Yeah, that's usually the main reason anyone would pull a stunt like this. Because it inflates their ego and makes them feel good. Me, I just prefer having a more logical, reasonable answer other than that, but internally I knew there was a good chance it was just someone being a jerk and playing a 'stupid prank.'

Last week, the only other guy in my department who could close during the week got fired because he made a threat. The guy didn't do jack shit when he worked. Now he's apparently got his job back. What. The fuck. |

Apparently some anti religion prick shoot three muslims over a parking dispute. The shooter had put a lot of posts attacking religion, saying religious people are horrible, religion doesn't reflect reality, whatever. Some folks are trying to say it's a hate crime. I've got something to say about hate crime legislation. (Obviously, or I wouldn't have made the post.) Hate crime legislation reinforces the idea that people of any particular group are different. Not only that, but it implies that committing a violent act with any other motivation is somehow less terrible than if you do it because someone is a different race, sex, sexuality, gender identification, economic situation, religion, or nationality. An example: Two different people commit murder. The first shoots someone in the head, near-instant kill. The second beats someone to death, takes a while, victim suffers more. First victim is killed for being [fill in the blank]. Second is killed as a result of domestic violence. The first murder makes national headlines because it's a hate crime, and everyone wants this guy dead for it, in as horrible a fashion as possible. Second murder, though much more cruel, isn't given nearly as much attention, and most would say a life sentence is bad enough in this situation. I want to make this clear: the only justifiable reasons I can think of for killing anyone are to either prevent them from killing/raping/abducting/torturing or causing any other irreparable harm to you or someone else, or to end their suffering, which would be seen as an act of mercy. Any other reason, and you're just as vile as anyone who'd do it for a different reason. So let's stop punishing someone more harshly because their beliefs or prejudices motivated their act, and start agreeing that it doesn't matter why if it wasn't for one of the reasons I mentioned earlier. A piece of shit is a piece of shit. |

Not really a rant, but nowhere else to put this. I have a cousin who was born the same time as me. Now, I don't hear from him, I'm only told big things that happen every now and then by other family members. I don't know all the details. He and his kids were out, his wife went outside to like a cigarette. There was a fire, something about a gas leak. She saw something, turned and opened the door, there was a back draft. Second and third degree burns on 75% of her body. Update: she was accepting skin grafts pretty well, but during surgery to fix a burst ulcer, there were internal issues. When they opened her up, her intestines and colon had ruptured. They had to stop surgery last night because her blood pressure went really high, but apparently things are now under control, so she's got a fighting chance. Edited by Alkarii, Mar 15 2015, 03:07 PM.

Last night, on the way home, I wasn't able to see where I needed to turn onto the service road until it was too late to make the turn. Hit the guard rail with the front corner, car can still drive. But still... FUCK. MY. LIFE. |

I'm working the Big Texas Beer Fest, which is cool and all, cause it means I'm getting paid to do a bit of setting up, then hang around all day and sample beer. So that's good. The bad news: this is the craft beer industry we're talking about here. And while I love craft beer, it's like I've died and gone to hipster heaven. There's a dude here wearing Daisy Dukes, which may or may not be ironic. There's another dude here on rollerblades, which I'm at least 75% sure he wears everywhere he goes. There's a gigantic wooden mustache as one of the displays, and another booth has mustache stickers you can put on your face. And there's a sign that says "Free beard oil" (full disclosure, I have a beard, though it's less hipster and more I don't like shaving and when I do I look 17). Good lord, I'm gonna need to go on an unironic 80s hair band binge just to counteract the ill effects of this place. UPDATE: I just saw a black guy in a kilt. And he's not the first guy if seen wearing a kilt today. Edited by The Boss, Apr 11 2015, 03:07 PM.

For the past couple months, several people have been trying to get me moved to the lumber department. Three weeks ago, I did an interview with one of the assistant managers, and two weeks ago, the ASDS (our equivalent of an HR supervisor) said that the next time she updated my schedule, I'd be in lumber. That same day, the most recent update for my schedule went to the 31st, and that update she already told me about. That told me I was starting in lumber on the first of June. I checked the schedule two days ago, and the update showed the first week of June. But it didn't say anything about whether I was in lumber. I checked the wall schedule today (it doesn't update at the same time as the computer), and it said I was still on the lot. So I'm gonna be up here a little early on Monday, and ask her if I have to babysit her so I know she'll be doing her part. |
