See, normally I suggest envisioning people in their underwear to get over something like this but uh... I don't think that'll help you this time. A clown! She's a clown! With big funny lips! >.> Seriously though, I can understand why you'd be uncomfortable. But... this is acting, so just distance yourself from it and realize it's not real. Easy to say, not easy to do, I know. Good luck! |

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, because it doesn't pertain to reality. But I'm practically forgotten. I'm the guy who's been an RPer in training so long that everyone's forgotten about him, or at least thats what it seems to me. I feel that if I don't say anything I'll continue to be overlooked until the day the asteroid strikes.

Yeah, you're right Qualanx. You've waited long enough, and you've definitely improved. I talked it over with some of the mods and we agree that you're ready to become a full fledged RPer. Even though you haven't been in a lot of RPs, I really think you'll get better with some experience under your belt. |

While the following rant is the result of a bit of remembering and also about something that happened in the past, please note that it is completely centered around MtG Online and may include a card pic or two. Many Planeswalkers such as myself know that while there are physical cards you can play with, there's also a way to play Online that's supported by Wizards of The Coast (the company behind MtG). Magic Online is pretty cool since you can pretty much find a person to play against at almost any point in the day. The thing about this is that you might run into someone who's just a little...n00bish... This is about one of those times... *Dun dun duuuuuun!* I'm playing in a 1-vs-1 single-game match against this one guy (who I will refer to from now on as MrLamer). Things are going great and I realize with the special lands I have, I can drop this guy for awesome effect... ![]() What I mean by awesome effect is paying for the two Kickers, allowing me to destroy an enchantment he has in play and also causing him to discard two cards. I play the Battlemage with the two kickers and it gets into play, causing the two kickers to trigger. I target his enchantment with one and then target MrLamer with the discard one. A few seconds later, this is what happens... MrLamer: lol MrLamer: i dont discard in casual games MrLamer: lol *MrLamer has left the game* ...What...the...*%^&?!?! "i dont discard in casual games"?! Are you @#$%ing kidding me?! You're just sad because I must have broken some stupid combo you were trying to set up, you #%$^ing n00b! Playing different people means that eventually you're going to have to face the fact that people have discard spells or effects in their decks and just saying "lol i dont discard" and dropping only means you're nothing but a smoldering PILE that only relies on cheap combo decks to get your wins rather then possibly trying other things! A good example is the fact that when I first ran into a Sliver deck after Time Spiral came out, I hated it! But after playing with Slivers, I came to see what power that actually had and decided to get a Sliver deck of my own, rather than going "lol i dont play against slivers" and running away like a little #$%^@!! You try something like that IRL and there's a chance that you'll be looked down upon and mocked because of it! $%*#ing take your hits, you @!#$ing n00b! ... ... ...I feel better now... EDIT: ...Wait a minute..."i dont play against slivers"...Someone actually did that to me too! SON OF A $%^&#!! Edited by DJChilllyPhil, Feb 21 2008, 12:50 PM.

Ba, the internet is full of people like that. Starcraft can be no different at times, as there are idiots out there that will attempt to spam message into the entire game, and act all expert-like, and they could at times, too. But then there are times when they "I can't do this, it's going to fast" and they die in an obstacle course game. Guess what, the obstacle that they had so much trouble with I was able to get past, and they even called me noob. I don't know, when i find games that have idiots in them, I think tough luck with myself. I don't usually get very angry, and I used to be a magic player, so i find it a little funny for such a reaction to happen. But that's just me, so i won't try to make any judgements here, DJ. |

Several days ago, a video was released to the media where four white students held a mock initiation ceremony by coaxing four domestic workers into performing several "degrading acts" - among them, feeding them a stew that one had urinated in. Since then, criminal charges have been laid and they've been branded racist monsters by the press. Students at the university formed a riot and had to be dispersed by force after they pelted the male dormitory with rocks and assaulted several unrelated white students. The general population of SA has expressed shock and disgust, and even government has given it's (unwanted and unnecessary) opinion on the matter. I've been following the story with morbid curiosity and have just read seen it on CNN's headlines, so I thought I'd share my opinion on it as it's being reported on internationally. Although the students acted like complete pricks, I strongly doubt that race had anything to do with their motives. The media has been awfully selective in what it reports on; they're quick to point out that the domestics were made to eat meat that had been urinated on while on their knees, but they leave out everything that lead up to it - the four white students introduced it as a mock "Fear Factor" and the domestics weren't forced to kneel, but did so of their own accord as there wasn't anywhere else to sit. After the event, the students even offered prizes to the four (who graciously accepted and were laughing at the joke, strange how they now suddenly need "trauma counseling"). The video also shows the domestics competing in a race played in slow-motion with the theme to Chariots of Fire playing in the background. Knowing South Africans, I'd say this was just a silly, purile attempt at humor and a way of venting at the ridiculous initiation process black students have introduced, which is usually far worse (a few months back a newly admitted student was told to push a coin across a hallway with his nose - after rejecting to retain his dignity, he was beaten and had his head repeatedly dunked in an unflushed toilet). I'm not condoning the actions of the students, but branding them racists and "repugnant bastards" seems grossly unfair - especially as their names have been released publically and they have since received several death threats. The lives of these four have basically been ruined over a stupid college prank. Racial tension in this country seems to have hit an all-time high, but what deeply concerns me is the extreme amount of double standards being employed: just this last month, white journalists were barred from attending a forum as the President of the ruling party adressed the media, a school pledge that children would have to recite in school references apartheid atrocities and could serve as anti-white propoganda, a murderer was given a suspended sentence after a judge ruled that he "must enjoy family life" as he was previously disadvantaged (a buzz word used to describe anyone who may have been treated badly during the former government's rule, but conveniently overlooks Asians and white females despite the discrimination they faced), and a group of police officers assaulted a family, stating "f**k off, white b**ch" after hitting the wife of the man they were intending to arrest. They even shot the family dog, allegedly asking "who's next?" after pulling the trigger. Even the electricity crisis was initially blamed on whites, as the former government had not catered to the black population (which is true, but apartheid ended fourteen years ago, how long does it take to get your act together?) I can only hope we leave the country before the inevitable civil war breaks out. Please, don't buy into the ANC/government propoganda that portrays whites in South Africa as monsters who are oppressive and inherently racist. The ANC are still fighting their war, and I don't think they'll rest until every last unwelcome white has been purged from "their" land. |

People are nuts... My friend Otis and I sat down and had a good talk about all this sillyness... I wish there would have been a way to record our conversation, he made some good points. One of the things we went over was the word Prejudice. These days one hears prejudice and automatically associates it with some violent ,disturbing or vulgar hate crime against a particular minority. But if you really look at the word, its originates from the word "Pre-Justice" The act of making a decision before coming to know all the relevant facts. A few months ago I was walking out and about and I noticed I became the humorous subject of a group of Latino teens. Not knowing much Spanish but WELL knowing the cultural habits they were obviously poking fun at "The stupid white kid." I caught a few derogatory words and the classic "Stare right at you whilst I insult you." The funny thing is, My dad is Spanish. I can't help it if I'm glow in the dark white.... Now I'm not Spanish, and I am most definitely now white... I am one of those sampler candy dishes you pick up at the holidays.... You name it, I probably have it. Heck, People could still call me a "Durned injun" The point is, Our 'Pre Justice' Is often dealt by those of us who think we are rather understanding. Your boss comes walking down the hall and you see him looking your direction. You automatically groan and start whining in your head. You may not have a boss, but the point is ALL of us have dealt pre-justice in their life many times. Now let me point out a difference here. All those pre-justices you have dealt out your whole life, How did you handle them? I can't speak for you all but for me I get a "Forget about the whole deal, I was just being human." Or I get a rude awakening about just how wrong I was. Personally I believe that these problems are all how we handle em. Look at the situation mentioned above. Even if it was an "act of prejudice" How far would it have gone if it had been handled in a LOCAL manner? Even if it was the stupid white kids being stupid white kids or even the African kids poking fun at them selves or even honest stupidity, who cares? Look what it turned into! How many people do you think would have been effected had this been handled the right way? I don't know how many of you have handled kids before. What is the ONE thing you DON'T do when they do something you do not want them to do? You don't make a big deal out of it! Honestly, Stop and think Are we all that different? If a crisis is a crisis and it is handled properly, yes there is disaster, yes there is concern and empathy. But do you notice what the media or over reactive people or those who like dealing pre-justice do to a situation? They make a big deal out of it! Notice out reaction is almost the same as a child's? I mean look at half the murders and mass-killings out there. I betchya a good portion of those are in reaction to an over-reaction. "Ooh look, those people got allover TV the whole world knows about them. I wanna try and see what reaction I will get!" And then we have the SAME problem allover again. Now I wont say this is the only reason for this whole prejudice mess out there, It is a puzzle with WAY to many pieces to even cover in a book. When you think about this situation it makes you think. Who dealt pre-justice here? The ones who handled the situation or those directly involved? Pre-justice seems to be a self sustaining fire that feeds off the fact that we ARE all different. But what if we all handled that differently and accepted it? People may break the fragile shell of "The norm" Big whoop... There are plenty of people out there who break my idea of the norm and quite frankly I think their actions are wrong. But would I get anything accomplished by ranting and raving and dealing my pre-justices? Even if they are wrong they are still human and I am still human. See the connection? See the problem? I think if we all just rolled with the punches and learned to handle things a bit more maturely, A lot of problems would evaporate. How many of us thinks X race or X social group is not human? Only the ones we call 'weirdos'. Well there you go, there is the first hurdle. If we tone down out immaturity, how different do you think our action-reactions would change. When you were a kid, Did you honestly think anything different because someone was a different color? I didn't, The other half of my family was just that... Till I started becoming picky about what people were. Then It never really bothered me. Pick another race that you are predominately not. When you were a kid, did you notice anything different? My sister thought my aunt was covered in chocolate and was immediately thrilled... Now look at how we handle the D word. "Oh no! Different! we cant handle different!" Some 'mature stage of life' we are... I could go n for hours... I best go afore I hog up the better part of a page and my "to do's" become "shoda been done's" |

So about a month ago one of my friends came over and brought call of duty 4. I didn't really know much about the series until then, but after a few minutes I decided I liked it a lot. So I borrowed it from him and about a week later me and my brother bought it. Me, him,Darthanis, and my dad all play it and it was often used. After about 14 days of having it I had made 43 in ranks, earlier today after my brother got off I decided to play it. I signed in my gamertag as usual and put the game in, when the title video launched I noticed a change in the sound. I figured they had changed the video around considering they had just done a big update to the game. I joined a matchmaking game and selected my class,a few seconds after I heard a scraping noise coming from the Xbox 360. I quickly muted the volume on the TV and listened more closely, I heard it again so I ejected the disk tray. By some freak accident the xbox burned a ring in the disk, yeah so no more call of duty for a while..... We checked the receipt and the date where we could return it in expired 7 days ago. So we're going to call and see if theres still any chance of us being able to return it for another of the same disk. |
