Shiina | The Undead One
|
The second branch of Shiina's businesses was almost ready to be opened. In two nights' time, the final finishing touches would be complete and The Embrace's doors would be open to all. Quite proud of her achievement, Shiina walked up the stairs into the main part of the building that was to be open to the public. For tonight, it was set up for her to meet a very special guest. One of the council members she'd not yet become acquainted with was to come and meet with her tonight. Lights around the bar, main stage and part of the dancefloor were all turned on while the rest of the complex remained in the darkness. In front of the stage, which was set up for a performance were two red leather lounges and a small coffee table. It appeared as if a spotlight had been lit onto one corner of the building while the rest seemed to have held otherworldly ghostly spectators somewhere in the darkness. It was the setting that resembled something out of a horror movie... Just the way she liked it. Walking through the back door of the club, her heels clicked and echoed on the wooden floors as she entered the bar and placed a bottle of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild on ice. She checked her own reflection in the mirror behind the shelves of liquor. As expected, not a hair was out of place on her perfectly styled head. Carefully applied makeup still looked just as it did when she last checked it and matched her silken blue and black corset and long black skirt. Satisfied with her own appearance and with the setting of the club, she pondered about her guest for that evening. She didn't doubt for a second that the setting was overdone or inappropriate. If there was one group of guests she would ever wish to impress, it would be the council. There was just something about the seven of them that lead them to compete in games of grandstanding which as much as she denied it and as much pleasure as she took going to council meetings in casual street wear while the rest of them dressed formally, she still couldn't resist. It would be rather interesting to see if her visitor felt the same way and what his view on the council was. She'd heard some rumors about him, such as those of his conflicts with The Sorrow Eater - which automatically put him in her good books. She grinned at the thought of Masaru and how she simply adored getting under his skin... but then again, he was an easy one to annoy. With those thoughts, she glanced at the clock under the counter. It read 8:59. One more minute.... |

Sage smirked at his appearance in the reflective surface of the limousine as it pulled up and just as quickly the passenger side would be opened by his attending entourage of bodyguards. The sleek black Armani three piece suit draped him perfectly as he spent another second admiring himself. "Tell the driver we can't be late. I want you to take a seat up there with him. You other three will sit with me. I doubt we'll see any conflict this evening at the club, but I can't speak for whatever else we may face." Lately he's been receiving a few more death threats then usual, a few of them had been expected but his instinct instructed him to gather the usual entourage of walking meat shields. It would take a trained eye to perceive the weaponry hidden beneath their tailored coats, but only an idiot would think that uniformed vampires that were escorting a council member would have anything less then weapons upon their person. They'd nod in turn and take their places within the limousine as Sage would soon slide into his seat. Fifteen minutes passed until they arrived at their destination and ahead of schedule, the ride over had been relatively quiet and yet Sage went over everything that he knew about this particular council member, she could be a potential ally or a formidable opponent by the end of the evening depending on how things turned out . No formal introduction had ever passed between the two even in the brief meetings to discuss council matters. "Stay here and guard the vehicle, remain discreet and try not to kill anyone this time around." Polished Gucci leather loafers clicked sharply upon the cement as he nodded to the doorman, a rather freakish looking man as his biceps alone looked like to the be the equal to his thigh. Sage never could understand why a majority of vampire owned clubs and lounges seemed to employ the undead muscle builder types. From what he could sense this one was barely over a century into his undeath. At least The Embrace didn't seem to deviate from the stereotypical pomp and circumstance that most clubs seemed to have these days. "I'm here to see your employer. She's expecting me." The bouncer in turn would nod and step aside to let Sage in. Through an ornate lobby and hallway he'd soon enter one of the main rooms, accompanied by an attendant who had lead him here. "My my, I do have to say you've situated yourself nicely here." He'd greet Shiina with a genuinely charming smile. "I've heard so much about this business of yours and I'm quite happy to see that everything said holds truth." |

Shiina | The Undead One
|
A presence from the shadows caught Shiina's attention. The clock now read 9:00 PM. A familiar aura emanated from the darkness attempting to grab her attention. For a second, Shiina appeared to ignore the aura, continuing about her business. However, when addressed, the source of the aura answered with a voice all too known to her mistress. "Four goons. So heavily armed I could smell the metal on them. No pursuers. No other signs of trouble either." "I hope you're wearing something that shows a lot of skin." Shiina said to the aura in the darkness as she fumbled a bit around the bar. "I expect the 'goons' to be men. And they will need something to keep them... occupied. I don't like goons or weapons in my bar. Even when the whole place is empty." This was true. Bodyguards with weapons meant whoever brought them there was expecting trouble. This wasn't the message she was hoping to relay in her place of business, which she'd worked so hard to set up and keep safe. Turning to face the aura she spoke again "Well. Get moving!" Not long after Ruby disappeared into the darkness to go on her mission to distract the bodyguards, footsteps echoed from the main hallway. Two figures emerged from the big glassy entrance near the VIP area stairwell. One of the two was a staff member of The Embrace, a small Asian werewolf known as Kris. The other was most definitely the guest Shiina had been expecting. He was a tall, dark (even somewhat handsome) man. Fashionably dressed, he was a vampire oozing with power and demanding all eyes on him with every step he took. He had to be none other than Sage. "...I've heard so much about this business of yours and I'm quite happy to see that everything said holds truth." She smiled her friendliest smile as he spoke to her. Every council member she'd met so far (Isadora excluded) had begun their meeting with some form of flattery and friendly remarks. They never lasted long. She didn't know much about Sage so far, so tonight, she'd suss him out... Find out what he was about. It was entirely possible that he could become a valued ally by the end of the evening. It was equally possible that he could be a bleeding heart like Nova or Masaru and an allyship would be something far from what they would have. And she really didn't need another hippie vampire on the council. "Of course. You should see it when it's full in two nights' time. I expect it'll be quite a sight..." Naturally, most of the club was in the dark now save for a few dimly and carefully lit key areas. (Not that it mattered much to the vampires). When the whole club was open, everything would be visible under human eye and the whole club would come alive. Hopefully she and Sage would remain on good terms up until then. "Welcome to my humble place of business my fellow council member." As she spoke, she stepped towards her guest, walking with perfect poise until they were barely a couple of feet apart. A small bow of the head as sign of respect followed the aforementioned words. The next sentence was accompanied by a welcoming gesture, motioning her guest to proceed further into the main room. "Please... won't you come.. make yourself comfortable... I suspect we have much to cover tonight..." |

"Thank you for inviting me, a pleasure to finally meet you." Sage replied in turn, a pleasant facade eclipsing him as he mentally noted the tried and true if not tiredly overplayed sense of hospitality that the others seemed to embrace so readily. Though such things were often required to maintain a sense of balance. Sometimes he wished there were other ways to maintain that balance, but he doubted such things could exist between the Council members, each of them plotting in their own little ways, himself not excluded from such things. "I'll be sure to come back once everything is settling and bustling with life." He'd quip with a slight smile, his eyes washing over his surroundings as the ambient light allowed him to see the mostly finished club, Eventually he'd nod, an acceptance of her gesture as he'd progress further into the club, a peculiar sense of sterility seemed to linger within his mind as everything seemed to be placed perfectly and while he found the perfectionism endearing it also worried him, tangible thoughts intertwining within the depths of his mind and yet the chaos remained hidden beneath his carefully insightful eyes. "Must have taken you awhile to acquire the land rights for this place." Time meant very little to a majority of the master vampires, but some still lived their lives upon a mortal clock, trying to obtain power in the span of weeks and months, instead of biding their time through years and decades. "We have much to discuss and I feel I must apologize for my escorts outside." He'd flippantly point towards the general direction of where his bodyguards were outside, "I promise that they'll behave, if not you may discipline the offenders." Sage could have gone further, perhaps explaining why he left underneath armed guard, but such things could be revealed later. He'd adjust the onyx cuff links upon his button down, a subconscious gesture as he'd eventually settle down upon a plush leather seat, adjusting the hem line of his slacks until they were the very form of perfection in his mind. The only thing that kept him on edge about his appearance was the new honey wax pomade he had eyed while buying another suit at Neiman Marcus, so far he enjoyed the scent and was more or less satisfied with its hold. "Where shall we begin?" |

Shiina | The Undead One

"And likewise to you. And I shall look forward to seeing you again... Though perhaps we should focus on tonight to begin with." The vampiress smiled in response to her guest. A fake façade to please a particular subject was one of Shiina's specialities. Depending on who she was playing, she could usually keep an act up for quite a while. It was only when others around her go the same idea that she would get bored and change her act to mostly the opposite of what she'd be expected to do. She wondered for a moment if Sage was the same. A brief introduction so far had revealed he was good at the meet-and-greet game. He wore his façade, his social mask well. There was nothing awkward or unsure about the way he moved. He even knew when to apologise for the first mistake he'd made and amend it before any normal human or vampire would have even noticed it was made. "As one might expect." She said in response to his offering his employees lives into her hands should they prove to be problematic. She'd take him for his words without hesitation if the need arose. Though if all hell broke loose, somehow she doubted the servants would really be the biggest problem there. She had to wonder how much security the goons really were to a man that could most likely kill them all with a thought. Well, probably as much security as her bouncer really. He was mostly there for show and keeping the small fry outside. The real security on detail were Ruby & Lexi who were watching the four armed guards as their masters spoke. Having the both of them on call was probably a little bit of an overkill, but the last time she had been at a meeting at one of council's businesses, there was a revenant attack. So one could never be too safe. As little as the possibility of such a thing reoccurring where they were may be. As he took a seat and spoke, Shiina walked over to the bar and grabbed two wine glasses which she then set on the small table near the stage where her guest was making small talk. "Not as long as you'd think... It was sort of a last minute acquisition." Which was true. And by 'last minute acquisition' she meant 'I bullied the original land owner with my vampire viles into signing over the papers when I decided I wanted another bar'. "It was keeping it that was the tricky bit." She laughed. "When dead bodies, revenant vampires and the occasional insane rogue werewolf start popping up around your construction site half way through the project's completion, human councils tend to get a bit... touchy. Quite fortunately I had the right people on the job." with that, she poured the wine in each glass and took her own seat opposite Sage on the plush red leather couch, smoothing out her stubborn silken skirt which she'd only just decided was indeed quite a perfect garment for the occasion. The cut on the skirt extending form her thigh to her ankles split and fell around her long legs, exposing their smooth, milky flesh as she lounged. She swirled her wine in her glass as if studying it. In fact, she was more curious about her visitor's reaction to the comment about people and things dying on the construction site and just how uncomfortable it'd make him. "And I'm glad you asked." She said in response to when he asked when they'd begin. As far as she was concerned, she had already begun. "I hope you don't mind I've got a very special audition for a performer tonight. I hear she's quite a talented young lady hoping to sing here on a regular basis with the house band..." Upon Sage's response, she'd give signal to one of her servants to bring out Miss Mary Rose onto the stage. What she'd said about her being talented was true. Actually, Shiina had been looking for the perfect candidate for tonight for a little while. Sweet, innocent twenty-two year old songstress Mary was just perfect. And although she was in fact there for an audition, she definitely wouldn't be getting the job. Well, she might if by some odd chance she survived the audition- which was an unlikely scenario to occur... |

"A pity when such disturbances distract us from our own goals." Sage would say in turn in regards to her problems with those trespassing upon her land. Though he had heard some rather pleasant rumors of how they've been dealt with, granted a few slipped through but such things were to be expected, acceptable losses. Though it wouldn't be the first time when land which belonged to someone in the council would wind up having certain problems, oddly enough such problems seemed to revolve around ill disposed bodies. Thankfully the human condition was plagued by fleeting bouts of greed and temporal political gains, so that made removing such incidents from investigation a breeze. If nothing else the offenders who tried to garner more information would wind up with a clinical case of decapitation. A pleasant smile creased his lips, "I don't mind, I'm sure it'll provide adequate amusement for the evening." If nothing else it'd give him some insight on how she'd operate her business affairs, though experience taught him that he'd probably only see an angle of the whole picture. A woman would walk out, seemingly dressed in her finest gown, one of the lower name brand French designers that Sage hadn't been bothered to learn, though it did seem to have a faint trace of inspiration taken from Louis Vuitton's winter season from a couple years ago. Sage settled back in his seat, eying the poured wine. Naturally he'd let the wine air itself, a learned habit when it came to wine connoisseurs. Unfortunately he'd be unable to abide much of the alcohol unless it was heavily laced with blood, in the past the outrageous idea of combining the two seemed unfathomable but eventually he learned to get past such things if he wanted to enjoy the subtle aroma, taste and feel of wine once again. He'd have to find some to mix into this wine, otherwise he'd be forced to just glare at the red wine as its sweet aroma seemingly teased him. "Hm, what does she have to do to become part of the band? Sing, dance, play a musical instrument?" |

Shiina | The Undead One
|
The mere sight of the young, fleshy Miss Rose made Shiina's tongue dance behind her sharp fangs and ruby-red lips. She would be patient tonight and not give into the temptation to make a tear in the young woman's succulent flesh and watch it bleed. Not yet. But when she did, it would be quite a treat to do so. She would bleed well all over that pretty gown she was wrapped in. The young one smiled and uttered a small 'good evening' to that would have looked like two overdressed and equally overconfident vampires lounging before her. "Good evening Miss Rose. My name is Sarah McCay. I am the owner of this establishment." Without diverting her gaze from the girl, Shiina pointed with her whole hand to Sage. "And this is my associate, Xavier Sage. You may begin whenever you're ready. Miss Rose." "Hm, what does she have to do to become part of the band? Sing, dance, play a musical instrument?" Sage asked Shiina as the girl set herself up to perform. "Tonight she will sing for us. And to become a part of my house band, she must sing well... well enough for me to spare her life when she's finished." Mary Rose looked nervous as hell to be performing in front of the vampires. So whether she actuallly heard Shiina's remark or not was not aparent. She smiled politely at her audience and gave an affirmative nod to a person behind her holding an acoustic guitar. The music began to play and Miss Rose began to sway as she sang. After a few lines Shiina recognised the song as 'Who Will Save Your Soul' by a singer rather reminiscent of Miss Rose; a young woman that goes by 'Jewel'. The vampiress began to wonder if the girl knew initially that she would be performing for the undead. The song was just plain offensive to anyone of the eternally damned. But then again, it could be a honest oversight or a mistake. For a good human employer, the song would have been rather appropriate givent he current situation with the preternatural community. But since Shiina was far from human, or even humaine, it wasn't what she would have chosen. Whichever her reason for choosing it was, Shiina smiled and waited for the girl to finish up politely. As the human girl sang, the vampire mistress turned to her guest, surveying his reaction to the blatantly religious song. When the music ceased, silence fell over the room. Mary Rose looked as nervous as she could be as she awaited her judges' reaction. The next part was to be a special show for Shiina's vampire guest. She did not addressed him as to get his reaction on what he had just seen. She instead spoke quite assertively, watching him out of the corner of her eye. “Tell me, Miss Rose, a bit about you... your life. Do you think it is too short to be wasted?" |

Mary Rose -- 22 -- Singer / Songwriter Mary Rose had poured her heart and soul into just that one song - or at least, this was what the young blonde singer/songwriter had attempted to do. Her old singing teacher had always told her that no matter the song she was singing, there was always a message that could be conveyed to the audience, and it was her job as a performer to try and send that message across, no matter what the cost. Her brothers and sisters back in Scotland were counting on it. If she didn't get this job, she had no idea what she would do - they were expecting her to be able to support them. She'd spent her last dime on flying to Paris, and quite possibly her entire family's future depended just on this one performance. Biting down on the inside of her cheek as she struck the final chord of the song, sang the final note.. she awaited their reactions impatiently. Their faces were surprisingly blank; she'd been expecting some kind of reaction, be it negative or positive, at least something. A slight shiver ran up her spine as the beautiful woman spoke - she couldn't help but feel somewhat plain sitting next to somebody so.. unnaturally flawless. It made her want to fidget - to do something with her hands - but she managed to restrain herself. "I believe life is what you make it, ma'am.." She began hesitantly, unsure at first of what to say. "I'm a twenty two year old gal in Paris jus' lookin' for a job, to support my family.. I love to sing, ma'am, and I promise you that if you even consider me to work at your bar, I'll do everything in my power to make every performance the best it can possibly be." Her words were sincere, and although she did what she could not to sound desperate, her eyes were pleading as Mary Rose looked between the two vampires. "Life is much, much too short to waste, and I hope to spend my time well working for you, if you'll allow me to do so." |
