Another W00t to those of us that play Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War... The third and final expansion has been announced: Dawn of War: Soulstorm! New playable races are the Dark Eldar and the Sisters of Battle! WHOOOO! The campaign is like that of Dark Crusade, but spanning multiple planets this time, and with controllable aerial units! I. Am. Happy. |

I need to get Dawn of War... find out what all the hype is about. Oh yeah... my w00t. Getting a PC upgrade soon, to 1GB of RAM, and hopefully a new graphics card. My stupid computer only has a 4x AGP slot, so finding a graphics card that's both good and works with my computer is a bit of a hassle

I think you can buy the Platinum Edition of Dawn of War in most stores that sell games. It should have The first one and the two expansions that are out so far.

I played winter assault(or whatever it was called) on a (prety much) piece of crap PC, so I dont think you need a super graphics card Nightclaw, but if your motherboard is old and you need to get a new graphics card and stuff maybe you should get a new pc all togheter :/ |

DoW isn't very graphic intense, but it still looks good. That's what I love about it. And yes, maybe you should invest in a better motherboard or PC altogether first... just a thought. |

Well, um... this is sort of an unusual woot. You guys all know of my recent graduate school issues, and of my subsequent struggle to salvage the data the former graduate student measured as well as my job. I've managed to recover about 2/3rds of the data. I have about 80% from 2004 and 2005, and pretty much 0% from 2006. For what it's worth, I know officially 'own' all of the data, which means that any publications that result from this study will have my name attached as a primary or secondary author. That's a bonus, especially since I know it's going to be a statistical nightmare once I get to analyzing these data. I have unequal sample sizes up the whazoo, and SAS (my stats program) complains loudly when this happens. I'm not a statistician by any stretch of the word, but I have a feeling this dataset is going to force me to get comfortable with the math involved. So that's the brief summary of the past two weeks. Today my professor said he went and talked to the dean about hiring a Masters student to work with me. The dean said yes, so now he's trying to get permission from some other people in my school to do so. This would royally kick ass if I could get a graduate student working under me. Not only would I get a free technician for the summer, but I'd be a second author on anything he publishes. I get the recognition for minimal writing effort, which is always a huge plus. This doesn't even mention the fact that it would look fantastic on my resume to say I oversaw a Masters student's work, since that's essentially what faculty do. That was another weird thing. My professor came up to me yesterday and asked me if I was interested in being a professor myself when I graduated. I kind of stuttered my way through the answer and finally told him that I haven't really given it much thought, since I'll be so desperate for a job when I graduate I'll probably say yes to the first people willing to hire me. Perhaps I'm looking too deeply into it, but it would be super nice to know I had a job before I graduated. So yeah, there's my long winded woot. >.> |

The actual motherboard itself is pretty good. It's a 2.7 GHz P4, the only problem is that it only has support for two 512mb RAM sticks and an AGP graphics card. It runs Half-Life 2 alright, except for some major slowdown during the cutscenes in Episode Two, which I think is more of a RAM issue than anything. And the main problem with getitng a new PC is A: I don't have the money to get one and B: my dad's too cheap to get a new one and thinks this one is fine. Edited by Bloody Pom, Jan 25 2008, 06:07 PM.

HL2-Ep.2 gives me some lag spurts too. I'd say the biggest thing is RAM for that setup, but that's just from the info you gave me (I don't know what exactly the card is, so... :p) Also, Congrats Aiko! That's pretty cool! |

It's an ATI Radeon 9000, 128MB of graphics RAM. Good enough for most stuff but it's aging faster than any of my other hardware. Anyway, new thing. So I reactivate my WoW account (thank God you can, the activation code only works once), install it, start playing, and guess what I find out: one of the girls next door plays it. Wow... and I thought players were few and far between in antipodea... Edited by Bloody Pom, Jan 26 2008, 01:01 AM.
