"Don't make a girl a promise you can't keep."

"Well..." Rosaline glanced to the side, almost as if counting her next words, and weighing the possibilities. "...almost. You see," She paused and looked back at him, lowering her voice so only he would be able to hear her. Although the tavern was loud, the waitresses often made practice of talking in quiet voices, knowing just what pitch to remove so the others could still hear. It was easy for her to speak quietly, seeing as how her calm nature often compelled her to do so. "You all look so familiar...it's like I knew you all before. But...I can't place my finger on just exactly where." She glanced away again; from the distance it looked as if the two were having a simple conversation.
She knew her next words were risky, he could easily be a head-hunter. But, still, he seemed like a trustworthy fellow, and Rosaline had a knack for trusting certain people easily. "As if I knew all of you...ten years ago."
That was a head-raiser. However, she was still in her low speaking voice, so she was glad when nobody around turned to look at her. She was certain there were probably some head-hunters in the tavern somewhere, most likely in the desolate corners trying to watch for their next prey. Rosaline, however, was blessed with the ability to look and act innocent, too.
She raised her eyes to the man again, her pink lips pursing briefly before she curled them into a smile. She was afraid of his response, and although she looked calm, deep inside she was quivering with fear. It was almost as if she'd raised a red flag in front of him, waving it in his face, as a sign of her former position with the Scian.

The girl's words jolted Liber back into the present, leaving him with a feeling of remorse. It had been far too long since he had seen family or homeland. And now, would it seem that another member of the Scian stood before him? He certainly did not recognise the girl, but how else would she have known about the Fall? A bounty hunter, mayhaps--but no, she looks too innocent. But then, she was claiming to be Scian, an incriminating thing in-it-of-itself. After a moment of consideration, Liber began slowly, quietly, "Come, let us sit with the others. It seems that you know us, but we have not yet remembered your face."

I am Liber Caelestus, if you do not remember me by name. My companions are Lucy and Vinar, though I shall not reveal more of them without their consent. It appears," he said, glancing back to his companions, "that we have been joined by another whom I do not recognise. With such a growing group, it would probably be wise to move to a less conspicuous location--if we are all who we say, then it might be quite dangerous for our conversations to be overheard by unwanted strangers."

Rosaline analyzed his words carefully, holding back a sigh of relief. Her smile became relaxed, and she nodded at him, glancing past to look at the people sitting at the table. "I have a small home not far from here, about a few minutes' walk. If you, as well as they, can trust me, we may move there. The place is a little desolate - not too many people live nearby...I have never been suspected of anything here, but I don't know where else is a possibility." She said quietly, turning her sapphire eyes to look at him once more.
If he looked close enough at her hands he would notice she was trembling, but just barely. The small portion of her body she couldn't control was the only thing making her quiver. However, she paid not much attention to it and continued on.
"I was merely filling in today, but when I came in my boss told me I wouldn't need to be here long. After the trouble I've caused, I'm sure she'd like me gone, anyway." Her cheeks turned a warm red color and she let out a small, nervous laugh.
She paused a moment to think, "I don't know if it'd be a good idea for all to leave at once. Perhaps one by one, depending on what time they arrived? I believe you and the young lady at the table came here together, so you two could leave together...as for the rest I'm not so sure what they'd like to do, but we can always present the idea to them." She explained, furrowing her brows slightly as she thought of a few other things.
She glanced briefly to see her boss looking in her direction, motioning towards the door. She gave him a curteous nod before looking back at Liber. "I must apologize for my rudeness, Liber." She hoped he wouldn't be offended if she called him by his first name, "My name is Rosaline Clairvaux, perhaps that might ring a bell to the others." She lowered her head slightly, as if presenting herself for the first time, "I'll join you at your table, but I'll get all of you a second round of drinks first, as an excuse. And tell them not to fret, the bartender won't mind if I say they're on the house." She offered him a small smile again, "My boss wants me out of here in a few minutes, so it's most likely your table will be the last table I serve." She paused, blinking once and letting out a soft chuckle, "I apologize if I've talked too much, I'm just excited. If you'll excuse me for a moment, I'll be right back with some drinks for all of you." She said, giving him barely any time for a response before turning and heading off towards the bar, exchanging a few words with the bartender, and simply awaiting drinks.

Lucy, despite listening to the two guys at the table with her, was also trying to listen in on Liber and the barmaid's conversation. Stupid cautious folk, speaking softly. It made it hard for her to hear in on what they were saying. From the little snip-its she gathered, they were going to be leaving the tavern soon. Fine by her, the smell of beer and smoke was starting to get to her. She lifted the drink up to her mouth, taking the last sip from it. Before she set it down she began talking. "There's another, be ready to up and leave the tavern boys." She said to Vinar and Nex. She wiped the corner of her mouth with her tattered sleeve, and then lifted her hand to the air.

"Another round over here." She eyed Rosaline with a bit of a grin. You've got your excuse to come over here, should be a good enough reason. Rosaline just walking over with drinks... that'd draw attention, especially from drunk fools who wanted a drink of their own. But if they asked for more drinks...

"I try not to antagonize people who are crazy enough to claim to be ex-Scian members." Nex made sure to avoid saying that he was one as well. They'd remember him or figure it out soon enough, but the paranoia of having to hide from head-hunters that would linger in a town for weeks on end before moving out. Sure there were plenty that had just disappeared, but for every one dead a dozen more poured out of the woodwork and forced him back into hiding. "But where are my manners, I'm sitting here threatning to turn your little group in for enough money to keep me going the rest of my life. I suppose the least I should do is tell you my name. I'm Nex Maroda." His macabre sense of humor showed through in his joke of being a headhunter, though if they took him seriously he doubted that he would be able to take three of them, let alone any real headhunters that were undoubtedly lurking around.

Rosaline put the drinks on the tray, shaking slightly. When the bartender looked at her suspiciously and asked her what was wrong, she immediately composed herself and gave him a convincing smile. "I guess the shock from dropping that drink and getting yelled at still hasn't gone away. It's getting better though." She watched as he simply nodded, wiping the counter when she removed the tray, leaving it spotless.
"I suppose I'd better go and deliver these...boss wants me out of here in a few minutes, might as well make the most money that I can." She winked at him, turning before heading back to the familiar table. Since she had a bit of practice holding the tray, she set the drinks down effortlessly in front of their respective owners.
She glanced at Lucy, speaking quietly to her, "Thank you for that help earlier. Sometimes I forget to think of small details like that." She smiled again, setting Lucy's drink before her before holding the tray and smiling at all of them. "Now then, did I get the correct drinks for everyone?" She asked; Rosaline was a very observant girl. She saw her boss looking in her direction out of the corner of her eye, but she paid no mind; this table was her last one for the day, anyway.
She let out a quiet sigh, reaching up and tucking a strand of chocolate hair behind her ear. Her pretty blue eyes, although good at hiding her emotions, showed her relaxing in their presence. They became alert when they heard Nex's joke, but she knew that kind of crude humor too well to take it seriously. She let out a quiet chuckle, looking at him before glancing at all the others at the table, analyzing their faces. She tried to remember names and patch them up with faces, but her efforts turned up futile and she eventually gave up. If she didn't really remember them too well, how could they possibly remember her?

What an interesting day it was turning out to be, indeed. The workings of Fortune were strange in their ways and heeded none but Her own whims. . . . Lucy, it would seem, had the good sense to listen in on his conversation, shouting for a new round of drinks as they two departed, a good a way as any to keep suspicions at bay. But then came the task of leaving, doing so in a way both suspicious and innocuous: the latter to keep from arousing the former and the former to help disguise the latter. Oh! what cursed meanings-within-meanings these charades demanded.

But enough--the latest round of drinks were fast in coming. "To Lucy!" Liber proposed raising his glass, "A more devilish woman than you'll ever lay eyes on and a better mate* you couldn't ask for." Soon again, the false revelries resumed, nothing but games between a few drunkards, fading again as the last swills were drained. There was not sign of Rosaline anywhere nearby, probably waiting for the rest in a recessed ally not to far from the tavern. And so, friends and strangers must again depart in the most casual of fashions from the public view.

"Well, I've had about as much to drink as I ought have on an empty stomach. I do suppose that we shall be takin' our leave from your company. 'Twas a pleasure to meet ye both: Brecht; Michaƫl," he said in turn. It really would have been a shame if any had heard slip the party's true names earlier in their conversations, more likely a drunk would have than not, but still. . . .

Rosaline put her borrowed apron in the back, where the clothes were supposed to be washed. She removed the few tips she had gotten that morning and put them in a small bag, jingling the coins around and looking around at her coworkers, who were staring at her. "What?" She asked, innocently. The girls simply 'congratulated' her on her tips, although they were seething inside. Rosaline had made more than the girls who had been there since the tavern opened that morning.
She gave a small shrug and went towards the back, the small bag jingling at her side. She raised her hands up, removing the string keeping her hair in a ponytail and shook her head, allowing the locks to flutter about shamelessly. She made her way toward the back exit of the tavern, where the girls usually left so as to avoid all the drunk men exiting from the front.
She hummed quietly to herself, walking a small ways before dodging into a corner, allowing herself the freedom of a desolate alley. Her home wasn't too far off, simply a walk away.
She stood in the alley patiently, she was certain that Liber and his friends, companions, or acquaintences, whichever group they fell into, would show up eventually. Although she hadn't given him specific directions, she had a good feeling that he would head over this way, and either of them would spot each other.

(in response to if he's ex-Scian) "Well, I suppose there's no harm in revealing myself; besides which, others seem to have done it for me! Yes, I am ex-Scian. As for the clothes, modesty never hurt, did it? Flashy's just fun, that's all." At this, he winked at Lucy. Noticing others appeared to be leaving, he concurred, "Good. I never did like the eavesdrop-at-a-bar-and-pretend-to-drink-trick. Too much work."

Lucy felt quite proud of herself for the moment, she felt more like a true Scian member then she ever had. Funny, it takes the decimation of the Scian, ten years of break, and a chance encounter to actually make her feel like a true member of the organization. Go figure. Before taking a decent portion from her drink, she clinked her glass against Liber's, smiling at his praise before downing most, if not all, of her beverage. Screw the lady-like manners she'd tried earlier. Not only did tiny sips suck, but she didn't exactly fit the proper lady sterotype in any other way. She set her mug down on the table, rising as Liber did. "The devilish women has to take her angel home now... less he start wandering the streets drunk." She put on a motherly voice and smiled to the two men still sitting at the table, nodding to the two of them before pressing her hand lightly against Liber's shoulder to get him moving towards the door. Standing in one spot too long, a noticable thing. Funny how once you start avoiding noticable situations, you spot more and more everywhere you luck.
