| A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Founded in 2010 by Phantom, Remains of the Republic has its roots in Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) for the PS2, becoming one of its most successful Europe-based clans. In 2015-2016, we were active on the new Star Wars Battlefront (2015) game. Though just a group of friends playing for fun occasionally, we still managed to win the EU Cup in a tournament. Every now and then we fire up our old PS2's to play SWBF2 again, all remaining players from the EU joining forces to play in friendly tournaments along with players from the United States, where there's a larger remaining user base. These days, RoR mainly functions as a homebase where old and new players meet up to stay in touch and play Battlefront as well as other games. |

For those of you who don't know, Steam is primarily an on line software distribution network created by Valve Corporation to distribute their PC games such as the Half Life and Left 4 Dead series. They have added non-Valve titles to this network including the PC version of Star Wars Battlefront II for purchase as well. There are also community functions built into the Steam network. There is a Star Wars Battlefront II community on Steam Game Hub and individual groups such as the one started by the few remaining Japanese players who formerly played on the PS2 version. be careful when buying swbf2 pc off steam I heard it's already pre-updated to 1.1 patch which sucks and has far less players online |

I had not noticed that but I see what you mean. That is most unfortunate, but at least they still allow both versions to be played on line, which is more than they did for SWBF 1 PS2 version. Once it was patched it they no longer listed unpatched games on the GameSpy server list. Yes the Steam version is pre-patched to v1.1 and I know of no way around that. I had also purchased SWBFII on a CD for $7 off a clearance rack, but that too was version 1.1. This makes it very difficult to legally acquire a non-patched copy of v1.0. Roughly about 60% of the servers appear to be running v1.0 and 40% running v1.1. Either way there are a lot of players on both versions. I'll have to troll eBay for a v1.0 CD, but they typically do not list the specific version and I do not see it on the CD or jewel case. I am curious, What is the reason for players not wanting the patch? It was my understanding that the only change was to add support for Logitec LCD devices that display game stats. Getting back on topic.... I see the biggest downside to Steam is that it's a resource hog for CPU and bandwith. |

I don't know about usa region but I checked 2 weeks ago and 1.1 had less than 10 players online, while 1.0 has around 100 players online usually about the patch, try dvd version, I have it and its 1.0 1.1 version added better mod support I think (only thing i noticed was the names and descriptions in maplist |

There are no region restrictions in the PC version. Just now there were 226 SWBFII PC servers running worldwide. Of those 145 were running v1.0 with 407 players and the remaining 81 were running v1.1 with 113 players. I will look into the DVD versions, but I'm not going to start buying DVD's on ebay in the hope of getting one that's v1.0 without some assurances first. I still do not understand why PC players would stay on the older version unless there is an issue with the newer one. It seems desirable to consolidate players under one version, more players = more fun. What am I missing? Does this have to do with compatibility with the triphamm3r's patched dedicated server file? I'll have to surf some of the PC/modder forums. P.S. I've found while there is no region restriction in the PC version, the server's displayed can be limited to your region. This can be disabled from the main menu by selecting the "Options" button at the top. Then selecting the "Online" button. Make sure you have "Search all regions" option selected. Apparently mine was on by default. Edited by PyroJockey, Feb 11 2013, 08:23 PM.

yeah ofcourse I know about that option, the reason I have it disabled is because overseas servers lag too much, and also timezones difference about dvd version thing, you could try download a iso off internet that is 1.0 (Ive had one before I purchased original) only problem is that you cant join servers without having working original cdkey
