[OOC: Please ask me permission to join. Ivan is allowed.] “Ever get the feeling that one day fate will place the future on your shoulders? Well…it felt like that for us…especially me.” The weather had its ways in Teltier and it usually made it difficult for ships to sail off and trades to be conducted. The storms were raging in Teltier that night where the winds were blowing harsh gusts and the rain was pouring hard enough to produce several floods. However the abnormal weather this time was a symbol that danger was upon this once peaceful little town and that a person’s life would forever change. The screams of fleeing townspeople echoed in the night as the sounds of footsteps squishing in the water were heard. People were collapsing on the soaked gravel floor, trying to evacuate the town as quickly as possible before this mysterious killer claimed their lives. One small little family with a husband and wife and their two children were trying to go along with the mass of the crowd. However their son was missing and the father had decided to let his wife and daughter escape as he tried to search down his lost son. The wind blew hard against the man as he tried his best to walk against the flow of the winds and the rain made sure to decrease his natural speed. With the town empty, there was room to walk as well as find someone that had been lost in the stampede. A young man around the age of thirteen was wandering these empty streets. In the current situation he had a drenched navy blue sweater with the hood over his head to hide his face and protect him from getting a cold. His black jeans were soaked as well, clinging onto his legs as if a spider clung to its spider web. He kept calling out “Father, Father!” but received no response. The sound of metal boots clanking against the slippery, wet gravel floor were heard as the sound drew closer and closer, terror and fright filling the young man’s body. He turned around to find a mysterious gray knight in a full set of gray armor, full of water pouring down as he carried a large two-handed sword that was stained in a crimson red color, proof that this knight had slain several people for several reasons. The boy fell down, groveling at this superior knight, knowing that he had come to kill him as well just as he killed other townspeople during this crisis. The knight simply raised his sword, ready to strike down the boy when suddenly his father had tackled the knight down to the ground and quickly got up to his feet. The father grabbed his son’s hand and helped him up, yelling at him to run away. However the boy was still scared since he was about to experience death, so it was the father grasped his son’s hand and forced him to follow, running away for their dear lives. The knight rose to his feet and just watched his victims escape to safety, frustrated that his attempt was interrupted. Five years had passed since that night and the family had taken shelter in a small town known as Calthia. Calthia was known for its farmlands since it was the only flourishing town that produced a mass of well-grown crops. The thirteen year old boy was now eighteen. He was about 6’2” for his height and he had a sort of slim but well-built figure. He had short ruffled white hair that was as white as snow and hazel eyes that gleamed pleasantly in the sunlight. He wore a white short-sleeved undershirt with a sleeveless sweater. The sweater was in an ensemble of white and black. The inside of the hood was white, as well as the inside of the pockets, and the rim linings that followed along all the edges of the sweater were white. He wore black jeans and black sneakers with white shoelaces that had black aglets. The spring breeze gently blew across his face as he looked out at the town view from his home, enjoying the peace and quiet this town had to offer. He was about to take off to see his friends for a little hang out when his mother called out to him. “Jax, where are you off to in such a hurry?” she asked with her hands on her hips, looking at him with a sort of frustrated expression on her face. “Come on mom, my friends wanted to show me this new gadget that Drew made. Can’t I go now, please?” “Did you finish all your chores?” “Yes mom. I even put in more firewood in the fireplace. Now may I go please?” “Fine. Don’t forget to come home around five for dinner.” “I won’t mom. I’ll see you later.” Jax ran off with excitement as he hurried down the hills and headed towards the streets of Calthia. Jax anticipated this day all week because every one of Drew’s inventions had something new to offer and something interesting to see. The streets were bustling this afternoon, people walking by each other, going through their daily routines or going to do something that was usually out of their natural boundaries. Jax’s friends were all sitting in the square of the town where a large fountain was in the center and presented a serene and graceful presentation that usually made people feel relaxed whenever they sat there. He rushed over to them, shaking hands, giving high fives, patting backs and saying hello. Drew was sitting at the end of the trail of companions, holding the special contraption they had mentioned. Drew’s height was around about 5’11” or 6’”0 from what people judged but his actual height was exactly 6’0”. Drew had silky sage green hair that had a nice coif with a combed look. He wore a forest green sweater vest with a white short-sleeved collared shirt. He wore beige casual pants and dark green sneakers. On his wrist was a special wristband that his younger sister made for his seventeenth birthday. It was sewn in a criss-cross manner with colors of green, aqua blue and white. In the center of the wristband is a heart which was the only piece that was red and his name was sewn into the heart, showing how hard his sister had worked on the gift. Jax sat down next to Drew, watching him look at his new gadget, checking to see if everything was set or if there was anything that he needed to fix or modify. Drew originally lived in Calthia ever since the day he was born and he was the first friend that Jax had made when they moved to the graceful town. The five years that had passed were strong years that Jax and Drew built together because their friendship was so strong that nothing could break it. “So what did you make this time, Drew?” Jax asked with his eyes in amazement before he even knew what the gadget was or what it did. “It’s just a special type of compass.” Drew replied as he continued to study his work, making sure there were no errors in his product. “A special type of compass? What do you mean?” “This compass can locate strong sources of rem.” “I get it! With the strong sources of rem, we could produce better machinery or keep the reserves of Calthia flowing!” “That was one of my ideas but I had other plans with the mana.” “Like what?” “You know I’ve been a big fanatic with magic. I was planning on using the rem for my inventions and to help me harness the spells that I’ve been having difficulty with.” “That’s not a bad idea. Though can’t you do something that would help me as well?” Jax asked with a chuckle, nudging his best friend when he said it. “I don’t know if there was anything the rem could actually do to help you out.” “Didn’t you say rem isn’t entirely like mana?” “That is true. Rem does support magic but it can also support the physical energies within a person.” “Then maybe it can help me with the techniques I’ve been having trouble with!” “What techniques…?” Drew asked as he slowly looked up at Jax, a face full of worry. As soon as Drew asked what techniques he had been working on, Jax got up to his feet and drew out his sword. Jax’s sword was a sort of hand-me-down from his father. It was made of tempered silver with an engraving of a dragon on it. When he was younger, he had asked his father what the dragon resembled and his father said it was for the courage he had and the fire that always burned in his heart. Jax begin doing a specific style of movements that were used in one the techniques he had produced. He rammed forward and then slashed upward and quickly finished with a forward spin. Though as soon as he tried to stick his landing from the spin, he lost his balance and fell down. Some of his friends laughed at him and said to keep trying as others went over to help him up. Drew went over with a disappointed look as he patted Jax on the back and began to walk away with him from their friends. “That was pretty good but I think it’d be best if you stopped trying to make your own moves.” Drew said. “That wasn’t my own move. It was my father’s. I forgot what the name was but he said it helped him in certain situations.” “What type of situations?” “I don’t really know. Anyway what are you doing for the rest of the day?” “I’m going to re-configure this compass. The arrow keeps twirling around. I think I placed it wrong or something.” “All right. Meet you at the fountain again tomorrow?” “I thought you were supposed to help your dad harvest the corn.” “Oh right. Well…just come by when you want to hang out.” “All right. See you later, Jax.” The two of them said their farewells as Jax ran back home, returning a lot earlier than he had planned. Jax went to the backyard where there were wooden dummies placed in several different spots, some in a certain formation as others were either in pairs or completely alone. Jax began to practice techniques he had already mastered, just to make sure that he really grasped the concept of it and how it was performed. Once he finished a technique that he had a little difficulty with, he heard hands clapping as he turned around to see who it was. A girl at the age of fifteen was sitting on top of their roof with her legs crossed as she kept clapping and giving soft laughs here and there. She ranged from about 5’6” to 5’7” and had a slim but delicate figure. She had silky soft white hair with a side ponytail that was wrapped by a silver ribbon. She wore a silk turquoise blouse with a sky blue tank top underneath. She had a coffee brown miniskirt and wore pearl white boots with golden stars at the heels of the boots. She had several bangles around her right arm that were in an assortment of gold, silver, white and blue. She laughed as he was a little enraged that she caught a sneak performance of his private training. “Alia! What are you doing here?! Actually…what are you doing up there?!” he shouted at his younger sister, worried that she might fall but also annoyed that she snuck up behind him. “Oh calm down brother. I was just watching you. I have to say you really have improved.” “What? You mean you’ve been watching me every time?” Alia nodded and smiled as she slowly slid down the roof and then jumped down. Her landing was a little unbalanced but she managed to regain her balance and keep herself from falling. She walked over and just smiled at him, telling him that she was wondering when he would find out. “Aren’t you supposed to help mom with dinner like a good little girl?” “You always come up with sexist comments. Women don’t always cook dinner.” “I only say sexist comments to annoy you and only you.” “Well next time you say one to me, make sure it’s only me because you may never know who may be around.” “Yeah okay, I get it.” “And don’t forget that you know how to cook as well! Not to mention the fact that some of your recipes have been less appetizing than what mom usually cooks.” “Would you get off my case already?!” Alia did a raspberry at her brother as she walked away and went back inside. Jax was now more annoyed that his pestering sister had to bother him when he really wanted to come here for his own alone time and keep his emotions calm. Jax had difficulty controlling his emotions whenever it came to comments that ridiculed him and he knew that he had to change that as soon as possible. His father had taught him that usually in battle or a dire situation; one’s emotions sometimes cloud one’s judgment and may result in death. Jax figured that when you kept your emotions under control, it would just help you focus on the combat or the situation at hand. Whenever he fought, Jax always did his best to control his emotions and whenever he wasn’t, he would just be his natural self. The afternoon sun soon withdrew for a sleep as the evening moon rose into the sky. The streets of Calthia soon calmed down with only the nocturnal beings crawling through the night. The pub was full of men, men who were drinking to resolve the misery of the day’s problems they had encountered and to replenish the lost energy they spent all day working. Children were in their comfortable homes, soon going into their tender beds to sleep a night full of dreams that they wished would never go away. Jax’s mother had finished with the dishes and she quietly walked to her bedroom to turn in for the night. Alia was already fast asleep in her bedroom, tired from the chores she had to do as well as help prepare the dinner their mother worked so hard on. As for their father, he decided to take a nice night stroll in the streets of Calthia and gaze at the night sky, counting all the glimmering stars that greeted him as he walked under the glistening moonlight. Jax quietly snuck out of the house and slowly made his way down the hills, entering the empty streets of Calthia as he sat at the fountain in the square, looking at the reflection of the silver moon, feeling calm just by looking at its beauty. “Jax?” a voice cried in curiosity. Jax turned around to look who it was and found his father standing before him. His old man had a confused look on his face but it soon went away as he had a smile on his face. His dad sat down next to him and let out a relieved sigh as he returned his glance to the moon, enjoying the shine it gave off and how it usually lit up the wide open areas of the streets. He then looked in the water of the fountain as well, seeing the reflection of the moon and understanding why it would make his son feel so calm and carefree. Jax’s father looked at Jax after enjoying the quiet scenery and gently patted his son on the back, smiling still as if Jax had done something so amazing that he couldn’t stop thinking about it. “Dad? What is it?” Jax asked for he was confused as to why his dad was in such a joyful mood. “It’s nothing son. I just can’t believe you’re at the age that started everything.” “Started everything? What do you mean?” “Well when I was your age…it was around the time I began my own journey. I went off on my own to find my destiny, to find the future I had to shape for myself.” “Are you saying I should go out on my own and search for my future…?” “What I’m saying son…is that you should find when the time is right to go out on your own and find not your future…but your adventure.” Jax was a little confused about what his father had said. He tried to rephrase the sentence in his mind and try to understand the concept of it but no matter how hard he tried it seemed as if the words didn’t flow to him. Jax’s father laughed as he watched his son try so hard to get what he had just said. He ruffled Jax’s white hair and told him that it was best that they headed home. Jax got to his feet and walked home with his father, knowing that what he had said would come to an understanding later on in the future. They returned home and his father quickly went to his bedroom to crawl into his bed and sleep next to his beautiful wife. Jax carefully removed his shoes to make sure that he didn’t wake anyone as he retreated to his bedroom but to find that Alia was sitting there with an annoyed look on her face. “Where were you? You went into town didn’t you?” “Why do you have to know everything I do? You’re independent, do your own stuff.” “Well excuse me for worrying about my big brother’s well-being. I just wanted to make sure you were alright and weren’t doing anything illegal during the night.” “I’m not that type of guy, Alia. Go back to your room and sleep.” “Fine. Just don’t forget that you’re helping dad harvest the corn tomorrow in the crops.” “I know, I know. Now go to sleep already.” Alia quietly crept to her bedroom and slowly closed the door as Jax crawled underneath his sheets and closed his eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep and dreaming of what kind of adventure he would find. The morning sun rose and welcomed the new day with a bright and warm temperature. The winds were gentle and cool, making it feel like a refreshing spring day as Jax rose out of bed and got ready for work. His father was already working in the fields and had already harvested a third of the crops. Jax ran down the side hills from their home and entered the crop fields, seeing several other men with their boys harvesting the crops. Jax ran over to his father and quickly got to work, knowing that if he delayed any longer then he would be stuck there for almost the entire day. It was around afternoon and the crops were all harvested and new seeds had been planted. Jax had taken a bath to take off the scent of hard work as he quickly got dressed and headed towards the streets of Calthia once more. He had received a note from Drew when he was working in the fields that Drew wanted to show him something. However events took a turn for the worst once Jax had arrived in town. The streets were empty but the square was crowded as there was a set of five soldiers at the fountain. The soldiers wore stained gray cuirasses with black long-sleeved undershirts. The emblem on their armor was of a black serpent as they firmly gripped their lances and stayed in position. The officer wore the same type of style except he had a helmet that had the castle emblem on it. The officer stashed his scimitar away and pulled out a scroll as he looked at the confused spectators and prepared to read the unsuspecting announcement. “By the decree of Emperor Fidon, the farmland town Calthia is now under the law and order of the Royal Empire, Althisar.” The officer cried as he heard the townspeople begin to murmur in shock and confusion. Drew was in the middle of the crowd with his arms crossed and shaking his head with an irritated look on his face. Jax made his way through the crowd and caught up to Drew, asking what was going on. Drew said that the townspeople were forced to obey orders by the Royal Castle of Althisar and they weren’t allowed to leave the town unless they were escorted. Jax was angered by this for Calthia was always a free town and never had any complications with any of the royal domains. “What is that ill-minded emperor up to…?” Drew quietly asked himself as he was spinning a needle in between his fingers. “He can’t do this! This town has always been free from any domain rule!” Jax exclaimed as he paced back and forth after the little announcement had been made. Drew stopped Jax’s pacing to direct his attention to an assembly of Althisarian soldiers that were approaching Calthia. Jax asked what was going on now and Drew remarked that the soldiers were going to rob the town of its money for the unreasonable taxes that Emperor Fidon had done to other cities or towns under his rule. Jax’s anger had peaked to a new level, knowing that even though Calthia flourished by its crops, the funds of the town were still low. Rushing footsteps were heard as Jax saw his father and several other men stop before the officer and the approaching soldiers. The men all cried that it was an unfair act and that they demanded the emperor see the town for himself. Before anything else could be done, a riot began which quickly sprang into a full assault. The townsmen and the soldiers were arguing with each other, wrestling each other or fighting each other, trying to reason the situation with any means of violence and not with discussion. Jax’s father ran over to his son and Drew and told the two boys that Calthia was no longer a sacred place that they could live in. “Dad! I want to help you fight!” Jax exclaimed. “No son, you can’t! Now you and Drew head home and take Alia with you. The three of you head over to Rinsen through the mountain pass and stay with your relatives until things settle down here.” His father said as he rammed a soldier that tried to assault the two teenage boys. The boys didn’t hesitate at all and quickly ran through the alley to the hills, headed towards Jax’s home. Jax explained the situation to his mother and she nodded, knowing that it wasn’t going to be a suitable environment for children to build their lives in. She grabbed Alia and Jax’s personal things and handed it to them, kissing them both on the forehead and wishing them luck. Alia was still confused in the sudden rush to escape but she didn’t object to any of it, knowing that arguing wasn’t the proper thing to do at the time. The three of them ran for the mountains, hoping that things would be resolved in Calthia and that they could return home without any worry. After the three were far in the mountain pass, Drew spotted a small cavern that they could rest in, knowing that they were exhausted from such a long run and needed a place to rest for the time. They dropped their belongings down as Alia quickly sat on the ground, easily tired since she wasn’t as athletic as Drew and Jax were. She asked what was going on and Drew explained the matter to her. “So we’re going to Rinsen for the time being?” she asked as she tried to catch her breath. “It’s only until we find out what happens in Calthia.” Jax said as he slid down the wall and leaned against it, sitting there and trying to relax his breathing. “What I don’t understand is why Emperor Fidon would suddenly put Calthia under his rule.” Drew said as he spun the needle in his fingers once again. “I thought Calthia was out of range for domain rule.” “It is, Alia. Though it seems Emperor Fidon wanted more power.” “More power, Drew? Why could he possibly want more power? He already has enough power.” “Well Jax…sometimes some powerful men end up being greedier than others and desire more of that thing than their allies do.” Drew sat down and closed his eyes, trying to analyze the situation and come up with any possible theories as to why the emperor would demand Calthia under his custody. Calthia hadn’t done anything wrong and there was nothing much to offer except the farmlands. Drew assumed that maybe the emperor was going to use the farmlands for his own food supply in Althisar or remove the farmlands to build some building or rest point there for Althisarian soldiers to stop by. “Why would he pick Calthia? There are other towns that aren’t under domain rule.” Jax asked after he had finally rested his exhausted body. “That’s what I’d like to know as well but I guess we can’t really figure it out until we know what happens.” Alia said as she dug through her backpack to find something she wanted to use to keep herself busy. “Not unless we try to figure this out for ourselves.” Drew said. “What do you mean?” “Well…you always wanted adventure…right Jax?” “Well…yeah…but what does this have to do with an adventure?” “Think about it. Calthia isn’t a powerful town and there isn’t much there except the farmlands. There has to be something else there that we never knew about.” Jax thought about what Drew said and wondered if that was true. Plus he did feel this was the opportunity that an adventure was going to come around and he felt that it was the time to take hold of it and take it for a ride. Jax got up to his feet and smiled, assuring Drew that this was going to be an adventure and that they would be the ones to resolve the conflict in Calthia. Alia got up to her feet and demanded that she joined them for she didn’t want to be left out in any of the good things. She also pointed out that their father ordered them to take her and that their mother said Jax had to watch over her. Jax and Drew didn’t like the idea of a girl like Alia to come along but they knew that if danger happened anywhere else without the two of them there, then Alia would be as good as dead. “So where do we head first?” Alia asked with excitement since she was happy to be part of this little group they had suddenly made. “We’re obviously going to Rinsen first. We have relatives there so we can stay there until we figure out what to do next.” Jax said as he looked at Drew, hoping Drew would agree. “Okay then, so let’s head to Rinsen. It’d be best if we make it there before nightfall otherwise the mountain paths will be harder to see during the night.” Drew said as he began to gather his things. The three of them recovered their belongings and continued down the mountain path towards Rinsen. An adventure had come at the door and they welcomed it in with open arms, knowing that they would witness new experiences and make memories that would not be forgotten. It was about nightfall when the three of them reached the streets of Rinsen and the streets were full of people. The music was full of catchy songs that made the beat produce a fever of lively dancing. Almost every house was full of lights with silhouettes of people dancing to the music heard in the streets. Though there was one house full of lights but not with people dancing to the music. Smoke was steaming out of the chimney as they all went towards it. Jax especially knew that it was his relative’s house because his aunt and uncle would normally be drinking tea at this hour while their children were fast asleep. This lifestyle was natural to them for Rinsen was known as the town of dance. They approached the polished oak door and Jax knocked on it, footsteps heard as they drew closer towards the door until the door finally opened. A man that looked around the age of forty smiled as he firmly hugged his nephew and niece. Jax introduced his uncle to Drew before they were allowed inside the warm, toasty home. Jax and Alia hugged their aunt as their uncle was busy warming up some of the leftover dinner their aunt had slaved over the stove for all day. The three sat down around the table as Jax and Alia shared current memories and conflicts with their aunt and uncle. They mainly expressed the current matter that occurred in Calthia, hopping their aunt and uncle would express their views and point out a possible solution to the conflict. “That Emperor Fidon always takes things too far.” their uncle said as he sipped the warm tea. “I told you he was an unfit ruler. Always trying to claim things for his own well-being and not thinking of his people.” their aunt said, waving her finger at their uncle. “So Uncle Joln, Aunt Enora, is there anything we should do?” Jax asked for he was eager to know if they had any ideas that may help. “Well your generation is usually the ones to overthrow the previous generation…” his uncle said as his eyes wandered around the room as if he was looking for something. “I think it’d be in your best interest to go to Althisar and try to get an audience with the emperor.” their aunt said with a reassuring smile, letting them know things would turn well. Drew explained to Jax’s relatives that maybe there was something in Calthia that the people never knew about. The thought passed their aunt’s mind but it caught their uncle’s attention. He sat up in his seat and began telling them about one of the memorable histories Calthia had. There was a time in Calthia before the town existed where a powerful sorcerer had harnessed the knowledge and power of genies. The sorcerer had the ability to make wishes into a somewhat solid form and called them as “lights of wishes”. These “lights of wishes” were in the form of a star, a crystal, a heart or a dove and they glimmered in a bright light. Each light was usually in a different color and that color expressed the level of the wish or how difficult the wish might have been. The sorcerer had locked these lights of wishes away after he had noticed that this powerful source of magic was making people crave more and had lead to several wars. The lights were locked away in several locations but a very special wish was placed in the center of Calthia. The wish that was locked away was unknown but the wish contained a power so strong that it was able to turn the entire world into the netherworld. “Is that true, uncle?” Alia asked with a worried expression on her face. “It is just a story but some researchers have found proof of that sorcerer’s existence. So I believe that such a thing is most likely true.” he said as he slumped back down in his chair. “Then maybe that’s why the emperor took rule over Calthia. He’s planning on searching for that special wish so he can have that immense power in his hands!” Drew exclaimed. “If that is true then we have to return to Calthia and stop those soldiers.” Jax said. The three of them agreed that they would return to Calthia first thing in the morning but their uncle said that as soon as they had arrived in Rinsen, reports of Calthia stated that the roads to the farmland town were quickly closed off and that no one was allowed to get in or get out of Calthia. Hope had soon left their hearts as they all slumped back in their seats, sad and depressed about the report. Jax’s uncle said that they could try to go to Althisar like their aunt had suggested and see if they could confront the emperor. Drew stated that it was a meaningless attempt for the emperor wouldn’t listen to reason but he suggested that they form a type of resistance of some sort to overthrow the Althisarian empire and claim back Calthia. These ideas were still undecided as they all turned in for the night, knowing that the next day would bring up new decisions and new motives. The night passed and the streets were calm in the morning. Civilized people were roaming the streets as markets were bustling with shoppers that were busy bargaining for prices on items that were on sale that day. Jax and Alia’s aunt and uncle had gone off to a friend’s house for a little get together and their cousins had gone off to a little nearby resort to relax and have their own time to themselves. The three of them stayed in the home, planning their next course of action and planning on what they may need on the travel. “So are we really going to Althisar like Aunt Enora said?” Alia asked. “I think it may be the best thing to do since we don’t really have any other ideas at the time.” Jax said as he looked over a blank piece of paper and held a pencil in his hand, ready to jot down a list of items or a list of ideas. “Then if we’re going to Althisar we’ll need to plan out what stops to rest at and what we’ll need to bring. After all, Althisar is far east from here and it will take about three days of travel.” Drew stated. Drew pulled out a map of Eladen, the continent, and began to point out the pathway from Rinsen to Althisar. He marked on the map the stops they could take and expressed how many stops they should take. As Drew planned out the locations for the path, Alia and Jax were thinking of what supplies they would need for the journey such as rations, emergency medical supplies and other things. Once everything was arranged, they locked up the house and went off to the markets to purchase the items needed. The day seemed to go by fast as it was almost nightfall and they had returned to the house with everything needed. Uncle Joln had set the table up for dinner as their aunt was slaving over the stove again; working hard to make sure the food was prepared correctly and cooked to fill the starving stomachs. The three of them were fooling around with the cousins as Aunt Enora called out to let them know that dinner was on the table and ready to eat. After they scarfed down the delicious well-cooked home meal, Jax informed his aunt and uncle that they would be off on the road again, ready to continue their journey. “So…you’re going to Althisar then?” Uncle Joln asked as he rubbed his full belly. “Yeah. We’re going to try and see if we can meet with the emperor and somehow reason with him. Otherwise we’ll just find out what his true motives are, especially why he declared Calthia under his domain.” Jax answered. “Well the three of you be careful. There are bandits roaming around and pirates at sea. The world is full of many dangers.” Aunt Enora said. Jax nodded and smiled, assuring his relatives that they would be fine on their own. He walked to the guest bedroom and went to sleep, knowing he would need a lot of energy for the journey ahead. The new day had risen as the sun woke up the morning with a bright light. The streets were in their natural state with the townspeople roaming the streets to proceed with their daily lives. Jax, Alia and Drew said their farewells to Aunt Enora and Uncle Joln before they embarked on their journey again. Aunt Enora had informed them that the Odion Forest was much more dangerous this year since wolves had relocated in the area. The three took heed of her warning and set off once again knowing that if there was any further delay then the travel would possibly take more than three days. They were in the plains outside of town, slowly walking down the dirt road path as Alia took a small stop to examine the bundle of backpacks they brought along with them. Alia may have been very childish but she was usually the organized one in her family and amongst her friends. She was also known as the one that worried the most, making even the smallest things trouble her mind. After a confirmation from her, the three proceeded once again but the distance wasn’t very far for there was a caravan not too far that had been thrown off its road and had collided into a boulder. Three men and a woman were examining the damage to see if it was beyond repair. Jax suggested to his comrades that it’d be best if they checked on the caravan to see if they were in need of assistance. Drew was against it since he knew it would delay them longer but he knew that Jax wouldn’t listen to reason and would usually go with his own intentions. “Is everything all right here?” Jax asked as they cautiously approached the weary travelers. “Our caravan is damaged badly and we have no other means of fast transportation to reach Calthia.” one of the men said as he continued to examine the broken cart. “Oh…all roads and pathways to Calthia are sealed. It was ordered by Emperor Fidon.” Drew remarked as he felt something suspicious about the baby in the woman’s arms. “But if the roads to Calthia are closed…then how on earth will we make it in time to get our monthly supply of vegetables?” the woman said as she gently rocked her child to sleep. “Maybe you can get your vegetables at the market in Rinsen. Their vegetables are just as good as Calthia’s.” Alia said. The man that spoke earlier shook his head and said that Rinsen didn’t have enough vegetables they needed to supply the entire village they lived in. The other two men had gone to the side of the caravan that wasn’t visible as drew slowly stepped back, urging Jax and Alia to follow along. Jax questioned Drew’s worried expression for he was unsure as to why he was acting so strange. As the caravan was busy gathering behind the cart, Drew told Alia and Jax that he suspected that this was not a caravan but it was a group of bandits or thieves in disguise. Before Jax could say anything, the woman emerged from the cart and the cloth that wrapped the baby fell to the ground, revealing a sharp jagged dagger that she threw towards Alia who quickly drew out her bo-staff and spun it like a propeller to deflect the aerial dagger. The men jumped over the ruined caravan cart and drew their weapons as they all chased after the three. One of the three men stayed by the broken caravan as he gripped onto a magician’s staff, chanting an incantation as he gathered as much rem as possible to produce the spell he was preparing. Jax drew his sword and charged for one of the two men that were charging after them as Alia went after the woman. One of the two thieves raised his sword and tried to slash Jax but Jax rolled on the ground and got to his feet, making a horizontal slash as soon as he redirected his attention towards his attacker. The second thief tried to stab Jax in the back but Jax side-stepped enough to get a slight scrape on the right side of his stomach. Meanwhile Alia was having difficulty with the woman for the woman was trying to slash Alia in the chest but she had blocked it by putting her staff in front of her to deflect the blow. The magician near the caravan raised his staff in the air as a fireball appeared in the air and flew towards Drew. Drew stood his ground and focused his rem around him as it generated a sphere-like force field that deflected the magical attack and gave minimal damage to the young magician. Drew threw a needle at the magician as he quickly focused his rem once more and produced a lightning bolt that was decent enough to strike the enemy magician and stun him for a couple of seconds. Alia used her strength to put enough force forward and push the woman away as she ran towards the magician, spinning her bo-staff and beating the magician with it until he was knocked out on the ground. The woman had fallen to the ground and hesitated to get up before she thought of who to attack next and how. The mischievous woman quickly got up and ran towards Alia, attempting to strike the girl in the back with an ambush. Drew spun a needle in his hand and quickly threw it towards the woman’s heel of her left foot. The needle lodged itself in and impaled her in the left foot which made her collapse to the ground before she could actually reach the careless female. Alia turned to see the woman collapse and saw Drew smile and wave at her, smiling at him back as a symbol of thanks. Alia ran past the woman and returned to Drew as Drew was channeling rem within his body to produce a stronger spell and assist Jax with the two men that were attacking him. The second thief ran by Jax, slashing him hard in the back as the young swordsman quickly regained his composure and flipped over the first thief, spinning around from behind and slashing the thief in the back about five times. The first thief was now suffering from minor wounds but the air in the area was most likely to bring in dust that would enter through the cuts and most likely infect the thief and make him ill. The thief grew worried that the wounds would get worse and so he ran towards the mountains, retreating to their secret base located there. The woman slowly arose to her feet, flinching as she felt the pain from the lodged needle in her left heel after she had removed it. The slightly impaled woman limped her way after the first thief as the second thief knew that they were forced to escape. It wasn’t long before the second thief followed his comrades as they had left the magician behind due to him being unconscious. The three of them regrouped and Alia checked Jax’s cuts and bruises. Luckily they had brought extra medical kits along and she helped patch up any cuts that Jax had all over him. Drew was busy examining any remains of the cart before he burned it to dispose of any particular evidence that may stir up trouble. The only thing he found in his search was a small supply of daggers, most likely extras that the woman had stashed away. He grabbed them and lit the caravan on fire, dragging the knocked out magician to a nearby boulder and letting him rest there. Drew walked over to his comrades and pointed out that there was a little hut towards the entrance of the forest. He remarked that it was naturally a post for a guardsman to lie in but since the forest contained any travelers going to and from, there was no need for any guards. The three gathered their items and headed to the hut, using it as a shelter for the night. Alia had fallen fast asleep as Drew was busy overlooking the map again, marking any obstacles that may delay their journey even further. Jax knew that little incident had wasted the entire day and that they were now behind schedule; though his main hope was that they would solve the situation in Calthia in time. He looked at Drew who was having a frustrated look on his face as he could hear his best friend murmuring side comments about what could happen and if there were any possible shortcuts they could take. Jax hoped that answers would come and come soon because he felt rather tired with so many events taking place one after the other. Jax lied down in his little sleeping area and closed his eyes, knowing Drew would soon turn off the candle when he had to go sleep. The Odion Forest not only contained wolves but there were other mysterious things that dwelled within those woods and Jax knew that he would all energy possible to help fend off that danger in order to make it through this journey in one piece. |
