I just realized I never had a description of Whirl's lab.

Eh. I'm not sure I'm even going to be using it in any future stories.

Anyway, that was teh grate.

Just remember that Whirl doesn't view himself as Evelyn's boyfriend. ;o

I actually figured that out just as I began writing this chapter. But he'd still come to rescue her, which is all I need.

And I still don't know what Whirl's personality is. I'm afraid of making him too sciency or serious or something.

Well, he is supposed to be the most serious of my 5 mainest characters.

...although not as serious as Sneen.

Short, but to the point.

Chapter 4-4: Springing the Trap

FIELD OUTSIDE WHIRL’S LAB- TWELVE HOURS LATER

The X-Naut force stood out in the middle of the field. Several dropships, along with the Conscipt’s ships, lay parked openly. Magnus warsuits and X-Naut pulse infantry stood in perfect line, weapons down. Several small fighters and the Century Maker, a smaller Federation ship liberated from Renton that Stalvick used as a field command for field operations, hovered over the field, inspring awe.

The Conscripts, along with several X-Naut guards, stood around a handcuffed Evelyn. She was subdued, and said nothing.

“Kinda makes us look like the bad guys…” muttered Eli, but the others said nothing, watching and waiting for the moment.

Onboard the Century Maker, Stalvick looked at the maps of the surrounding area closely. Stalvick knew he would come, but still had doubts. The entire operation rested on this going perfectly, and so many things could go wrong. Grodus would not be pleased with failure…

“Admiral, I’m picking up a unmarked warship in low orbit. This may be the target we were looking for,” TEC-X3 exclaimed.

WHIRL’S SHIP- BRIDGE

Onboard, the rabbit-like creature known as Whirl watched the surrounding area. They wanted the research he had on the chaos emeralds, it figured. Although, be careful what you wish for, he thought.

“I’m telling you, Whirl, this is a bad idea,” said the robotic figure beside him. The figure was rounded, and had organic features to him, but for the most part was clad in cold metal. “We should have told the Federation!”

“As annoying as Evelyn is, I’m not going to get her killed,” Whirl said, resolute, “I’m going to make sure of that. Besides, what I have won’t mean much in the long run.”

Whirl opened a communication channel to what he could assume was the capitol ship, the large vessel over his lab, and looked out on the massive force occupying his land.

“This is Whirl of Mobius. I wish to parlay with your executive officer at once. I have the research of which you requested.”

“So, the elusive Whirl at last,” the voice of a rough X-Naut came through on Whirl’s end, “I was hoping to speak with you before we finished our business here. I am Admiral Toris Stalvick, and I must commend you, sir, for evading our capture for as long as you have. You are indeed a worthy opponent.”

“My thanks to you, sir,” Whirl retorted, “But you must know that your victory here means little to me. I’ve dealt with many others who have tried to obtain the chaos emeralds, including your leader. Even if you do get the emeralds, I’ll dismantle your power, as well.”

“That seems unlikely, sir,” said Stalvick, “Seeing as you will be in one of our prison cells along with the rest of your crew!”

Whirl suddenly felt the ship shake under him. The engines had blown out, all weapons were offline, and they were hovering by auxiliary power. Looking at their radar, which was now distorted, several X-Naut strike teams had moved around behind them, and fired EMPs at the ship’s vitals. They were stuck.

“See! I told you this was a bad idea!” Glerk shouted. Whirl could only stare, wide eyed.

“You wouldn’t dare-“

“Ha! The man who seeks to control the emeralds for himself speaks to me of daring!” Stalvick said in almost mocking voice, “You have far outlived your reputation, Citizen Whirl. All units, prepare to take our friend here into custody.”

“You’ll have to postponed those planes, gentlemen,” said an unknown third voice on the channel.

OUTSIDE WHIRL’S LAB- FIELDS

The fields suddenly exploded with combat.

Bombers streaked down from the sky, scattering the X-Naut force still there. Air-to-ground rounds from a ship above blasted craters into the landscape, scattering the parts of Magnus mechs.

Next to Evelyn, the conscripts scattered to keep her in custody, though several rounds got too close for comfort. Next to then, two Yoshi Bodyguard Pelican class transports landed, and Clone Troopers poured out.

“Clones? Here?” Paper said before ducking to avoid the blast of a chain gun. Litera had Evelyn in his arms tight, though she continued to struggle.

From behind him, a pool of liquid formed, and Metal Chaos rose, reforming.

“Oh, not you again!” Christopher yelled, before Metal Chaos nailed him in the stomach.

Metal Chaos them extended his arm to knock Litera back. He dropped Evelyn, but regained his composure just before another hit to the face. Metal Chaos picked up Evelyn, and moved toward the clone troopers, who beckoned him, as if expecting him.

“Don’t let him get-“ Eli yelled before a chain gun round again fired at his cover, causing chips of rock to scatter. The rest of them could only watch as the hatch on the dropship closed, and their bait flew away on the dropship.

CENTURY MAKER - BRIDGE

Onboard the Century Maker, Stalvick evaluated the scene, he couldn’t get a hold on the situation, and no one could pinpoint where the enemy came from.

”Sir, the Yoshi Bodyguard command ship, Great Panaj, has just entered our sensor range. It is accompanied by a small Yoshi Bodyguard fleet.”

“What?” Stalvick shouted, “Who are these intruders?”

“I know you…” Whirl began, in sheer shock, “You’re that Bugoto Yoshi, Coshi! What are you doing here?”

“Pulling your butt out of the fire,” said Coshi, “Now sit tight. I’ve got your girlfriend, and we’re getting you out of here. Prepare your ships for dimensional recall. Jet Gundam, on your command.”

“She’s not my-“ But before Whirl could finish, Five Setting Sun class vessels, very similar to the Totally, appeared on radar. Just then, Whirl’s ship was enveloped in a blue light, and vanished. One by one, the Yoshi Bodyguard ships vanished, until finally the Great Panaj was enveloped, leaving only the destruction it rought.

“This is incomprehensible! They’re escaping right our from under us!” Stalvick shouted, “Track them! TRACK THEM!”

Oh noes.

Usually Whirl would have a backup plan.

...except I can't actually think of a backup plan.

Will Coshi use a device that shuts down stolen ships?

I guess Whirl had one, but never got to use it. Or it got EMP'ed. :o

And no. When the shipyards were liberated, the tech crews would have taken those devices out. Or something. I DUNNO!

Eh, this part is OK. I kinda rushed it at the end. I also realized I read Amphy's profile wrong from the beginning. He uses magic. Oh well.

Within less than a week, the Zinc Legion was driven from Mobius, destroyed nearly to the man. After a pacification period, the Galactic Federation garrison on Mobius moved out, leaving GUN to track down any remaining bands of resistance left.

Meanwhile, the showdown between Grodus, the Yoshi Bodyguards, and the remaining emerald hunters draws nearer, with Grodus himself seeing his plan forward to claim the six chaos emeralds. Now, Stalvick is pushed for time. The seventh emerald must be located in order to ensure the X-Naut’s rise to power, and the key lies in the hands of the lost scientist

Stalvick has tracked Coshi and his men to an unidentified planet near the Hocotate system. Pressed for time, he must raise the hidden Yoshi Bodyguard base there, and find the research Whirl has collected on the seventh emerald. However, there are others seeking to destroy the Yoshi Bodyguards on the planet…

Chapter 5-1: On the Frontlines

UNKNOWN PLANET NEAR HOCOTATE- HIGH ORBIT

The X-Naut armada came out of hyperspace, headed by their captured YSS Windfish, renamed the Might of Grodus. Behind them, other warships, surrounded by hundreds of frigates and fighters, appeared out of the blackness of space. The planet in front of them was mostly tranquil, though other ships slowly drifted above the planet, some Yoshi Bodyguard, some other.

“Admiral, we have tracked the fugitives Whirl and Coshi to this planet, unknown in our current star charts,” TEC-X3 stated, “These two have taken shelter at the base of an encampment that lies near the planet’s equator.”

“I don’t understand this…” said the hologram of Grodus, next to Stalvick, “The Yoshi Bodyguards were supposed to be concentrated on either the Metal Army or the first six emeralds. Why did they seek to intervene?”

“I have no idea, Grodus,” Stalvick said, “But the Yoshi Bodyguards aren’t our only problem. Our sensors have identified multiple Metal Army encampments on this planet as well. Presently, only a few seem to be active, but there’s no telling what will set the rest of them off. Should they attack, we would be hard pressed to hold them at bay.”

“I see…” Grodus said, “It is a risk we must take. After my operations are done here, only this emerald will stand between total victory and us. Stalvick, send our Conscripts to attack their command center in the middle of the Yoshi Bodyguard encampment, that must be where Whirl and Coshi are hiding. I want Whirl and his research captured, and Coshi killed. They present too great a threat to us, and should Coshi die, we will have killed off the very best of Star World’s warriors. You and Colonel Litera will provide cover for the Conscripts, and ensure no external threats get in the way of their mission.”

“Yes, Grodus!” said Stalvick, saluting “I will ensure that everything falls into place.”

CHAPTER 5: REVELATION

YOSHI BODYGUARD POSITON- CENTRAL OUTPOST

In the central chamber, Coshi reviewed the status of the Rising Suns they used to get here. It was a necessary stop; Coshi didn’t want to overdo the dimensional recall, lest he fall into a wormhole in space and time. But he wished that these ships would charge faster. And now the Metal Army forces here have started to come out of the mysterious passiveness they had once experienced…

Behind him, the steel door slid open, and Whirl stepped in. At his side, was Glerk, the cyborg companion whom he befriended.

“Good to see you alive,” said Coshi, “Where’s your girlfriend?”

“For the last time, she is not my girlfriend!” said Whirl, “I left her in her room. I don’t want her to get involved in this.”

“I would treat her well,” said Coshi, “She seems to like you. I couldn’t stand to see a love like that fall apart. Reminds me of Plasshi…” Coshi paused for a second, then turned his head back toward Whirl, “Anyway, what was this information that the X-Nauts wanted so badly?”

“Well…” Whirl hesitated for a second, “I guess since you did save me. You see, the seventh chaos emerald was stolen by the Metal Army, that much everyone knew. However, no one could track it, and no data files came up on the emerald in captured databanks. For some reason, not even I could lock onto its signature, I even used the most refined scan, but nothing.”

“So, what did you do?” Coshi urged him.

“I broadened the search. I scanned using the most advanced system I had, and discovered energy emitted by the emerald. The emerald itself was perfectly blocked, but it seemed to be releasing its energy in some other way.”

”So, where is it?” said Coshi.

“That leads me to another issue…” said Whirl, “I might have to show you.”

Whirl plugged in a small data storage device into the central computer, and a map shot up. Coshi looked at it for a second, and then broke out into a laugh.

“Well, looks like the X-Nauts won’t be getting that any time soon!” he said, barely containing his laughter.

OUTSKIRTS OF THE UNKNOWN PLANET – NEAR YOSHI BODYGUARD BASE

On a peaceful field, as dawn began to break, a small onion shaped bud, no bigger than the palm of a human hand, floated down towards the ground. It extended three leg-like appendages, and small, flower-headed creatures slid out of it. The creatures looked around, seeing the new dawn as a chance for new opportunities, and new adventures.

Then, a massive, twenty-ton drop-pod slammed on top of the onion, creating a massive crater where the onion stood.

The drop pod hatch opened, and six of the X-Naut conscripts ran out. Paper and Christopher lead while Eli and Amphy came up behind them. Ripvor vanished, while Teen Angst was still talking on her cellphone.

“Does that thing ever run out of service?” asked Paper, but Eli cut in before she could respond.

“Quiet, I hear something,” he said, “Sounds like gunfire…”

They all stood, silent for a moment, until finally they heard an explosion. Ripvor flew through the air, face charred from a blast. He landed in front of the group, unconscious.

“That can’t be good,” Amphy stated.

“FIND COVER!” Paper screamed just in time for ten clones and a Metal Slug Annihilator to move out of the woods. Paper grabbed Teen Angst and the limp body of Ripvor, and dove behind a rock, while Eli ran up to a tree, using it to shield the shots from the Clone Troopers. Chrsitopher and Amphy struggled to move out of the way of the wizzing bullets, but were harder to hit due to their small size.

Eli casted a burst of manafire, which ignited one of the clone troopers. Several others moved in, throwing charges to Eli’s tree, causing it to explode. Eli was blasted back, but managed to regain his composure.

Christopher ducked down to avoid a streaming rocket from an ARC Trooper, and crawled out from behind a rock. He blasted a burst of thunder down at a clone, blowing him back, but the Metal Slug Annihilator moved its barrel, targeting Christopher. He ducked back just as the ground he was standing on exploded.

Amphy began to cast a small fire spell, but the chaos around him caused him to stumble on his words. The grass he was standing on combusted, and Amphy was forced to run out of cover, screaming loudly.

“They’re too much for us!” Shouted Paper, using a modified pulse rifle to fire back in vain. He turned to Teen Angst, who continued to talk on her cellphone, even over the battle, “DO YOU EVER GET OFF THAT THING!”

“Like, rude much!” Teen Angst said.

Suddenly, a rocket streamed from behind the Conscripts, followed by a stream of fire. Metal Army forces, lead by a Dom Brute with a mounted rocket launcher on his arm, moved toward the clones. The Dom Brute fired again, blasting the Metal Slug Annihilator in its side, and denting it’s heavy armor.

“We’ve got to get out of here!” Shouted Amphy.

“Hold on, I think I can get us out of this!” Eli managed to get up, and moved closer to the center of the scattered Conscripts. He then began to chant a spell under his breath, causing runes to appear around each conscript. Then, the runes enveloped them, and they teleported away, leaving the clones and the Metal Army to fight amongst themselves.

Wouldn't it be hard to tell if Ripvor's face was charred? ;o

I guess... He was slightly blacker than normal? :o

And I guess when you go flying while the front of your body's smoking from a tank blast, you can assume face-charation.

And next part is... When I feel like it.
