Exactly. With no Dark Aether to connect to, where exactly would the portals lead to? Nobody knows, as they've been left unused since Dark Aether's destruction.

I kinda like your idea CEMP. If this is heading the way I think it is, expect to see a new character profile in my thread.

(Homeworld 1) The Kushan mothership and it's fleet never encounter the Bentusi and choose to remain within the nebula with the Kaldeshi in the hopes of hiding from the Tiidan Empire. Captain Elson's rebellion fails without their help and the Bentusi are almost wiped out. Sixty years later, a large Tiidan fleet enters the Kaldeshi nebula in the hopes of harvesting it.
The crusade against the defilers begins.
One minor problem with that. The only reason that the Taiidan attack the Bentusi is because the Bentusi helped out the Mothership. If the Bentusi never found the Kushan, then there would be no reason for the Taiidan to attack them. Another problem, the only thing that would happen if the Taiidan entered the nebula is that they'd be utterly annihilated by the combined forces of the Kushan and Kadesh, and then they'd keep on living as they were. Yet another thing, the Taiidan are afraid of the nebula, the Bentusi even go so far as to say so. The Kushan would also not want to stop in the nebula, because they'd still be following the guidestone and trying to retrieve their homeworld. Sixth and lastly, without the aid of the Bentusi, the Kushan would have been assuredly destroyed by the Kadeshi without the ion technology and other advanced technology the Bentusi gave them, if they hadn't been ultimately finished off earlier when the Rancor cornered them in the Great Wastelands.

Cool idea, though.

Cool idea, though.
Yeah, I was not really thinking about canon when I wrote that. I was more focused upon breaking the usual Homeworld alternate reality (the mothership being destroyed above Hiigara during the final mission and a long prolonged war guerrilla breaks out.)

I think the Bentusi being killed off problem could be solved with Makkan's crusade, but that might be pushing it. So the protagonists do meet them but they are killed off after that.

The Tiidani entering the neblua plot hole, I think I was concentrating upon their pride. Think about it, they were an imperialist government to begin with, how do you think they'd feel after destroying a major rebellion and blasting apart the homeworld of their ancient enemy (Karak.)

If you think it’s worth continuing I could put some more thought into it, otherwise I’ll just drop the idea.

SUPER SHELL BATTLE MODE 3!

XD I went to assume that Nightclaw was referring to having the DT appear on Aether during the crisis. Now that I'm looking back, it didn't say any of that at all. My bad.

On that note, the Crimson Geist A.K.A Infinite Infinite Geist of Reality A.K.A (His more, ummm standard (Much like a real name. He's been called many things)) Di'onn, is somewhat of a god character. This isn't necessarily bad thing, of course, since Di'onn is in my own hands, and we have quite a bit of 'powerful' characters who are used correctly. Although he can't wave his hand and destroy an entire army, he almost has unlimited freedom and almost impossible to kill. Coupled with a few other ambiguous abilities, you can sort of think of him like Q from Star Trek.

Of course, any of this is subject to change as a story goes on, and i can assure you i won't be making a huge.

In anycase, I do look forward to implementing the idea.

Who said Dark Aether was the only "Dark Twin"?

An idea I've had for a while involves the idea that there is an entire "Dark Mirror" half of the universe. Incredibly cliche, is it not?

Anyways, I've made like... 5 new species and 5 worlds that would exist here. I've given the species alliances within the light AND dark worlds (in the case of one species), and I have created somewhat of a backstory to the universe.

It didn't fall into existance starting with Dark Aether. It's an alternate, parallel reality, and even though its almost identical to our universe in the properties of matter and energy, its denizens are far more strange than us. Many are exceedingly violent and primitive, a good example being the Ing. Ah, the Ing. Spidery hand things. Dark Aether existed before the meteor strike. The meteor strike simply released so much energy that it created somewhat of a glitch in reality, and Aether and Dark Aether (who share more or less the exact same galactic co-ordinates, only in parallel universes) "overlapped". This explains the stealing of planetary energy. The Ing, being the violent things they are, attack the luminoth, the war occurs, and then there's Metroid Prime 2.

Dark Aether is destroyed due to loss of planetary energy. However, the portals have all switched to another location. One with slightly more advanced citizens. The W'Kank. Spindly, whispy humanoids. Their faces are covered by a natural shield of cartilage and bone, and they do not appear to have sensory organs. But the plate on their face does seem to glow in the same fashion as an Ing eye when they are in complete darkness.

So the W'Kank stumble upon Aether. One of the gates to the "Shadow Corridor", the void seperating our universe and the parallel universe, malfunctions and connects to Aether. The W'Kank, not knowing what to make of the Luminoth and the Federation, attack.

Federation casualties are high. The Luminoth fled the instant the gate re-activated. Most of the Phazon reclamation force is either dead, wounded, or has deserted. The W'Kank slowly move out of the Great Temple, and meet armed Luminoth forces. The Luminoth, not knowing what the W'Kank are or where they came from, obviously open fire. The strange thing about the W'Kank though is that they can survive in bright light, don't seem to be affected by Aether's atmosphere, and seem to be resistant to the Light Beam.

More weapons formulation is made, when a lone W'Kank is sent by the inspection team to propose a cease-fire. This W'Kank is different. The sensory spines (think Ing spikes+Predator spines=W'Kank "Headwhiskers") of the other W'Kank were all shades of grey, lavender, violet or in some cases blue. But this one's spines were as black as an Ing's skin. This W'Kank, is K'Brill Th'Rasa. The third Darkspine of the C'Nato era. Having the quality of Darkspine is a genetic mutation influenced by the Shadow Corridor itself, and any species that communes directly within it will be affected by radiation of sorts.

Anyways, K'Brill speaks with the luminoth (most surprisingly) and a cease-fire is made. The W'Kank then proceed to (more or less) peacefully explore the world of Aether. W'Kank settlements are brought up in a matter of days, much to the dismay of the Luminoth. The face of Aether is changed as a massive W'Kank gigalopolis is constructed more or less on the opposite side of the planet from the Sanctuary Fortress. Eventually, the Luminoth realise that the fact that the W'Kank haven't killed them all yet means that they can probably be trusted. U-Mos was right; the W'Kank are trustworthy.

After several nondescript months, the W'Kank enter Federation space, and begin terraforming and colonizing human-uninhabited worlds. The Federation sees the W'Kank as a threat, and many of the colony worlds are outright destroyed. However the W'Kank continue to peacefully make their way towards Earth (or whatever the Federation capital world is) to attempt to JOIN the Federation. Their overly friendly nature is suspicious to many, and most conspiracy theorists believe they are actually trying to get our trust so it will be easier for them to backstab us in the end.

But this is untrue. After several uneventful years of alliance (they were unable to completely join the Federation due to the fact that they are from a parallel, dark universe), Metroid Prime 3 occurs. And that's about all I've thought up to.

If you have any ideas on how to make this better, please tell me.
Takeoff.

In all honesty, while I'm not directly against the part of a mirror dimension there are several things that outright say that Dark Aether was created by the leviathans collision on the already unstable Aether. First fact, upon collision with Aether the planets energy was strangely halved, half of it having been transfered to Dark Aether. Second fact, which is a part of the first in a sense, is that the world is a dark mirror of Aether in nearly all senses of the word, buildings and constructions that excisted on Aether, like the sanctuary fortress, was also mirrored in dark aether, now I have large doubts that the Ing would or could construct such advanced things, even if they had the intelligence to perform it I doubt they wouldent care to do so, another part of it is that the energy controllers are on the exact same locations, just mirrored.

And about your history for the W'Kank, this is merely a minor thing though. In metroid prime 3 there is a scan for Aether (on the Elysia satelite place) where you get to know that the planet is slowly recovering from the damage done by the leviathan and Ing, and I doubt you'd miss another large settlement being built there, especially by another, unknown, race. Also the time between prime 2 and 3 isnt that long as far as I know :/ Isnt it like 6 months?

Eh whatever, maybe I'm just very negative about it cause it goes against my view of the Ing and Dark Aether.

Well this is like an alternate version of the timeline. In the Metroid Prime 3 in THIS timeline, scans would detect W'Kank civilization as well as luminoth civilization. Its like the other alternates that have been discussed here.

Also I got my time confused with CTA and Metroid Prime 3. Its CTA that takes place 9 years after Metroid Prime 3. And I thought Metroid Prime 3 took place 9 years after metroid prime 2 for some reason. Probably I was just half awake.

I'll try to make this better sometime.

I thought what we were discussing right now, in the thread, was simply how to bring in a protos character into the current timeline... Oh well guess I'm confused.
