Just so you guys know, in my region of Canada (Quebec), we have a mildly different school systems from some other provinces. College and University are indeed two different things here (College also being known as a CEGEP in french). One here often goes to college before heading to university. But in any case, I did the same thing, and back in my CEGEP days, every year there was a creative writing contest. I believe I've mentioned this before of course, I should note that I try to pitch into the contest whatever I've written up; and honestly, I was never interested in the money. More over, though, is that all the submissions are normally then compiled and binded into a - oh what do you call it - a 'binded' book. Not necessarily a book itself, but rather several printed, loose pages bound together by a black binding. Now, when I sent in my own stuff, the contest was long over, but it was still acceptable to hand in my work to be published into this years 'Soundings,' as it's called. I was quite glad I had the chance to do that. Now, just after checking my E-mails, I got a message from the very teacher in charge of the contest. Getting my attention, I checked it out, and apparently, there were so many incredible submissions that the Soundings of 2010 are being published as an actual book (At least that's what I'm getting at from the E-mail). And now I'm invited to the book launch, which is completely within my schedual. Yaaaaaay! *Feels extremely proud for contribution* |

Nice, you be sure to keep a record of that happening. Publishers like it when you list things like that when you're submitting a manuscript, it really increases your chances. |

Cemp, that's awesome! Congratulations! So, I'm in Utah for my Wildlife Society conference. I've been having a blast. Today I climbed up a ridiculously steep shale field in the Rocky Mountains trailing after a herd of bighorn sheep (which I saw), then I had to slide down by hopping from foot to foot or sliding on my butt, and I gashed my hand open on a rock and I almost needed stitches and I bled all over the place and... it was AWESOME! Think about the story behind that scar! Because it's definitely going to be a scar. It bled for 6 hours until I could finally get a bandaid and butterfly it closed. Man, I love this scar already. Totally better than the scar I have on my other hand from walking the dog on an icy driveway. |
