going to start cleaning up the block over the next week. for the bottom end rebuild i think it will need.. a e30 325i alloy sump, oil pick up, a fresh oil filtter and a gallon of good oil.. its that fresh.. it looks to have had an easy life which is a bonus

i will be removing the head from the high comp engine thats in my sport very soon ( i know you want the manifold when i do ) to get it checked rebuild if need be then get it onto its new home..

Mine was built by Iain Temple (templ8e30) off the 'Zone.
It's a 10.2:1cr eta bottom-end with 731 'head. It has 325i valves and the inlet ports have been opened-out to 325i size. The cam is a standard 325i one.
In its previous incarnation (before the 'head work was done), it put out 185bhp/185ft.lb. It hasn't yet been dyno'd in its current spec.

James, I've just seen a post of yours on the 'Zone.....

didint realise the ETA bottom ends were becoming so rare... ive just recently purchased one which im planning on building a 2.7 from. im not chasing big power but im tempted on building a 2.8 as ive got the chance of a good complete engine and box for £150 might just sell the parts i wont use and hopefully have the crank for free
FWIW, if the engine's going in your Sport, I'd put an M52B28 crank in your high comp. M20B25. That way the car is nearer original.
I can't help thinking (in spite of all the talk elsewhere) that putting an 885 'head on an eta bottom-end isn't the right way to do a 2.7.
I also can't help thinking that an eta/731-type 2.7 in a Sport isn't right either.

Just my 2p, sir!

hi Stuart. being honest the engine thats in my sport at present ive never heard it running an dfear the worst from it. my plans are to use the 2.7 for the moment get the original engine out of the car then through time build this into a 2.8 to replace the 2.7 hopefully by then ill have another touring or baur where i can rehome the 2.7 into

and yes before any one comments... I WANT A BAUR !!!!!!

Nothing wrong with that.
I've been watching the debate on the 'Zone. Looks to me like all the Baur-haters are the same people who think any E30 with more than 2 doors should be crushed. screwy banghead

I agree with that one Stuart.. we had the convertible which Bernadette loved but she hated the size of the boot. also it was the fact that you couldnt drop the roof with the wee one in the car. where as the baur is more flexible with the roof and has the full size boot. the rool over section plus it has the solid sides so less wind for any one in the back
