So, as I described in the title, this movie isn't District 9 that Outrack was talking (Which I am interested in seeing), but, simply, it's called 9. An odd title indeed, but this is a Tim Burton film and it seems to fit the setting and plot of the movie. Read the article for information about the story.

My personal thoughts: I'm normally don't like it movies that continue the "Machines will rise up and destroy us," cliché, but the back story of 9 actually fits into my bookshelf of "The Cons of Robots." Why? Because a lot of the other movie have portrayed the stupid antagonists as egotistical (In my view), emo-perfectionists that think that they're the next step in human evolution and that humanity should bite the dust (Ironically, it seems humans already have in this movie, another reason why this works for me; there doesn't seem to be any of that silly man vs machine deal here).

Rather, the reason for the mess is more down-to-earth and simple: human abuse. Such a story dates back to the Frankenstein era of fiction, and while it's probably used in some of the other stories like Terminator, it just doesn't seem to be very well emphasized. Which I think is actually done well here, because all the mechanical nasties have some sort of twisted nature that represents how the Fabrication Machine was so tortured that it became crazy.

To me, it's simple, but underused or not properly emphasized.

In fact, it's the art that really pique my interest. There's definitely a very unique style here; it's almost like steam punk, minus the steam and plus the stitchings (Stitch punk? I wonder if Burton got some inspiration from Coraline). All the mechanical nasties are like the ones I would dream up in my own head, but come to life on the big screen - and not machines attempting freaking mimic humans.

Plus the protagonist looks like they'll make quite an interesting romp as well. Hence I'm going to be keeping tabs on this movie.

Post your thoughts.

"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."

Wowza! Thanks for sharing this CEMP! I probably would've found out about it much too late otherwise.

I watched the trailer, and I am officially stoked. I love a good post apocalyptic setting. Greatly looking forward to this film.

I've been paying close attention to this, and I can't wait to see it. I'm a big fan of most of Burton's work, ever since Nightmare Before Christmas, even though I was like four and it scared the bejesus out of me back then.

Who knows? Maybe we could even make an RP out of it.
