“Several other ships have arrived,” Saken told Katok. Katok kneaded his forehead. “Most of them have gone with Samus down to the surface, but one of them is still in orbit. It doesn’t seem sure of what to do at the current moment.”

“Perhaps we should provide assistance,” Arquil said. “We could escort this ship to our outpost on the planet. It would be best not to distribute all of Narssek’s agents in the same location.”

“True,” Katok said. “Let us send a wing of GMFs to escort the new ship down to the planet.”

“Also,” Arquil said, coming close to Katok. “Mal i`hakan kraniulsk skalir re`eli?” she whispered.

“If it makes you feel any safer,” Katok said. He pressed a button on the control panel.

* * *

The wing of five GMFs headed toward Jenosa’s freighter.

“Unidentified freighter, this is GMF wing gamma. We have been sent on the behalf of Her Highness, Arquil Shorena, to escort you down to the planet’s surface,” the wing commander said.

Outside of Corsair, two huge docking bay doors suddenly opened a crack. They began to slowly spread until they were fully open. Inside the docking bays were two capital ships, though each was only about an eighth of the length of the entire carrier. They drifted out very slowly.

“Destroyers Krak`Faren and Cervil`Fersi reporting for duty.”

* * *

The Garlings on the planet were baffled by the messenger that had been sent to them. It possessed grace that they couldn’t imagine for a machine of any design they had in Known Space. One of them sent a message to Corsair.

“Command, this is Sergeant Zali Cervilis,” he said. “A sentient life form on the planet has approached us with a messenger and wishes for us to follow it.”

“Go with it,” Katok said. He turned to Skrolek. “Go down to the planet and assist them, Skrolek.”

“Sounds like fun,” Skrolek said, grinning.

"I'm hungry," Colliope whined to her sister. She stood before a dias surrounded with technology deep in the ruins of SR388. Upon that dias was Athena. They both stood at exactly the same height: 6'2". They even shared the same builds. Their similarities ended there as their color schemes and attitudes varied dramatically.

"All will be well," Athena assured the sibling. "I am hungry as well."

"I won't feast upon my guests," Colliope said aloud, more as an affirmation than a declaration.

"I should hope not," the red-haired one chastised. Though, she appreciated the reminder. "Wait. Your guests?"

"My guests."

"Why are they your guests? I invited the energy globs!" Her voice was raising to an angry trill. "I knew to invite them due to their passenger content! Their relation to our Mother! Their contact with the outside world! Who did you invite? Strangers!"

"They aren't strangers!" Colliope shot back. "You told me that their computer things said they came from Egypt! So did Grandma! All the ships here came at once."

"This is your logic?"

"My world, my logic! Hrmph!"

"Not this again."

"And," Colliope explained with the wiggle of her talons, "if they threaten the work I put into this place, I'll smite them all!"

STOPPIT!

"They're near!" they simultaneously spoke in sudden excitement.

"Sorry," Omega said to Twilight between slurps of the goody he found in the rocks. He appeared to be distracted between eating and spacing off for a moment. The remainder of the food he held in his maw quickly turned to ash as he spoke. "Feel to be home?"

He paused to think about the simple question, but it wasn't one that was ever posed to him before. In his own mind, it was quite the complex algorithm. Omega scratched at his transparent abdomen plates as the nucleus behind them flickered in frustration. Then, he floated up about a foot and turned on his side. Still in thought, he rolled over laterally until his back was to the sky and his limbs hung limp....

...like a jellyfish....

"I saw Mother here," he gently spoke aloud. "I remember sensing her. I didn't have eyes then. But, I could sense her. I remember the light. The strong waves of light washed over me. It was the light that no one can see.

"Being here reminds me of then." He smiled a soft smile for a moment as he reflected upon his own past. Then, the smile turned goofy. "Wow, suddenly Mother's in a weird mood. Wanna come see why?"

With a wave of a hand, he gestured Twilight to follow. After only about twenty minutes of hiking or floating, Omega met up with Samus and Adam. Once he got there, he could see why.

"A-a-a... Adam? You have... you have.... You can change your.... Are those.... Did Mother say some...." He stammered for the right words, but failed. However, the first thing that he could honestly say flopped out of his mouth like the socially inept alien that he was:

"DO NOT WANT!" he screeched throwing an arm over his own eyes. His tail started to twitch. "Twilight? Mother? Is that normal?"

---------------------------------------------------------

The Autoads continued their advancement leading the groups down three separate paths. Eventually, their paths would meet. It was only a matter of time.

(OOC: Just so you know scout, freighters are supposed to be cargo carrying ship (Unless I'm mistaken); and relatively big at that. I'm not sure what Jenosa's ship would be called (Maybe a cruiser), but it’s definitely not a freighter.)

Jenosa was going to follow suit when a couple of ships that she had seen in front of Samus's ship hailed. She felt that it had been a little silly for everyone to have not responded to her about what was going with these ships. She was only glad to know that she was being escorted and not forced to flee; at least, that's what she assumed the ships were going to do.

She was going to be cautious while they were around; although it wasn't like she could do much about them. Her ship was just a custom cruiser, and against those ships, she wouldn't last very long. Still, she remained at the helm to foresee the journey, and was relieve to land without incident.

She went to the cargo bay to get a life-support suit, and her first thought was to take the standard one. However, just as she neared, like a voice calling her, she hesitated, and looked at the container holding that blue, bio-suit. Although she wanted to avoid from wearing it, thus possibly making herself conspicuous, she knew that what she was getting her head into would be dangerous as Hell. She knew that suit would be a lot more protective than the standard, although she was worried about the possibility of there being acid rain.

Thankfully, she had been reminded that the doc had given her a helmet that, while not Scurge resistant, did interface with the suit for and had its own breathing apparatus. The only trouble was her hair, but rather than cutting it this time, she simply resorted to curling it into a bun.

As soon as she touched the suit, it felt like she was touching a part of herself. She hadn't worn the suit for a while since her transformation, but now, simply touching it brought a surreal feeling into her body and mind that was far greater than that of the time she first put it on.

She shook herself out of her daze, knowing that she was acting even sillier for not expecting her transformation to keep throwing new things at her. Knowing that she was wasting time, she put on the suit, getting the feeling that it had now become her skin and actual body.

But what was even more strange and surreal was when her mind interfaced with the rest of the suit's hardware. Immediately, her head momentarily felt like an overstuffed stomach, then it all drained away out of her mind. She instinctively knew she could still access the information, but it was no longer in her head.

Despite this oddity, it felt rather good to have that happen; in fact, she felt like she could think a whole lot clearer now. Whatever happened, she simply took it as another Scurge quirk.

Having equipped herself, she made her way outside. No sooner than she did, did she also realize how expand her energy-sensing ability had been expand thanks to her suit. She could sense a whole bunch of signatures around her, and she could tell where Samus, Adam, Omega, and a couple of others were a mile away. Admittedly, some of it was faint, but she found that she could focus on certain people to give her a clearer idea of who she was sensing.

She was also receiving quite a bit of 'data' from her, so much that it was dizzying, but she was able to fix the problem by shutting them off (At least, she thought she shut them off. It felt more like she diverted the flow to somewhere else.).

When she caught up, she began to say "Hey guys. So-

And stopped when she saw the guy called Adam. Even with his suit on, he could still recognize him through some 'extra-sensory' perceptions that it was him. She scoffed, and then almost snickered, despite the fact that this wasn't the time and place for it.

Or was it?

"I'm sorry,” she said to Adam, while holding a hand on her helmet’s glass, dully aware that she couldn’t reach her mouth, “but when did you become a transvestite during these two weeks of travel?"

Samus stalked down the familiar caverns to rooms deep within the planet’s crust. Her suit still retained maps of her first visit to SR388, but she barely glanced at the display in her HUD detailing her current position. She was curious about where the autoad was leading her, but she had a very good guess. Her own internalized mental map told her where she was going, but as they neared their destination, she began to feel something else…

“Well, I’ll be damned,” Adam said in a strange tone of voice. Samus was distracted from her own thoughts and turned to look at him.

Adam was using his hands to hold up two extremely feminine breasts. His helmet faded away so Samus could see his face, and his expression was a mixture of curiosity, disgust, amusement, and frustrated anger.

The tension broke all at once, and Samus began laughing, tears coming to her eyes. The light from Omega’s glowing core betrayed his approach before Samus’s own eyes could see him. The shocked feeling she got from him made her laugh even harder.

"A-a-a... Adam? You have... you have.... You can change your.... Are those.... Did Mother say some....DO NOT WANT! Twilight? Mother? Is that normal?"

“It most definitely is not!” Samus said between fits of laughter. She put her left arm on Omega’s shoulder and leaned against him, then patted his chest with the palm of her hand. “Damn it Adam, get rid of them already. It’s not like I can take my helmet off here and wipe my eyes!”

Adam crossed his arms, which was moderately challenging with the boobs in the way. The gesture did nothing but make them look bigger, so Adam grunted and put his arms down again.

“I would if I could! Squirt did this to me, the little twit!” he said with a scowl. “I’ve missed fondling things, for sure, but this is ridiculous!”

“Go get them fixed then, before you traumatize Omega and myself!”

“Traumatize you?! Hells bells, Lady, I’m the one with recently acquired female parts, who’s the really traumatized person here?!”

"I'm sorry,” Jenosa said as she finally saw what was going on, “but when did you become a transvestite during these two weeks of travel?"

“AUGH!!! It’s not my fault!!! I didn’t do it!! Fine! Lady, you hold onto this while I’m gone. I’m going to give Squirt a reckoning!”

Adam handed Samus his HFI. He waited until her left hand closed over the precious technology before he vanished. An instant later, he was in Ben’s ship. As soon as he found Squirt with the ship’s systems, he unceremoniously yanked her back into them.

“You, fix, now!” he said, pointing to the belugas on his chest. “Or so help me I’ll make you a tripod!”

Twilight watched with interest as Omega began to float up, when he hang in the air with his arms and legs limp he could see the resemblance to a "regular" metroid, perhaps it was unconcious? It was hard to tell for him, however what Omega said made him wonder. 'No eyes back then? Did he grow them afterwards? Or... Well I guess I should let him finish before I ask anything more.' He thought and then continued to listen to the metroid.

'Memories...' Twilight thought as he listened to Omega. He had no "good" memories of his... Home... Yet he had always felt he belonged there, in the darkest place of the universe, it was strange that he now nearly missed it after running away from it and had lived in the world of light for so long. Before he got the chance to ask anything more though Omega seemed to pickup something as he mentioned something about Samus being in a weird mood. Twilight merely nodded in confirmation of the metroids question.

As they walked across the surface of SR388 Twilight couldent help but remember the first time he had been here, the day had started badly with him getting an angry metroid on him, but somehow he felt that encounter had formed a bond between the two, very slight, but he felt it was still there. Maybe that was why he felt so intrigued by Omega? It was hard to tell.

Shortly after, they reached a cavern of some kind which they began to treck down, not long after Twilight could start to sense the trail of energy left by Samus power armor, which meant they were not far away, and that was only confirmed for him when they came around a corner to find the Hunter and her strange friend some distance away, though something seemed to be up as they got closer.

The first thing he noticed when they got close was that Samus seemed to be... Laughing, and then Omega started stuttering about something as he pointed at Adam, it was only then Twilight saw it. 'I thought he was male..? No wait he... or she... has a human male body, yet human female parts? Wait, he did not have those before... What is going on here?' Twilight thought, he was throughoutly confused, though he was not freaked out like Omega or finding it amusing as Samus, it just seemed odd to him. 'Oh well.' He thought as the man? disappeared after handing something to Samus. "So.. What was that about?" Twilight finally asked.

The dermal mender created a sensation on her skin that could only be described as "burning cold." It was one of the big hospital models, the kind that looked like an oversized microscope, or perhaps something you might see attached to a dentist's chair. Grace winced as Grifter guided the beam over her wounds, fusing the lacerated flesh together.

"So much for sugar and spice and everything nice," she said.

"You must be cautious around Admiral Narssek's mechanic," Grifter said. "Despite appearances, she is not of your species."

"Yeah, I kinda figured as much. So what the hell is she, anyway?"

"Ms. Evansworth - Aiko - is a parasite. Beyond that, I am afraid that I do not know much concerning her biology. What little I do know comes secondhand, and quite honestly, is little more than rumor."

"Parasite," Grace repeated, nodding.

Grifter switched off the dermal mender and checked her arm. The wounds had been completely healed, though the marks were still there, and probably would be for another few days. "Is it still burning?" he asked. "Often the pain will linger. If so, I could give you something to alleviate it."

Grace shook her head. "Me'n medication are a dangerous combination," she said. "Give me a bottle of pills and I'll start poppin' 'em like they're candy. Besides, it's really not that bad."

"I was referring to a localized hypodermic," Grifter replied. "But if you can tolerate it, then I will let you be."

Grace smiled at the pirate. She'd always liked Grifter, the voice of reason in a crew full of savage, bloodthirsty lunatics (and those were their positive qualities). He was older than his captain, though younger than Narssek, and his wisdom and experience were held in high regard by Cottonmouth, who considered him absolutely indispensable. He was a lot like Henry, in many ways.

And just like with Henry, she hated having to lie to him.

Her arm was throbbing.

The infection was starting to set in.

...............................

Cottonmouth sneered, angry that Narssek had the audacity to give him an order on his own ship. Still, the Admiral had instantly won his grudging respect by responding to a threat with a threat. Cottonmouth had expected him to approach him more as a businessman, offering some sort of transaction. Appeal to their lust for pillage and plunder. Instead, he engaged the Captain on his own level, speaking a language he understood.

"You would be wise to remember whose ship you are on, Admiral," the Captain said. To the Independents, ranks were a fuzzy thing. "Captain" really only meant you were leader of a ship and crew, and the only admirals were the tribal chieftains. Status beyond that was determined primarily by personal reputation. And few reps were bloodier than Cottonmouth's.

"I will speak with the Chieftain," the Captain said. "You've touched a nerve among my kinsmen. They are ready for blood."

...............................

The Barbarians were at the gates.

First the Visigoths arrived, their battle-scarred vessels jumping into the system one by one. Then the Vandals came. And the Huns, and the Gauls.

It was a fearsome sight, these disparate, monstrous warships gathering together in the vicinity of SR388, to say nothing of the heathen hordes on board. They had been brought together with the promise of slaughter and the spoils of war. And they were chomping at the bit.

Playing the part of the Romans, the crews of the Zebeth scout ships keeping an eye on the system were getting very nervous indeed.

Twilight, Samus, and Omega made their way down the caverns of SR388. It was as unlikely a trio possible. An Ing, a human, and a metroid? Certainly, it was a sign of disaster. Yet, these people were part of an equally unlikely alliance, friends even. Omega liked Twilight, and while Samus didn’t trust the Ing, she tolerated him for Omega’s sake.

While Adam was off presumably getting his avatar fixed, his three cohorts continued their quiet march downward. To Samus, this was an eerie form of deja-vu. This planet was as alien to her as she was to Twilight, and made her just about as comfortable.

She wasn’t exactly jumpy, for she knew what lurked in these tunnels, but she wasn’t relaxed either. Her senses were on high alert, completely aware of possible danger.

A dragon could be here.

Yet, if Athena and Calliope were around, Ridley couldn’t possibly still be around, could he? Samus couldn’t afford to make that assumption. She had learned the hard way in the past that Ridley was as crafty as a crow and sneaky as a serpent. No, she had to be on her guard. She was not metroid. She was not invincible. Ridley had hurt her more deeply than anyone ever had before. He had warped her into what she was now, forced her to walk a path she hadn’t wanted but had to follow after he killed her parents, her friends, and her innocence.

Samus’s mood was growing as dark as the cave surrounding them.

(OOC: Transcon, go ahead and have them arrive at the Queens. ^_^ Adam will jump back into the fray as soon as he gets fixed!)

“What’s a transvestite?”

Ben’s face turned red under his helmet. “You'll find out when you're-" though not old, she was already mature enough "-taller. C’mon, let’s catch up with the others.”

He and Lorrilal had fallen behind, since she had insisted on not wearing her suit. Although she had proven to him that the atmosphere wasn’t going to harm her, Ben was still reluctant.

They just managed to see the other three in the distance and he tried to read their postures. Of course, it was the equivalent of looking at two bowls of gelatin and a woman in a box. Omega and Twilight’s stances were going to be foreign to him, and Samus was wrapped in a big fancy suit, so it left plenty to the imagination. He couldn’t rely on his crewmember, Lorrilal. Again it was difficult to read her feelings about the given situation. The only person he could read was…himself.

And he was scared to death.

“How about you start by apologizing!” Squirt snapped back “or I’ll delete something this time, something you hold very dear.” She pulled up a chair and sat on it backwards. “Yanking me around like that. I’ve known some GIs to be immature, but you really crossed the line with that one.”

While Squirt had been referring to the communication ping earlier, she hadn’t even considered the fact that Adam would probably relate it to what he had done just now, but she was on too much of a role now to stop and elaborate.

“And a tripod? Don’t threaten me with image alterations mister. Your power could fit in a floppy diskette.” Adam’s hair grew two feet and rivaled that of every shampoo commercial. “I can corrupt anything I want without even a second thought.”

Squirt got up out of her chair and put her hands on her hips. “So are you going to apologize, or is everyone going to have to refer to you as Amanda from now on?”

Under the long hair and beyond the generous bosom, Adam was fuming. He had no patience or tolerance for this sort of abuse, and that was exactly what it was. Spurious was breaking unwritten rules by forcefully editing his avatar’s code, and not only did it piss Adam off, but he was deeply indignant. Spurious was being disrespectful, plain and simple, and what she was doing was wrong.

“I pulled you in here after you gave me boobs, and like hell I did anything to deserve that!” Adam spat, quite angry. “I have nothing to apologize for! I was yanked too! Go yell at Athena, for all the good that’ll do, if you want to get vindictive!”

He refused to touch the hair that fell into his eyes. It wasn’t like it interfered with his sense of sight; that was only possible with biologics. Adam was nearly rendered speechless by Spurious’s audacity.

“Now fix me, damnit. I did nothing wrong, and even if I did, messing with my avatar is like poking your nose in someone’s underwear drawer. It’s just plain rude!”

Jenosa blinked when Adam suddenly disappeared in a snap, momentarily bemused as to what had just happened. Then it hit her, and she smiled at her realization: he was just a hologram, albeit a relatively advanced one. She noticed that the guy was actually capable of holding stuff, so he was probably wasn't just an illusion completely made up of insubstantial light. That was probably one reason why she wasn't able to figure him out right away when she sensed the guy's energy. It had been vaguely familiar, but she wasn't able to put any figures on what he actually was until now.

Although she did not know the actual purpose of the hologram (A question that she decided was not really worth pursuing at the moment), she found the situation of this 'avatar' highly amusing.

However, the humor did not last long, being quickly replaced by a creeping, foreboding atmosphere. This actually disgruntled Jenosa a bit, not because of the loss of humor, but because she just hated this atmosphere in general. It also seemed to suit the caves that they were going in, which really didn't help. She was a person for danger, but disliked when the danger was foretold by this feeling.

Then again, she thought, who did like foreboding feelings.

In any case, this wasn't any reason for her to squabble over an aspect of 'life' that she had no control of. She needed to be alert, and, despite her disliking, the atmosphere did help with this. It actually got this small flow of adrenaline kicking inside of her brain, acting like "Caffeine-on-the-go" for her. It cleared her mind and made herself attentive towards everything around her, and while it wasn't the pulse pumping sensation, it was enough to jump start her intuitive, "on-the-fly" mind for danger.

And if one thing was obvious to her, it was the "odd-trio" (Twilight, Samus and Omega) was partially ignoring her. From the looks of it, their attention was mostly focused on one another, although she wasn't quite sure about Omega. With how his 'mind' was, being quite childish and young at times, she really didn't know if he was actually thinking about his 'mother' and TT.

Now, this was all fine for her, and to an extent, seemed understandable. She already knew from her experience on Mars that Samus appeared to be extremely edgy around TT, and from what he had told her, she thought she knew why. Although hadn't actually faced the Ing, she felt she had a fairly similar experience in terms of 'terror;' or at least facing it 'terror' down without pissing your pants.

Heck, she'd be extremely wary of a Scurge if it said it had "renounced its ways." (And she would probably have a very twitchy trigger finger if that was the case)

While paying good attention to her surroundings, she was unable perceive anything that could be of danger to her or the group; which was fine and dandy, since it wasn't like they were in danger yet (And she wasn't fricken psychic). Except it wasn't, as Jenosa had this nagging feeling in the back of her head, as if something was...amiss or odd, but no matter how much attention she paid, she could not identify this feeling.

Actually, she quickly realized it wasn’t her surroundings that were bothering her, but her suit. Heck, the nagging feelings was coming from the suit; in fact, now that she thought about, she expected to have the company of her trusty A.I., Magellan, with her. While the group she was with was capable of communication, you never knew when your communications could be cut or made difficult. They could be separated, have static interference or there could be some sort of jamming device; either way, it was always good to have a buddy who’s communication with you would be extremely difficult to disrupt, as well as a useful informant for objects and anomalies she didn’t recognize (Or didn’t have the scientific background to explain jack squat).

Magellan, however, had been dead for months, possibly destroyed or corrupted when her infection re-awakened. Hell, she didn’t know what had happened to the program, only which it was no longer responding to her commands. She would have gotten a new program, but she had no clue how to install it in the suit.

As she continued with the group, little did she know the program had always been active, only that its behavior had changed. Changed in a way that it was no longer an individual A.I., responding like an individual but bearing no real free will, but as an actual part of Jenosa’s mind.

Well, except until now.
