Roffel House!

I've got a nice rant, so what a better way to open this old thread on a new board?

I flew back to Georgia yesterday. It was bad enough getting a flight delayed, causing me to book it to make it to my next flight on time, but that was the easy part.

When I got back to Athens, I carried my luggage out to the car, packed it all in, and then turn the ignition. Nada. Dead battery.

I was sort of expecting it, but it still sucked. After 15 minutes I was able to wave somebody down to give me a jump. I keep an emergency kit in my car which includes cables, tools, an air compressor, duct tape, WD-40, battery terminal cleaner, etc. Thanks to a kind person, I got my car started.

Suspecting that my battery was toast, my worries were confirmed whenever I hit the blinker... my headlights would dim in perfect rhythm with the blinkers. Great. So I drove to Walmart and parked as close to the entrance as I could just in case I had to go buy a battery if my car didn't start again. My car didn't start again, so I bought a new battery.

Since when have batteries doubled in price? I spent $30 on one a few years back, and now they're $72?? What the hell?!

Anyways, I spent late last night in the parking lot of a Walmart replacing my battery. It was a drag, but at least it's fixed now.

Besides the ever-present cost of Gasoline going up, Battery prices have gone up as well, almost mirroring the percentage that Gasoline goes up. Working in retail for the past 2 1/2 years, I've noticed this as well. The first thing people complain about is Gas. Next is the cost of batteries. Then tires. You'll notice that tires, though they haven't risen in cost as much as Gas or Batteries, has gone up as well...at least DECENT tires have, anyway. Changing the oil in your car is starting to become a bit pricy as well. Last time I changed the oil in my car, it was around 35 dollars. Not too steep, but again, a few years back, I was paying, what, 20? 15? Something like that.

And its not like you just...can wave these off or something. Eventually, without constant care, your vehicle breaks down, and without a vehicle, you can't really function in today's society.

Get a bike.

I have a short little rant.

I was this close to installing the Freelancer demo on my mac, no dual-booting. THIS close...

Unfortunately, while Darwine allows the running of executables on a Mac without an emulator, it does not support OpenGL whilst such executables are being run. Therefore, I must install Boot Camp.

Damn.

Heh, the battery is the only thing on my car that survived . . .

Also, congrats on the board move, blah blah blah yada yada so on and so forth. Someday I'll rejoin, someday . . . d-:

Also, as an FYI - things will tend to get more and more expensive as the years go by until the value of the dollar rises again. Right now even the loony is worth more. \-:

I went and saw Cloverfield. Some things were alright, but there were more than a couple issues with it. I'm not gonna put any spoilers to it or put a review here, but I'm gonna saw that this movie was badly influenced by most movies you'll see these days.

Gore in it because filmmakers think gore is cool (that shit got old really fast, with the Final Destination trilogy and a few others), plus there's the obvious fact (obvious if you watch the movie, anyway) that this movie WILL have a sequel, because nothing is explained, there's no confirmation that the monster, called Slusho by some, is killed (small spoiler, though I said I wouldn't: I read that after the credits, you here something backmasked. What is being said is "It's still alive"). Hell, Slusho ain't even the deadlest thing in the movie. It's them damn spider things that came with him. They're not likely to be even genetically related to Slusho, with him (I honestly don't know if Slusho has a gender) appearing to be some kind of amphibian (a vertebrate), and the bugs are arthropods (invertebrates).

So basically, my rant is that I hate how Hollywood thinks they need gore in movies, or that they need sequels.

The movie gets a C in my gradebook. (It wasn't great, but at least it wasn't as bad as Batman & Robin. Damn you, Joel Schumacher.)

EDIT: anyone care to start a movie review thread?

Not much of a "Real-life" rant, but whatever.

So I've been playing Garry's Mod 10 for Half-life 2 for a little while now, and recently I stumbled upon the gamemode called "Zombie Survival", thought it was fun, kinda exciting when you played as a human and were pushed into a corner when all other humans die and turn into zombies as well (not to mention the advanced zombies).

So anyways, thats great and all, but I dunno for some reason I seem to have gotten sudden disconnects whenever I'm playing Garry's Mod recently, and then after I've DC'ed I cant find the server again (usualy for a VERY long time), I wouldent be very surprised if it was only Zombie survival, but it seems to happen with all different Gmod servers I'm in. It could be my connection, as I'm at my dads place (prety bad and unstable) but the thing that pisses me off about it is that I dont lagg even a LITTLE bit before the sudden DC, and I can check for new servers almost directly after.

And now something new happened too... For some reason I'm now getting "Steam Validation Rejected" whenever I try to log in on a Garry's Mod server -_- I'm going to check if Half-life 2 Deathmatch works or if I get the same problem there after this post, just wanted to let it out, I'm so fuggin pissed right now.. (I HATE STEAM)

EDIT: Ok so it seems to only be for Gmod... Weird.

Roffel House!

Has anybody else been getting extremely frustrated with the fight-per-episode 'plot' line that Bleach has been suffering from for the entire 3rd season? I'm getting sick of it. Animation is horrible, my old VHS tape player had a higher FPS, and the attacks suck! I mean, c'mon, you rush head on into an enemy with a punch and you honestly expect that you're not gonna get knocked upside the head?! Any 2 year old knows that!

I think they should just rename the series as GhostbusterZ, a hybrid between Ghostbusters and DragonballZ. e_e

Aw, Alk, I really loved Cloverfield. That makes me sad.

I don't really think there will be a sequel. I just don't think they could follow up on the feel of it (camcorder) without it coming across as really overdone and lame. And I trust J.J. Abrams not to do that.

Cloverfield gets an A from me: no 9/11 allusions to speak of, incredibly real and intense script, awesome monster.
"Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It's us. Only us."
