I never said I wasn't going to, though. Still, one of the red flags mentioned in the article I'd read said mentioned the FBI investigations, and why they didn't act. They said that the FBI has tricked potential terrorists with sting operations before, and had a perfect opportunity with this guy, who gave them enough cause to at least investigate him more than once.

However, it's also possible that this little problem called bureaucracy got in the way. Probably more likely, too.

or maybe they just screwed up, or maybe just because someone is brown with a funny sounding name that isn't enough to move on them even if they say some things that are kind of scary because we value the freedom of speech in this country more than anything else.

none of this is constructive and honestly I don't need to hear the conspiracies and the "false flag" allegations and I really don't want to hear how you could have had the same result with a handgun because that does not make me feel any less like everyone who looks at me funny is going to open fire on a group of me and my friends because they don't like us for who we are. I'm sick of it and this is only keeping the wound raw.

I'm going to the parade on sunday, I might even march in it, because the only think I am concerned with is not letting this one asshole beat me.

transcon sometimes I wish this forum has an up vote button, I honestly always thought of this thread as a place to rant about frustrating things we encounter in our day to day...like running out of cream for my coffee.

Oh, shit! That was not how I meant for it to sound at all... However, I blame being awake for 37 hours and dehydration.

Which brings me to my new thing to bitch about: My head hurts, both from lack of sleep and the dehydration I'd been struggling against all day.

The temperature was in the upper 90s today, and the humidity was at 58% at my last check. The heat index was 116.

And guess what? I don't work in an enclosed building with only a fan at one end to cool us off. I was drenched with sweat before I was there for an hour. All day I had sweat in my eyes, and I came home smelling of mildew again.

EDIT: Oh, and, apparently dehydration makes a person unable to sleep.

Roffel House!

Taking students on field trips is always an adventure, but this week was crazier than most.

This field trip took place on an island. The only way on and off was by a public ferry, although emergency airlift and boat runs with the local DNR are available.

Emergency #1: Ghost pepper consumed whole. Student woke me in extreme gastrointestinal distress at 0230. Had to teach student how to induce vomiting. Student passed out on me. Had to reawaken him then keep him engaged with math problems and hunting stories for an hour. Thankfully, student responded positively to half a bottle of Pepto Bismol. Full recovery, but was almost medivaced off the island.

Emergency #2: Work detail. Gave a student chainsaw operator chainsaw chaps. He got hot. Took them off. Three minutes later a branch bounced and the chainsaw got him on the thigh. Emergency boat transport off island to mainland Urgent Care Center. Two cuts, required 5 and 9 stitches. Student was highly embarrassed and apologized to me. Gave him the stink eye and told him that now he had a permanent reminder that PPE is always required even if it's uncomfortable. Ironically, I had another student there who last year got tired and accidentally rested the chainsaw blade on his left leg. Chainsaw chaps saved him, he didn't need any medical attention. Lesson learned x2.

Emergency #3: Not really an emergency, but will require medical care. Seining for fish along beach. Told students to shuffle feet. Student did not shuffle feet. Stepped on stingray. Got minorly impaled in calf. Told student to get antibiotics as soon as we got back to town.

Emergency #4: Not really an emergency, more of an overreaction. Also during seining. Inexperienced student freaked out when a sea nettle jellyfish got her. Mild stinging on inner thigh for about a half hour, this species is otherwise harmless. She never reentered the water. e_e

Wow, that's some crazy shit, alright.

Found out this morning that a fourth puppy has died. My parents (or at least one of them) must have buried her, as they didn't wake me up to do it.

Out of six, one went to a new home. If people had actually adopted these dogs, they could have avoided contracting whatever killed them.

That sucks, Alk. What were the symptoms? Could it have been parvo? Were the parents vaccinated?

Well, since most of the dogs in the area wander all over the place, there's no way to know (rural area). However, we think it might be distemper. When I looked up parvo, I thought it said they were the same thing, but my dad says they aren't, so I don't know. They'd had diarrhea, one of them I had seen vomiting in the driveway, and they'd been getting pretty lethargic.

The remaining puppy seems to be okay. But the one that just died had been fine until after they went to the vet.
