Dear Aiko:

Although I am for sharing, the residents of Oregon kindly request that you retrieve your heatwave. This is not Georgia, nor is this anywhere remotely "The South".

Thank you,
Transcon

I just have my two bottom Wisdom teeth removed X.X Lots of numbness and pain had ensued; feeling better now though.

The biggest problem was that my left tooth was inflamed, so even with the anesthesia, it still hurt a bit.

Owwwwwch. I know how painful that can be. Not directly, since I have a very large jaw and small teeth (so my three don't need pulled... at least yet) but I nursed my girlfriend through it, and it involved a LOT of soup and mashed potatoes over the long run.

Luckily she wasn't so crazy as to request me blend her food in the blender... one of my associates at work actually blended a cheeseburger. :X

On a more positive note, for most people, bleeding stops completely within a few days (at most 3, I believe) and things get exponentially better after that.

I just _____ in the _____.

Just fell into a knee-keep hole in our property in the dark, it used to be a den for something like a badger, but it moved in years ago. Afterwards I was rolling around in the weeds and little barb thingies, crying like a little girl and terrifying our new dog.

Luckily I didn't break anything, though right now I have some ice on my knee, it didn't take long before I thought up something awesome I could have yelled had it not hurt so much.

"Ahhhh! It's eating my leg!"

It's also topped off with a buttery rich problem of the neighbor's stupid cows getting out into our property twice today. Hopefully my brother and I managed to fence it well enough on short notice. I don't know if they're doing stuff to spite us on purpose but they don't give a damn about the fence.
Someone made the mistake of letting me publish a book, check Dusted Here!

You know B, I was about to rant about my life which would have been a bigger post than the one I made in heroes. But your rant made me laugh and I changed my mind.
I'll only make one.
Working with truckers is a pain in the butt. (Sorry Transcon) There are only a few good ones in a pack of mean nasty angry and dumb people... >.<

What would ever give you that idea, Darthy? lol

I've been on thin ice with my job. So, over the course of this week, my boss put the fire to my ass in ways that weren't all to inspiring. Over the course of this week, I've been getting more and more wound up.

One screw-up lead to another tonight, and the bunch of tiny little insignificant "I can live with that"s turned into paranoia. It started out with forgetting to write down a truck number on a customer's receipt. I was fifteen minutes drive by freeway from the place when I realized it. I could've probably gotten away with writing it on my copy, but paranoia told me that the customer may call and bitch. I didn't want to take any chances.

So, after already having a lunch, and finishing the account I was on, I drove back, fixed the mistake, and wrote in a second lunch. I didn't want people paying me for a mistake... especially since it was round trip. Now, I'm upset because someone's going to notice that there are extra miles where there shouldn't be. I hit a bump somewhere on the way to my next account... and lo and behold I can't find my head lamp.

Went to next account after doing the previous one in the dark. *grumble, frustration, feeling the gears in my head starting to seize*.... Push harder and harder as things start to get to me and finally, I blow.

I literally sat down next to a sewage truck I was fueling and broke down out of fear for my job. My time card looked wonky, anxiety, and paranoia for my job.

I called the old mechanic. Luckily he was on call, not so luckily it was past his bed time. Thankfully, after apologizing for waking him, he asked what was wrong.

"I broke down."

"What's wrong with the truck?"

"The driver."

I explained everything, though at first it was coming out in incomplete sentences. Then I ranted, then I grumbled... I laid it all out. The man was understanding!

(Usually, when a man breaks down, he tries to hide it out of fear of being seen as "less of a man". Not always is this the case.)

Dennis, the mechanic, heard me out, had a chuckle here and there, and when I asked what was so funny, he said he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. I like older ex-truckers who understand.

So, he said "have a smoke", so I did. We bullshitted about this and that, grumbled about my boss, and carried on. I sat there at the customer for a half hour on the phone. We agreed that I shouldn't worry about how to log that on the time card.

"Hey, if [my boss] says anything about tonight, you mind saying something?"

"I always do," he replied. "You feeling better?"

"No, but at least I'm calm and can see straight now."

"I need some sleep, Kiddo. I hope you have a better night."

"Thanks, Pal."

In trucking, much like in life, things can go sideways on you. Whether or not its your fault, it can be frustrating to the point of tears. This is the second time the truck's driver broke down on the road.

The first time was.... another story.

Beflexor: Despite all your problems, you have NO IDEA how much I envy you for them. Chasing cows off property is a hell of a lot better than sitting in an office wondering why your SAS code isn't working, or trying to figure out how to interpret p-values in repeated measures output.

-------------------------------------------

Transcon, I know this is probably of little comfort, but it appears that this is hardly the first time a trucker (not just you) has broken down on the job, wondering if he's going to keep it. It's scary to think of the possibility of losing a good job, especially since you seem to like this one so much. But don't let it eat you up inside. A job is only a job, and life is filled with bigger things.

Don't just watch the road in front of your cab...things come at you way too fast and unexpectedly, making you panic and react in ways you wouldn't normally. Instead, keep your head up, and watch down the road so you can see things coming and plan for them. It'll steady you, and the road will seem far less windy. It's hard to think long-term, but just remember that in a few years you'll be looking back at this with a clear head and probably laugh. Things have a way of working out in the end.

Heya Trans, I know personally how bad that kind of thing can be. I took a summer trip with my father once, back when he worked for Georgia Pacific and made regular trips along the east coast...

Everything had started out fine, but while we were kicking it on cruise control one particular time we heard a huge clunk, and the cab began to shake pretty badly. We pulled over to see what was up, and the right-front wheel was at a 45 degree angle. Best we could figure was that whoever had done the routine maintenance on this particular truck hadn't attached that wheel as tightly as they should have and it slipped out of alignment and got warped. We spent the rest of the day there, calling people and trying to get a hold of a mechanic.

The best thing you can do is keep a cool head, and try not to think about things other than driving. If you've got a buddy nearby, give em a call and see how they're doing. Call some family or something. Talking always helps.

You can chalk that up as another ex-trucker who understands. :)

Also, Beflexor... Their Cows ---> Your Dinner. Problem solved. :D
