A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Founded in 2010 by Phantom, Remains of the Republic has its roots in Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) for the PS2, becoming one of its most successful Europe-based clans.

In 2015-2016, we were active on the new Star Wars Battlefront (2015) game. Though just a group of friends playing for fun occasionally, we still managed to win the EU Cup in a tournament.

Every now and then we fire up our old PS2's to play SWBF2 again, all remaining players from the EU joining forces to play in friendly tournaments along with players from the United States, where there's a larger remaining user base.

These days, RoR mainly functions as a homebase where old and new players meet up to stay in touch and play Battlefront as well as other games.

So, the PS4 was announced yesterday by Sony, and looks extremely good. It has been dubbed as a 'super PC' and 'the world's fastest gaming network'.

The hardware looks fantastic, and most analysts doubt that the XBOX 720 will be able to surpass the PS4 in terms of power: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/so-just-how-powerful-are-the-ps4-and-xbox-720-going-to-be-1127315
Similarly, you may recall that the PlayStation 3 had much better hardware including a CPU that was three times faster with an extra core; a GPU with better bandwidth; a faster and more efficient RAM, as well as Bluetooth 2.0 (which the XBOX 360 didn't have) and also Blu-ray discs, which are less prone to scratching (which the XBOX 360 also didn't have).

Here are some of the features of the PS4:
- The controller will have a built in touch screen as well as headphone jacks.
- In addition, the PS4 will have a motion sensor type device, which should pave the way for motion gaming, not with a separate controller, but with the DualShock 4 controller itself.
- Due to the PS4 being dubbed as a "super PC", you will not be able to play PS1, 2 or 3 games on it. However, Sony have said that they'll be streaming games all the way back to the PS1 eventually, onto the PS4.
- The controller will have a button which allows you to instantly spectate on your friends while they play in-game, and also play for them if they're stuck on a level. It will also allow you to share video game clips, and the PS4 automatically records and keeps the last 15 minutes of your gameplay.
- There is a greater emphasis on social networking, with built-in connectivity to Facebook, for example.
- There will also be greater integration with smartphones and tablets.
- As mentioned earlier, streaming games over the internet will be a big feature of the console.
- There is an emphasis on cloud-computing, as mentioned earlier with the downloading of games. You'll be able to access Netflix TV shows and Amazon Movie Rentals.
- The memory will have at least 0.61 units of raw computing power more than the XBOX 720. It's so good that you can switch the PS4 off and then just switch it back on and resume from where you left off.(A bit like playing DVDs on the PS3, where you can take the DVD out and put it back in and it'll still remember the place that you were last at).
- Games such as inFamous and KillZone have already been announced.
- You can play games while downloading things from the store, and eventually the PS4 will get to know your likes and download things automatically for you. No download waiting times any longer.

It's already available for pre-order in England. The price hasn't been announced yet, but I'm certainly pre-ordering it. It could be around £300, but Sony have said it won't be as expensive as the PS3 was originally (around $400-$500)

Game developers such as Rockstar, LucasArts and SEGA are already making games for the PS4, in addition.

Always depends on the price, but I don't think I'll get it that soon as I'm quite happy with the PS3.

Yes, the pricing will be a big factor in when people get it. We know it'll certainly be less than $499, however. This means that it'll be less than £330 British Pounds, and 380 euros.

I just think that the difference of the graphic won't be that big, so I'll probably keep playing PS3 for a long time. I don't need all these special functions like a touch screen or a social media button :D

The graphics card and the videos seem to suggest that the graphics will be one of the key areas of improvement, but the PS3 as you say will suffice for a long time to come yet. It's a shame that no game pushed the high-end hardware of the PS3 to its full capacity, though. They'll not be phasing out support for the PS3 anytime soon.

I think PS4 came out too early, however, it will come to stores around december(?)
And I'm not the only one saying this...

I think PS3 is just fine even it's 6 years old, I'm propably not going to get it for a looooong time (or maybe if it's price is around 200€ xD)

The very bad thing there is that you can't play PS3 games on it, and if it has trophies, I hope u can sync ps3 trophies to ps4.

I'll stick up with my ps3 as I've heared that it doesn't have the ability to play former PS version games. Maybe I'll buy one in a far future.

It might be early for people who got their PS3s in 2011 or later, but I think the timing is perfect. Traditionally, the console life cycle has been 6 years, so they'll have kept the PS3 going for 7 years, 1 year longer than expected, as they made the decision to skip a 2012 release.

The reason why you cannot play PS3 games on it is because the graphics, memory and processing is far, far better than the PS3's. However, they will be streaming games as I mentioned in the OP for games as far back as PS1. "From PS1 classics to PS3 platinums". So, yes, you will be able to play PS3 games in actual fact, on the PS4. I don't really care about the PS3 games anyway to be honest. Only people who like playing on older PS3 games will care about this fact, it seems. The majority of games that I play are renewed every year (CoD and FIFA, etc), so that's fine. It's uncertain whether the new CoD game will come out on these next gen consoles. They'll be releasing GTA V for the PS3 first I guess, but then make a version for the PS4. I'll still have a PS3 anyway, so if I want to play on a PS3 game, I'll play it - simple.

I don't care about the trophies either, as I never got going on them, so I'd like a fresh start. The trophy sync may all depend on how the network on the PS4 will shape up.

Will Sony involve the PSN in PS4?

They haven't released many details about the network itself yet. It must be based on cloud computing, but we're not sure whether they're incorporating PSN into it. There will definitely be something similar though, seeing as they've already told us that we'll be able to jump into our friends' games. Another thing that seems to be implied is cross-game chatting. The Vita already has it, and with the features already announced, it would seem silly not to have cross-game chatting if you can even jump into your friend's games.

As for the games, the new inFamous game looks great, as well as the new Killzone game, and also Watch Dogs.
