Like the title says, if you've got a general question that needs to be answered, ask away here! I'll start us off with... I really want to get myself a high-quality digital camera, but when I finally got around to surfing Amazon.com, I stumbled across these two that I really liked: Canon Digital Rebel XT (8 MP) Canon Digital Rebel XTi (10.1 MP) ...I just don't know if I really want to spend that kind of money on them. Its not that I CANT buy them, I can, but I don't know if it would be worth it. Suggestions? Opinions? |

Unfortunately I dont know much about digital cameras at all, other than that they take pictures ^^; But great idea for a thread. I'd like to ask wheter anyone knows what might be the problem if you are the only account on a computer, yet you still dont have the rights to open the control panel or change the background and general layout stuff (I cant even open the properties for these things). Am I missing something? (I dont think its a virus or such atleast, ZoneAlarm is prety good at finding viruses and spyware) |

Curon: I'd get the higher megapixel camera. It'll take higher definition images, but there are pros and cons with having such large files. The main benefit is that you can print your photos out without them having that 'digital' feel to them, but you'll have to invest in a very large and expensive memory card. A single photo with a 10mp camera is probably going to be between 3-4MB in size, depending on the resolution you use. Therefore, you'll need a big card. I'd read the reviews- the negative ones. I hardly ever read the positive ones unless they're detailed. You'll discover the true nature of the beast if you read the negative ones. Twilight: The answer is simple, your personal account on your system isn't the admin account. At the login screen, type "administrator" in the user profile, and either "administrator" or "password" as the password. Hopefully that'll get you in. You can also go to the Control Panel > User Accounts > Change an Account and try to set your account as the adminstrative account, although it might not let you. Good luck! Oh... and reduce the width of your signature if you can. It screws up the forum margins. O.o |

Canon Rebels, eh, Curon? Now you're treading into the zone where Pika-Mama specializes in... XD;;; She also has a Rebel, but it's one of the higher ended ones, the ones that go for $1600+ but she can get them for at least half the price... XP Here, this is where she gets her cameras and other digital goods: B&H Photo Video or Samy's Cameras. Though, the best time to get those deals are around holidays... Perhaps Fourth of July might be one of them... ^^; Anyways... I showed her the two you were looking at, but she suggests this particular one? Reason she says this one is because it's the only one with the IS (Image Stablizing) feature that the other two you posted lacked. It might run you a hundred or two more, but the pictures come out much better, and you don't need to worry too much about your pictures coming out so blurred... She also says to buy a nice hefty protective bag for that piece of equipment... >>;;; |

If I'm not mistaken, my family owns a Canon Digital Rebel, I'm not sure what kind, but if you give me a while to ask my dad some questions about it I should have more details if you're interested (he's at work right now so it'd have to wait until tomorrow ^^) |

*Whistles* Nicer Camera, but again, I don't know if I want to fork over that kind of money...but I do need something a bit more powerful when it comes to photography, instead of the cheap 1.5mp camera my parents got me last year for Christmas... I'll definately think about it. Tell your Pika-Moma (does she play Pokemon? o__O?) that I said thank you! |

It is definitely more powerful, but if you don't want to fork over so much money but want a decent camera that can fit in your pocket, Sammy's or B&H might have something in the 8 MP range for under $200, maybe a Sony Cybershot or an Olympus. Though, you might also want to try Canon's Powershot line. I have a Powershot myself and it's really decent considering that it is my second digital cam and running 8 MP also. And no, she doesn't play Pokemon. She just loves Pikachu... XD;;; She ends up calling us her little Pika-Pikas. So online, we refer to her as Pika-Mama since we have a lack of better nicknames ^^; |

Thanks to LT.J's awesome advice, I finally broke down and got a Canon PowerShot 5S IS, for about 350 bucks. I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE this camera, especially the nice zoom on it. I wanted a Canon more than anything mostly because of the cool accessories you can buy later on, but now, I feel complete. I'm going to go hogwild with this thing, and with a 4GB memory card? That's almost 1000 pictures!! WOO HOO! Back to the relevance of this thread, I'm now starting to think about a new laptop or desktop computer. Something powerful enough to support the next wave of awesome video games (not to mention for school work and general internet zannyness), so anyone got any suggestions? |

I've got one, is it (on average) cheapter to repair a laptop's broken screen or replace the laptop? To cut a long story short a stranger managed to break the laptop's screen by crashing into me and now I have to take it to be looked at by a few 'experts' but I just want to know if anyone has any advice on the subject here and now. |

Curon, whatever you do, do not go for Dells or Gateways. They suck for gaming and only good for everyday things... For gaming laptops, you might want to consider looking into HP (Though I LOATHE their customer service), Acer (It's a decent company, but has a few issues here and there), or Sony (The best by far, but also the most expensive of the three). Gaming systems usually come with high-ended graphic cards, almost all current systems running NVidia Mobles or something similar due to Vista's standards at roughly 3.2 GHz or higher. Of course, the faster the processor can run, the more money it's gonna cost, but a 2.9 ~ 3.2 GHz processor is enough to run most games on mid to mid-high settings. Go anything above that, and you'll be experiencing a ton of lagging. Also, MOST systems now come standard with 2 Gb RAM while the hard drive can run anywhere from 120 Gb to 350 Gb for standard now. Again, the higher you go, the more money that needs to be shelled out. Screens come usually with XBrite tech or the like (Sony has a new one, but I'm not familiar with it quite yet...), and they're mostly, if not always, widescreens, which isn't too bad considering you can see more on the horizontal plane of games. Sizes range from 15 ~ 19 inches diagonally, some 21, but those things are pretty heavy. So, we're talking maybe about anywhere from $1000+, especially for Sony. HOWEVER, if you wait around Thanksgiving, you might be able to catch one of their limited editions for under $800 (I kid you not!). Try looking into the CR, NS, and FW series. Desktops I'll have to get back to you on that since I know for sure HP came out with their Blackbird gaming rig (About $2400+ if I remember the price correctly) and a few others have their big rigs also coming in. I'll need to cross reference them to see what ones are the best at the moment and for the long run. When it comes to buying systems, it's sort of a fact that you might pay a little more now, but in the long run, it's worth it and the computer would already have been used up to it's full potential (maybe more) by the time you need a new system. I've had Celestial (Main PC, Sony Viao RS series, around $1600 paid but market price was $2400; one of the limited editions I mentioned earlier that Sony tends to have at random times of the year) for about 5 or 6 years now, and she's still running near perfectly. I have a few friends who are also asking about laptops too, so I'll have Pika-Mama pull up a list of what she's found. Just a big waiting game you know? Actually, now that I think about it, in my family, we have like... 4 limited editions (1 PC, 3 laptops), high-ended systems for extremely low prices... XD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shin-Ra, it depends on if your laptop is still under warranty. If it is, it should be little to no cost. If not, we're talking about $400 to $500 for repairs, in which case I would suggest looking into getting a new laptop. |
