HEY! Okay, so I've been at basic for a few weeks. Turns out I'm actually 11X, which apparently means I can become either 11B (regular infantry) or 11C (indirect fire/mortars). I also found out that a mortar base plate is not 120 pounds. A complete mortar weighs between 48 and 60 pounds with the base plate.

Oh, and my platoon, which is considered the worst in the company, has one day left of red phase. We passed our bay inspection, and all but the two guys getting chaptered out and a sick guy who is really screwed up got a 4 hour pass. We can't go very far, but we can buy any food we want (as long as it's gone when we get back). I had my first bottle of soda in a month.

Okay, now, anyone want to send me letters? Here's my address:

441 PFC Umholtz
D CO 2/58 INF REGT (TF 3/47 IN)
192nd INF BDE
Bldg 3210 5480 Roush Drive
Ft. Benning, GA 31905-4926

To keeps things simple, if you want to send more than just a letter, send some pictures. But remember, pictures have to be approved by my DS or SDS.

EDIT: I put in my brigade number, just to be safe. Though, there's only one building 3210 on base, and only one D 2/58 at that building.

Damn, I had no idea you were at Fort Benning! That's only 3 hours from me. I've spent a few days down in Columbus/Phenix City, so if you want to hang out, shoot me an email (aiko AT geckolair DOT com)! I don't know if/when you're allowed to leave base yet, but I could certainly swing down for a weekend if you want company.

My cousin finished basic training at Fort Benning this past August, so I have a decent idea of the base's layout. He's stationed at Fort Gordon right now.

So, the realm of geniuses... genii? However you spell it, it just got shaken up quite a bit.

Einstein, Hawking and Gates have all just been outclassed in the brains department... by a little 11-year-old English girl named Victoria Cowie.

She has an IQ of 162. And she wants to be a vet. Those animals are going to be in good hands.

Wow. That's like, 161 higher than mine. Pretty impressive.

I'm gonna take a guess from our past conversation and call SHROOOOOOOMS! The fact that you're smiling must mean you're already high j/k.
"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."

Hehe, but what kind of mushroom? Here's a hint... they're only up for maybe 1-2 weeks out of the year, and only in the spring. These things are super expensive, since they can't be cultivated. In some areas, these guys go for $40 a pound (dry weight)!

Woah... Are those like those truffles used in high-end cooking that ultimately end up jacking the price of said food item if a lot of it is used in making it?
