Despite being raised - or conditioned, in this case - to be a soldier, the sudden change in Chel's demeanor in response to her question did not go unnoticed. In fact, Moria was far more sensitive to mood changes than most would suspect, thanks to both the pride and, especially, fear she had initially illicit within the facility. As a result, she had become accustomed to reading people's demeanor and stance as a way to silently judge her own progress.

In this case, though, it wasn't so much as progress that she was assessing than - well, she wasn't sure what it was, only that Chel had every inch of her attention like the facility's personel did. Granted, it took her a moment to fully realize just what Chel was even after her initial explanation - and even then, the concept that...she and all her clones were essentially the same person was a tough one to wrap her mind around.

Nonetheless, by the end of her story, Moria felt she understood the gist of Chel's story. And, strangely, got the feeling that the event had left her...unsettled. She had saw no reason to further push onto that subject

"Yeah...yeah, I guess you're right, I suppose," she replied, in heart of Chel's advice, brushing her cyan bang hair aside in an attempt to inspire more confidence to herself. And there was a flair of spunk in the movement. Just a little.

But it went without saying that, ironically, Chel's word were still apt for her state of mind. Even now, her eyes began wondering with indecision, still unable to shake the impulse of evading meeting her...progenitor. Before of all this, it would have been so easy for her to ignore this impulse - so long as someone had given her an order to do so, that is. Now, though, she was unsure of how to handle herself with the independence that Tamaki, Chel - and Jenosa displayed.

She knew full well she would have to face her eventually, but...not like she would with a standard combat scenario. The confrontation was, well, she had no idea what it was going to be like, only that it wasn't going to involve fighting - not unless Jenosa became an active threat. And that ambiguity - not knowing where any of this would lead - was the most unnerving thing for her.

Instead, as the few seconds passed, she found her mind focusing on a 'childhood' memory that had somehow been dredged up by Chel's story. One that she thought had been perfectly buried but had always remained in the back of her mind.

"I..." she said, paushed, and then continued, the words just coming out of her mouth, "I don't know why - why I want to tell you this, but- she turned her head to the side, trying to formulate what kept leaping to her mind -when I was...created and put to training, barely half your height, I had...dreams."

"Well, they weren't quite dreams, but whenever i slept, I...ended up learning things. Training routines I shouldn't have learned yet. It surprised my teachers, and it was even suggested I had somehow inherited memories from past...creations like me."

She stopped for a moment, reach for a glass from the cupboard, and now pored herself her own glass of water. Taking a sip, she continued, turning the glass in her hand in thought. "Tamaki tells me, though, that they had actually been training two of us - two...clones - seperately within the facility. That while one of us slept, the other trained. She tells me...I felt everything she did through this - mental connection we share. I don't know if that's what you have, but...I felt everything." Her face grew dark when she spoke the next phrase, "Including her failure ."

She halted, trying to formulate what she had experienced, but only came up with one phrase. "Nightmare," she spoke, "in my sleep, I found I became this...nightmare."

She made a relieved sigh, as though something tormenting tormenting all this time had released her. At least for now. Looking up in thought, she finished, "I have no idea what truly happened. I'm told failures like her are killed but - she paused for a moment, then shrugged - probably nothing."

Popping her back against the wall, and lamented, "I...I just said all that, and I have no idea why. You - all you do though. Whenever you speak, you know the purpose behind those words. I don't."

Right. Well, that was predictable.

Grace knew she wouldn't have been welcome here. But truth be told, even she didn't know what she was doing here.

"Everybody just chill, okay?" she said, holding her hands out so that they could all see she didn't have a weapon. "I know I'm not the most trustworthy person in the galaxy, but I'm not here to mess with anyone. Look... I just got out of prison and... I'm trying to correct some mistakes here. Can I do that? I know I fucked up, but can I try and make things right here?"

Yeah, that oughta do it, real convincing there. Good job, Gracie.

She didn't know what to do. She really didn't. All she knew was that some overriding sense of guilt had brought her here, and it wasn't just about Jenosa. It was a lifetime of living on the wrong side of the law that had brought her to this point. Being locked up wasn't enough, she had to do something.

Goddamn Catholic school brainwashing...

Not that Jenosa looked to be in a very forgiving mood. She was still right in the middle of a full-fledged freakout. Talking her down might be damn near impossible. As for the Achilles woman, well her face was totally unreadable. Then again, she did have a weapon in her hand, so it was pretty clear what was on her mind.

"Riiiiiiight," Jenosa went, sarcasm dripping from her voice, "you just got out of prison. And your voice appearing in a secret science facility was just a very clever recording."

Then, Jenosa paused for a moment, letting a sudden realization sink in.

And then, smacking herself in the face, she laughed.

"Which of course it was. Oh, now I feel stupid. There's no way you could have left prison without leaving a Houdini act all over the news. Beautiful. But really," she said in a more serious tone, "I am not in the mood to deal with at the moment. Why don't you, y'know, sit down and wait your turn. Me, I already got a clone to-

She stopped mid-sentence as she just saw her 'bigger' self walking into another room with a blond woman. Away from her. With her back completely turned. At this, Jenosa made a bemused expression, and turned to view both whom she reconigzed as Tamaki, and someone who just like the blond woman she saw.

“Uhh, where's big-me going?” she asked Tamaki directly.

Tamaki let out a deep breath before saying, “I think...into the kitchen to get some pointers on how to...approach you..”

“Approach me?” Jenosa said, pointing to herself in surprise.

“Yeah. I think you actually make her nervous. It's actually been a rough day for her.”

Jenosa paused, blinked for a moment, and then said, “Well, this is certainly becoming far more awkward than I expected.”

Sighing, she turned back to Grace for a moment, then raised a hand in a gesture that said, “One second,” before turning back to the general direction of the kitchen. And yelled, “Hey, whenever you decided to stop being chicken, I'll be here waiting for you.”

Making an exasperated sigh, she turned back to Grace said, “Well, aren't you lucky. Me and you actually get to sit down and have a nice conversation while I wait for my clone to work the courage. So...do tell me something that will make me feel a lot better for having taken a single job that screwed up 5 years of my life. And, hint, its not the you stabbed on me.”

Alissa watched everything that was going on, for the moment no one was trying to convince her to let them question the operative; which she was sure would prove fruitless. And they seemed distracted enough that they had dropped the notion of placing him into that scanner, which made her uncomfortable first because it meant un-securing him long enough to move him to the scanner bed, and secondly because it would provide them with insight into her own physiology…and she didn’t want the collected scientists poking at her.

She turned her attention toward the exchange between Grace and Jenosa, given the history she decided to focus on that for the time being. She did holster the weapon though, appearing perhaps just a bit more relaxed, though given the distance to cover and the fact that grace had witnessed something very close to Alissa’s full potential, armed or not Alissa felt grace probably had the impression that Alissa could stop any aggression before it really got started.

She paused looking toward Rose a moment, the subject of putting him in the scanner still not completely dropped, she moved over toward the other woman quietly, though still keeping an eye on the exchange between Jenosa and Grace.

“you would find a synthetically produced human, Nano systems supporting the enhanced biology, integrated synthetic muscles, reinforced skeleton, several computer systems regulating the brain, and nervous system….I suspect his neural kinetics are not as high as mine…he appears to be a second generation Achillies operative...” she sighed quietly…. “if he woke up in the scanner he would self-terminate to protect classified technology, and his neural monitoring unit would auto terminate if it detected a non-coalition deep scan while his cognitive process was disabled…as you said….paranoid”

"How about the fact that I've been in prison this whole time for that very stabbing?" Grace replied. "Funny how we seem to keep glossing over that."

She thought about discussing life behind bars, about how it was no picnic. About how in her first few days inside she had to learn which people to avoid and for what reasons. About how someone was kind enough to tell her which areas not to venture into by herself, and how she tested out that theory one day and somehow managed to come out alive, but not unscathed. About how certain male guards were known to get... overzealous with the female inmates. But all that seemed like it would turn this into a game of one-upmanship, who suffered the most these past few years. That wasn't something she felt like getting into.

"Look, I owe you, okay? I did something bad to you, and now it's my responsibility to correct it. And I intend to do whatever it takes to make things right. I'm not expecting us to be best friends or anything, I just wanna do my part to help you however I can.

"Think about it. As of today, you are my boss. I'll do what you say, when you say it, and I'm not gonna question you. You get to take all this chaos right here," she spread her arms out, as if she was presenting her new outfit, "and turn it against the people who are messing with you." She stiffened up and held up her right hand. "I hereby swear my loyalty to Jenosa Arma. I shall follow your orders without reservation or hesitation, until which time you decide that my debt has been paid. So help me God, Buddha, Vishnu, Jerry Garcia, whoever."

"Yeah, well that's what's called instant karma, Grace," Jenosa replied sharply with a pointed finger before placing her knuckles against her hips in a no-nonsense stance as Grace talked back.

Her expression easily went from annoyed, to skeptical to actually surprised but still very skeptical.

Holy shit, Jenosa thought, is...is Grace actually making herself my personal b$%^? Well, ok, probably not to that kind of extent, she reconsidered swiftly; and really, the thought had really only entered her mind because of her foul mood. Grace really had chosen a bad time to just jump into her life. Otherwise, lethal stabbing or not, she respected Grace's integrity as both a person and independent woman.

"Are - are you serious?" she spoke loudly, and after a brief pause "holy crap, you are! Wow! This is just rich. If I could see Travis's face if he actually heard about this, haha."

After getting over her initial laugh and excitement, she said, "Alright, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you really are here to help me. But that doesn't mean I trust you. Hell, I've been trying to keep my personal life secret and still a bunch of creeps somehow kept track of me. So try anything funny and I swear I will not care what Alissa does to you. Kapeesh?"

"Oh, believe me, I've got so much negative karma built up, it's gonna take a while before I can get myself level." Grace didn't know if Jenosa actually believed in karma or if she was just using it as a figure of speech, but she herself certainly did. Very much so.

She tied her long black hair back into a pony tail, giving Jenosa a much clearer view of her new tattoo, a pair of eagle fathers down the left side of her neck ("Isn't that a little stereotypical?" Ronnie had asked her, to which she'd replied, "Says the guy covered in shamrocks and Celtic crosses"). She'd had the sleeve on her right arm forever, but the feathers she'd gotten recently while in the stir.

"I know you don't trust me, and that's totally understandable. I've done absolutely nothing to earn your trust, but for what it's worth, I promise I won't try anything funny.

"And um... there's one other thing." Grace looked down to the ground, looking very nervous. "I... on the trip over here I got sick during one of the jumps. And I never get sick during FTL, so I started thinking that something was up. So..."

She reached into her jacket pocket, the very same motorcycle jacket with the Federation flag on the back she'd been wearing on G79, and handed Jenosa a small long white plastic device, like a toothbrush without the brush.

"Blue means I'm pregnant," she said.

Grace let out a heavy sigh. She didn't know why she was talking to Jenosa about this, but she had to tell somebody. It had been eating at her all day.

"I spent two years in prison. I'm out three days and Jimmy knocks me up." She stuck her hands back in her pockets, her fingers brushing up against a pack of cigarettes. She wanted one. She wanted one so bad right now. In fact, the way she was feeling now she could probably smoke the whole pack in one sitting, and kill an entire bottle of gin. But those were the two things she absolutely could not have at the moment.

"Please don't tell anyone. Not Alissa, and especially not Travis."

By now, Jenosa, having determined that Grace wasn't here to slit her throat, had taken their conversation outside of the warehouse to have it more private (And out of a room where her friend was quite inclined to keep pointing a gun at Grace. Jenosa honestly didn't need that). Of course, she still looked at Grace with an incredible amount of skepticism in her folded arms - she barely knew the woman, and what she did know was from her experience on G79. And from Travis's mouth.

She listened to Grace give her the textbook safety assurance talk before the woman threw her the most unexpected curve ball. Like the absolutely last thing you'd think to hear from a woman suffering from a guilty conscious.

"Grace," she said, unable to keep a strait face, "why are you confiding this- she pointed at the pregnancy tester - with me. I mean, of all the people you had to tell at the spur of the moment..."

It had to be me, she finished in thought, and groaned outwardly. She knew suddenly finding you were pregnant without any immediate form of commitment was hell of a shocker, especially if you were a free spirited, independent woman like herself. She understood the feeling all too well, knowing the kind of responsibilities it would lock into you life. And she personally hated even a moderate amount of it.

"Good grief, Grace," Jenosa said, "this is honestly the last thing I want to tell anyone. Now, do you have any other Earth-shattering revelations you have the sudden urge to share? Or can we go in so you can help me deal with my cl- my- ugh, can I just call her my 'sister' and not make that sound awkward?"

Just... Kind of out there...
[ * * * * * * * * * ]
Twilight found himself unable to see anything, his thoughts were clouded and he didn't quite realize where he was but as his senses returned he began to hear the familiar murmur of city life, people walking about, talking, cars and other vehicles moving about... It took a little bit, but he soon realized the reason he couldn't see anything was because he was lying face first into the concrete pavement with his hood covering his head.

Slowly he began to move his head to look at his surroundings, and as he did he could hear a few surprised shouts from some nearby people who had been looking at him in his downed state, though they quickly returned to their own business once they got a better look at him. From what he could gather from a quick look at his surroundings he was in a run-down part of the city, apparently somewhere on the edge. This confused him, last he remembered he was standing in the transport that was supposed to take him to his destination... Perhaps he had lost consciousness during the trip, and some people had decided to dump him at the first stop that was available.

Giving out a wheezing grunt as he stood up Twilight took in more of his surroundings as he worked on reorienting himself. It seemed he had at least reached his destination in the broadest sense, it was probably the right city after all... However he had no idea where he was within it (other than the outskirts) but on the bright side he hadn't been dumped down a garbage drain. He expected that to happen one of these days... As he took his first few shambling steps he checked his person, finding someone had taken the cheap side-arm he'd procured the other day. Not that he'd really expected anything else after losing consciousness like that, but it was truly infuriating that he needed to find a new one every couple days... It also seemed the small amount of money he'd scraped together had been taken, so no more rides for him for a while it seemed. Typical.

...

A few days later Twilight found himself wandering through a desolate and run down district nearby where he had first awoken. He'd been all over the city the last few days, trying to find any hints to the whereabouts of this supposed researcher who might be able to help him, but nothing... When he was about to give up hope yet again he just so happened to be wandering past two people who seemed to be trading rumors or gossip, and he managed to overhear something about a strange lab in a run down part of the city. Twilight stopped to ask the two in more detail, and while they seemed a bit alarmed at his appearance, he got some more information from them.

Normally he would have been very suspicious about something so convenient occurring, but Twilight was not in a proper state of mind at this time, his thoughts often grew clouded and he had a hard time focusing on things other than his current objective. Still, he couldn't help but feel he was being led on a wild goose chase...

Twilight stopped to lean against the wall of an alley, to give himself both some time to think and to rest. Normally he'd be able to walk for days on end, but lately he'd grown exhausted after just a few hours of trudging along. His body was deteriorating, and it seemed his stamina was one of the first things that he was losing in the process... Shaking those thoughts from his mind he instead turned his attention to his surroundings. From the brief descriptions he'd gotten, he should be nearby now. However given how similar everything looked to him around here and his less than clear state of mind, it was possible he'd managed to get himself lost again...

It was now, while trying to figure out where to go next that Twilight suddenly heard two? No, three gunshots in the distance. Two came from the same weapon in such quick succession he barely registered the second. His first thought given the neighborhood was gang violence, but giving it some more thought he was certain that at least one of the weapons had been an energy weapon, not typically the thing you'd expect street level criminals to own. This made him worried, but all the same it gave him an idea of where to go next. And so with a new objective in mind Twilight pushed himself off the wall as he began to sprint down the alley, in the direction of the fight, the tattered cloak he wore fluttering around him.

Pushing past his limits Twilight soon found himself staring at a run-down looking warehouse with a truck outside of it, hardly living up to the supposed gossip he'd heard, but then when did they ever? What was of more interest however was the woman clad in black armour, carrying what he assumed was a man, also in black armour, into the warehouse while a woman in street clothing followed them. Curious... He had to assume they had been the ones fighting earlier, but why? This seemed far too suspect... Despite his desperation, even Twilight wasn't willing to simply walk up to that place in his current state.

Hiding out nearby Twilight continued to observe the warehouse with as much discretion as he could, expecting it to have some pretty heavy security (what with the woman he'd seen). However when a ship seemingly came out of nowhere and made an aggressive swerve in the air about before landing in front of the warehouse Twilight had to practically dive into cover, not wanting to risk being seen. A minute later Twilight dared peek out through his hiding spot once again, seeing the back of a familiar woman, the most telling aspect being her massive red ponytail, just as she disappeared into the warehouse.

Twilight wasn't sure how to respond to this, he certainly hadn't expected to run into Jenosa here of all places, assuming of course that it was Jenosa... But he'd never met another person with such an outrageously impractical hairstyle, so odds that it was someone else was probably fairly slim. It was perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but Twilight decided he'd take his chances now and stood up and began to make his way toward the warehouse at a "casual" pace, he walked with confidence but if observing him one probably couldn't help but notice that he was doing his damnedest to not fall over every couple steps.

OOC: Think I've posted this one before, but this is about how I envision Twilight in his current run down state. He's got his hood up at the moment though, and the phazon veins aren't quite as obvious >>;CLICKY

"Well..." Grace said, a sly grin creeping across her face. And just like that, the ol' girl was feeling like herself again.

"Let's see. I smoked my first cigarette when I was ten, which I stole from my mom's purse. I smoked my first joint when I was twelve. Lacey Garcia was the first girl I made out with, but not the last. Junior year of high school, I slept with Sasha McAllister's boyfriend. I once cheated on Jimmy with his brother. And... oh yeah! Travis has a tattoo!" Her smile got even more wicked. "Ain't tellin' where, though."

She snickered just a little bit, feeling better than she had all day. A huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Now that she had finally told someone about the little Vega she had on the way, it was like she was once again free to be herself. Which is to say, extremely talkative and probably annoying as hell.

"But you're right," she said, switching gears. "We should probably get down to some real business." She went back into the warehouse, where the others were still commiserating. Once again, she was sure that she was the last person they wanted to hear from, but that didn't change the fact that she might be the person they needed to hear from.

"We have to move. Quickly. It's not safe here. I've been hearing all sorts of stuff from little birdies for weeks. Section 6 knows you're here. That's how I was able to find you. I don't know if they're here yet, but they're coming. So get ready."
