It's one thing to vent. It's something else to rant. Feel free to vent about whatever, but mind the manners. People come to Reality's Exile as refugees from the woes of the world. Bear that in mind if you think your decompression might have an effect on others. That's what the PM system is for.

By CEMP: Also, try to keep your opinions about other members vents to yourself. Again, the PM system is there for that. With that said, nothing is wrong about giving one's empathy and condolences.

By Transcon: Addendum to above, When responding to vents, please do not allow personal world views to affect your response. There are times that it may be inappropriate and seem insulting to the effected party. The subject in question may be a real life issue affecting real people and their families.

Frustrated that I have to be responsible and hold off buying Torchlight 2. Been frustrated that I can't be creative. Absolutely frustrated on what to do with/in Eclipse. Thanks, Back.

In case people hadn't known, I've been off work for medical reasons involving my L5/S1 - herniated disk. Been off work since August, and since it was determined by an IME that it's not work related, I'm not pulling Work Comp insurance. This means there's no income. Can we say "miffed"? No? Good, because there's a few better words for that.

My neck is hurting a lot. It's been like this for the past couple hours, but I wasn't doing much movement prior to the onset of the discomfort. Any movement makes my head throb. I'd heard that whiplash can take a little while before you actually start feeling anything, but I don't know if two weeks is too long or not.

Ever since the accident, though, just about anything has been likely to piss me off, too. I don't know if it's whiplash, PTSD (I did almost get a few people killed), or just because I quit smoking pot before the accident.

At any rate, I'm going to need to see a doctor.

Ok, Trump, I might be Canadian, but really....your really over stepping your bounds here some of your immigrant policies here. Seriously.

I'm starting to worry about my dad and my aunts leaving the country for vacations now. They fly to the Phillipines to spend some time in the place they grew up in before returning. I'm afraid they might get restrained and held in airports like several people are now today. This is surreal. Hell, what's going to happen to ME if I leave the country for a vacation and come back. Will I be held against my will like the people today? I'm not a Muslim, but I feel for those who are suffering right now.

Also, shame on those who burned down a mosque in Texas. We are practically simulating Nazi Germany now. Remember the synagogues being burned to the ground? I do. It was bashed into my head during Junior High and High School. We can't just allow this. We just can't.

I know what you mean, CEMP... He's already made a mess with relations in the East, especially between China and Taiwan. Makes my Mom worry about my relatives there. At least they have a backup plan to jump ship and probably stay in the States for a bit if China decides to do something because of our 'president'...

And I feel for you too, KH. I get worried when my parents go out of town, even if they have Green Cards. All I know is that Mom and Dad won't go out of country unless one of us is with them, which makes it inconvenient since I work, as does Lupina, and Puma's, well... Puma's being Puma... XD At least with one of us, we don't worry as much, but even with legal documents, it's still a pain in the butt to deal with, especially when coming in through LAX and you run into that ONE OFFICIAL who thinks he's all that just because he has a badge...

Ooooooooh...

I'd love to give him a piece of my mind if I run into him a third time... >.<

Though, in general, I wish Trump didn't stick his nose where it shouldn't be stuck. Wonder if he's trying to use his political power to worm his way into other countries just so he could stick an orange thumb into it and pull out a profit plum...

(Kudos to whoever can name that reference just for luls! :D)

Was it Georgie that sat in the corner, eating the pie? I forget...

Edit: Not sure who it was, but I know it was a nursery rhyme. Ended with "What a good boy am I!". But I always thought he had stolen the pie.

About that executive order...

It isn't as bad as we've been hearing. I'm not trolling anyone on this, but as I've said before, if you're a citizen, you're fine. You'll still have to deal with the [sarcasm]charming[/sarcasm] folks in Customs and their unpleasant attitudes.

However, I do think things aren't going to be all sunshine and daisies with Eastern Asia. Not likely to be a war over it, though. Apparently, these "free trade" agreements only protect foreign commerce from facing import taxes when they bring anything into the U.S., yet the same courtesy isn't always extended to American goods going into foreign countries. Apparently, shipping goods to other countries require that you pay that country's importation taxes.

Another problem we've got is that when jobs are outsourced to other countries, manufacturing jobs in particular, the workers are paid far less than they would in the U.S., and often in conditions that would be flat out illegal in the U.S.

Please don't see this as me telling you to shut up about your concerns. Most people would be worried about friends and family who are overseas, even without a tense political climate like we have right now. I'm really just trying to point out that the media has become a giant fustercluck, and just about everyone involved in reporting the news is trying to spin everything that happens to favor their views.

The problem with that EO is not only was it apparently written by two non-lawyers (Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller), but it essentially denies folks who have green cards and visas their due process, which under our laws they are entitled to. You can't just do away with the 5th Amendment. Three judges thus far, their political leanings aside, have rightfully put a hold on it. Essentially, a good chunk of that EO is illegal.

I am all for more extensive vetting, but what's interesting to note is that countries that tend to harbor a lot of jihadists were not on the list (and coincidentally, have business interests for Trump):

Saudi Arabia (home of the 9/11 hijackers and frequently funds our enemies)
Turkey (Which just became home to Erdogan, who has openly entertained rebuilding the Ottoman Empire and starting an islamic caliphate)
United Arab Emirates
Egypt (Which routinely ignores the plight of Coptic Christians and other religious minorities under persecution)

Again, I am not seeking to start a political debate and I am all for more extensive vetting of those coming into this country (it is needed), but this not only looks like it was a very poorly-thought-out EO, it's looking like there is a massive conflict of interest here.

EDIT: Minor correction, it's STEPHEN Miller, not Jason Miller

Going to clarify myself on this one very carefully in the hopes that I don't blow up because Citizenship and Immigration is a HIGHLY sensitive subject to me, not to mention I have a lot of pride as a US-Born Taiwanese...

I am aware that hold US Citizenship is little to no problem. My younger sisters and I are US Citizens. It is when you aren't holding US Citizenship that concerns are being drawn (IE: Student/Tour/Business Visas, Green Card [Legal Immigrants/Permanent Resident], Employment Papers, etc.), in this case my parents. The first time we went overseas, we did have some issue but it was only waived because all three of us are present. As long as there is ONE person who is a US Citizen that is present with the party, there is little to no issues (Save for those like that one LAX officer...). This is why it makes it difficult for my parents to travel back to Taiwan for visitation because at least one of us has to go back with our parents.

As for the relations between Taiwan and China. There has been a very long history of dispute between these two countries, namely due to the fact that China refuses to acknowledge Taiwan as an independent country. China still is trying to treat it as though it is a territory of their own, which isn't right nor fair. There have already been a few reports that China has been sending their translated as "Spy Planes" over Taiwan, and not to mention that this sort of aggressive action they are taking has even garnered the attention of the US, which, if I remember correctly, had one of our largest naval ships deployed to the East.

Keep in mind that because China is a 'superpower', many nations do not recognize Taiwan as independent but as a territory of China (The idea of 'One China', which, again, is false). This is the reason why we cannot fly our own flags or represent ourselves as Taiwan in international summits and events; we have to use Chinese Taipei, Formosa, People's Republic of China, or Republic of China as our name while we have to fly an alternative flag that is white with a 5-petal flower with the white sun in a blue circle in the middle.

Oh, and let's not forget the fact that since Taiwan hasn't been involved in any sort of warfare for who knows how long and the steady changes of society, Taiwan is NOT READY TO DEFEND ITSELF IF CHINA DECLARES A WAR OF ANY SORT. The boys of this generation are equivalent to pencil pushers; their Army would die in one day of boot in the US equivalent. There have been running political gags that Taiwan would just quickly raise the white flag if China actually does call for an act of war, and that really bothers me because that's my motherland and I have a lot of pride and respect for it. And while things were not so stable during the Obama Administration, at the very least, things were significantly far more peaceful between the two nations than it is now.

I mean, for crying out loud... Trump was blaming the Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen for calling him first when the President Tsai clearly states that it was Trump that called her first. That's not exactly a great starting out when blame is being thrown about, especially on an INTERNATIONAL SCALE, and of course this sort of action is a little more than a poisonous barb in China's side because it makes Trump OPENLY AND PUBLICLY recognize that Taiwan is an independent country, which the US does acknowledge but not recognize under the theory of the One-China.

Yeah, it really bothers me that Saudi Arabia wasn't on the list, especially when it recently came to light that Saudi ambassadors were helping the hijackers just before the 9/11 attacks, and our government knew about it soon afterwards.

So instead of holding the Saudi government responsible, Bush went for Afghanistan instead.

As for the whole "One China" thing, it bugs me a bit, because it seems like China was/is forcing people to be part of their country. I haven't looked into why they feel the need to do that, though.
