About 2 years ago, Rooster Teeth, the group responsible for the hit Halo Machima series Red vs Blue, previewed an entirely unique web series called RWBY. Appearing with a modern setting expertly blended with a mix of epic fantasy, its entrance in its first season took the net by storm. And me by surprise, with its unique setting and, more over, its energetic, lovable, diverse cast of characters. I eventually learned about the genius behind this phenomenal new series: Monty Oum. This whole thing had started out as his idea, and very clearly worked incredibly hard to bring this story. Not just as a one man team, but as someone who had brought together his colleagues and co-workers to his dreams. I had a great time following its workings and the second season. Then, very recently, I discovered through Tumblr that Monty had been hospitalized, and placed in critical care. It was a surprise on my end, but my always-positive attitude felt that things would turn out for the best. I was wrong. Today, upon returning home, I am shocked to discover that Monty has passed away, only 33 years old. While I certainly didn't know him in person, I knew he had made impact on many of the lives he's worked with. My condolences go his friends, his colleagues, and most of all, his wife. To hear a life cut so short like that when he was still in his prime is just a tragedy. I find myself profoundly affected by this, not just because of the works he was still continuing of doing, but of the aspiration I have. In my time spent writing here and other places, a spent a great deal developing various characters, and unique ideas. Characters and ideas that I've become incredibly fond of, and endeavored to share them as a real story to others. Not here, but everywhere in due time. It is a dream that has always stayed with me, but in the past, has often wavered or briefly forgotten, either due to my school work, habits; or how daunting the task feels as times. Yet in my eyes, Monty, with all his heart, passion and effort, struck out and created something truly endearing, and inspiring, to many people. It is these days, ironically due to some of my hardships, that I've begun to get a better foothold where I want to go with my life. And it is today, in the hardest way ever – in reading about everything on Tumblr - that I find him becoming one of my biggest role models ever. May you're ideas and characters live on in the years to come. |

"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death." — Monty Oum | |

I just read about this, it is very sad, especially given how sudden it all was. I met him once, he seemed like a nice person, I've not seen anything anywhere to contradict that. |
