Arianna trailed behind the silent Craig, falling silent herself. He seemed to be in a zone of some sort, and he wouldn't hear anything she had to say anyways. She paused for a moment as he checked out the area, pausing to inspect a doorway. She breathed a small smile of relief when he entered, and she followed him without a sound. She inspected the corpse as he had, and looked up at Craig. "Looks like our friend was here." She grimaced slightly at the smell and waited for Craig to take the lead again, it was evident that he was the leader in these situations and it just made more sense to follow rather than try and butt her way into things. "Okay Captain, take the lead, tell me how we are getting out of this hellhole I put us through." She smirked and put her hands on her hips, her head tilted just slightly in his direction. She glanced at the fire escape and frowned slightly, she doubted Dog could make his way up it, then again she had seen the animal do some pretty crazy shit. She reached down to scratch the dog's ears and awaited on Craig's solution to the problem she figured he already knew about. |

Craig held silent while Arianna pointed out what he already knew he smirked a little when she called him captain and turned to walk out the door when he began. "O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done; The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won; The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring: But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead" He made large gestures as he walked out, he swayed slightly as he walked the path in the rain. "O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells; Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills; For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding; For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning; Here Captain! dear father! This arm beneath your head; It is some dream that on the deck, You’ve fallen cold and dead." He turned, his pistol held in his right hand his arms extended upwards, still walking but now backwards. "My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still; My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will; The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done; From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won; Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells! But I, with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead." He bowed low his right arm folded under him across his stomach, his left flung out beside him and pulled the trigger. The gunshot echoed through the empty yard and a dull thud punctuated the end of his performance as a zombie fell to his left. |

He has to be bonkers, either that or he can see humor in any situation. Arianna followed the boisterous and very questionable man with quiet bafflement. She was kind of starting to like him, but at the same time, she didn't want to trust him. After he had finished with a flourish. She had to giggle a little, but the sight of the undead made her stick close to him, close enough, that he might feel her breath on his neck. She would never admit it, but she was generally afraid of the undead. "Remind me not to call you captain again, you just might wake the dead." She smiled to herself, and continued to follow Craig with almost complete silence before piping up again. "Are you scared? You never seem to be." She bit her lip, and quickly added: "you don't have to answer that, it was a silly question, im sorry I even said anything". She was such a little girl sometimes, she wanted to kick herself for the stupid question she asked him. Its not like he really knew her well enough to confide in her about such things.

Craig straightened up and smiled, it was his own smile but if you were to look any deeper you'd know it was a lie. The smile was warm the kind that made you feel safe, the same one a parent would give to their child while sitting by the fire in a thunderstorm. It was a well practiced smile, learned while fighting corporate wars in parts of the world you can't find on maps and are only talked about in hushed tones in the backrooms of mega corps by men so wealthy they consider the super rich peasants. The same smile he gave to the recruits when they got scared, the same smile he gave them when they were about to die. "Everyone gets scared Arianna." Craig leaned in to her ear and whispered. "The secret is not to let it call the shots." When he straightened up he looked into her eyes, looking for something he didn't want to find, he wanted to know if she cared or rather how much she cared, he needed her to care enough not to cut and run if his back was against the wall but not so much that she'd do something stupid and get herself killed for nothing, what he really needed was for her to trust him. He could see the fear, he could see the innocence of a young girl hidden beneath what was most likely her 'street cred', a tough shell with a lot of scars, he knew it was close to it's limit but who wasn't these days but it was enough. He holstered his pistol and turned to face the town, his plan had gone to shit and that's what scared him the most, not that he'd failed, he knew that no plan ever survives contact with the enemy, what scared him was that he didn't know how to win. Every battle he fought was with people, people who needed to eat, sleep and shit just like he did, that made them weak like he was but this enemy wasn't like him, what made them weak was something else, something he didn't know how to exploit because he couldn't be weak like them and that made him weaker. "Lets keep moving kid." |

Arianna saw the warm smile, a half smile on her lips in return, almost automatic. It didn't seem as if she, nor any human, would survive. It's not like they could stay in one place, to raise family or food. The undead would never let them rest. Arianna looked doubtfully at Craig as he responded to her question of fear. A shiver rolled down her spine as he whispered in her ear, and gave a genuine smile cross her supple lips. "Ah but if I could be like you. I would be ruled so much less by emotion." She met his stare, fear mixed with determination filled them. Arianna searched his in response, looking for some trace of emotion, or feeling. "I will not give up, I promise." Arianna didn't know why she felt compelled to say it, but hopefully he wouldn't give up on her either. Arianna laughed warmly and bumped her hip into him, flipping her hair as she walked ahead. "Don't call me kid, it's so condescending!" She let out another happy laugh, all fear gone for now. "Let's find your friend, I hope he isn't hurt." Dog Dog sniffed ahead as he waited for his Lady and the man he despised. He turned and trotted back to collect them, they were taking to long for his taste. He lifted his lips in a snarl, but made no noise as he approached the man, following close to Arianna as they walked on. He could smell the dead around, but the dead hadn't noticed to humans yet. |
