The duality of his life sometimes warred with one another. His human side was a diurnal, yet the wolf side was usually nocturnal, spending its days lazing about and sleeping, where the human side wanted to be most active. Sometimes the two did not play very well together, and Matthew could be found up or asleep at nearly any time of the day. This night he had been up and prowling the night, more out for a walk than anything. Oddly enough for him, he had stayed in his human guise rather than that of the wolf. Partly to keep up to spec with his job, as no lost hikers would appreciate a large wolf stepping up to where they were lost at, and partly because he just enjoyed walking at night sometimes. It had been an hour or so before dawn that he had returned to the house, keeping the noise down incase Jocelyn was asleep in her room. He was up in his room and stretched out on the bed in a matter of minutes. Still not entirely adjusted to the setting, Matthew had kept his clothes on and slept on top of the blankets, feet planted on the floor still in his boots. Sleep came quick to the werewolf, as it always did. A running joke was that Matt could fall asleep in the middle of a warzone without a second’s hesitation and sleep like a baby. It was true enough, Matt never had any problems falling asleep when he wanted to, and his sleep was usually light, his senses alerting him to anything different that might happen in his immediate vicinity. Joss moving about was now nearly second nature to him, and her moving about barely woke him enough to register what it was before falling back asleep. The smell of food reached him as well, stirring both sides enough for the man to fully wake up. With a yawn, Matthew pulled himself up and out of the bed. Golden eyes glanced around for a moment before he moved out of his room and towards the bathroom. “Mmm, breakfast smells good Joss!” Matthew spoke up down the steps as he passed and moved into the bathroom. A few moments later, Matthew dried off freshly washed hands and went down the stairs. Much to his surprise, he couldn’t find Jocelyn anywhere in the downstairs of the house. On the other hand, she did do a lot of things and could be anywhere. Chuckling to himself, he set about finding the source of the delicious aroma that floated about the house. It took a minute, but quick detective work and Matt had the plate out of the oven, the oven shut off from the low setting, and the plate on the table. Partway through the plate, and a feeling of sudden unease settled over the lycanthrope. There weren’t any psychic connections or the like, but he couldn’t shake the feeling, and got up, heading towards the door. Grabbing the loose fitting leather side bag and slinging it over his head (a gift from Joss, the straps were just the right size to fit over his wolven form, Matt remembered the time spent adjusting them with a brief smile every time he picked the bag up). Stepping outside, Matthew took a deep breath of the fresh air, releasing it slowly as he tried to banish the sinking feeling in his gut. “Joss? Jocelyn?!” Matthew shouted her name twice more, looking at the chairs, the unused paint, and then glanced around the immediate vicinity. Frowning with her nowhere in sight, Matthew moved over towards the chairs, lightly testing the air as he did. Catching a light scent of coconut that Matt knew was in her shampoo, he followed the scent a few more feet to be certain he had the direction right. Once he was sure of where she had gone, he took off at a steady run, opting for his human guise in the daylight. It was only once he saw the small pools of blood that he kicked it into high gear and ran at a near sprint following the now heavy scent of blood in the air. Sudden gunshots and screams served to increase the worry, and bring to mind just gory bloodshed and death to his mind. Banishing the thought, Matthew pushed on until he stopped for a moment as he came upon the scene of all the action, or where the action had apparently taken place. Jason in his wolf form, lying next to Joss; Joss was on hand and knees, one arm dangling useless it appeared. Just what the hell had happened here? Matthew tried to scent the aid, but the smell of blood was too strong, the other smells of the wolves barely there. Someone else had to have done this though…there’s no way Joss would hurt the Ulfric…even if she could hurt him. And there was no reason the Jason would harm Joss, which left another person unaccounted for. His world hazed over, a thin sheen of crimson overlapping everything like a thin red veil. His lycanthropic energy washed out of him, uncontrolled as he looked around quickly, seeing if the third party could be found visually. He couldn’t find anything though, and as ready to rip the bastard that did this apart chunk of flesh by chunk of flesh at a time, he knew that he had to help his pack mates, and moved towards them quickly as the training in first aid he had from search and rescue came to the forefront. Visually inspecting the two, Joss seemed the worse off, and she seemed too traumatized to shift herself. Dropping to his knees in front of Joss, the leather bag slung off and set beside him, Matthew began to rummage around inside. “Joss, it’s Matt, you gotta listen to me, okay? I need you to stay still right now. Whoever it was that hurt you ain’t gonna hurt you again, alright? Alright, this is only gonna take me a sec.” Matt would keep eye contact with Joss for a few moments until she’d see and recognize him, then he’d go to work pulling a few things he usually carried in the bag out. Bottle of water to clean off most of the blood; a plain t-shirt that he quickly ripped into a tiny cloth and another longer cloth that he would use to temporarily bind up her arm and shoulder long enough for the rapid lycanthropic healing to start doing some good. |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss had to pause in her crawling as a wave of nausea washed over her. The smell of blood ripe in her nose, both her own an Jasons. Plus her wolf panic pacing inside her and her not understanding it's sudden need to get out. Joss was breathing heaving taking deep breaths and swallowing trying to h old the vomit back. Her head lifted as if sensing her Ulfric as he moved beside her. She knew he was hurt too. And must be exhausted with all the shifting as he was now back in wolven form. She groaned leaning against him still breathing deeply. Her eyes closed as they just rested there a moment. Tears still trickling down her cheek as the bleeding once again stopped in her shoulder, though her shirt was completely soaked all the way down to the waist of her jeans, The point blank hole through her shoulder was closing. A hole you could have seen through at impact, and in a human still be able to, was nearly closed now. The longer she didn't move the further it healed. Her eyes closed for a moment. A sound, a footstep and her eyes snapped open frantically. Had their attacker doubled back coming to finish them off. Joss whimpered in fear. Suddenly she felt the brush of the slightly wild energy she was familiar with. The whimper changed. knowing it was Matt and somehow she was suddenly both relieved and frantic. MOving upright again. Whimpering as she tried to put weight on her arm. Suddenly Matt was before her filling her complete line of vision. Tears were wildly running down her cheeks again as she saw him. A light in the darkness that was filling her. She almost laughed as he said it was him. Like she wouldn't recognize him. Her heart panged in her chest as he spoke of whoever did this never hurting her again. She laughed but tried to stay still as he instructed. She returned the staring into his eyes. Her muddles hazel ones almost getting lost in his Golden hues. So badly she wanted to just crawl forward and curl against him. But he wante her still and so still she stayed. "Jason... was shot... and bit... lots of blood gone..." Joss said more worried about her Ulfric then herself for a moment as Nate set about pulling things from the bag she had bought him so he could carry his clothes with him when he went for long aimless runs. Her mind actually going back to the fun they'd, well she'd had, fitting the bag's strap so it was big enough to be around his massive wolf form without falling off or choking him. Matt had only given her pleasant memories and yet she always seemed to be coming to him after bad stuff happened to her. She resolved to fix that. To give him pleasant things too. Her eyes followed what he was doing as she tried not to move. Perching there on three limbs. She glanced at the exhausted Jason beside her. She wasn't even sure what all had gone down. She hadn't even understood anything she had been involved in. Only that the dark haired wolfess was crazy and shot with no provocation or need. "She was crazy Matt... and I made it worse... I made it worse." Joss whispered. Edited by Jocelyn, Jan 3 2009, 06:20 PM.

Ulfric // Emi's Beau

The pain in Jason's leg was minimal now as the shifting had helped a great deal to knit the shredded muscle over the exposed bone. The only real telltale physical sign of his injury was the mass of matted fur around his thigh that smelled distinctly of blood. In reality it was the loss of blood that had weakened him, the thick artery that had been torn open had squirted out blood with abandon and with every beat his heart. At least that had stopped. Jason wanted to just relax and close his eyes for a little bit now to let his body rejuvenate and heal completely before he stood up. But it was Jocelyn's low and strained noises of her pain that pulled at him and kept the wolf from falling asleep (or perhaps fall unconscious). He needed to get her back to the Safe House so that her wound could properly be attended to, but she was in no shape to move and he was not yet ready to shift again. No doubt if he tried to revert back to human form he would pass out. Though the sound of movement nearby had at first been unsettling, the feel of Matthew's aura rolling over them was a comfort. At least it was not the woman returning to try and force more information from Jason about Emily. ... Goldilocks. He needed to warn her and yet he did not want to worry her yet either. The man was torn. "Jason... was shot... and bit... lots of blood gone..." A low grunt came from Jason's throat upon hearing Jocelyn begin to explain to the Bolverk what had happened, though his head still rested flat on the ground. The cool dirt felt good on his underbelly and he focused on the sensation as well as listening to the rummaging as Jocelyn's wounds were tended to, "She was crazy Matt... and I made it worse... I made it worse." The dark brown and tawny male snorted at that, blowing out dust from in front of his snout before his head lifted and regarded the submissive. His head moved from side to side, akin to shaking his head at her before Jason began to push himself upright with his front paws. The movements were slow until he finally rested back on his haunches. |

A few more minutes’ worth of work, and the Bolverk had the shoulder bundled up nice and tight for optimal non-hospital healing. Rubbing her other shoulder, Matt listened intently as Joss explained the situation. At the mention of Jason being injured, Matthew looked over to the wolf, looking for any injuries. He saw signs of where possible injuries might have been, but nothing definitive. “I don’t think we need to worry about Jason. He isn’t dead, and it’ll take more than a little scuffle to bring him down.” As if to emphasize the point, Jason had risen up some, sitting back though still in wolf form. Gently pulling Jocelyn closer, Matt knew the benefits to being close to others of the Pack, but beyond the simple slight boost in healing, he also knew it would be comforting to her as she explained more about their assailant. Though he didn’t expect it to have been a woman, the knowledge made little difference to the Bolverk. Sliding his arm fully around Joss now, on her good side, Matt moved to help her to her feet, testing whether he would carry her or not back to the pack’s safe house. “You don’t have to worry about her Joss, you couldn’t have known what was going on, just don’t worry about it. Focus on getting better. I’ll focus on taking care of her.” He paused for a moment, thinking for a second. Should she stumble or show any signs of falling, Matthew would quickly scoop her up into his arms rather than let her fall. “Breakfast was good by the way, I appreciate it.” Matthew smiled at her, and then turned his attention towards Jason. His gaze was questioning towards the Ulfric, wanting his opinion on what the next course of action should be. His aura still raged wildly, both him and his wolf, one and the same honestly, just waiting for the simple nod of permission to find and remove their problem or the shake that would stay his hand on the matter. |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Jocelyn turned to look at Jason as Matt did. Seeing only some matted fur but no real injury. He was Ulfric. He was alpha. Of course he would heal faster then her. Joss winced as Matt finished tying off her shoulder. Her arm bound to her torso now. A feeling of helplessness and unbalance made her uncomfortable as well as her wolf pacing just under the surface. Calmed only by Matt's Aura pressing in on them. Joss gasped and sighed as Matt pulled her close. She curled into his embrace, not wanting to go anywhere but basking in his warmth and power. She felt so small compared to it, and yet so comforted by it. She whimpered as his arm around her gripped her and pulled her towards her feet. She didn't want to move she just wanted to cuddle in his embrace. She was still shaking. Still in shock from being shot so ruthlessly. When he spoke of taking care of 'her' Joss turned swiftly on him. PUlling at the binding he had put her arm in she winced. "No Matt please. She's crazy she shoots first and... and talks about fictional characters. Please... no." JOss begged moving her good arm around him to pull herself closely to him. Her stomach was churning getting nauseous again as she move quickly and pulled at the bound arm. It was mostly still the shock that was keeping her unsteady. Her head tilted back to look up at him as he spoke of breakfast changing the subject so quickly her head spun and she stumbled to bring herself more tightly against him. Her front pressed to his. Though her head barely came up under his chin. "Please stay with me." She whispered against his chest. Not even seeing Matt looking to Jason for permission to hunt down the Rogue. Jason's word or command would completely outweigh her request. But she didn't even know it was going on. Most of her weight was leaned against Matt as she pressed her face to his chest. Letting him feel her shaking body as her arm tightened around his torso. She didn't want to loose or have hurt the one thing she cared about the most. "Please. I'll make you breakfast everyday." She whispered, begging softly against his chest, almost desperate. And she was convinced he might get hurt if he went after the crazy woman. Because no one could compete with crazy. Ulfric // Emi's Beau

With the gaze of the Bolverk on him, there was no question in Jason's mind what it was they were questioning. Naturally it was the Pack boogeyman's job to hunt down rogues and do the nasty deeds that others would not or could not do. So now Matthew was asking permission to hunt down the woman who had caused so much trouble and had injured both Jocelyn and himself. The wolf weighed the decision carefully, looking off from the two of them despite the weight of the other wolf's gaze. Jason knew that he needed to find out who she was and to fully understand what her connection was to his boss at PPIT. She was a danger to the Pack and to Emilia. She knew the name Goldilocks and had known the name Reaper. Only a select few that Jason was aware of would even know of those old nicknames. However the woman was a new shifter as well and no doubt being forced into a second shift within twenty-four hours would take its toll. Or would it? The strange resilence she had demonstrated before running away continued to puzzle the man and the beast. She was probably long gone by now. "Please stay with me." The soft plea cocked Jason's ear to one side before his head turned to look at Jocelyn curled up in the Bolverk's arms. Absently he wondered if Jocelyn was the only one who had the power to control the feral man, other than Jason. Finally his golden eyes shifted to Matthew and paused before the peeling sound of fur receding into flesh began to break the silence. Jason was once more willing the change, though it was much slower than normal for him (but much closer to a normal shift for anyone else). The blood loss had taken its toll and while the shifts were taxing, he knew that it would help to heal any remaining internal damage. "You won't be hunting, Matthew." He finally spoke once he was human again, now kneeling on the ground, "We should get back to the Safe House." |

The moment Jason turned away, Matt knew he had his answer. If he had to think about it, then whoever it was had given the Ulfric something to think about, and a reason to leave them alive, or alone for now. Matt knew Jason officially did what Matt had taken to doing on instinct of self preservation and protection of those around him. He’d wait for the answer though, because there was always that chance he was wrong. "No Matt please. She's crazy she shoots first and... and talks about fictional characters. Please... no." Matthew ran his other hand lightly through her hair, trying to comfort Joss as she spoke up about not wanting him to. “Don’t worry about me Joss, I can take care of myself, you know that. Nothing will happen to me.” Matt gave Joss a little squeeze, keeping her close so she’d calm down and try to relax a little. Everything was better when everyone was relaxed, or at least not panicked. ”Please stay with me. Please, I’ll make you breakfast everyday.” Matt smiled in spite of the situation, nuzzling against the top of her head for a few moments. “Don’t worry, I won’t be going anyway.” As if to confirm it, Jason had finally met Matthew’s eyes, echoing the response by announcing there wouldn’t be a hunt. Nodding his agreement about the safe house, Matthew dug around in his bag, and pulled out a pair of sweatpants. They’d be a short on Jason, but Matt wasn’t sure if his shift had ruined the man’s clothes or not. They’d be held out to Jason until the man took them, or declined and they were stuffed back into his bag. This would be followed by a quick shift of the bag and then Matt would scoop Joss up into his arms, cradling her against his chest. “Safe house sounds like a good idea.” With the destination decided, Matt moved and started the hike back to the house in question. “So, mind telling me what happened, or should it wait?” |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss actually trembled a little bit as Matt's hand ran through her hair. Her tear and blood stained face actually leaving a few stains on his shirt as she leaned in against his chest and tried desperately to hold onto him. As if he would suddenly leave her now. Her head shook as he tried to affirm to her that he could take care of himself and nothing would happen to him. She knew he was strong. KNew he could take care of himself. But this woman was crazy. This woman had hurt their Ulfric. Yes he could take care of himself and had healed. But still he had been hurt and Joss didn't know if she could handle Matt going off and getting hurt and her not there to attempt to take care of him. Her body was stiff in pain and fear as he held her closer. Even as he nuzzled the top of her head. Tears were fresh. She knew he was trying to placate her. But if Jason told him to take care of the woman even she couldn't stop him. The sound of Jason shifting again made Joss's wolf whine. It knew instinctivly that shifting would help Joss heal. But Joss was still fighting it. She trembled in Matt's embrace at the sound of Jason so easily shifting yet again. She felt shame in her ineptness. But that's what she liked about Matt and Jason too. Neither shoved her inability down her throat. Neither made fun of her or even brought it up. They were both so powerful and could do whatever they wanted. Part of her was actually aware that Matt might go after the woman in rage for what she had done to his packmates. Maybe even alone for the fact of what she had done to her. And Joss actually had mixed feelings as she didn't want him going after anyone because of her. But was touched to think he might. SHe also knew that if Jason didn't say anything Matt might do it on his own. Joss held her breath hoping that Jason had shifted in order to make clear his decree on a hunt. Jason announced that there was to be no hunt and Jocelyn finally relax ed against Matt. Her body shaking in a few silent sobs of relief as she released all that new pent up fear. Her good arm was still tight around Matt. Clutching at the back of his shirt as Jason spoke of returning to the safe house. She felt Matt shifting around and holding out something but her face was still pressed to his chest. She gasped as he suddenly scooper her up. Wincing at first as her bad arm dangled and pulled at her still healing shoulder. She reached and pulled the dead arm up to rest in her lap as Matt began carrying her back towards their home. The trembling finally subsided once she was in Matt's arms and he was refused the hunt. Her head cradled against his shoulder. When Matt asked what had happened she bit her lip. Loathe to admit to her stupidity about running to check out gunfire and falling into the woman's trap and being bait. She looked towards her Ulfric. "I came in after it was already started I think. Jason should tell it." JOss whispered. Better that her failures came from her Ulfric then from her mouth. She felt Matt would somehow be disappointed in her, or feel she was stupid for what she had done. And no matter what Jason said she had made the situation worse. "I just made things worse." She whispered. Edited by Jocelyn, Jan 5 2009, 05:52 AM.

The suggestion of going back to the Safe House seemed to have everyone in agreement as Jason looked between them. Right now the man was tired and just wanted to take a moment to relax and be with his thoughts. The fact that there was someone out there was trying to hunt Emilia set him on edge and he wanted nothing more than to be able to hunt the woman down, but too much time had been lost now. It would have been fruitless to attempt to locate her. Jason would simply have to take the knowledge and hunch that he did have and go with it. Jason would have rejected the offer of sweatpants if not for the fact that he would have to go back to his Blazer to get his clothes, "Thanks." He took the pants and yanked them up each leg. They were a bit short, coming above his ankles but it was just a minor annoyance and even then he really didn't care. At least now he was not nearly as exposed considering that both Matt and Jocelyn were clothed. “So, mind telling me what happened, or should it wait?” Jason followed along side Matt as the Bolverk carried Joss back to the Safe House. He did not answer the question immediately, "I came in after it was already started I think. Jason should tell it. I just made things worse." Jason felt his jaw tighten a fraction before he shook his head, "No Joss, you didn't. You had no idea what was going on." Truthfully he should have known that the gunshots would have alerted anyone nearby and the house was easily within earshot. He fell silent once more while considering whether or not to explain the situation or even how much to divulge, "She was a wolf. New though... very new. I had picked up her scent a few nights ago and decided to come out here to track it. Evidently she had used that abandoned den as a place to shift. To say the least she wasn't happy to see me." |

The Bolverk barked out a laugh, shaking his head slightly when Jason said she wasn’t happy to see him. “Apparently not happy to see either you or Joss.” Matt had a twisted sense of humor at times. The situation wasn’t really funny, even though Matthew had laughed a little at it. But he found that Jason was understating the situation. Jason apparently shot, then injured in the ensuing wolf fight, and poor Joss here looking as if she would have lost her arm had she not been a lycanthrope. Not happy was a very big understatement. He finished listening to the both of them, picking up on the general gist of the events that had preceded him. Jason had been doing some recon on the woman, found her unexpectedly by the sounds of things. Got shot, Joss heard and came. Damn he was getting rusty being in human form for longer periods of time than he had been in months. He slept through a gunshot, the Bolverk made a mental note to pick up his game a bit in the future. “The old den is a good place to shift though. Private and out of the way, safe almost.” “I don’t have to like it, but I vowed to follow your orders, so this she-wolf is safe from me so long as she doesn’t stick her nose too close to us again.” If she came around again, he’d make sure to tear her apart. Maybe just an arm or a leg at first, enough to give her a warning to not fuck with them; if she persisted, then he’d have to follow through completely; it’d be her death wish, not his then. Glancing down at Joss snuggled up against him and finally relaxed some, Matt smiled briefly at her. He enjoyed being close to her, though he wished it was under better circumstances. Maybe she’d like to go out for a bit after her arm and shoulder healed up. “Don’t worry Joss, you weren’t in the way, just need to be a little more careful next time.” Matt grinned at her, winking. “When we get you back to the safe house, I’ll snuggle up with ya. It’ll get ya feeling better in no time, promise.” |

"I didn't have any idea and I walked right in there and let her hold a gun to my head and bait you... talking all the mumbo jumbo." Joss said almost sleepily from within Matt's arms. She perked up though as Jason shared the fact that he had caught the scent of the newbie wolf a couple days ago. She had been coming to the lupanar? To shift or to stalk? That was the question. Her head jerked back and she stared at Matt with shock as he laughed. Jason's wording maybe hadn't been the best but Joss seriously had a moment to question MAtt's sense of humor. She layed her head back against his shoulder as he went on to agree to follow Jason's orders on not hunting the nutzo wolf. Maybe if they got a group together fine go hunt her. Joss just didn't want Matt going off alone without any back up. She'd be too worried to lose him and not even know what happened. Her heart seized in her chest for a moment at just that thought. No she couldn't loose Matt. She scoffed as Matt tried to console her about not being in the way. "I just need to be less nosy next time. The next time I hear gunshots I'm running the opposite direction." Joss tried to joke back. She didn't think she would be able to do that either though. If the gunshots were so close she would be worried that one of her pack would be hurt. She might not run off alone towards the shots now. But she wouldn't ignore them completely. Not like she said. Her head lifted from his shoulder again as he offered to snuggle with her once they were back to the house. She didn't have to ask? Joss was clueless to the benefit of snuggling or puppy piling with her packmates. She just knew she felt better after snuggling. Especially with Matt. And her heart beat had suddenly excellerated with his offer to do it. Even if he had made the excuse that it was to make her feel better. But the fact that he wanted to make her feel better was enough to give her hope. Maybe her feelings weren't so one sided? Maybe? She glanced at his face as he winked at her and she felt a tingle go through her hole body. She smiled with hope. Suddenly wondering if getting shot might turn out to be a good thing. Ulfric // Emi's Beau

"I had to confront her either way, Joss. I'm just sorry that you had to get shot before I reacted..." It was a tough admission for Jason, in a way feeling that he had let the girl down by not acting sooner. He should have been quicker to stop the woman from blatantly shooting Joss. After all he did have the means of stopping her, if only he had used it sooner. His jaw tightened in frustration but said little else, at least not until the Bolverk had barked a laugh at the comment that the woman had not been happy to see Jason or Joss. He curiously cocked his head to Matthew, mostly at the humor he found. Then again, they all probably needed a good laugh and Jason had let the sarcasm flow without really thinking about it. But regardless he nodded as the Bolverk admitted that he would defend the Pack if necessary should she show up again. The question was: would she? Obviously she was after Emi and had gathered enough from the encounter to know that Jason was connected to her. Some how Reaper and Goldilocks had been linked. "I understand. Though, if she should come around again... at least keep her alive long enough to answer some questions?" The tone in which Jason said it was strange, perhaps it was the military background that made him immune to not minding talking about someone being torn apart or killed. It more than likely played perfectly into Matt's own view and sense of humor of the world. The Pack House was coming up in the distance now, the trees giving way to the structure. The reassurance from Matt to Jocelyn that she would be alright and healed up made a hint of a smile tug at the corners of Jason's lips. It was strange to hear the 'boogeyman' of the Pack talking about snuggling. But Jason opted not to speak on it as they reached the porch and he mounted the steps with them before stopping to open the door and hold it open for Matt, "Go on inside ... I think I'll stay out here for a bit." |

“Fair enough.” He could leave the woman alive if she came around again. Incapacitated but alive. He had caught the scent, albeit weak due to the human senses, so he would know her if she came around. “And as for you…just call me first, let me know what’s going on and I’ll come help.” Looking at Joss, such a light weight in his arms, Matt couldn’t help but wonder how she managed to get into so much trouble. Chuckling slightly, Matt looked back up at the safe house that was now before them. ”Go on inside … I think I’ll stay out here for a bit.” Matthew nodded towards the Ulfric. “If you’re sure. It’d do you some good too. Looks like you’re already healed. Offer’s on the table.” Shrugging slightly, Matt turned back and moved up to the doors of the house. The nature of a lycanthrope was through touch, scent…unity. Male on male contact didn’t even draw a second glance from any but non-lycanthropes and new lycanthropes. It was theorized that the lycanthrope’s aura, the sheer heat and feel of the beast within, helped bring out another’s beast, and as their beast roused, assisted in the healing process and whatever mystical connections that being a lycanthrope had. Shrugging into the front door, Matt moved into the living area, gently setting Joss down on sofa. Flopping down beside her, Matt began undoing the wrappings of the makeshift bandages to see how much damage was left for her to heal. Edited by Matthew, Jan 6 2009, 09:59 AM.

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss sighed at the sight of the safe house looming before them. It was like an oasis in the desert. It was her home AND her safe place. And Matt was part of both. It wasn't just the house itself. But it's fellow occupant. Joss turned her head as Jason held the door for them but begged off coming inside. She gave him an apologetic look thinking that Matt's speech about cuddling fixing her up had perhaps made the Ulfric uncomfortable. Or sensing in that way that made him Ulfric that there was something else going on between them, not like cuddling wasn't an indicator all alone. Though it was Jason himself who had told her it was normal to crave the touch of her pack. But she supposed that he was trying to afford them SOME privacy and Joss felt bad about that. He had been hurt too. Joss's head snapped back to look at Matt as he offered to Jason too. To cuddle? Joss was never explained the function and so this statement caught her completely offguard and made her wonder if she had been reading the signals all wrong from Matt. She had hoped he was interested in her? But maybe he was more interested in their Ulfric and maybe just frustrated by the common knowledge that he HAD a girlfriend. Joss just glanced back at Jason as Matt carried her inside. A clear look of confusion dancing over her features. She sighed as Matt settled her onto their newly recovered sofa it wasn't till Matt started undoing the bandages he had tied on that she remembered her clothes were dirt and blood soaked and she was ruining their 'newish' furniture. "Gack." Joss cried out suddenly trying to get up and get her blood soaked self off the couch. But between Matt holding her arm, still not being stable and just plain moving to quickly she ended up swinging around to crash onto her ass right in front of Matt. She landed there and groaned tilting her head back into his lap. She stared up at him breathing heavy and feeling slightly stupid. She still couldn't feel her right arm. The muscles and ligaments and bones were still reknitting together in her shoulder but the outer wounds were completely closed leaving only a pink entrance hole and a larger raised pink exit scar. Scars that would fade in time for they hadn't been done by another preternatural or silver. "Sorry... I just don't wanna get blood on the sofa." Joss mumbled. Staring up at Matt from the floor her head resting against his knee. Her shoulder throbbing but the pain was far enough in the back of her mind as she had started worrying about other things. "Matt... what am I to you?" Joss asked as if her small tumble had shaken some moxy out. Had given her some balls to ask outright. Of course the question itself could be taken 6 different ways. Matt grinned to himself at Joss’ surprise about his offer to Jason. It wasn’t his place in the Pack to teach anyone anything except when they’ve gone too far, but he didn’t see any harm in shedding some light onto the aspects of the Pack that were not as publically known. It wasn’t that he was grinning at her or anything, just grinning a little from his own amusement. His grin left though as Joss made the odd noise, and seemingly flung herself off of the couch and onto her rear. One eyebrow rose as he glanced down at her. “Are you…okay?” ”Sorry… I just don’t wanna get blood on the sofa.” He nodded at her explanation, not even thinking about the furniture and what putting a bloody person on it would do. A downfall of not really having lived in a real house for any length of his teenage and adult life. “S’alright.” ”Matt… what am I to you?” Matthew blinked down at Joss for a long moment and then glanced up and away towards the door for a minute. The question was so unlike the submissive he was briefly taken aback. “Well…that depends.” Sliding back the couch a few inches while at the same time shifting as he slid to the floor behind Joss, Matthew was soon sitting on the floor behind Joss, his arms wrapping around her waist, careful of the injured shoulder/arm. “You’re my pack-mate…we share a house most of the time to ourselves, so we’re house-mates. It hasn’t been all that long, but I’d like to think of us as at least friends….” He paused then. Were they really just friends, or was there more to it than just that? He knew the potential was there, and as short as the time had been, there wasn’t really anyone closer to him than she was. “…maybe a little more than that too, I’m not sure.” |

Matt had seemed amused for a moment as he set her down. Grinning to himself. Was he pleased that Jason decided to stay outside? She didn't quite know him well enough to have learned all of his facial expressions yet. But she didn't think about it to long as her concerns about the sofa hit her and she flung herself to the floor. She smiled up at him as he seemed to be ok with her reasoning behind flinging herself away from him. Even though she had sorta moved closer to him in a way. When she had asked her outright question and the seemingly length of quietness that followed she grew nervous. Her head pulled up from his knee, her chin tucking down towards her chest as Matt looked towards the doorway. She had overstepped the bounds. She reached up with her good arm to pull her bad arm back into her lap as she sat there. Her heart was hammering in her chest. Fearful that she had gone to far. Getting shot apparrently did stupid things to her. Finally he spoke. The sound of his voice accented by the sound of the couch sliding backwards. She took a sudden intake of breath as she felt Matt move down to the floor with her. Felt his arms sliding around her. It was as if he'd flipped a switch and suddenly the trembling was back. He continued and her head remained down. Nodding a little as she agreed. Packmates... Yes, a nod. Housemates... Yes, a nod. Her eyes closed a smaller nod, her heart seeming to seize for a moment. *At least friends* The word seemed to hang in the air. Had she been so hopeful that she had been seeing things that weren't there? Her breath suddenly caught as he continued. Her heart suddenly jump started beating faster. Her head lifting a little bit. "More?" She asked her voice a squeak. Her head lifted turning slightly to look over her shoulder back at him. Her good hand moving to cover one of his forearms that was wrapped around her. "What would make you sure?" She asked her voice barely a whisper. She looked scared. Wondering if he wanted to explore or if because of her standing in the pack he didn't want to persue anything. For the first time she hated that she couldn't be stronger. For Matt... for herself. "Cause I... I... " She couldn't finish the sentence. If Matt didn't want to persue anything with her stating her feelings, her wants, wasn't going to change anything. Edited by Jocelyn, Jan 8 2009, 09:08 AM.

REINHA :: Queen of Thugs
|
The scent in the air was familiar; it was fresh and earthy, something of forests and the moon and most definitely canine. But there was something else on the air – danger, a threat, and it just couldn’t be shaken off. A chill ran through the breeze signifying that something was lurking in the shadows. Hunting... Then a roaring thunder boomed three times, shaking the entire world and a howl echoed through the dream plane... Emilia had woken with a start, springing forward to sit upright in her bed, eyes snapping open as she breathed heavily and attempted to drive away the disorientation that came with dreams of that kind. It was early; much earlier than she was used to waking up when she didn’t have to work in the morning, and she couldn’t help the pit of dread that had built in her stomach. Something told her she needed to call Jason, and right now. It didn’t help matters, as she jumped from her bed and stripped her night shirt off, to feel the disturbance upstairs and know that Nina had shared the same or at least a similar experience. ’Get dressed, Chaton.’ It was an instinctive instruction as she picked up the phone by her bed and dialled Jason’s apartment number while walking quickly through her ensuite to her walk in wardrobe. Rather quickly she grabbed a pair of briefs and the first pair of jeans she came across, putting them on as she nursed the phone between her ear and shoulder and cursing when there was no answer. Hanging up, the blonde had then dialled his cell phone, setting her phone on speaker while she threw a singlet on, followed by a sweater – the curses growing more frustrated in French as that wasn’t answered either. Something had happened... she knew it. And judging by the scared look on Nina’s face when she found her waiting by the door, her daughter knew it too. And so, considering he wasn’t at home, and he wasn’t at PPIT Central (she quickly discovered as she was pulling out her drive while calling there to find he hadn’t been on any jobs during that night that they knew of either), she could only think of one other place to check. Something inside her told her that she would find him around his own pack’s territory anyway – call it a very strong hunch. The Jeep was driven at high speed, while the two cougars worried about what they’d picked up on, and soon enough some time after turning down the track that led to the Lupanar, she spotted the Blazer and parked right beside it. Stepping out, Emily sniffed the air, eyes narrowing slightly at the phantom lingering of tension that caused her hands to flex before she reached under her seat to grab the pistol she kept there in case of emergencies, placing it in the pocket of the jacket she’d thrown on before heading out. “Nina, stay near me please,” She’d noticed her daughter wandering slightly toward the woods, though the girl stopped and blinked at her mother before nodding and walking back to her, clasping her hand as Emi began to walk toward the Lupanar. By rights, she would probably be confronted if any dominants apart from Jason or Cara were around, but to be honest, she really didn’t care at this point. Something had happened and she wasn’t going to relax until she knew what was going on and that her closest friend was alright. Nearing the sacred area for the wolves, she stopped as she caught recent scents: Jason, Jocelyn, another wolf she didn’t know... and blood. Definitely blood. Eyes flashed golden as she felt Nina tense beside her, the young girl picking up on it as well, but Emi turned in the direction of the most recent smell, while casting out around the area mentally, the cub following in her mother’s footsteps, until they began to near a clearing and brushed over a familiar mind. Almost instantly relief swelled inside both the cougars, and the cub bolted ahead in a flash of movement. Emi jumped slightly but shook her head with a small relieved smile as she began to jog. It was clear that Nina had been just as scared, if not moreso, that something bad had happened, and as she caught sight of the house and the lone wolf standing outside, she sped up even more before launching herself up onto the porch and straight at him in a tackle and happy squeal, ”You’re okay!” Moments later, Emilia emerged from the woods as well, a slight half-smile on her lips, though a clearly concerned look in her eyes as she studied him while she slowed to a walk. It was clear that he was weakened by lack of energy, and had been injured and it didn’t sit well with her. Her gaze cast toward the house for a moment – there were a couple of others here too – before she looked back at him and stepped up onto the porch herself, “We were awoken by a interesting dream this morning...” A small frown pursed her lips though as her eyes narrowed, "What is the point of having a cell phone if you never answer it?" Ulfric // Emi's Beau
|
Jason remained on the wrap-around porch and did what he did best: brood. With both elbows resting on the railing, he leaned forward to gaze out at the forest surrounding the house. He remained alert, hazel eyes constantly moving along the tree line for any sign of the black wolfess if she decided to return and finish what she had started. While he did doubt she would be back, at least today, he was still on edge. Jason was only comforted in the fact that she was a new shifter and it would take longer for her to recover after he had tore the beast out of her body. The man reached up to scrub a hand through his hair before it dropped down on the rail once more. Now what to do about Emi? There was someone out there hunting for her and not to mention ruthless. She had shot Joss with no remorse and even seemed to have enjoyed it. What would the hunter do if she found Nina? Jason closed his eyes at that disturbing thought, leaning down further to rest his forehead on his crossed arms. What a long day and it had not even started yet. His eyes closed, growing tired of staring at the boards, all he really wanted to do was sleep and yet his mind was racing at the same time. He needed to do something, but what? For the moment he decided to rest his eyes a little, at least until he heard rapid footfalls coming toward the house. When Jason pushed himself upright, all he saw a blonde blur before it struck him, "You're okay!" "Nina?!" The wolf's arms wrapped around her to help catch her while taking a step back from the force of the tackle. Jason was always happy to see the little cougar, that evident by the smile on his face, but concern soon fell over it as well as confusion, "... What are you doing here? Where's--" No sooner were the words about to come out of his mouth did he see the answer come walking out from the woods. Just like Nina he would have normally been glad to see Emi, but today was not the case as he held Nina. “We were awoken by a interesting dream this morning... What is the point of having a cell phone if you never answer it?" "Heh... yeah well, it's in the car..." He admitted, clearly not thrilled and yet somehow the two psychics had picked up on what had happened, "You didn't have to come out here... I'm fine." |

“Well…,” Matt begun and then stopped, golden eyes closing as he leaned his forehead against the top of hers. There was so much to consider with the question that Matthew wasn’t even sure himself if there was a good answer for it. They barely knew each other, yet at the same time no one knew much about another person just shortly after they’ve met, so that wasn’t a particularly good answer. But then you had to consider the Pack and the way it was structured. He was, after all, supposed to be perhaps the worst thing that could happen to you. “Let me ask you this, and it’s all hypothetical.” Matthew’s voice had gone serious in the last few moments, and the Bolverk was about to pose a serious question. “Suppose something happened between us, something good that we were both happy with.” That wasn’t that far off from what they were discussing after all. “It doesn’t matter how long it’s been going on, a day, a week, a few months…maybe even a few years? However long, it doesn’t matter. One day, I dunno, maybe someone wanted to frame you for something serious. A murder, or perhaps a series of unwanted infections, you know how the government can get with us.” “But something bad, be it something you were framed for, or maybe even on the off chance it was something you really did for some reason. Now suddenly you’re wanted dead, doesn’t matter if it’s the government, or the Ulfric. They’ll send me after you, and regardless of what bonds we have, I’d either have to kill you…,” Matt let the words linger for a moment before beginning again, “…or run with you. Neither option is any good though. I wouldn’t want to kill you, but I’d have to…or we’d be running for the rest of our lives.” Another pause, his head lifting off of Jocelyn’s, golden eyes opened and looking down now at the top of her head. “Like I said, this is all hypothetical, and it may never happen this way. I just want you to know the things that have a potential to happen. I also want to make sure you’re calm enough to think this through, and this isn’t just something that came out of the blue because you were hurt.” Then, just like that, he was back to his old self again. “But for starters, how about dinner and a movie or something after you’re all better?” |

Sub Wolf / Poor Joss
|
Joss leaned into Matt with his arms around her. Snuggling against his chest as he began to speak. Smiling at the idea of their being something between them. Something they were both happy with. She made a soft noise like a hum of satisfaction as she pictured her and Matt sideby side. The soft contented sigh froze within her though as Matt turned the tale to freeze Joss in her tracks. Wondering why anyone would want to frame her. Her head snapped around so fast as he suggested that she might even possibly do something bad. She stared up at him over her bad shoulder. The blood soaked tshirt she was wearing reflecting in her muddied hazel eyes. Her mouth parted at the idea of being chased or killed by the man you loved. Her breathing was suddenly heavy as the idea shook her deeply. The last thing she would ever want to do was hurt the man she was dating. And doing something she wasn’t suppose to was completely out of her nature. However if someone attempted to frame her… But that was just stupid. How could Matt ever believe she could murder or hurt someone on purpose framed for it or not. As he paused she chimed in softly. “If you weren’t interested you could have just said…” She whispered. Surprised that the feel of his arms, his body surrounding her didn’t suddenly start feeling awkward. But now she still felt warm and comfortable and safe with his arms around her. Her heart may have decompressed and her eyes might be tearing up but still she didn’t want to runaway from his embrace. Joss knew she was screwed in the head. But she was also smart enough to recognize that she was. Recognize that a normal human being would have stormed away the moment they had been shot down. “Hypothetical or not…” She started as Matt chimed in over her. She really didn’t want to hear any excuses of why he wouldn’t or ‘couldn’t’ date her. It would only hurt more. “It’s not just because I’m hurt it may have been the catalyst but…” She finally cut herself off. All her cutting in and assumptions she had thought Matt had just been trying to come up with good enough excuses so she wouldn’t want to date him anymore. “Wait… Wait after everything you just said. All your reasons for why you shouldn’t date me did you just ask me out?” Joss asked softly. Looking at him over her shoulder. Her fingers gently petting up and down his arms that were wrapped around her. She pursed her lips staring at him. Wondering if he was doing it just to appease her for now. And then scare her away from him later. “Matt… I… I’ve had a fairly large crush on you since you came here. My wolf… my wolf loves your wolf… or something I dunno but at your scent I always feel her acknowledgement. You’re the only one whose scent she feels the need to acknowledge. And you’re the first one to not laugh at or take advantage of the fact that I like… that I need to cuddle sometimes. You haven’t t aken advantage of me. And your gorgeous and powerful and 10 times the person I will ever be. And yes I want to go out on a date with you. But I don’t want a pity date. The only thing getting shot has done has made me bold enough to say all these things. Cause if I get shot again tomorrow or if you have to hunt me tomorrow I don’t want to die wondering if anything could have been.” Joss blurted it all out. “So if it’s pity… or just placating me take it back now. If it’s not… even if I have to wear a sling, tomorrow?” She asked the last rant was said with her head tucked down into her chest again. “Whatever you decide… just please don’t let go of me right now.” She said pulling his arm so it was tighter around her torso. Snuggling her body up as close as possible to his. |
