Chinatown

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Laughing Dragon
In the cluttered streets of Chinatown an old wooden sign, cracked and beaten by the weather swings by a single chain off the eave, the other taking by a gust most likely. As it spins in the breeze, one can make out in barely legible and worn away script, "The Lau-h-ng Dra-on" followed by what one could assume the Chinese translation thereof. The shop is cluttered, divided into two sections. However, before one's eyes wander to either of these sections, they are averted to a large golden dragon, which appears to be grinning. A small Chinese man steps up to the visitor, stroking his long mustache and dressed in black silk pants, covered with a silken gold and black robe, the cuffs long, the bottoms extending far past his hands and to his knees.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Purple Orchid
Located in the heart of the crowded streets of Chinatown is a broken down filthy apartment building sandwiched in between rows of equally depressing and crowded tenements with various shops on the ground level. As one moves through the crowded streets of the compact neighborhood and steps through the narrow doorway, a landing big enough for two or three persons standing shoulder to shoulder is the first thing encountered. The only light in the interior is a single red light. Behind this door lies The Purple Orchid. A seedy operation whose air is laden with a strange starchy smell.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Fong Pawn
In the dilapidated crowded streets on the edge of Chinatown just northeast of Bridgeport lies a little pawn shop. The chief operator is a middle age Chinaman known as Mr. Ling and he takes great pride in the place and offers many different wares ranging from clothing to jewelry to an occasional firearm. Still the little man is exceedingly friendly to the buyer and takes great pride in the crowded little broken down shop.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Fong Important and Export Company
Next to the tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad lies an expansive warehouse and thriving business catering the the import and export of exotic items popular to the Flapper and Nouveaux Riche culture. Strategically set close to the canals and railroad tracks the booming industry has access to the cheap labor of the South Side and Chinatown. The company has been established since 1884 and despite its foreign ownership does quite well, boasting access to just about every hard to find foreign good desirable to the American consumer or business.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Do Textiles & Laundry
In the bleak industrial sections of Chinatown is a line of sweatshops and textile mills. Do Textiles & Laundry is one such place. Here many off the unfortunate and impoverished Chinese immigrants finally end their journey to America -- working for wages equaling $1.00 a week for men and $.75 for women and a mere $.20 a week for children in excruciatingly harsh conditions.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Twin Moons Cantonese Cuisine
On the fringes of Chinatown is a gaudy pagoda style building painted in bright red and with faux jeweled inlays, mimicking the palaces of the ancient Emperors. The restaurant is high class and very popular with the flapper and entertainment culture as anything exotic and mysterious is. In truth, the place is quite Westernized as traditional Chinese Cuisine would be sure to offend the discriminating palette of the restaurant's western patrons. The owners and operators of the restaurant maintain the charade as it has made them a pretty profit. Chinese guests who can afford the astronomical prices do not get the gaudy treatment and are generally privy to the specialty dishes that send them away with satisfied smiles.
