Launch:
------------------------------- Well I personally believe. PS4 Option 1: 8/12/16 core CPU(Possibly AMD FX or AMD Server lineup CPU) + AMD Kaveri APU + Modified AMD 7970M GPU (rumored at 1.840 Tflops) Roughly equating out to 2.7 Tflops. Option 2: 4 core AMD Kaveri(CPU + AMD 7750) + Modifed AMD 7970M GPU(with 1.840 Tflops). Altogether that would equal about 2.659 Tflops XB3 Option 1: 16 core Power8 CPU + AMD Trinity's GPU(6670) + Modified AMD 6990M based GPU. Option 2: 4 core Power7+ CPU (with 4 threads per core having 16 threads. Rumors can be smeared you know.) + AMD Trinity's GPU + Modified AMD 6990 based GPU this equates to about 2.369 + say .200 Tflops for CPU although number is a tad bit smaller than PS4's with 2.569 Tflops which also matches the rumors. Now why do I say AMD Kaveri/AMD Trinity? Well many rumors point directly to their embedded GPUs being in the systems. So that is what I am thinking that. Another thing to note is the details of the GHZ editions of the new AMD 7870 and AMD 7970. I believe firmly that they have same specs as PS4/XB3's combined GPU's power. Not the same level with Tflops, but the same GP/GT/bandwidth or really close to it. Given that I will give you the GP/GT data. 7870 Ghz Edition has 32 GP/80 GT while 7970 Ghz Edition has 33.6 GP/134.4 GT. If you take the GP rate of PS3/X360(4.4) and multiply it by 7. You can see that both of them are at least 7 times more powerful than PS3/X360 GPUs. That is the GPU power alone. Throw in the CPU power and we can easily see claims of 8+ times the power of current gen. As they use math to show how powerful it is based solely on Tflops. Most CPUs have .1-.3 Tflops of power at most these days depending. Considering the 6670 and 7750 GP/GT rate thrown in there as well it gets a bigger bump up with PS4 having 40 GP/160 GT. While XB 3 has 38.4 GP/99.2 GT. Although its hard to say they will feature the same GP/GT as I have guessed here, but its likely a goal to reach that area or close to it. Making both systems easily capable of handling Unreal Engine 4 at 1080p. Epic stated that 2.5 Tflops would be necessary for 1080p to be at a steady framerate. Another thing to note is that Epic stated 1.5 Tflops would be necessary for 720p to have a steady framerate. ;p Which makes me wonder. What is the WiiU packing. To know this you have to look at the AMD 4000 series. As it has been claimed a million times that it is based on an AMD R700 series GPU. Some rumors swirl around 40 nm. There is only 1 GPU at that range. The 4770. Now look at today's lineup. What can match up to 4770. AMD 7870M is spot on duplicate with improved performance. 12.8 GP/32 GT and 1024 Gflops or 1.024 Tflops. This has got me thinking. WiiU Modified Power7 quad core CPU(even if its got 3 cores its likely based on a quad core CPU) + AMD Llano's GPU + modified AMD 7870M GPU which equals out to about 1.504 Tflops + CPU power so it could be around 1.6-1.7 Tflops in the WiiU. Making it capable of this gen and next gen game engine quality, but not quite at the same level as other platforms. In turn it means WiiU can handle next gen ports of games to 720p if true. This in turn could be what Nintendo meant by stating that their system might not be to far behind the others by supporting Unreal Engine 4. The Llano GPU + AMD 7870M GPU would put out about 17.6 GP/44 GT. GPU Comparison PS3/X360 - 230-240 Gflops with 4.4 GP PS4 - 2.6 Tflops with 40 GP XB3 -2.5 Tflops with 38.4 GP WiiU -1.6 Tflops with 17.6 GP Based on the bottom GP rate I added up. PS4 - 9.1 times the power of PS3/X360 GPU XB3 - 8.7 times the power of PS3/X360 GPU WiiU - 4 times the power of PS3/X360 GPU Take a note that the AMD 7970M was scaled back to 1.840 Tflops so the GP rate and Tflops likely dropped some as well so given that its more likely PS4 GP rate/Tflops are closer to what XB3's actually turns out to be. Possibly exact match or with a few grains above it. If this is all true this in turn means all three systems feature HSA and dual GPUs. Which is a great plus for all. What do yall think about my math? It seems like an almost perfect fit to every rumor. There is also plenty of evidence to support the theory that Microsoft might be going all NVIDIA and ALL ARM powered. Sure a few say Intel CPU, but they hate each other really. NVIDIA and Intel do not get along, but they did sign some type of agreement in 2011 to get along. I want everyone to go back and look at that projected plan/specs picture for Xbox 3. You know that image of all the CPU cores and stating with 2 Arm/x86 cores and 48ALU @ 500 Mhz and another chip on the side with 4 Arm/x86 cores and 64ALU @ 1 Ghz. That means Xbox 720 would feature 112 CUDA cores. Those likely two sets of chips with ALU next to them are Tegra 4 chips. This Image down the page I am refering too. Up to 64 CUDA/ALU cores in Tegra 4 So that would mean Xbox 720 has two Tegra 4 chips or maybe that was just the first idea. It is possible that Microsoft is aiming to have Project Denver in the Xbox 720. Which feature 8 cores and another 256 CUDA cores or possibly as a combo to the Two Tegra 4 chips or even the unthinkable dual everything as the plan for Xbox 720. They put a grip on NVIDIA so that noone would be able to buy the company for a long while. If anyone buys over 30% or tries to of its shares then its up to Microsoft if they would like to buy those shares first. Signed in 2011. Although honestly 368 CUDA cores is kinda weak and unknown thing to most users, but lets look at what it compares too. Unless well its working together with something else. Although if you compare it directly to graphics card processing cores. That compares to a slimed down Gefore GT 640 series card which does 600-730 Gflops with 384 CUDA cores. Unless that is paried with something else. Like say a High powered card from somewhere. Say maybe the GTX 680M which puts out about 1.935 Tflops + 730 Gflops = 2.665 Tflops. That and well it would equal to about 38.2 Gigapixels a second, and 111.2 GT a second. Those two numbers are counted in billions btw for those that don't know. Those extra GT will help the Xbox 3, but if my numbers are true we can see PS4 edge out as more powerful. This all depends on how scaleable the tech turns out to be. Also another thing to note is the Windows 8 ARM launch, how closely they are trying to tie Xbox Live into Windows 8. Which means that when you game on your Xbox 720 you will be using Windows 8 ARM edition. Which should be light enough for the console. Another thing to note is the Stock lockout from Microsoft. You know dual graphics rumors would fit. Multiple core rumors would fit. CUDA up to 16 cores for ION 2 platform. So CUDA that could have been mistranslated somewhere. The Tegra thing fits that picture spot on. Not gonna speculate on the rest. We all know they will have CPUs, RAM, HDDs, and a disc drive of some sort. In general I expect the following though. CPU - 8 or 16 core CPU. If not that many cores then at least that many individual threads. Likely all new consoles will be based on IBM's new PowerPC A2 CPU line coming. While the clocks are lower around 2 Ghz or less. More cores and threads are possible and its likely faster than current consoles even so. If not though the new Power PC spec also sports Power 7 architecture. Which supports 4, 6, 8 cores. A clock between 3.0 Ghz-4.25 Ghz. Up to 4 SMT threads per core. Which supports my previous notion of next gen chips supporting up to 32 threads. Power 7 almost matches up to what Cell 2.0 was aimed to be. RAM - 2-4 GBs Likely 2 GB will be set. I am thinking Xbox 3/PS4 have 2GB + and WiiU has 1 GB maybe. HDD - 250, 320, 500 GB Starting. I hope anyway. Files get bigger and bigger as time goes on. What is Power7+ ? Its the more refined smaller chip after the Power7. What more can it do? Most likely only benefits are potentially higher clock speed and possibly more embedded memory. Disc drives: Sony = Blu-Ray varient. Very likely a 12x disc drive. Microsoft = HVD. Plays Blu-Ray movies + its not helping Sony to have in the console as having Blu-Ray would be paying Sony to use their disc format. Rumors of Microsoft supporting Blu-Ray now. So HVD/Blu-Ray isn't out of the question though yet. Nintendo = Nintendo's Disc. Yes Nintendo makes their own almost every generation I believe. Blu-Ray support? What the Wii needs is better graphics and power. Sony and Microsoft are charging to fill the gap with the Motionsensor and Project Natal, and with their greater power and graphics, all the Wii will have left will be that it's a lot smaller. Whatever the Wii 2 is, if Nintendo intends to survive another generation before keeling over dead it needs to up the ante on graphics and processing power. |

I agree. Especially with Apple considering Apple TV to be a future console. Wii needs more power for graphics. The plus side though for the next generation there are 4 card makers and 4 platforms. Most card makers will have a solution on the market by 2010 so if 2011 date is true for Next NES console. Its possible we could see a card from ATI, NVIDIA, Intel, or Caustic Graphics in the next NES. Caustic has new Ray Tracing card based on a variant of Open GL and games on the Wii use Open GL API I believe so it wouldn't be to hard for them to make a jump to this. PS3 also uses a Open GL variant though. There are many other APIs in the works as well. Reason Wii got stuck with bad chip was it was only NVIDIA and ATI to deal with and since ATI made a chip for the Xbox 360 they didn't want to give the Wii a more powerful graphics chip. Now playing field is open with 4 separate graphics makers. It was only 2 though when PS3(NVIDIA based GPU), X360(ATI based GPU), Wii (ATI based lower end GPU) launched. So Wii got snubbed by AMD/ATI. I think chances are high that Wii 2 or whatever will have High end graphics. |
