Even as the energy attack was hurled towards him Ra was already moving, shifting to one side to avoid the attack before going after the creature again. It had now shrugged off two attacks which should have killed it outright, and except for the frustrated scream it showed no signs of even having noticed Ra’s attack. Despite all appearances to the contrary, he knew he was the underdog in this fight.

Feinting left with the sword, stabbing it at the creature’s shoulder Ra quickly reversed his grip, pulling back and throwing a punch at its head. If the sword hadn’t hurt it then he doubted it would even feel his punch, but he needed it to keep focused upon him. Disengaging now meant it would probably begin heading for the ruins once more, trying to beat him to their target. The Ar’c wouldn’t last long against it and they still had their hands full dealing with the retreating Federation forces.

An all too familiar voice echoed two questions in the back on his mind. “How did it know he wasn’t human? and why hadn’t the Ar’c leader detonated the explosive collar the second he had ran directly from the gun battle?”

---------

The detonator in question was held in the Ar’c commander’s hand, still held by the bloodless charred fingers of its right arm. A few meters away, resting with its back to the burning hulk of the tank, the commander feverishly tried to reload it rifle one handed. It had been blasted clear from the tank when the explosive hit, badly burning most of its flesh and driving jagged shrapnel through the wide cracks in its armour. Along with its arm, it could feel that several of its organs had been ruptured by the jagged shards of metal which had been driven into his body. It was lucky to be alive much less conscious and still fighting.

Managing to slam a new magazine into the weapon the commander dragged itself upright and propped the weapon against one of the upturned tank’s sponsoons . Spotting a target half hidden in the smoke, a screaming figure staggering through the smoke ablaze, it braced itself and let loose a short burst of rounds. The enemy soldier dropped, silenced as several of the rounds removed his head from his shoulders. The commander couldn’t help but sneer, these were supposed to be killers? They were an utter joke, toy soldiers playing at war.

Like most of its kind, it had often looked down on the Commonwealth’s other forces. Species too weak to fight as its kind did, either stayed aboard their ships or hid behind inches of folded titanium armour, but at least they were capable of putting up a fight.

Another figure moved up behind the commander, half turning its head it caught sight of another of the commandos, thankfully in better shape than him. The Ar’c’s shoulders rotated and shifted, making a brief insult about the Federation defenders’ abilities in their species’ language, sharing the commander’s opinion of their fleeing enemies. A series of sporadic shots came back from out of the ruins, causing the Ar’c to dive into cover next to the commander, promptly shutting it up.
Letting loose another burst of gunfire at the fleeing Federation troops, something occurred to the commander. It had assumed one of the heavy weapons which had been used against them had been brought to bear upon the tank and used to destroy it, but it seemed wrong. The impacts the weapons had upon the APC’s had simply punched right through them, creating fist sized holes within the armoured chaises, not struck them with enough force to blow them skywards.

There had also been no bright flash of light or any sign of the energy weapons from the Federation troops, in fact the blast seemed to have struck them from the side rather than the vehicles front.

Peering up over the edge of the burning wreck, the commander glanced about the areas to their right before signalling the escort speeder to pull back to his position. With most of their foes routed the last thing they needed was for a flanking force to launch an attack and wipe them out. Or for any surviving soldiers to be left alive to continue attacks against them. Still firing at the ruins and laying down cover for the surviving commandos, the speeder came to a halt next to the commander, two other Ar’c clinging onto its hull and occasionally snapping off shots.

A minute later it was climbing up the sand dunes, heading after Veolant’s group, the crew scanning for any sign of them as the Ar’c finished pushing forwards and began to pour inside the ruins...

(I have deleted DA's post with his permission. Let's start this scene over.)

Hunched over on the roof of the Arctic Storm was a Zebesian, working a cutting laser on the hull, which had already left an ugly scar on the ship. The hole was far from finished, but it would have to be patched up before they left the atmosphere. When Travis appeared, the Pirate's head snapped up and he stood up to his full height. Even for a Pirate, he was huge. In a split second, faster than Pirates could usually move, he was upon Travis, his energy scythe stopping a few millimeters from the Hunter's visor, ready to plunge through and into his skull.

Spider. The second bodyguard.

"Give me the weapon and I shall leave!" he growled. Both of them head each other dead to rights. If there was a loud noise in the hangar, it was likely both of them would be dead.

Behind Clark, Spider saw Jenosa emerge from the hatch. His gaze shifted to the woman, then back to the armored hunter. His eyes narrowed, and then he activated his cloak, becoming a shimmer in the air. A series of energy blasts emitted from the shimmer, fired straight up in the air and hitting the lights. No cloaking device was perfect - not even the Chozo had managed that - but it would be much more difficult to track him in the dark.

........................

"Hey... hey lady" Rex said, peeking out of his cell, trying to get Alana's attention. "Hey, what's your name?"

Travis growled as a shower of sparks went over the ceiling as the massive Zebesian vanished into the darkness, lurching his legs back and spring-boarding himself back onto his feet. He had been shot at, harassed and almost blown up all day.

And it was starting to annoy him a bit.

"Okay, shellhead. You want to do things that way.... your choice." He spoke as he pressed a button to activate sound tracking; it wouldn't be perfect but at least it would help with locating him.

"I've killed a lot of Zebesians like you just so you know, but you're the first other then one ballsy enough to come up to my ship and damage the hull."

Hopefully he would take the bait, though Travis doubted it.

"So, is your boss that pissed off he lost the bet? The way I hear it he's a poor sport." His voice echoed through the hangar, the hunter constantly checking his sectors for any disturbances in the sound field. Left, right, angles, up, down....

"A real chickenshit if I ever knew one, indeed. I mean who sends an assassin after a bounty hunter.... oh wait, everyone. Still, how much is he paying you? 10,000? 100,000? He's giving you chicken feed you know, in all likelihood. But hey, you're still getting paid."

(I'll get under your skin eventually, buddy.) Travis thought to himself, still hoping that he could avoid using thermal vision; his ship gave off quite the heat signature uncloaked although the room itself wasn't hot. He didn't want the zebesian figuring out he had an advantage and didn't know it.

Alissa had been standing on the empty rooftop quietly a moment before turning her attention back across the street towards the hotel. She had been maintaining radio silence as a matter of habit. However given the attack, followed by the sudden departure of the body guard, and the fact that even with a stop at her ship to gear up she had beat the rest of the team there she decided a bit of communication was best. She opened the com to the channel she had shared with the others in time to catch the tail end of the exchange between Z'Gato and Omega, remaining silent till the rest of it had passed.

“when you two are finished discussing personal matters....we have a job to do, I've made contact with one of the bodyguards.”

Her tone was annoyed, she expected a level of professionalism from this group which at the moment she was not getting. Discussions about who was or was not dead should be saved for latter, when they had dealt with the person who had attempted to make them all dead.

(OOC: This post is mainly for Jefe; I'll try to get to G79 when I have more time to spare)

It took Jenosa a moment to recognize that the xeno's Travis was already having a face off with was in fact a Zebesian, having grown up in a region of space mostly isolated and unknown to the pirates at the time. She had only fought a small handful of them in her life, which included the group she had rescued Omega from, and while she was mildly aware they had a military group of the sort, she saw them mostly like any other ruthless xeno she encountered. That being said, she had a good feeling that this guy was one of Delcroix's body guard's Rex had described, drawing both her firearms and her muscles becoming tense as soon as she found herself encompassed by darkness. This guy's good, she remarked with a tinge of respect, the pirate's quick, tactical reflex being a hallmark of a professional. There was no doubt about it that Delecroix didn't hire amateurs, and that made her briefly wonder if that might be the reason for Alissa's radio silence. But she wasn't about to worry about a complete stranger, even, strangely enough, would like to see her face again; right now her survival was priority.

Her body was taught and tense, and even more so found herself blending her humans sense along with the use of her sixth sense. Already did the sudden darkness cause her to instinctively amplify and sharpen her sixth sense that it made her feel even more alien; she was thankful for what it allowed her to detect, yes, but the use of it still made her uncomfortable. Not that it was omnipresent, as she could only sense and occasionally see active energy within a radius of a few feet. If she was going to defend herself form any attack, she was going to have to be alert and quick about it.

As for Travis, well, she smiled at how he was trying to goad Spider into giving away his location; even if it didn't work, which it probably wouldn't, it was still worth it just for the insult.

-----

Alana blinked at the prisoner they had taken, recalling his name was Rex. She raised a wary eyebrow at his question, “Alana. Are you just trying to start a conversation with a lady or is there something you want?”

Dreams of a Legacy

The creature folded his arms and listened carefully to the Creator's reply. He absentmindedly scratched at his forearm where three bone spikes jutted out from the side beneath the elbow. It may have appeared to be an itch, but really, he was just thinking.

"I don't dream," he answered matter-of-factually. "But, I do have memories. Its hard to live knowing that we'll go extinct. So, make the best of it, right? Be remembered for more than bad things. Be remembered for good things.

"So... chrrr...," he let the low trill fade as pain started to wash over his body; making it twitch and shiver as if he had been struck by the very cold of an ice weapon. "Memories... I remember.... No, not now. You are right. Find Alissa. Find Della Kroy."

Omega-Alpha then straightened himself out to his full height, stretching and arching himself to almost eight feet high. He craned his neck and peered about again while his tail wagged up and down. A friendly smile then appeared on his face as he looked back down at Z'Gato.

"I'm glad to meet you," he said in mid-ranged tones. "Growing is good."

Z'Gato finally nodded towards the creature after is spoke, the Chozo warrior feeling a small glimmer of hope in his heart before sealing it away. Z'Gato's stance seemed to relax for a moment, but as soon as the moment came, it faded away as the warrior started walking towards Alissa's location, waving Omega-Alpha to follow. Now that they had a location, they could proceed without aimlessly wandering around the city, which made Z'Gato eager to continue their hunt. At this point, Z'Gato finally closed the communication channel, preferring a moment to think in solitude for a moment as he led the way.

The crowds did not seem to thin out at all since their detour and discussion, though the stares the both of them drew did not fade away either. Z'Gato's body language seemed to take on a more aggressive feel to it, attempting to wordlessly intimidate anyone from getting in their way, but he already knew that the way they stuck out would certainly allow their enemies to track them far easier. Even if they had decided to don disguises, the outcome likely would be the exact same, since Z'Gato was the last of a dying race, and the creature was...well, otherworldly.

Eventually, Z'Gato and Omega arrived at their destination no worse for wear, though the amount of people that had seen them would likely make tracking their movements easier for Delacrox, no doubt. Z'Gato's heads-up-display quickly informed him of Alissa's proximity, and no doubt Alissa would have detected them at this point as well. Z'Gato finally looked around for any sign of the woman but saw none, only to look up at one of the buildings and nod his head. She was likely above, getting a better view of the environment around their target, and Z'Gato contemplated joining her in order to take in the view himself, though if it was like any other urban city on an industrialized world, the view would not be that impressive.

Still. Z'Gato motioned to Omega and pointed at the roof of the building they were next to. Z'Gato assumed they could probably find a way up either from the inside or one of the fire escape ladders on the outside, though he noted that warriors from his race could sometimes acquire upgrades in order to jump longer distances and in some cases, be able to almost jump continually to insane altitudes. This was not Z'Gato's case, however, and he led the way towards a fire escape ladder which led up the side of the building towards the roof, which the warrior began to climb. For some, climbing such ladders and stairs would be tiring work, but for Z'Gato who had gone through extensive physical training in order to perfect himself into a true warrior, found this particular obstacle more time-consuming rather than tiring.

Soon enough, Z'Gato emerged onto the building and immediately spotted Alissa there as well. "What have you discovered?" Z'Gato questioned.

(OOC: if you don't mind Shin'ra, I'm going to take a few liberties. Tell if they're all right)

The 'creature' thst Ra fought, formally called Nausewell Bondier in close combat was, actually held great concern for the scientists withion the ruins. After all, he both had certain obligations to them, but also...a certain kinship. He would not all them to perish, not on his own watch. He needed to get back, but it was clear this mindless android was not going to leave him alone; he knew if they tangoed too long, not only would he take too much damage (The blows had done more damage than it appeared), the more in danger the scientists would be. the android was faster and stronger than him, a fact that was very frustrating; people always thought faster and stronger were always better.

Behind his shattered helm he leered and spoke, "Not a...talkative character...fine...then I'll make you permently mute." As soon as the android's sword impact his body again, Nausewell's arm shot out at a speed that had been far faster than the rest of his movement. his hand slammed into the android's neck so hard it felt like another android had done it. It was enough to slam him to the ground; his grip was like a vice, and he was going to seer that stupid ne-

Nausewell seemed to pause, looking at the android with a sudden bemused expression, and said, "An explosive...collar?"

It was enough of a moment that allowed the android to punch him in the face and caused Nausewell to loose his grip. Nausewell staggered momentarily, and saw the android quickly getting up for another strike. He hissed; he had enough of this. Improvising, Nausewell stomped his foot at the android's direction, and with a small, white flash, the sand exploded in the android's face. And the sand particles didn't just get into his eyes, it shot strait through the retinas, destroying his optical sensors and leaving it blind.

It was enough to allow Nauswell to avoid the dangerous blow and give him the opportunity to punch him in the neck. It certainly took him by surprise, and it was the break he needed. Before quickly bounding, he spoke, "You may be...of use to me later...hound. For now, I have obligations to uphold. I will garantee we will meet again."

Nausewell was off running.
----

The entrance that Veolant and his group were trying to open suddenly began sliding on it's own accorde. Out of the flickering coridors came a disombodied voice like the door itself had a mouth, "In, NOW!"

There was some stunned silence before a technician who had been hidden by the door came out and ushered, "Well don't just stand there like the place is haunted. You heard the AI, IN!"

**detecting two life forms ascending the building, scans indicate nonhuman; no matching signature in Database**

came the warning from her suit, Alissa turned and watched as Z'gato and Omega reached the roof. Her suit scanned then of course, though the programing focused more on finding weaknesses than determining what they were, either way no one from the NGC had encountered either race which meant all the computer could do was guess, and these are not enemies.

"What have you discovered?" came the rather terse question from Z'gato.

Something about the question, or the way it was asked got under the operative's skin. Maybe it was the tone, maybe it was because it came across as an order, the warrior did sound more like a field commander demanding a status update than a fellow hunter working on the same job. And then there was the delay; Alissa left after the pair, had to goto her ship to fetch weapons and armor, and still managed to reach the location first, get shot, thrown off the roof, and climb back up....all in the time it took Z'Gato to have an existential argument with Omega.

Alissa reached up removing the sleek black helmet looking towards Z'gato quietly a moment “I” she said laying emphasis on the first word “ Observed that the room is empty, scans indicate no one is there” she said advancing towards the pair “ I learned that one of Delacroix's body guards is capable of stealth enough not to be detected by suit scanners, I learned that she is augmented, faster and stronger than she had any business being, I learned that they field Armor piercing rounds in hand guns. I learned that a jolt from a stun baton that is made for handling creatures your size was not enough to knock her out, and I learned that she was strong enough to throw me off this roof”

She pointed a finger at Z'gato “ you claim to be a hunter, a warrior or what ever you like to call your self, I expect a certain level of decorum based on that, a level of professionalism, instead while some one who you are supposed to be working with is in battle, you have an argument about who is or is not alive or dead, along with a nice discussion about the pains of being the last of something on an open com” she took a breath “ and then you saunter up here and demand a status report as if I work for you not with you. You do not think much of me which is fine as you have not worked with me and know nothing of my abilities, however you demand respect you have not earned.”

she pulled the helmet back on moving towards the side of the building facing the hotel “ your ego endangered a life today, focus on the job at hand, consider your place in the universe on your own time”

and just like that Alissa slipped back to her much more neutral self “I also noticed something odd about the bodyguard....her eyes flashed, I'm starting to think that is a popular mod around here.”

she studied the hotel I suggest we enter the room and see if we can find a lead, no on is there it is a good opportunity”

Z'gato gave a gesture to the roof of a building without a word. Instinctively, Omega-Alpha followed the wall of the apartment building up to the ledge. It was only about thirty feet up. As the Chozo started the climb up the fire escape, inevitably clanking and rattling the metallic ladders and stairs, the creature leaped at the wall, set his feet, and leaped again. The second leap's trajectory changed in mid-jump while somersaulting as he landed on the wall again.

The bony protrusions on his body hummed like electricity as he span through the air with each jump. For only a moment while his feet were planted and ready to launch him again, it was as though he was glued to the brick structure. His head snapped upward to see where the next jump would send him. He was wall-jumping.

Finally landing on the roof as he skid to a halt leaving talon marks on the hard tarred surface, he planted himself on all fours just as Z'Gato stepped over the last rung of the ladder. He flashed a small toothy smile at the warrior as Alissa marched over to greet them.

Okay, so he was showing off for a Creator, a friend. In a way, not only was this his first chance to actually give a hint as to what he was physically capable of to a Chozo, but he was actually seeking praise in a very small way. Metroids were something that the Chozo had initially designed. He was a second generation Metroid and had endured quite a bit in his very short life. In short, he was displaying how much he had grown and was hoping that this Chozo would approve.

Granted, on the other hand, he knew that this Chozo knew nothing about the denizens of SR388 and the act was probably pointless.

As Alissa essentially read Z'Gato the riot act on how to be a professional, Omega caught the whiff of something that interested him. While a one-sided conversation assaulted the senses, he walked on all fours over to the area where the NGC operative had her violent encounter. The red slits widened very slightly as he looked over the spot on the roof. He could smell human blood and sweat. There were the scuff marks from where metal hit roof-sheet asphalt. Then, there was the strange trace of an energy pattern; an energy pattern that caused the fleshy armor-skin on his back to lift like hackles on a rooster.

All the while, he was listening to the tongue lashing in progress. He did find it interesting that she decided to verbally assault the Warrior rather than a primal barbarian. It confused him as to even why she would say such things in the first place. It just seemed... alien.

"Yet, you went alone," he reminded Alissa as he was literally sniffing the area where the struggle took place. "Leather and rubber and smoke all over you. It is fresh. You are lucky to survive this fight.

"Learn crew if work together," he advised as he stood back up and laced his fingers while walking between Z'Gato and Alissa. Omega kept his shoulders pointed at either of them yet he kept his head low. "You know us now. We find time to know you, unless you want to work by yourself. Next time, you won't be lucky.

"I smell Phazon." Omega didn't want to knock another person on their butt again today. It was almost becoming tradition. It worked on Samus, it worked on Z'Gato. He didn't want to see if it worked on Alissa, but he would instinctively find out if she kept verbally riding him.

At the very least, he hoped that presenting a clue at this point would distract the both of them.
