Many of our regulars here at Electronic Theatre have been enquiring about Ubisoft’s recently announced Online Services Platform for the PC and the Digital Rights Management (DRM) contained therein. It appears that the publisher has noticed your concern, and has released a brief question and answers (Q&A) session to curb your fears.

Seemingly much more open for the player than either Microsoft’s Games for Windows service or Valve’s incredibly popular Steam, Ubisoft’s Online Services Platform allows PC gamers to play their games on any PC with an internet connection. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and we’ll only really know how efficient and reliable the Online Services Platform will be when we’ve had the chance to use it. But for now you can take a look at the details delivered directly by Ubisoft, and wonder when other PC gaming platforms will take note.

First and foremost, the screen is perfect for gaming. The tablet won’t be using a standard a LCD screen, like most people originally thought, but feature the new technology of organic light emitting diode (OLED). This is great for gaming because of how deep the black levels should be, which in the end, help the graphics ‘pop-out’ more for the player. Not only that, the unit should be ridiculously thin, probably even thinner than most portable devices, including the iPhone. This could help make the device more attractive for people who want it for the go.

Calancanis briefly talked about some of the games on the “iSlate.” While it doesn’t sound like he played a whole lot, he did say it looks like “Nintendo Wii-Level innovation.” Although it was unclear if he meant the graphics look like the Wii, or the games play like the popular home console. Either way he felt gaming should make a huge impact on the device and even promised this will be one of the main features talked about at the unveiling tomorrow in San Francisco.

Apple iSlate *Taking a stab at DS and PSP market? Apple is doing so it seems. Battery life seems to be biggest flaw though and was often the complaint of the PSP system.

For a while now, the community over at The Secret World has noticed things in the game that are distinctly influenced by the writings of horror master H.P. Lovecraft. From the original poster that revealed a beast that reminded many of Cthulhu to the whole idea of secret societies and monsters that exist beyond time and space. So when The Secret World community members stumbled upon a website for the fictional town of Kingsmouth, many weren't surprised.

Kingsmouth, a mash-up of Lovecraft's Kingsport and Innsmouth (and, to an unnamed extent, Arkham), is the typical New England town that Lovecraft so loved to talk about. It's sleepy, it's quiet, it's community is entrenched, and there are probably more monsters than people. Lovecraftian references are abound from the aptly named Miskatonic River (see Miskatonic University) to the town's presence as a port on the coastline.

“I can’t really comment on that because we haven’t officially announced that we’re working on it” Todesson explained. “But we were very happy and proud of Mirror’s Edge one as a studio, so we are thinking about what we are going to do in the future.”

“It's important to us to find other projects”

“As a studio we’re pretty dedicated to the FPS genre and DICE was pretty much build on the Battlefield franchise, but that doesn’t mean that’s what we going to continue doing in the future. It’s important for us to find other projects and other games that perhaps can turn into IP’s and then later on franchises. Mirror’s Edge was a big test for us and you’re going to start seeing more of these in the near future.”

Rockstar Games has recently revealed that they'll be soon unveiling actual game details for L.A. Noire, which they make sound is dead on track. It's really "ground-breaking and innovative" they claim.
