Reality’s Exile was established in 2004. For four years, we have written dozens of stories and had a lively and active community. This is an excellent life span for an RPing board, since most last no longer than 6 months. All things considered, I think RE had an excellent run. However, I think we can all agree that the recent posting declines, inactivity, and cessation of new member recruitment has led to a less rich and less exciting community than we’ve had in years past. We have seen a general lack of inspiration for the past six months, and sadly it’s most prominent in our once-active administration. Rather than have RE slowly writhe in its death throes, I think it’s time to call an end to the RP section of the board. I will continue paying domain fees to keep RE up and running, but since we no longer have the interested membership available to us to keep our RPs healthy, I think it’s best if we finish up what we’ve got running and start no new RPs. The general section of this board will remain open to allow us to communicate and perhaps decide when or if we’ll open the RP section again, but I think it’s unfair to keep people here who no longer can make the commitment of RPing actively. This will allow people the freedom to travel to other RP boards, regain their inspiration, and possibly come back in the future with a new member or two. Please comment below if you would like to share any thoughts. Please think about this before you post, because I’m sure this will upset quite a few of you. Not a bad idea. I think a good break from RPing on RE might all give us some time to freshen up. Posting has almost become a chore, lacking in enthusiasm. This is not creativity. If the domain is still payed for and the general topics still open and IRC still active, we might be able to bond again and come up with fresh ideas. I think a break would do us all more good than harm. We MIGHT loose a few people this way, but RE is heading down the drain anyhow... >.> This is the only forum I've ever seen stay so active for so long. If we don't all forget about RE, we can keep it alive a while yet. Don't forget the community we have here and stay in touch and we should be fine. |

It's kind of ironic that this thread could mean the closing of realitys-exile and there's only like two posts in it. I don't think it's a bad idea,considering you're paying for it,I suppose we're lucky to have been able to have an organized place to role-play. Although, I think i'll still be RPing weather or not it's on realitys-exile,if we are going to be closing shop though,I really think people should post in their respective RPs(*hint hint*). |

I would rather that the RP sections do not close, for the sake that there might be ideas that pop up time to time for the current stories, especially for myself and a few others, as we plan ahead and have tons of things written up. If needed, it is best to send a mass email and go from there, warning everyone about the inactivity of the boards. Some might leave to join others for inspiration (I'm on 4 currently, but still come back here as needed), but they will eventually come back. It would be a good idea to just have a break, but don't close the RPs. That way, if we have something to say, then we will post accordingly... Just my two-cents... |

I can't say that I like this idea much, but I agree that RE is slowly but surely dying, I've not been a member long but it's clear that there is a great community here and as such i'm glad that the board will not die out entirely. Though i've had a couple of ideas in the past for RP's (Heavenfall for example) they have never truly gotten off the ground so if RE's roleplay forums do restart I will take another shot at writing them. Other than that i've not got much to add to this thread. |

I'm gonna agree with Jess on this one. Just because we're not posting a whole lot at the moment does not mean the RP sections should be closed. Most of the reason I'm not posting at the moment is that I'm trying to think of what to post next without having some tiny-ass post with nothing really in it, even though I'm not really needed at the moment. |

Firstly, I am one of those that feel sluggish towards postings. Uninspired and dragging, I feel like trying to squeeze out that "one-more-post" is a chore like Darthanis said. Don't get me wrong! While things were hopping, I've seen some of the awesomest (is that even a word?) creativity come down the line from our members. So, for my own lack of creativity and activity, I do apologize. I just couldn't motivate myself to continue Resurrection as much as I wanted to. I'd pop up this site and just end up staring at it with a blank mind. And, every time I did, I felt pretty guilty. Same goes for Heroes and Ride the Wave. Apathy, inactivity, lack of creativity.... these things tend to spread like a disease. Until we can become healthy again for the board's sake, then Reality's Exile will die a most horrible death. Its one thing to have inactivity and the occasional "hello" post to let people know you're still alive. Its another monster to simply let everything hang. I believe all roleplays should be put on ice until a time we feel that things can get up and running again. I mean.... just look at my brain! *holds out brain* It is covered in ew and is flat like a tire! A pancake! A polygon! |

It's kind of ironic how you're deciding to do this right as I was actually starting to get my inspiration back, Aiko. I for one, am against this idea. A short break from RE, I could understand, let everyone clear there heads, and postpone any RPs currently going. That, I'm fine with. But to me, completely closing down RE seems like a rash and unneccesary decision. So, that's my two cents. I'm against the idea, and sticking by my decision. Right now, CTA is actually getting pretty damn interesting, and closing down RE right as it gets to that point seems kinda 'WTF?!' |

Let me make a clarification. I'm not shutting down RE. The general section (aka everything above the Sci-Fi RP section) including Intros, Announcements, General, Book Reviews, etc. will remain open. RPs in which people are still posting regularly can remain open, but RPs that have already pretty much died (such as Resurrection, Heroes, etc.) will be locked until we get enough interest in them to start them up again. I would also put a freeze on new RPs in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy section, although I may consider leaving the Random RP section open as a compromise for those who wish to continue RPing. HOWEVER, there will be no active moderation in those areas since officially they will be on hold. I understand the reluctance of people to shut down the RPs on this board, but I'm thinking long term benefit. A few RPs crawling around at a snail's pace will only seem like a chore to post in when you have to keep rereading everything to make sure you know where you're at. When it gets to that point, posting is no longer the fun pastime it should be. I think for now it's best if we part ways, examine other RP boards, and cross pollinate until we're all refreshed with new ideas and possibly new members. RE always was a gathering place for people when other RP boards died, and thus it may resurrect again in that fashion. I'm still inviting comments. I would like to hear from all the members of RE if possible before I make a final decision, but as it stands right now I honestly think a RP shut down is the best thing for RE to prevent it from stagnating further. The last thing I want is for everyones' last memory of RE as a struggling, dying board. Let's remember it for what it was before it becomes senile, and then it'll be easier getting it up and active again once people are ready for it. |

I haven't started an RP yet... I've only been seriously involved in one so far... I'd say something more than "I'm against the RP boards shutting down" but sadly, thats about all I can think of at the moment... If I ever find a better reason for myself other than "I haven't really had a chance to do anything", I'll post it. |
