Well, the time has come to switch from being a temp, making $11 an hour, to a full Kohler employee. A Kohler employee working at the same position as I do starts out at $12.80 an hour, with an additional $0.45 an hour if they work second shift like I do, meaning I'm about to get a $2.25 per hour raise after only four months.

Also, apparently the folks on Blue team don't do things quite the same as we do on Red team. Both the guy from Red 1 (Red team, first shift) and I work at the first two presses for toilet seats, and even though one of my machines is currently working an order for night light seats, which take a little more work than usual (a second label on each seat's box, and we have to build our own hinges), I'm able to handle it with no problem... Which was a surprise for the two guys who relieved me this morning.

For context: The days and nights Red team doesn't work are the days and nights Blue team works, and vice versa. This week, Red has Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and next week it's just Wednesday and Thursday.
Since my liver is larger than my heart, does that mean I'm designed to drink more and care less?

Happy for you, Alk. :)

You've been through a lot in the last year. Glad to see things going well for you.

The past couple years, actually. With this sort of pay increase, I might even be able to pay off the car this year, and I made my first payment on it last March.

Of course, that'll have to wait until after I get my new rifle out of layaway, and also after I actually get through this process.

I have orientation at Kohler on Monday, meaning that next Wednesday I should start making that $13.25/hr.

Given that I have three nights of overtime scheduled for April, I should make over $3k next month, before taxes and such. I'd done the math, and I should make over $800 (before taxes) for each week I have overtime, aside from next week. The pay period starts before I have orientation.

Either way, that's not too shabby, especially when you consider that I'll be making considerably than half of the average household income for this state by myself. If I were to get married to someone with a similar income to mine, we'd probably be able to buy a house with some land with little trouble.

That's awesome, Alk! Pretty sure that 13.25 does much better where you are than it does here in NJ!

Happy for you, man. :)

Yeah, Arkansas has a pretty low cost of living, compared to more heavily populated states.

We got wi-fi at my house now! Woo!

Granted, I won't be playing online because it's satellite internet, and we only get 20gb a month, but I'm not really a big multiplayer guy anyway. I'll probably use it for getting DLC or Minecraft updates. It's a damn sight better than the 28.8k dialup internet we had from '05-'08.

Apparently, the company has done some research in the area to see what other companies pay employees for the same jobs, and since the pay rates here were a bit lower than average across the board, everyone is getting a raise.

So an operator, which is what I do, will go from making $12.80/hr (with that extra $0.45/hr for second shift) to $14.08... Or $14.53 in my case.

The only downside is that I have to wait until the end of June or the beginning of July, as that would be the end of my 90-day probationary period. At least, I think they calculate it from the day of my orientation.
