A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Founded in 2010 by Phantom, Remains of the Republic has its roots in Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) for the PS2, becoming one of its most successful Europe-based clans.

In 2015-2016, we were active on the new Star Wars Battlefront (2015) game. Though just a group of friends playing for fun occasionally, we still managed to win the EU Cup in a tournament.

Every now and then we fire up our old PS2's to play SWBF2 again, all remaining players from the EU joining forces to play in friendly tournaments along with players from the United States, where there's a larger remaining user base.

These days, RoR mainly functions as a homebase where old and new players meet up to stay in touch and play Battlefront as well as other games.

Well fellow gamers, it's been a good run but it looks like the end is in sight. It has been announced that GLU, the company that took over Powered by GameSpy is shutting it all down May 31.

IGN is shit

Gamespy only hosts master servers though. You can still easily use VLAN. But that would be the end for paid servers. Unless my american hacker friend VA Eyes Only worked out his solution for this (he told me a year ago hes working on it lol)

I did some testing today using Openspy, which is basically just someone hosting a server list for several old PS2 online games.

http://openspy.net

Its really easy to set up all you do is edit or make a new network configuration with these as the manual DNS inputs:
Primary DNS IP: 99.198.122.113
Secondary DNS IP: 208.67.222.222

I am able to play SWBF1 online and connect to 4 mans right now. Theres some people playing on there. If things actually do stop working for us on the 31st of May all we need to figure out is how to host dedicated servers on Openspy. I'll be talking to a bunch of people and trying to figure things out.

Oh nice, not sure what exactly OpenSpy is but it sounds promising... about dedicated server, wouldnt it be enough to use that DNS on the pc hosting the server? I'll test it if someone wants to test it with me

Also, is there any interest in a EU-team signing up for the BFC? The tournament will be taking place within May, obviously.

The people at SWBF Gamers are mostly SWBF1 PC gamers but have a lot of experience with OpenSpy. Someone has even written a patch for the SWBF1 PC executable that redirects it to OpenSpy.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has yet been successful with getting a dedicated server to work on OpenSpy. OpenSpy appears to be a hobby project focused on supporting Tony Hawk Pro Skater and is unreliable.

Most of these players are still using Tunngle.

Did they try to use that modified exe instead of dedicated server's exe? or modify ded. server exe itself? Btw this is illegal but I doubt they care

There is some hope!

This is basically EA saying they'd check all the possibilitys about keeping SWB2 MP up.
It also seems like somebody from swb3.de is working on an alternative program which will look a bit like this. Not sure if he will finish the project. This is also for the PC-version only by the way.

Until further notice, rest in peace Star Wars Battlefront 2. Eight and a half years isn't bad at all. Mind you, the past year and a half it has been an utter shadow of its former self. But it's always been there. The community has taken the biggest hit, but that was inevitable. I started when I was 14 and I'll be 23 this year. Pretty crazy. Pretty much all of my self-conscious life (around age 11 onwards, I'd say) I've been attached or involved in this game at least peripherally. Roll on Star Wars Battlefront, the flag-bearer of the new era.

You know,it would be THE coupe de grace,if WE kept SWBF2 alive.Look on other games that will lose their MP:
You think somebody cares about the MP of GTA IV or Red Dead:Redemption? Or about all the Nintendo WiFi games?

This would THE ultimate success of the 2000s.
