Another one of my long guides from the rsof. l. Introduction Welcome to my Mega Farming Guide. I really love Farming and I think it’s very fun and interesting Skill, so I decided to write a guide about it. I’ve experienced several times, that people start to love Farming when they know how to train it efficiently, so I wrote this guide because I hope it’ll help you guys out there, and ultimately lead to that more people like and train Farming. I’ve personally already achieved 99 Farming, so let that be your guarantee to learn something from reading this guide. I’m always open for constructive criticisms or tips on how to improve my guide. Questions or other feedback is also much welcome. However, please only ask questions here on the forums and not in-game. ll. About the Mega Farming Guide I Pixil I wrote: "I never got the whole point of Farming, but now, since I've read your Guide, I'm thinking of training it - you're persuading me to do it, you describe Farming as a dream Skill added to RuneScape." As said before, I hope you’ll have a good knowledge about Farming, and that you feel like training it, after reading my guide. It’s actually a quite easy and fast Skill; you can get 1.2m exp per hour if you just go for the exp and don’t care about how much you spend, which leads me on to my next point: Farming is an expensive Skill, but you don’t spend much time Farming every day, so you’ll have plenty of time to make the money you need. I’ll also try to cover most aspects of Farming, ranging from the basics, the actual guide, requirements, the run and just general useful information. An important thing is who this guide is designed for. It’s a good idea to know quite a bit about Runescape and being a bit experienced with the game doesn’t hurt either. You’ll also want to be ready to be serious with your training, meaning that you’ll be training efficiently. If you don’t know what that means, you’ll get a good idea as we go along, but it has a lot to do with how much money you can make per hour, so that’s good to know exactly. However, all this shouldn’t scare away newcomers. lll. The Basics of Farming As promised, I’ll have a part about the basics of Farming. Keep in mind that these are the very basics, and can be seen as an introduction to Farming for the new farmers. People who know how to plant your crops, harvest etc. might want to consider skipping this part, but it’s totally optional. Please note, that this isn’t something I’ve written myself; it’s taken from the Game Manual on the website, as I found the articles to be pretty good, and better than if I should make a guide to the basics. It has been edited slightly though. Here goes: “All around the game world you will find special patches where you may plant seeds to grow crops. These are the Farming patches. When you have some seeds to grow, you can take them to a suitable Farming patch to plant them. After a while they will start to grow, and eventually you will have a patch of fully-grown crops ready to harvest. When you've harvested your crops, you'll be able to plant more seeds in the patch. Each Farming patch is designed for a specific type of crop: herb patches are the place for growing herbs, flower patches are for growing flowers (including the useful limpwurt plant); allotments are for growing vegetables and crops such as tomatos and strawberries.” “The simplest crops are grown by planting the seed directly into a suitable, empty Farming patch. You'll need to have a seed dibber to do this. For crops such as vegetables and hops, you'll need to plant three or four seeds to get the crop growing. Herbs, flowers and bushes may be grown from only one seed. For example, to plant marigold seeds, use one seed on an empty flower patch; to plant potato seeds, use 3 seeds on an empty allotment. Bigger plants, such as trees and fruit trees, cannot be planted directly as seeds. Instead you will need to plant them in a plant pot (you can buy these from the Farming store – remember to buy them filled). Once you've planted the seed in the plant pot, just sprinkle some water on it from a watering can. It'll grow into a sapling after a few minutes, just leave it in your inventory or bank while you wait. When the sapling's grown, use it on an empty tree patch or fruit tree patch to transplant the sapling into the patch. You'll need a spade to do this. If a Farming patch is left unused, it will start to grow weeds. Before you can grow anything in the patch, you'll need to use a rake on it to clear away the weeds. Simple crops grow in about half an hour, but big trees can take hours or days. They'll grow even if you're not logged in, so you don't have to spend all that time standing by the patch! Crops can sometimes become diseased while they're growing. When your crops become diseased, don't panic. For small plants, such as vegetables or herbs, you just need to pour a vial of plant cure over them, and they'll be restored to health immediately. Trees may be cured by pruning them with secateurs. Both plant cure and secateurs may be bought at the Farming shops. If you don't cure your diseased plants, they'll eventually die. If you're unlucky enough to find some of your plants dead, just get a spade and dig up the patch. “ Once the correct amount of time has passed, hopefully your crops have survived and you will need to harvest them. To do this, head to the patch with a spade. If the crops have survived, there will be an option to click called 'harvest' or ‘pick’ for other crops - clicking this will dig them up, and they will appear in your inventory. If your crops have died, then you will have to use your spade to 'dig up' the dead items and then replant them if you have the necessary items or seeds with you. For fruit trees, you must pick all items, then cut down the tree before being able to dig up the stump. After digging up the tree, you will get the roots from that tree.” That’s it. If you should have more questions, feel free to ask them, so that I can answer them and add them to this part as well. lV. Requirements There aren’t necessarily a lot of requirements to begin Farming, but a lot if you want to be perfect. I hope you already have some of these requirements, or else you probably don’* fit in into the group of players I’ve written this guide for. All the requirements will help you greatly, and to be able to perfect your Farming, you need all. In the rest of my guide, I’ll assume that you have all the requirements I’ve listed, but I’ll also give some alternatives along the way. If you have any requirements you think I should add, please feel free to post saying so. A. Skills, Quests, Diaries and Others 66 Hunter (For Spottier cape) 61 Magic (For Trollheim teleport) Tree Gnome Village* The Grand Tree* Mourning’s End part l* An Enlightened Journey Throne of Miscellania* Royal Trouble* Ghosts Ahoy* Legend’s Quest* A Fairytale Part l: Growing Pains* Barbarian Assault (Penance gloves) Ballooning system - having the Gnome Stronghold and Taverly routes unlocked Karamja Achievement Diary* Draynor/Lumbridge Achievement Diary* Falador Achievement Diary (up to 2)* * These Quests/Diaries either requires Quests or Skills that involve combat, to be completed, or the reward concerns combat experience. B. Items in Your Bank In this post I’ll give you a list of the things I suggest you buy and stash in your bank, as you’ll use the most of these. This is mostly for the people who are going to be serious about their farming, and are going for a high level. This list is also assuming you have all the requirements I have suggested. Once you have all these items (don’t buy them until you’ve finished reading the whole guide) you should gather them all in only one tab, and organize them the way you like them (you wear some of them). If you do so, you will save loads of time. Please note, that these things are all just guidelines, and I don’t say they’re the best; if your method works better for you, use it. Item List (tradeable items) Spottier cape Spade Air battlestaff Magic logs Law runes Earth runes Water runes Fire runes Rake (store at your Tool Leprechaun) Seed dibber Axe Skills necklace Combat bracelet Poision Ivy seeds Cash Super energy potions (maybe not needed) Ring of dueling Untradeable items Boots of lightness Amulet of Nature Explorer’s Ring 3 Karamja Gloves 3 Falador Shield 2 Ectophial Penance Gloves Teleport crystals (they have to be charged, lol) Indefinable items - will all be determined later Fruit tree saplings Wood tree saplings Calquat saplings (possibly; if 72+ Farming) Farmer payments V. The Guide “Ah, finally..” I’m sure many of you would say that, as we’ve now reached the actual guide to how I suggest you train your Farming. However, I can’t stress enough how important the preparations are; they’re needed if you want to train your Farming for real. Another preparation, and probably the most important, is choosing which things you’ll want to plant and grow. Before you’re going to choose, you might want to look at the ‘Common Misconceptions’ under each section, so that you won’t choose the wrong plant. I’ll try to go as much in-depth as possible, to give you the best idea of which plants you should choose. I’ll give you a guideline to which plants an average farmer could plant, all the way to level 99. I’ll split the guide up, into several sections and I’ll discuss the best plants for every stage, as well as providing a few tips and some common misconceptions. If you don’t want to read all this, you could go down to the Conclusion a few posts below, where I’ll give you an average farmers way to 99, but I really suggest you read all this, as there are a lot of important tips in this part. The First Levels (1-27) These first nice and easy levels are just to be gained as fast as possible, as there isn’t much you can do at these levels. To prevent getting bored, I suggest you use some alternative methods to achieve your first Farming levels. I suggest you do some Quests that give Farming experience, but if you’ve already done them, you can use the mini-game Vinesweeper. These are the Quests that give Farming experience: Number of experience - name of Quest 500 - Perils of Ice Mountain 1,000 - Recipe for Disaster 2,000 - Spirit of Summer 3,000 - Enlightened Journey 3,500 - A Fairy Tale Part I 4,000 - Grim Tales 5,000 - Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf 5,000 - Garden of Tranquility 5,000 - My Arm's Big Adventure 7,000 - Rum Deal 24,000 - Back to my Roots Total: 60,000 You could do all or just the ones you’re able to and finish off with Vinesweeper. When you’ve 27 Farming, you can move onto the next steps. Please note, that you may not be able to start and finish them all, but you’ll find out. ~ Common misconceptions ~ 1. Don’t farm Allotment. They aren’t worth at any levels, as there are better alternatives all the way through this Skill. 2. Vinesweeper is only good at these low levels, and should never be done as a serious source of experience, when you’ve reached 27 Farming. 3. Don’t bother with any plants at all at these levels; Quests or Vinesweeper is much faster. The Second Step (28-72) Right. These next levels are the easiest part, and if you do it right, you’ll fly right through them. The reason for that are trees. At level 27 you’re able to grow both fruit trees and wood trees. From now on, the experience will come in very easily, not spending much time at all. At these levels, you’ll also be introduced to a lot of new trees, all the times. This is what the best way to go: 27-30: Apple trees and Oak trees 31-33: Apple trees and Willow trees 34-39: Banana trees and Willow trees 40-42: Orange trees and Willow trees 43-45: Curry trees and Willow trees 46-51: Curry trees and Maple trees 52-57: Pineapple trees and Maple trees 58-60: Papaya trees and Maple trees 61-68: Papaya and Yew trees 69-72: Palm and Yew trees That’s a lot of changing between seeds, and can be hard to find out, but the above, is the best way to go. If you aren’t very rich, or you’re quite patient, you might want to stop at Maple and Pineapple, but the average farmer would go Maple and Papaya (as well as Herbs). Personally, that was the way I did it. Another thing you want to be planting, is Herbs. They give decent experience when you grow higher leveled Herbs and also rack in a lot of the money you spend on Farming. You might even be able to get some free Herblore experience (more later). At these levels, this is the best way and only suggested way to go: 27-32: Harralander 33-38: Ranarr 39-62: Toadflax 63-72: Snapdragon These are all the most profitable Herbs while still being decent experience. Another thing you should always be growing while you’re on your Herb runs is: 27-72: Marigold flowers They rack in a few extra cash. Limpwurts should not be considered as they’re less profitable and you won’t be farming the Herbs for the potions anyway (right?!). Please note, that it's not suggested you water any kind of Flowers, as the Seeds are so cheap. Don’t bother with bushes or other plants yet. ~ Common misconceptions ~ In addition to the ones in the first part: 1. Don’t do the cheapest trees all the way; remember, that the more expensive seeds also give more experience, and take less time; you can spend that time on making money. The Third Step (73-79) Now that you can farm all the trees you’ll probably be planting, we just need the last Herb, and that’s what the aim is for: Dwarf Weed at level 79; but more about that later. At level 72, you’ll be introduced to a new, fantastic tree: The Calquat Tree. It racks in 12.5k experience per tree and is VERY cheap for that amount of experience. Most of the time, It’ll take more than 24 hours to grow, which is the only “downside” to this tree. There is no reason for not planting this tree. Another new and great crop is introduced to you at level 70 Farming, and is called the Poision Ivy bush. These can rack in some cheap and fast experience and are a great help, especially when planting trees that don’t give too much experience. These could be considered optional, but are recommended. Herbs are still the same: Snapdragons. We also want to determine which trees you should be growing the rest of your way to 99. One thing you should always grow is a Calquat tree. These are, in my opinion, the best trees in the whole game, because of their high amount of experience, while being very cheap. But you’ll also want to be growing other trees: Fruit trees and wood trees. These are going to be your main source of experience, so you’ll want to choose these wisely. If we start out with fruit trees, there are 2-3 you could plant from now on. From best to worst: Palm Papaya Pineapple You should only be farming Pineapples if you don’t have too much cash, you’re quite patient or you’re still not going to train efficiently. I did Papayas the most of the way, and switched to Palm at the last levels, mostly because the prices where changing, and that Jagex didn’t notice that they actually were the cheapest when you look at how much experience you get per gp. This doesn’t apply anymore, and Palms are now significantly more expensive compared to other trees. If you want me to suggest a plant for you, I’d say Papaya. These are really fine experience without being too expensive either. You could go for Palm for the last levels, but only if you have the money. Moving on to the wood trees, we only have 2 possible trees, in my opinion, at least. These are Maple and Yew. Magic are simply too expensive if you ask me, but do them if you really want to. I did Maples and that is also what I’d suggest to you if you wanted me to. Yews are expensive and you might see your money fade away earlier or faster than you had expected. Keep in mind that you should try to plant 10 wood trees a day, as they need less time compared to other trees, before they’re grown. This won’t take your money away, only save time (so why not do it?). Spirit trees become available at level 83, and give nearly 20k experience per tree. However, they do take 2-3 days to grow and the Seeds are only obtainable from Bird’s nests. Farm them if you have them. These will also aid you in your Farming run, as a good alternative (more later). So, if I should give you a good average way to go through these levels, here it is: Maple trees (10 a day) Papaya trees (5 a day) Calquat trees (1 a day) Poison Ivy bushes (12 a day) Snapdragon herbs (15 a day) All this should be able to rack in about 100-120k experience a day, spending less than 30 mins. There isn’t really any common misconceptions to add, if you’ve read the ones above. The Last Stretch (80-99) Congratulations. If you’ve made it this far, you can call yourself an experienced farmer. At level 79 you’ll be introduced to a new, fantastic crop: Dwarf Weed Herbs. These should now rack in about 6-9k experience per run, which is amazing as they’re so cheap, and they even turn a very nice profit. When we look at it, 2 Dwarf Weed runs are equal to 1 Maple tree run, and that means a lot of cash you’ve saved without any loss of experience. You could possibly keep farming Snapdragons if you really need the cash, but don’t keep farming them for Herblore experience. Torstols are slightly better experience, but shouldn't be considered as Dwarf Weeds are much better money. Of course, farm Marigold flowers and all the other things that I've discussed in the above part as well. Dwarf Weed is the only new thing I’m going to discuss in this part, as there isn’t much more to add. Vl. Conclusion I believe many questions will be about this: “What should I plant?” Therefore, I’ll do my best to answer your question here. Please note, that this isn’t the best and fastest way to go, but an average. This way you won’t have to change plants all the time in the middle levels either, and it’ll make it easier to cope with. 1-30: Quests/Vinesweeper 30-40: Apple trees and Willow trees (41-45: Curry trees and Willow trees) (46-51: Curry trees and Maple trees) 52-72: Pineapple trees and Maple trees 73-99: Papaya trees, Maple trees and Calquat trees As for Herbs: 27-32: Harralander 33-38: Ranarr 39-62: Toadflax 63-79: Snapdragon 80-99: Dwarf Weed Flowers: 27-99: Marigolds Bushes: 70-99: Poison Ivy The ones in brackets can be skipped, but are suggested. Cost and time data If you follow this guideline, the average farmer would probably reach 99 Farming in about 4½-5 months and it'll cost about 50m. The actual time spent farming is about 70 hours all the way to 99, not including making the money. This was calculated using the prices as of the 7th of May 2009 (seed prices tend to raise a lot and then fall again over time; this was calculated when prices were in the middle), and will presume that this is your daily farming routine: 2x Wood tree runs (10 Maples) 1x Fruit tree run (5 Papayas) 1x Calquat tree run (1 Calquat) 3x Bush runs (12 Poison ivy) 3x Herb runs (15 Dwarf weed) You'll get about 105-110k experience per day from 72+. One day of Farming will cost you about 400-700k dependent on the current prices. Farming vs. Herblore Farming and Herblore are two Skills that are linked together. It’s a good idea to train your Herblore while training your Farming, as you save a lot of money by using this method, and it’s also quite easy. Just farm your Herbs and buy the rest of the supplies needed to make the potions. This should not choose which Herbs you’re going to farm; your focus should be on Farming. By training Herblore all the way you can advance to a very high level. Maybe 80-90. Toadflax, Ranarrs or Snapdragons? They’re all very good Herbs, as they’re very profitable, can be used for Herblore and give decent experience. Snapdragon are the least profitable, but rack in more experience, and that’s why you should do these over Ranarrs and Toadflax. Toadflax are probably the best Herb to farm after reaching 99, as they’re more profitable than Ranarrs, but only slightly, and the prices are subject to change. Mattonline has some nice calculations on page 8 that shows some of this. Vinesweeper I've stated that Vinesweeper shouldn't be considered at higher levels. After taking a look at some good feedback I've concluded, that it could be a possible way to raise your Farming, but then you shouldn't be following the rest of my guide, as it's not a very efficient way to train your Farming. It is said to give about 25-30k experience per hour. Vll. The Farming Runs Now that I’ve concluded my actual guide, we’re ready to move on. It’s now time for the almost just as important part of the guide, where I’ll go in-depth with the Farming run strategies. This part of my guide will be split up into several parts and they’ll all contain some preparations (including item list, your bank, inventory and worn items), the run strategy in-depth and some alternatives. Estimated running time: Tree run: 8-10 minutes Herb run: 3-4 minutes Bush run: 3-5 minutes There are many different ways to do this, but I believe mine is one of the best (yeah, I’m very modest). However, if you think yours is better, feel free to post it and tell me why. Anyways, let’s move on. A. The Tree Run 1. Preparations As said before, one of the most essential things in Farming, is planning. We’ll now be planning your Tree run, so that you can make it as easy, short and effective as possible. If you follow my tree run, I guarantee you can get it down to take around 8-10 minutes, making it very fast experience when you think of the actual time you’ve spent farming. I’ll start out by posting which items I suggest you have in your bank. As in the ‘Requirements’ section, I suggest you have a separate tab in your bank for Farming items only, as that is one of the most important factors when it comes to how fast and effective you can make your run. Spottier cape Amulet of Nature Spade Air battlestaff Magic logs Supercompost (store at the Tool Leprechaun) Law runes Earth runes Water runes Fire runes Rake (store at your Tool Leprechaun) Seed dibber Axe Cash Super energy potions (if needed) Ring of dueling Boots of lightness Explorer’s Ring 3 Karamja Gloves 3 Penance Gloves Teleport crystals Fruit tree saplings Wood tree saplings Calquat saplings I’ll now move on to the inventory and give you a guideline for it. This is the best inventory if you want to follow my guide: 1 Spade 1 Axe 1010 GP 1 Teleport crystal 4 Law runes (3 if using Home teleport) 1 Fire rune 1 Water rune 1 Earth rune (take out if using Home teleport) 1 Magic log 5 Fruit tree saplings 5 Wood tree saplings 1 Calquat sapling 1 Spot of farmer payment for fruit trees (noted) 1 Spot of farmer payment for wood trees (noted) 1 Spot of farmer payment for Calquat trees (noted) Now that we have that settled, let’s move on to how your worn items should look like. Keep in mind, that you should try to keep your worn items as light as possible, so that you can run longer without using anything to restore your run energy, meaning that you’ll save some easy money. Spottier cape Penance gloves Boots of lightness Air battlestaff Ring of dueling Amulet of glory Never wear anything heavy. 2. The Run This run is for Wood, Calquat and Fruit trees. I'll have parts for the other runs later on. Now that you’re ready for the actual run, you should start out in any bank. Start off by teleporting to Tirannwn with your Teleport Crystal and run to the Fruit tree patch a bit east of where you are. *Check health, harvest, chop down and dig up the stump. Then quickly pour some Supercompost over the patch (to shorten grow time) and plant a new sapling before Weed grows. If it does, just go get your Rake from the Tool Leprechaun and rake the patch. After planting your tree, go and pay the farmer and use your harvest on the Tool Leprechaun and you'll get it back in noted form.* The text between the *'s is general for every time you reach a patch, and I won't be writing it every time. When you've finished, teleport to Varrock and run north into the castle and a bit east to reach the Wood tree patch where you're going to do almost the same things as above, except from that you're going to pay the farmer for chopping down the tree, and digging up the roots (right click and select 'pay-farmer'). After that, teleport to Falador and run to the park a bit east, where you'll find another Wood tree patch. Do what you have to do and teleport to Lumbridge. Run west to the other side of the castle and run through the two doors to come out near a Wood tree patch. Plant a new sapling there. Now teleport to the gem mine in Shilo Village with your Karamja Gloves and run north to the cart. Pay him to take you to a Fruit tree patch, where you'll be plating a new tree. Now run south along the shore and down to the Calquat tree patch just north of the Tai Bwo Wannai village, and again plant a new tree. If you don't have a pair of Karamja Gloves, you could use a Nature tab from the mini-game 'The Great Orb Project', to teleport to the Nature alter and run to the Calquat patch and further up to the Fruit tree patch. After replanting your Calquat patch, teleport to Camelot and run south to Catherby and bank the things you don't need. Run east to the Fruit tree patch and plant a new tree. Now teleport to Castle Wars, where you have a chance to bank. If not, run to the balloon and chop down a regular log. Use it to pay for a travel to Taverly where you'll find a Wood tree patch wating for you. When you're done there, you again travel with the ballooning system. This time to the Gnome Stronghold, where you'll find a Fruit tree patch just south, and a Wood tree patch a bit south-west near the bank. After planting the trees and possibly banking, it's time to travel with the Spirit Tree to the Tree Gnome Village. Run west and go through the fence where you'll find Elkoy. Let him escort you through the maze and run a bit south to find the last patch. It's for Fruit trees. Now you're done with your run. Tips'n'Tricks: - Always use Supercompost: It shortens the grow time. - Always pay farmers to look after your crops. - Use your harvest on the Tool Leprechaun and get them back in noted form; saves space. - Drink Super Energy Potions and replenish run energy from Explorer’s Ring when needed. - Use the new notepad to write down the time where the crops presumably will be fully grown. B. The Herb Run 1. Preparations As with the Tree run, I start out by posting the items I suggest you have in your bank: Supercompost (store these at your Tool leprechaun) Ectophial Law runes Fire runes Air runes/Air staff Herb seeds Marigold seeds Skills necklaces Explorer’s ring 3 Spade Seed dibber Spotted/spottier cape Boots of lightness Penance gloves Super Energy potions (if needed) Rings of dueling Amulet of glory (charged, of course) Falador Shield 3 Your inventory should look like this: 1 Ectophial 3 Law runes 2 Fire runes 5 Air runes (if you don’t use an Air staff, which is suggested) 5 Herb seeds (they stack) 4 Marigold seeds (they stack) 1 Skills necklace (1-4) 1 Explorer’s ring 3 1 Spade 1 Seed dibber 2-3 Super energy potions (if you need them; you’ll find out) This is how you want your worn items to look: Spotted/spottier cape Boots of lightness Penance gloves Air staff Rings of dueling Amulet of glory Falador Shield 3 (gives extra experience) 2. The Run Start off by teleporting to Camelot and run straight east to the Farming patches. *Get out 2 Supercomposts from your Tool Leprechaun and start harvesting the Herb patch. Once finished, treat the patch with Supercompost and plant a new Seed. If Weed grows, get your Rake and rake it away. Now do the same with your Flower patch. As the last thing, exchange your harvest for a note at the Tool Leprechaun.* The text in the *'s is again a general thing for every patch. Now teleport to the Fishing Guild with your Skills necklace and run east to the patches, and do what you have to do. You could also run from Catherby, but using a Skills necklace is highly suggested. Now teleport with your Ectophial and run west to the patch there, to harvest and replant. When finished, teleport to the Cabbage patch with your Explorer's Ring and run just north to find another groups of patches. Do what you have to do and teleport to Trollheim. If you don't have a Explorer's Ring, you could use a Glory to Draynor Village and run from there. When standing at Trollheim, make your way down the hill on the west side and follow the path through the troll camp and run inside the Stronghold. Run south and go through the door, before running north and up the ladder, where you're able to see the last patch. Bank at Castle Wars, after harvesting and replanting. If you're already 99 Farming and only farm herbs for the money, make sure you don't include the last patch in your run. It's more efficient to not do it. Tips'nTricks - Always use Supercompost! - Use your harvest on the Tool Leprechaun and get them back in noted form; saves space. - Drink Super Energy Potions or use your Explorer's Ring when needed. C. The Bush Run 1. Preparations These are the items I suggest you have in your bank: Supercompost (store these at your Tool leprechaun) Law runes Water runes Air staff Fire runes Poison Ivy Seeds Skills necklaces Combat bracelet (charged) Skills necklace (charged) Spade Seed dibber Spotted/spottier cape Super Energy Potions (again, if needed) Boots of lightness Penance gloves Rings of dueling Amulet of glory (charged) Your inventory should look like this: 3 Law runes 2 Fire runes Seeds 1 Skills necklace 1 Combat bracelet 1 Spade 1 Seed dibber 2-3 Super Energy Potions (if needed; you’ll see) This is how you want your worn items to look: Spotted/spottier cape Boots of lightness Penance gloves Air staff Rings of dueling Amulet of glory 2. The Run Start off by teleporting to Varrock and running north to the Spirit Tree near the Grand Exchange and teleport to Etceteria. If you don't have your tree there, then use the Fairy Ring near Edgeville and use the code 'CIP'. *When you've reached the patch, check health, harvest and dig up, before treating with Supercompost and planting a new bush. Finish off by exchanging your harvest for a note at the Leprechaun* As above, the text in the *'s is general for every patch. Now teleport to Ardougne and run south to the patch. Do whatever is needed. Now use the Skills necklace to the Crafting Guild and run south to the Bush patch there. As the last thing, use the Combat bracelet to the Champion's Guild and harvest + replant the patch there. Then you're done. Poison Ivy bushes don't die. Tips'n'Tricks - Always use Supercompost: It shortens the grow time. - Use your harvest on the Tool Leprechaun and get them back in noted form; saves space. - Drink Super Energy Potions o ruse Explorer’s Ring when needed. Amulet of Nature The Amulet of Nature is used to help you keep track of one of your farming patches. But do note that you can only have one amulet of nature at a time. You can bind the amulet to any patch simply by using it on the patch itself. You can manually check the status of your crop in this patch by rubbing the amulet. It's untradeable and must be finished by you. A good patch to bind it to is the Calquat patch as it takes the longest. Average Herb Amount The amount of Herbs you harvest per plant varies, but when you count in the dead plants, I'd say you'd get about 6-7 Herbs from each plant. I find it to be varying between which plant it is but always at least 6. You get 7-8 with some Herbs; that's also why Toadflax can be more profitable then Ranarrs. Supercompost There's no plant you shouldn't be using Supercompost for, as they shorten grow time and the crop won't die as easily. Farmer payments You shoud always be paying the nearby farmers to look after your crops. Even when the payments are expensive, as they don't cost nearly as much as the Seeds do. Obtaining Seeds There are several ways to obtain Seeds. This is best to worst: - Buying them - Using your Kingdom - Using Vinesweeper - Killing Monsters Buying is by far the best way and the others should only be considered by DIY'ers (Do It Yourself) and newcomers. Magic Secatuers Magic secateurs boost your Herb yield with 10%, which is a very nice bonus and is essintial for your Farming runs. It's obtained from the Quest A Fairytale Part l: Growing Pains. Vlll. Frequently Asked Questions By now, I believe you have might have a few extra questions, which almost everyone would like to know. I’ve chosen to put them here. Feel free to ask more; I’ll add them to this post if I like them. Questions: How many times a day should I farm? Answer: As often as possible; when the crops are grown. Question: How should I obtain my farmer payment items? Answer: The best option is to buy them, but a Fruit Bat (Summoning), could also provide you with a few items, when using its scroll (Credit goes to Jomo64). Question: Do I have to be logged in for the crops to grow? Answer: No, you don’t. The crops will grow when you’re logged out. They might as well get diseased. Question: My plants have grown longer than normal. What’s happening? Answer: There is an average grow-time of all plants, but most of the time it’ll take a bit more, and sometimes a lot more. Question: How much does 99 Farming cost? Answer: Please see page 2, post 9. Question: How long will 99 Farming take? Answer: Please see page 2, post 9. lX. Money-Making Guide Yeah, a money making guide in a Farming guide. This isn’t a traditional one, as it’ll be focusing on getting into a daily rhythm, making the money add up without you noticing it, but it’s really quick. I’d say you can rack in about 300k at least, and probably 400-500k with ease. With a high Runecrafting level, it becomes obsolete, and then again not, because you won’t get bored by this. This is a good way to make some of the money back from Farming. Please note that this isn’t any very detailed guide; just a brief explanation. There are a lot of requirements to each thing, and I couldn’t bother to list it, so I guess some of them are for advanced and experienced people, who might even know many of the things on beforehand. Tip 1: Buy 64 Battlestaves from Zaff in Varrock and sell on the Grand Exchange – Makes roughly 90k/day. Tip 2: Collect 120 Flax from Flax in Camelot – Makes roughly 10k/day Tip 3: Farm Herbs 3+ times a day (Ranarrs) – Makes roughly 250k+/day Tip 4: Mine a Shooting Star – 100k/day Tip 5: Check your kingdom once a week (favor every day) – 700k/week Tip 6: Buy 80 Seaweed and 40 Pineapples from Arhein in Catherby - 15k/day Tip 7: Collect Sand from Bert in Yanille - 5-10k/day I could list more, but these should take about 1 hour to do, and racks in 500k when you do 3 Herb runs and adds up with 80k every time you do one more. It’s great to do these things every day. You can learn more about all these things on the Forums or the Game Manual on the website. X. Calculating Your Farming In this section I’ll teach you about how you can calculate how many experience or Seeds you need for a certain level or experience amount. I’ll introduce you to a formula of mine, to make it easier to calculate. As said before, planning is an essential part of Farming. Home > Game Guide > Skills > Farming (Members Only) > Farming - Seeds Using that page from the Game Manual, we’ll be able to determine the exact amount of Seeds you need. It’s split up into several steps. Let’s get started! Step 1: We’ll need to start out by finding out how much experience you need to achieve the desired level or amount of experience. To do this, you need this formula: Desired experience - Current experience = Experience needed Desired experience is found under the ‘Experience Table’. Let’s say you want level 80. To reach level you need 1,986,068 experience points. You’re currently at level 72 where you have 899,257 experience points. This is how it would look if we put it in this formula: 1,986,068 - 899,257 = 1,086,811 So you need 1,086,811 experience to reach your goal. Now we’re ready to move on. Step 2: Now we’re about to determine how many Seeds you need to reach your goal. First we must take a look at the Game Manual (directions above) to determine how much experience a tree gives. That is done in this way: ((Harvesting experience*6) + Planting experience + Check-health experience)*Amount of trees grown per day = experience per tree The “Amount of trees grown per day” is either 10 for Wood trees, 5 for Fruit trees or 1 for Calquat trees. This is for 10 Maple trees: ((0*6) + 45 + 3,403.4)*10 = 34,484 Now do that with both Wood trees, Fruit trees and Calquat trees and add them together. Step 3: Now that you have how much experience you’ll get per day from all of your trees, we’re ready for the last formula: Experience needed/Experience gained per day = days needed Let’s say you’d want 1,000,000 experience and you gain 100,000 per day: 1,000,000/100,000 = 10 It would take 10 days for me to get 1,000,000 experience points. Now you know that you’ll need: 100 Wood trees, 50 Fruit trees and 10 Calquat trees to reach your goal. You can then multiply the amount of Seeds you need with the prices from the Grand Exchange Database to find out how much money you need to reach your goal. It works the same way for Herbs. The rest of the guide will just be additional information. It’s there to help you, and you can take a look at it when you need it. Xl. Additional Information These next posts will contain informative things to help you while doing Farming, and when you’re using the calculations above. Before we move onto the information, I have a few good pages on the Game Manual, which I’d like to tell you about: 1. Home > Game Guide > Skills > Farming (Members Only) > Farming - Patches This page is where you can find all the locations to the Farming patches all over Runescape. 2. Home > Game Guide > Skills > Farming (Members Only) > Farming - Seeds This page contains lots of information about Seeds and is used in the calculations above. 3. Home > Grand Exchange This is where you want to find all the prices to the things you need, such as Seed prices etc. A. Average Grow Time and Farmer Payments This is the average grow time for the most relevant trees and Herbs to this guide. Please remember that this varies much of the time, and can take much longer. There has also been included which payments you need for the farmers. Fruit trees Apple trees - 876 mins - 9 Raw sweetcorns Banana trees - 876 mins - 4 Baskets of apples Orange trees - 876 mins - 3 Baskets of strawberries Curry trees - 876 mins - 5 Baskets of bananas Pineapple trees - 876 mins - 10 Watermelons Papaya trees - 876 mins - 10 Pineapples Palm trees - 876 mins - 15 Papaya fruits Wood trees Oak Trees - 140 mins - 1 Basket of tomatoes Willow Trees - 220 mins - 1 Basket of apples Maple Trees - 300 mins - 1 Basket of oranges Yew Trees - 380 mins - 10 Cactus spines Magic Trees - 460 mins - 25 Coconuts Herbs All Herbs average around 75 mins Specials Calquat Tree - 1200 mins - 8 Poison ivy berries Spirit Tree - 3680 mins - 5 Money nuts + 1 Monkey bar + 1 Ground suqah tooth Bushes Poison Ivy - 75 mins To get it into hours, just use this formula: X/60 X = mins B. Closing That concludes my guide. I hope you’ve all learned something about Farming, and that you’re now motivated to start training Farming some more and not considering it a pain. I’ve done my best, and I’m quite happy with the result of this guide myself. But what do you think? I’m always open for constructive criticisms or tips on how to improve my guide. Questions or other feedback is also much welcome. However, please only ask questions here on the forums and not in-game. Thanks for reading, and happy farming! = Black = |

Most of these facts can be found on Runescape help sites such as tip.it, zybez and runehq. I disagree with your herb route, because if done right, you won't even need to bank. It's cool that you attempted to make a guide, though. And I noticed you copied my signature picture as well. But, they say imitation is most sincere form of flattery. So copy away. =] Edited by Deadsyy, Aug 17 2009, 04:11 PM.

Haha, sad much Dead? Take a look on the thread on the thread on rsof and see a little thing called success. Something you'll never achieve with that attitude, behaviour and always wanting to be the "rebel".Lolz @ your post - all I can say. And as for the signature, who would want a farmer on/near a graveyard? The only thing that is alike is the cape, which is odd, because we both have it. Copying in-game too, much? Oh, and I thought you had stopped here in RF? Or was it just a threat and now you miss me? |

First of all, I've had 99 Farming way before you so if anyone was copied, it was me. Second of all the background on my signature is the wilderness, just like Cade's we both like the wilderness, I was mostly commenting on the similar background color and cape. And as far as success goes, I've achieved a lot because I know how to take constructive criticism unlike you. Btw, no one missed you. My argument was with Greg and we've put aside our differences. Oh, and, the only thing i said about your guide was that the herb route could've been better without the need to bank and i've seen most of these fact on real runescape help sites, k? I think it's funny that you're wound up about this since you said, and I quote: "I’m always open for constructive criticisms or tips on how to improve my guide. Questions or other feedback is also much welcome. However, please only ask questions here on the forums and not in-game. " I think you lied. So calm down. High-strung much? First of all, how can you know you had 99 Farming before you? It's not really like our signatures look a lot like each other. It also seems like I joined 4 days before you. "..I know how to take constructive criticism unlike you." Maybe you should learn what it is at first, because what you posted about my guide was just flaming. How could it possibly help me make my guide better? You just told me some parts of it were bad. If you wanted it to be constructive, tell me how I could improve it. Actually, please do so; I'd like to see how it could be significantly better. Oh, and yeah, I'm high-strung towards people like you; I've heard from other people that you have to. |

I've never flamed anyone. What I gave WAS indeed constructive criticism and bottom line is, if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. I told you already what was wrong with your guide and you took it to heart. Not my fault you're sentimental. And by the way, you must be blind to see our signature pictures are not eerily similar. Well if I say something about your guide that sounds negative, how about you *not* do it? Didn't know I had to spell everything out. Btw, you didn't have this signature for the whole time you've been on Zetaboards... Edited by Deadsyy, Aug 19 2009, 04:46 PM.

Of course I know it's something I shouldn't do, but it's still not constructive as I don't know how I can make it better, so it doesn't help? And how would you find out about the signature? |
