Nex rose after Lucy and Liber had left, gazing cooly at the man whose name he couldn't remember before making his way to the door. It was standard practice to meet somewhere nearby when no one was told where exactly to meet. So he began a systematic search of the surrounding area, finding the others after fifteen minutes of looking. "Its always the last place you look." |

It was fairly amusing, watching the others stumble around the area, looking for them. It would have been so easy to step out of the shadows to get their attention, but certainly less of a joy. Finally though, Nex found the back alley he, Lucy and Rosaline had claimed, muttering under his breath as he approached. "Likely because one tends to stop looking when what is being sought has been found," Liber laughed, craning his neck for any sign of Vinar leaving the pub. "Hmm . . . now I do wonder what is keeping that man? I do hope he hasn't gotten himself into any trouble. . . ." |

Vinar stepped from the shadows behind them and said, "Who, me?" He smiled at their surprise. "Besides which, I tend to look even after one's objective is found. Not the end, but the journey and all that, eh?" |

"Looking any further then five minutes ahead is a waste of time. In five minutes a fight can start and end, one can run a mile or more, or a dozen headhunters can appear out of the woodwork. Honestly, its a pointless practice thats lead to more bad results then good." Nex retorted, having had more then a few bad experiences when carefully laid plans had gone horribly awry.

((Longer, Matt, longer! 'Tis an advanced roleplay board--less than a solid paragraph equates to, most usually, fail. I'm really only half-joking, about this--I'm not trying to rip on you or anything, but honestly . . . your posts need to be a just touch longer. I mean, I might spend fifteen minutes on a single-paragraph post, just because I have a tendency to write tersely.)) "Damn it, man!--I've told you not to do that. Where was that ridiculous hat you were wearing? I want to be able to see you next time you try to sneak up on us." That's right, Vinar always did have that annoying habit of popping up behind you when you least expected it, didn't he? Something Liber never did get used to, to be certain. Still though, it wasn't something he should complain about--it is quite a valuable skill in this particular profession. Regaining his composure, Liber looked over to Rosaline. "So then, how about showing us off to this house of yours? I'm sure we'd all really like to learn what everyone knows about the Fall and who was behind it. . . . Those who died; who might else have escaped; those that defected. . . ." His voice trailed off, the possibility of such a betrayal was nearly too much to think about. It was such a cloistered group, exclusive to only those that were trusted beyond a doubt; conditioned to withstand torture, bribery. But all that it would have taken is a single member turned rogue, trying to wipe the blood off his hands. ((Sorry, I'm not totally sure where the story is going, so I'm following the characters and the story line until I'm sure, but it's for the time being --Matt a.k.a. G'reth)) ((Bah, no one's got any idea where the plot's going--no worries there. XD From here [Rosaline's house], a predictable path would include: the exchanging of knowledge on the Fall of the Scian; a short quest to track down remaining members/others who might have further information; and finally an epic battle against those who betrayed the organisation/led the manhunt. Of course, we may well just settle down in the village selling cabbage at a roadside stand--it's open for interpretation. So, yeah . . . go ahead and do whatever you want with it; you've got as much control over it as anyone else and can influence it however you feel is best. ![]() Oh dear . . . I sense an edit Armageddon. XD)) Edited by Corinth, 5 Apr 2008, 08:50.

Rosaline looked up at the mention of her name, lifting her lips up into a warm smile. "Absolutely! If you'll all be so kind as to follow me..." She took a few steps toward the edge of the alley, where more sunlight shone, "The trip'll be quick and easy." She began to head off, pausing a few times to make sure the others were following, before promptly arriving at a small home, built for two or three people. She entered, leaving the entryway open for them to access the house and all its components. She stepped to the side and waited for all of them to enter before shutting the door and glancing out the window. Rosaline hadn't been kidding when she had said desolate- the 'neighborhood' had about five houses, including hers, set quite a few ways apart from the others. The main thing that separated them were trees, which Rosaline had always found pleasant. She shut the curtains, a common practice, and turned to face her guests. "Welcome, everyone, to my humble abode." She spoke; the place had a two-person couch, and a table with three matching chairs nearby. "And I mean humble; The server salary doesn't get you much anywhere, really." She smiled, hovering her eyes over the people inside her house. "Make yourselves at home! Sit down, relax." She nodded, waving her fragile hands towards them, eagerly. |

Tears to Roses

Lucy followed Rosalie to her out of the way home. As she walked along she occasionally glanced at her fellow Scian members. For ex-members of an organization that was destroyed from the inside, they sure were trusting of everyone else. Had she been the one who betrayed the Scian, and I'm not saying that she is, then this is exactly how she'd want them to act, trusting enough to be lead to a location they knew nothing about by people that supposedly worked with them. It'd be horrible really, to lead them on and then eventually turn on them all. It'd be diabolical and down-right evil, but someone would have to be to think of betraying the Scian in the first place. She shuffled into the house with the rest of them, leaning against a nearby wall insted of sitting down as Rosalie invited them to do. She crossed her arms over her chest, eyes lightly dancing from one member to another- wondering just who'd say something first. Edited by Klockwork, 6 Apr 2008, 06:46.

((Selling cabbage, eh? Hmm... xD)) Vinar followed likewise into Lucy's home. Yes, humble is the right word for it... He thought, though he said nothing. So is there where it's all meant to play out? The confrontations, the mixed pasts, the tension, all of it here? How gauche. Very well, if this is what it takes, I suppose I'll play along. "So what news have you all since the fall? I've heard that the ex-members are being systematically taken out, one by one. Anyone heard anything about that?" |

Rosaline took her time, watching her acquaintances. She bit down on her lip, nervous for two main reasons: the fact that one of them may be a headhunter, and the fact that the stress in the air was thick enough to pierce through. She let out a sigh of relief when Vinar finally spoke, and she replied likewise. "No, actually...news doesn't spread very well around here. Or, at least, it doesn't reach my ears unless I hear it from the girls at the tavern." She gave a small shrug, "In the years that I've been living here, nothing has happened, thankfully..." She gave him a smile, her pretty blue eyes watching him for a brief second before turning away, towards one of the curtains on her window. "It's strange, really...I'm surprised that I haven't been killed yet." She paused a moment, her morbid words reflecting back to her as she thought of them, "I mean, seeing as how long I've been here, and all. It's unusual....if the headhunters are as good as they claim, why haven't I been one of their targets?" She paused, thinking over her question before giving a small shrug, "Then again, nobody ever suspected me of anything around here. To them, I'm just a measly waitress without a family." |

Until then, Liber had been quietly staring out of a window, the sky was clouding over, it looked like a heavy rain was coming. Was it betrayal, or only a slip of the tongue that did them in? Certainly, there would have been those to benefit greatly from the destruction of the Scian. "We had been contracted by the Queen Medb of Gamab to assassinate the Baron Imre, who was holding the land of Manes in sub-fief. Manes, as you know, is rich in spices; from Balor's death, Medb could have hoped to gain fief-complete and taken full control of the land and the profits. If there had been anyone to buy out a member of our . . . group, the good Baron would be our first suspect." We have known that the Scian is not impermeable--there have been spies found in decades past, though they have been dealt with before any great harm could be done to us. The possibility of a renegade member seems remote, if you become Scian, you will have some certain bloodlust, if not an appreciation for death." The young man paused, seating himself in a corner, looking old, tired. "I have heard whispers of headhunters taking the lives of other members over the last few years--Itzli, Anahita, . . . Lilith--so it would seem a price still to be on our heads. Unless you all have any better information, I would suggest us to start with him . . . with the Baron." ((Hooray for obvious and clichéd plot twists! Yay!)) Edited by Corinth, 8 Apr 2008, 05:15.
