I'm trying to figure out what's insulting about this second link. Granted, the first one made sense since it was insulting our intelligence and manners, but the second one? It's more like an opinion with reasons that I *mostly* find understandable in terms of a female view point. Ranty, but understandable. Although...I do find the idea of a female Doctor Who a bit weird, not to mean any offense. I know he tends to change actor's a lot (And story wise, physical appearance), but the main character switching genders seems incredibly out of place for the universe. If you can somehow work it into the script that the whole thing doesn't feel awkward, then yeah, I can work with that, but that'd be REALLY had to do. As it is, the Doctor is kind of iconic for being a guy. Otherwise I can't see what's troubling about this, then again it might be me. |

I'm not really bothered by the post to be honest, certainly not offended by any one seeing what is there, a woman taking issue with all the things at comicon that there could be to take issues with...boothbabes are rather common at all these sorts of cons though ( except PAX which is one thing I like about it), as much as I might take issue with it they do know their audience for the most part. its a factor of money, I don't like it, but it does not fill me with anger like it does some others. that being said, the Doctor could totally be a woman, its been established in the series that a time lord can regenerate as a woman ( the doctor's wife from this current season )...it could happen. |

Ahhh. I haven't watched too much Dotor Who, but that does sound reasonable. |

It's the fact she's complaining about a largely male dominated event and how it's not fully focused towards women. In no situation have I seen a single occasion where feminists have tried to make something more approachable for men so they're easier with it, instead they seem to want to know how it can be better suited towards them. Then there's the obvious double standards and placing the blame with people who are of the opposite gender. A woman chooses to be a booth babe? Naturally it's the men who are at fault depsite having no role in their choice of profession! Men also serve as these roles? Too bad, we'll ignore this and blow the fact women are supposedly demeaning themselves entirely out of proportion. According to this women it's perfectly fine for females to lust after males in these events but entirely wrong when men do it. Hell, she snaps and starts basically ranting about how it's wrong for women to take a man's surname at one point. The fact that she is so utterly deluded that she thinks Twilight is a good, pro-female thing is even more insulting. And that's before you get into her comments about artwork and nerd-dom in general. She's a single minded, arrogant fool who isn't interested in equality and ignores anything which contradicts anything in relation to her view that everything is entirely bias towards males. Someone who doesn't want equality and instead thinks "yes, but how can this benefit me rather than them?" This is not something directed towards all feminists as a whole, simply the ones like the shrieking fanatic who wrote that article. Oh, and as for the Doctor comment, you have no idea just how much of the long time fanbase would stop watching if that happened. Adding that one small comment to try and make gender swapping for time lords canon was for Doctor Who is what midichlorians are for Star Wars. Acting on it would have the show shoot itself in the foot and the fans leave in droves. Edited by Shin-Ra, Aug 5 2011, 06:53 PM.

so first, I like Dr. who, and I would not change anything about the way it is at the moment. although I do not think a female Dr would derail the show so long as it was honestly true to the over all theme of the story. that being said I am not going to go waving my feminist flag because the Doctor is male. all of her complaints were fairly old and have been beaten to death, I would like to make a distinction though Cosplay for the sake of cosplay is just fine, if any one wants to dress up like their favorite character I say go for it! ( so long as its all within the law). paid models who are paid to dress up ( or down) because they will bring in more money from the crowd...that is another story and I wont get into it ( some thing happens in ads on TV and in the movies) sex sells and that is a sad fact of the world. as for twilight....*sigh* I suspect she either hadn't really read the books or got something that I did not out of it. but I can see how that genre could be appealing. I would like to see more strong well developed and well thought out female characters in comics, and we are starting too....which is why I leave the geeks alone, they get it, or at least they are starting too and I would *love* to point out to this woman that nerd culture is perhaps one of the more accepting and equal groups in america....guys say stupid things and deserve what they get when they do, but on the whole I have always felt the most accepted and equal with my fellow geeks. and in that I know I am not alone |

okay, so, I got a job last week putting in a sprinkler system at a Kroger in North Little Rock. good pay, 40 hours a week (10PM - 6AM). every day I've been at work, my supervisor and I smoked a joint during lunch. Every thing's great. So I got to work at 9:30. My supervisor usually gets there at 9:55. No big deal, right? Just a half hour or so. 10:15... still not there. Hmmm, maybe I'll wait here a little while. 10:30, he's still not here. He and I are the only guys from this particular company. Our job can't be done alone. He didn't call and say he'd be late, didn't say we wouldn't be working, so he should be arriving soon. 11:00? nope. 11:15? you guessed it. At 11:30, I left, on foot, with no phone, and virtually no knowledge of the area. I got to my cousin's place about two hours later, after walking across North Little Rock. Oh, and since he lives in a gated apartment complex and I couldn't figure out the call box thingy (sober, sweaty, sore, and pissed, gimme a break), I had to climb a fence. And I wasn't hard to spot, so the cops were probably called. I can hear it know... "You gots a real purdy mouth..." |

So. I’ve been in three car accidents since February, in my defense it’s not the female gene, it’s these damn Rhode Island drivers who think they own ALL of New England. Only one of these three was my fault, but Massachusetts is completely incompetent and makes your premium go up whether the accident was your fault or not. So I was rear ended recently. NOT MY FUALT, DAMMIT! My insurance went through the sky, now for me to find someone to insure a 2003 Honda Accord I must pay at least $4,000 a year. So I decided maybe I should go for an older car than the one I was looking at. I tried a 1998 Toyota Camry as my test subject. For some lame ass reason I’m still expected to shell out $4,000 a year on a freaking 98. Really?! The car’s not even worth that! So I have a rental, don’t know for how long, and I haven’t the slightest idea how I’m going to get to work after it runs out since apparently every vehicle I try to insure is a pestilence to the roads. Why don’t they chastise the Rhode Islanders who are out to total all of my cars instead of beating every red cent out of me when I only caused one accident and was only faulted because the moron who hit me couldn’t speak English and give a statement so they faulted me out of pity? Freaking massholes... |

I was under the impression that when you are rear ended it is automatically the fault of the car that did the rear ending, regardless of situation. at least thats now it is in Oregon, your car can be pushed by another into the back of a third and the rear ending is still your fault there. to your other point, I agree, drivers in that part of the country are lousy, the worst I have to deal with is Californians, at least they drive badly at a decent speed. ( sorry if I've offended any one) |

In MA it's the fualt of the person who rear ended you even if there were skid marks on the road. I had been stopped for a few seconds before he hit me full speed and pushed me into the next car. My car has since been totaled since my transmission went into limp mode due to the acident. MA is just stupid and looks for excuses to rip you off at all times. |

Just found this little nugget from the Kansas-Southern Miss game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=w7FnxjfLXkY Angel Rodriguez is Puerto Rican, and Puerto Rico is part of the USA, you ignorant hillbillies. Then again, Mississippi is 50th in education, so it's probably understandable that you had no idea about that. Plus you probably vomit that racist spew at anyone who even has a slight tan. So, a message to the fine sir(s) from Southern Mississippi responsible for the chant in the video. Come down to my Brownsville, TX and say that shit, and wave your little Confederate flags, too. I'd say I dare you, but you won't do it, cause you know you'd get shot, you pasty little wussies. Pinches gringos pendejos. Why don't you go back to England? |
