and why the supposedly great and powerful Kinslayer died, and how exactly I, of all people, came to take your posessions. And if they should so ask me then...” He leant in close to her once more, his fingers tracing her delicate features, his eyes still hollow and dark. “The things I would say would do more than just tarnish your name.” |

Isadora swatted away Masarus hand and moved away from the other vampires reach. She was furious and knew she was in a very bad position. In the constant game of chess that vampire politics was she was in check with little or no room to move. All she could do was prolong the inevitable in the hope that the single remaining pawn made it to the other end of the board and another piece could be called back into play. She had endured worse treatment then Masarus touche and if worst came to worst there were still options. For now all she'd have to do is swallow her pride and accept that she had been played and beaten by an inferior creature. Isadora looked at up Masaru, for once her face clearly showing the emotions she felt. She would accept his offer, do what she must until the moment came to undo him and she would make him pay. "What would you have of me?" She asked bitterly. All she could do was negotiate and hopefuly play him down, she would not submit too easily. "To become a doll on your arm and smile at command? A mere toy to indulge your ego? I find it hard to believe your demands, however degrading they are for me, could be so... so simple. Why not gold or land?" Despite Masaru proving his affections were more inclined to the younger bodied she did not believe the Sorrow Eater or any vampire who made it to the Council level would waste such an oppitunity as this. He could demand gold or the annexation of any of her cities, yet she did not. He asked for her, her vote on the council she could understand but it was not that...or just that it was her.. physically. What ever the case, he had not gone to the council yet so there was still hope. He could play his games but she would get her own back one way or the other. |
